LOS ANGELES (AP) - Bidders looking for a piece of the “King of Cool” shelled out six figures for motorcycles and paid more than $70,000 for one pricey pair of shades in an auction of items that once belonged to actor Steve McQueen.

Cars, trucks, motorcycles and memorabilia from McQueen’s widow Barbara and other collectors were put up for sale by Bonhams and Butterfields at the Petersen Automotive Museum on Saturday. The entire auction brought in $2.9 million.

A 1937 Crocker “Hemi-head” V-Twin motorcycle brought in $276,500, the biggest price of the day and a world record for a Crocker motorcycle, said auction house spokesman Levi Morgan. A 1934 Indian Sport Scout went for $177,500, and a 1920 Indian Powerplus Daytona brought in $150,000.

One anonymous bidder paid $70,200 for Persol sunglasses McQueen is believed to have worn as he played a dapper thief in the opening scenes of 1968’s “The Thomas Crown Affair.” A Rolls Royce Silver Shadow from the same movie brought in exactly the same price.

The winning bidders included private collectors in France, Great Britain and the United States, and the Petersen museum itself bought several items, Morgan said.

McQueen, who died in 1980 at age 50, was known nearly as much for his love of vehicles as for his acting. His most famous movie moments include a mad motorcycle dash in “The Great Escape,” and a car chase through the streets of San Francisco in “Bullitt.”

Also, before anyone starts using the fact that Angie’s carrying Z as a sign she might be pregnant, remember: Mad is getting to be bigger, and while she might have been able to carry him for long distances before, it might be a little tough now, and since they were in a big crowd, Brad probably thought it was safer to lift him onto his shoulders. And Mad might haved wanted to ride up there; he’s little, and even if Brad or Angie carried him, all he’d probably see was people’s backs and heads and stuff. Angie also put Z onto her shoulders too for awhile, so she isn’t trying to hide anything, I don’t think.

I’m sorry but that quote from Will is ridiculous. Unless he’s stranded on a deserted isle w/ another woman and doesn’t know when he’s gonna get off (pardon the pun), or fighting on foreign soil and thus needs ‘release’ with some local ho’ selling it - odds are if he wants to f**k another woman, there’s more than just a physical attraction going on - there’s some kind of emotional attraction/bond….and one boink just ain’t gonna do the trick. So that’s bullshit. After all if it was JUST physical and there were no extinuating circumstances (see above wartime, etc.) - then most people don’t ‘NEED to have sex with SOMEBODY,’ they can hold tight til’ they’re with the person they’re in love with. Will might call that honesty - but it’s bullshit.

PUNE: Hollywood actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who were here since October 5 for the shooting of a part of the film A Mighty Heart, on Saturday checked out of the five-star hotel where they were putting up since their arrival.

Jolie, Pitt and their three children checked out from Le Meridien Hotel on Saturday morning after completion of the shooting in Pune, sources said.

However, the city police, airport authorities and the hotel management had no idea about where the star couple and their children had gone.

“We have no idea where they have gone after their check out,” a senior staff of Le Meridien said.

According to sources, after the shoot here, Jolie and Pitt were to leave for Mumbai to resume shooting there.

“They were to go to Mumbai. In fact, we have had a flight plan ready for them for today as a stand by. More than this, we have no idea,” a senior airport official said.

The visit by the Hollywood couple to the city created lot of media hype and also led to skirmishes between the photographers and the couple’s private security personnel.

A Mighty Heart is based on a book of the same name by Marianne, wife of slain American journalist Daniel Pearl.

Pearl was abducted and later killed by militants in Pakistan in 2002. The film is largely based on the life of the murdered journalist and is being co-produced by Pitt’s company.

Jolie plays the role of a pregnant Marianne in the film while Dan Futterman is doing the role of Pearl in the movie directed by Michael Winterbottom.

Parts of the film were shot in Pune due to their similarity with parts of Karachi, the city from where Pearl was abducted.

Due to the controversial subject of the film, the Pakistani Government had refused permission for shooting in that country.

Subsequently, the film unit hired a couple of bungalows in ‘Sindh Colony’ and the shooting begun on October 9.

During their stay, the couple visited an adoption centre and did some shopping in the city, besides touring Goa and Rajasthan.
