Brad & Angie Tour Gateway of India

Some of you have indicated that you’d love to visit Asia and other 3rd world countries but had bad experiences with food. I grew up in south east asia and I visited a lot of Asia and am rarely sick. If you are interested, here are my rules of thumb.

i. Don’t drink the water straight from the tap. Drink bottled water purchased from a reputable shop. PURE fresh squeeze juices (including fresh press sugarcane juice) are ok, if the guy looks to be doing brisk business and NO ICE. Drink it lukewarm if you have too. It’s all about turnover.

ii. Don’t eat the deep fried food because unfortunately, the oil hasn’t been changed for a long time. Cliniqua you’re not the first one to be caught on the deep fried stuff. an ex colleague of mine toured india on the rough and was fine until the last day when she ate a deep fried samosa. She was sick. The oil did her in.

iii. Fresh cooked food is fine be it noodles, stir fry dishes, stir fry noodles. BUT FIRST CHECK WHETHER THE STREET VENDOR IS DOING GOOD BUSINESS. Are there queues? Are the tables full?? If they are doing good business, then the Street vendors buy their food each day fresh - enough for the day and take a fresh delivery the next day.

iv. Eat Grilled food like satays, kebabs but check out the meat. Does the meat look healthy?? Don’t be shy to ask to sniff the damn things. The street vendors will most probably be happy to oblige. Just avoid deep fried foods. AGAIN check that the street vendor is doing brisk business. Turnover, turnover, that’s the key to freshness in Asia.

v. by all means, eat the seafood which if the place you stay is next to the sea or you see it swimming in a tank and you’ve picked the fish you want. I’ve eaten seafood in Mumbai (by the sea) but not New Delhi (1000km from the sea - they can’t keep it fresh). By that token, i NEVER EAT JAPANESE SUSHI etc in countries which have power shortages like India or Indonesia.

vi. ice cream, believe it or not, is usually fine. This is because most ice cream are made by big companies like nestle’s, walls, magnolia and NOT by the street vendors themselves. These names may not be familiar to americans and europeans but they are household names in different parts of Asia. These big companies do manufacture using good hygiene standards. The boxes of ice cream are transported to vendors in cooler boxes with dry ice packed into them. I’ve eaten many an ice cream like this when I was a child. Never been sick yet. Of course of the ice cream looks melted and refrozen its not a good idea but the truth is, these street vendors won’t have a freezer at home to refreeze the ice cream. So what melts is thrown away. The ice cream is generally fresh because dry ice can only last for so long before it evaporates. Their stocks are replenished daily. Still, I dont blame Brad and Angelina for being cautious. Better safe then sorry.

vii. dont eat the salads.

viii. For the very cautious - Buy your fruits from a reputable supermarket in places like India. Why? because I heard that some street vendors will inject (yes with a needle) water into the apple or orange to plump it up and so will weigh more. Don’t know if this is just an urban myth but there you go, I usually buy fresh whole fruits in reputable stores and supermarkets, even if I have to pay more.

ix. avoid food that looks like it has been sitting there. I go to Penang quite often and a popular way to sell curries is to cook them and have them sitting in warmers. Locals can eat those and not fall sick but some scientists once did a test on these curries and found them to have the highest levels of bacteria compared with fresh cooked food. The Nasi Biryani and Nasi Padang vendors were most irate. It made the local news:)

I think if you follow these simple common sense rules, you’ll be OK with the food. I’ve eaten my way through Shanghai, Beijing, Bangkok, Jakarta, etc etc. No problems. Cheers.

Life will not be worth living , if Brad and Angie are not together anymore. Please Lord let not this happen.

That theory is bollocks — and when you get a chance ask that person at work why Brad & Angelina are on the cover of every mag and rag every week, why websites just to get hits post their names, why their newborn daughter sold more magazines than any person in history, and why Mr & Mrs Smith grossed a half BILLION dollars worldwide. You wanna do that for me? Thanks. I’d be curious about her reaction to those very obvious FACTS. But maybe she lives under a rock - or perhaps it’s because she’s a faniston (LIKE YOU) who is embittered and jealous.

Caro .people really need to stop tripping about it BABEL making grip or not. It is. Understand its a indie, it’s been out all of 3 weeks, the first week was serious limited to 35 doggone theaters. Hell, people acting like they got a freakin finanicail stake in it! 7.5 mil aint nothing to sneeze at and especialy when major studio output have sputtered out of the box. Russell Crowe anyone? Seriously, people who said and say now they wont see it becuase of X had no intentions of seeing it anyway. That crowd and deep stuff, and deep stuff AND subtitles go together bout like store brand soda crackers and russian cavier.

I need to go and watch Babel again, because in my opinion, it is not making that much money. Somebody at work told me,that he was not that popular anymore. I thought it was not true ,but now i wonder what is going to happen to Angie’s movies. There is a backlash for sure, lets wait and see. Somebody please answer me with that theory.

You are talking crap, Brad is popular as ever. Even before he split with jennifer, he has movies that didnt do well at US domestic box office. Nothing new about it. In fact, right after he split with Aniston, MMS made a lot of money.

With regards to Babel, its is relatively doign well considering its an art film, and has not opened as wide as possible yet. But in the end it will do well after word of mouth. also, its an ensemble fil, in fact brad’s part is very small. Unfortunately, Brad is the biggest star in it, so its box office appeal rests on his shoulders.
