Angelina Jolie Serves Sikh

UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie has been on a two-day visit to the Indian capital, listening to Sikh children playing religious music at the Khalsa Diwan Welfare Society in New Delhi, an organization run by Afghan refugees of the Sikh faith for other refugees. She chatted with students - some of the 9,500 Afghan refugees under the direct care of the UN refugee agency in India — about their passion for learning English and computer skills.

Angelina also made time to talk with a refugee woman from Myanmar in the one-room home she shares with her three children in New Delhi. The woman, one of the 1,750 refugees from Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) under the care of UNHCR in India, told Jolie that they had fled after her husband was arrested by Burma’s military government.

Angelina Jolie for UNHCR

NEW DELHI: Giving papparazi the slip, Hollywood diva Angelina Jolie on Saturday spent some time with Sikh Afghan and Myanmarese refugees in the capital.

Accompanied by her five-year-old son Maddox, Jolie arrived in the capital just past noon and drove to the refugee camps run by the Khalsa Diwan Welfare Society and UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Clad in a white T-shirt and blue jeans, Jolie, the UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and her son listened to Sikh children playing religious music at the Welfare Society run by Afghan refugees of the Sikh faith.

She chatted with the students among some 9,500 Afghan Sikh refugees under the direct care of UNHCR and was appreciative of their passion for learning English and computer skills.

The Hollywood star, in India for shooting a film ‘A Mighty Heart’ on the life of slain Wall Street Journal correspondent Daniel Pearl, also visited a woman refugee from Myanmar in her one-room home where she lives with her three children.

The woman, one of the 1,750 refugees from Myanmar, told Jolie that they fled after her husband was arrested by the military government in Myanmar, a press statement issued by UNHCR said.

“I am grateful to the refugee families who spent time with me today and shared their stories. They are remarkable, courageous people, it quoted Jolie as saying.

Jolie, on a two-day visit here, will be meeting Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma on Sunday.

Jolie will be accompanied by UN officials at the meeting with Sharma and the discussions are expected to centre around issues relating to refugees and children.

Lucky you!
Good post!
WELCOME !!! :D

BCBG,

How come?

I just went to tmz.com, about Jennifer Aniston’s LAX. There were many posts scolding her and her publicist. !!!

BCBG,

You know what. It’s over let it die. I comment how I like and I’m over what transpired.

We all called truce.

I wouldn’t be ragging on somebody’s feet that know the back of Brad’s thighs as intimately as La Jolie’s do. I’d say thise are some pretty happy feet!

>>>>>>>>>>>>
You said it Dragonfly!

People who burn with jealousy and envy for La Jolie and all the blessings raining on her, come here to critique….her feet.

********************************************
I know! I figured a person had to dig pretty deep to come up with that insult, LOL!
The criticisms of Angie’s pics get more and more bizarre.

I live in a small town in SC, I wonder if I will get to see it… we dont get many small films here.

:(

Love her when she out there in the real world. She really feel for the disadvantaged. I am a big fan of hers. As for Brad good for him. Not too keen on him but if Ange is happy so am I!

From People website:

“Also in New Delhi, Jolie visits a refugee woman from Myanmar on Saturday in the one-room home she shares with her three children while son Maddox, 5, plays with other refugee children from the former Burma.”

MADDOX WAS AT THE REFUGEE CAMP.

my thinking is, doing so will be like “repeating their negative comments” and making the whole board more negative against Angie.
just my suggestion.

Just checkin in before I go to sleep. Great new photos! Thanks JJ & Audrey. Holy cow!

Technically, Orphanages have been outlawed in the United States back in the 1930’s because of the extreme brutality against minors. It was vicious because there were no laws on the books protecting the welfare of children. If you hear or read about “orphanages” in this country, they really mean foster & group homes. The word “orphanages” has Third World connotations so it should not be used in the same sentence with the words United States ((rolling my eyes)).

I don;t understand why haters ask why Brad & Angelina aren’t doing anything in this country. You can’t just say “well done” ? Yes people & institutions need help in this country but there are programs in place for some most of these. Many want to get rid of what little social programs are out there now. There are also many religious, & philanthropic organizations that help. Anything else has got to be taken care of by your President. That’s what he was elected for.

Happy Feet! @ 11/05/2006 at 12:44 am

Seemed like haters are running out of criticism about her & now focusing on her feet. Be happy…her feet is way Ok for me. Have you seen my feet? I’ve got some cracked nails & I am flat-footed too. So if I can get at least Angie’s feet I would be a very very happy person.

kearnie - Getty also has that disclaimer on those pics as well…

BCBG,

I got you.

Dragonfly,

I guess then we’ll have to wait for the general release.

When is that does anyone here know?

Frenchy

You are so right. I woork in a group home for teen girls but I know the foster care and public assitance programs first hand. There financial aid programs for families trying to keep their kids too. Every child is either in group homes or foster homes infants stay in foster care until adoptions go through. Every child in this country is entitled to financial aid, foods stamps, medical and education. These are federal programs so they’re eligible in every sate. If anyone has seen children in need of any of these thing it’s because of lack of knowledge of the systen, not because there is none.

Angelina has a solid 10+ years fanbase. SHE HAS FANS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most blogs attract nothing but negative posts which is why JJ is special. Yes you get some haters (mostly people who think that this blog is like all the others) but here if you like, you post, if you don’t, you continue to scroll to other stories.

Good night all.

Re: wireimages - it seems like a recent disclaimer because the person I credited always check that site and never saw the disclaimer before.

There is definitely a watchdog monitoring these agencies from Pitts camp.

Guli,
I keep playing “Yildizlarin Altinda” over and over again. It is stock in my brain.

Does anyone know when Babel is coming out in Atlanta?
~~~~~
I tried to post the website but it did not work so to find movie showtimes in your area go to boxofficemojo. On the top left, right under Search, there is a slot for Showtimes. Just type in zip.
Right now it is showtimes up to Nov 9th. Babel does not open in most places in the US until the 10th. So you may want to check back Monday or Tuesday. Hope this helps.
deena, maybe it means that any unauthorize pictures are not allowed now. But if for the sake of Jolie-Pitt household, I agree with it. Too much publicity is not a good thing. People will get sick of over-exposure.
Anyways, thanks Jared for the pics. Love BAMZS
It just amazes me that the haters DON’T WANT TO ADMIT that Angie aims her humanitarian efforts where there is the absolutely most desperate need, where it is a matter of life or death-literally.
It’s not that they don’t know it-they just don’t want to admit it, so they can continue ragging about “why doesn’t she help America’s problems instead?”.
OH! so let me see if I get it…
Getty Images and Wireimages are the powerhouse in the Agency industry. The real and legitimate agencies that celebrities and others go to.
So that leaves us with Rameypix, Splashnews and WENN:
- Remember the scar on Brad face in Paris. That was a story started by Rameypix. - WENN owns US Weekly. Go figure.
- Splashnews - hmm. dont know much about this one…but here is how they describe themselves:
Splash (splash) vt. 1. Fleet street slang for front page story
Splash is the leading independent entertainment news and picture agency in America. Splash brings the hottest, most up-to-date Hollywood stories and photos to millions of people aroundthe world through their favourite newspapers, magazines and TV station.
Operating out of offices in London, Los Angeles, New York and Florida and using skills honed in the competitive British newspaper market, we take pride in being first and the best.
Hollywood is the land of make believe, but if you want to know what is really happening, call Splash. We don’t deal in gossip. We deal in fact. We have been credited with announcing some of the most memorable and controversial show biz stories to come out of Los Angeles in recent years. We cover the good, the bad and the very ugly.
” They have an edge. We might wait to see how a story develops, but they jump right in.”
Hard Copy.
” Right up there with the big boys has been Splash. Splash has made its own niche”
Washington Post.
“Splash, a group of young, dynamic British expats, has been behind some of the most sensational stories in the tabloid trade.”
Swing Magazine.
“Among the 100 coolest people in Los Angeles,”
Buzz magazine’s annual cool table.
“Splash uses a combination of fearless determination, ruthless application and a limitless appetite,”
London Sunday Mail.
“Splash is understandably smug having beaten the world to the Michael Jackson baby story”
Jeannie Williams - USA Today.
“Splash has caused some of the most sensational waves in show business.”
London Observer.
“When things click, Splash f-stops at nothing to celebrity shots for British press,”
The Santa Monica Outlook.
Anyways, it is interesting to see who is who and which agencies are favoured by the Jolie-Pitt.
I saw Babel today in Toronto. Love the movie, very moving & gritty. Money well spent. I went to see it with my brother & a friend. The theater was full & evryone inside the cinema loved the movie.
