Brad the Builder at it Again

Oops… I forgot to comment on the pics of BP at work– naughty me. The only thing that would make BP hotter is if the photogs followed him home and got pics of him, on the floor, playing with his kids.

I truly hope this never happens, that would be invasion of FAMILY privacy.

“think positive”: IMHO you are being manipulated. India has a lot of bricklayers and construction workers, which is essentially unskilled labour. Brad has no degrees so he fits that particular job aka “posturing stereotype for a day”. BP and AJ do this “work” (not work to most people) to to get over their guilt at having huge fame and popularity for doing very little in real life. Remember Haiti? What long term result did the trip to Haiti make? The same thing was said then by posters here then that “this trip to Haiti is bringing heightened awareness to the plight of Haitians!”. What changed? The fact is, any real changes will be done by people more powerful than these two actors, at diplomatic levels. They have no real influence or real contribution to make at the ground level. The long term impact of their visit is negligible but they get credibility as “humanitarians for a day” by doing a photo shoot…. or an “ambassadorial” visit…. or laying a few bricks when there is nothing to do on set…and he is bored. So he pretends to be a construction worker and gets out that costume, and bingo ! Mr Glamours is a stereotype. “Don’t sweat it will ruin your hair !” Click. All people see are the photos… what the PR people want you to believe is “these people are doing good work as well as being very attractive” without REALLY analyzing what is going on. I am not criticizing BP and AJ for making some kind of effort, I just believe this contribution is minimal in the long term, at the ground level it is vanity and compared to people who aren’t glam who do it everyday it is silly. To see the truth is far more positive than being manipulated. Don’t you agree ?

Anon, maybe you should check the actual procedures being followed by Habitat for Humanity. They focus on “sweat equity” in building homes for the poor (and have many volunteers who do office work and community development). The website is habitat.org if you want to know more.

I think you misunderstood what I said. IMO, a man playing with his kids is way sexier than perfect abs, ass, and shoulders. I don’t get why my particular flight of fancy is being demonized whereas others are more graphic and sexual. There is nothing wrong with their fantasies and there’s certainly nothing wrong with mine.

I’m sure that if the photogs got images of naked BP or fully clothed BP, playing with his kids, through unethical means, few of us would enjoy looking at them. Mind you, we did enjoy the art pics until we discovered VF’s unethical use of them.

Anon sounds like a bitter, sad, jaded person. I am so proud of Brad and Angie that they just do what they feel is right, helping others any way they can, not worrying about what some judgemental people may think or say. If people worried so much about pleasing others, or what other people think, nothing much would get accomplished in this world.

I know at times we are all guilty of presuming what might be going on in B&A’s heads, but I really do not agree that they do these things out of some kind of guilt. I think they do it because they really want to, and that they are fully aware that what they are doing isn’t going to change the world or make a long-term impact…. but that’s how the world gets changed, right? One step at a time? One small gesture or effort at a time? Any of us who has ever volunteered at a soup kitchen or donated to Good Will knows that our effort is a mere drop in the bucket, but at least it’s *something*, and it is done out of a genuine desire to help people. One should never underestimate the power of a small group of determined people to change the world.

That may be a Pollyanna, pie-in-the-sky approach to life, but there’s nothing wrong with being idealistic.

I also realize that B&A know exactly what they are doing, and yeah, sure, there are movies and projects to promote, but I seriously feel that is not the whole motivation.

What if Brad comes back several times to work….all week maybe, and works everyday? Would you still say the same thing?
