OT, I also saw Flushed Away with my kids this weekend, and I highly recommend it. Very funny, good story, a fun show for everyone.

This is not for the purpose of criticism. I’m simply curious.

Lately I’ve noticed more and more what could be considered negative commentary regarding Angelina’s body changes being made on the web, and those comments haven’t necessarily all come from non-fans.

Changes in her breast, her loss of weight, her body in some opinions is not as toned as it once was, and even concern about her hairline appearing to recede! More than a few of these comments ended with the person hoping Angie “gets back to how she once looked.”

Of course her physical attributes have contributed to her stardom and fame, and for the business she’s in, they’re a major part of her appeal, so what I want to know is how important is her outer appearance for some, and would you still be interested in her as an actor, as well as what she’d be doingl as a humaitarian regardless of her physical appeal.

I don’t think they are touching, but he was probably telling her:”there is going to be a new thread on jj”. Therefore the laugh.

bali - if one threw out the anti-Angelina and bias, then one should note that what makes her great is in the inside NOT outside. No amount of makeup, hair, cloth match what is truely her greatest asset - her inner beauty.

Those who focus on her appearance are missing out on what make sher special.

Beside, she is well known for going out in the field or in between sets without make-up etc.

That is possible but, in an interview she talked about not wanting to go to the OSCARS one year,,how it seemed so superficial..etc. but when she got there, she recognized that the people there were human beings too.. with their own insecurities and selfdoubts and it made her feel empathetic with them. I am paraphrasing if anyone has that quote it would be great to post it. Im just saying that I wouldnt be surprised either way.

Uh…she best show up at the Oscars if either she or Brad are nominated. I don’t care if she shaves her head and wears a potato sack but she and Brad are walking the red carpet on oscar night.

I wish that they were openly hugging, kissing, holding hands, etc. for the whole world to see so that we would not have this debate here whether or not their hands are touching in picture #2 or #3. I am sorry,but I am ready for some serious PDA.

Bali, I think her body looks the same as before the pregnancy, Remember the pix they took in July 2005, when she moved to Malibu? They were saying then, that she was losing weight. IMO, she looked her best in 2004, especially in her pix at the Cannes Festival. Her face was rounder. She looked stunning then. I must say sadly that I was attracted first by her beauty, then I came to like her for what she tries to accomplish. Other people probably must feel the same. So once you past the point of physical attraction, you remain a fan, but for people who don’t know her, I don’t blame them if they are only attracted by her looks. I hope she doesn’t take her physical appearance too lightly for that matter. I heard that a lot of women have problem with hair loss after they have a baby. I don’t know if it’s the case, but I don’t like the way her hair looks now. I like it when she had it up pinned in the back. I don’t like her in ponytail. As for receding hairline, I don’t think so. She is only 31, too early for that for a woman.

I was just thinking about Madonna’s comments in Time magazine and it got me thinking.

Why is that people feel they can just criticise and bash her Angie all they want? I truely don’t see her doing anything remotely awful to merit such loathing from people. By people I mean celebs. From Michael Douglas, to Donald Trump to Madonna possibly? I want to ask these people what exactly Angelina has done that was any worse than anything they have done themselves. It’s mind boggling to me that in this day and age the woman still gets trashed while the men remain relatively unscathed. I don’t mean to say that we should now be blaming Brad for anything (certainly not!), but theoretically, just from a purely women v. men point of view, it seems like Angie is seriously getting the raw end of the deal. When I say this I mean she seems to get blamed for absolutely everything. Also just based on reading comments on the web, it’s the women who bash her the most, but when it comes to celebs, it’s the men. Why is that?

Bunch of Loonies, I find it very laughable is that DT (who is known for his shady dealings) bashed her for her morals, and MDouglas (who considers himself a humanitarian and an activist) criticized her for adopting orphans. All the while, the men who praise her are the Colin Powells and Jeffrey Sachs of the world.

The first time I saw Angelina Jolie she was shimmering in the moonlight of the garden of Hollywood’s excluside Chateau Marmont hotel.

She was wearing jeans and a silky top, but radiated an unnerving sexiness. Her eyes locked into conversation with whoever intrigued her. It was as if they were the only person in the world, which was either charming or shy, depending on which way you looked at her.

Men stared in slack-jawed lust, a little afraid of her. Women stared at the ground or at each other in a mumbling, pouting sort of way.

This was long before there was Angelina and Brad. It was even before Billy Bob.

It seems that Angelina - striking, sexy, strong - is built in a way that women do not warm to. They see her as Alpha Vamp, too gothic to be a real mother.

Well, not any more - she’s having twins. There was never a love cauldron that raised more heat than the Brad/Jennifer/Angelina pot.

Female columnists around the world declared, “Angelina has a mouth designed for hoovering up husbands”.

Slogan T-shirts went on sale last year. Team Aniston outsold Team Jolie 25-1 because women identified with Jennifer’s pain. She was the victim.

She’d been dumped, like every one of them. Angelina is a different kind of woman. Just because she does not wear her pain on her sleeve and play the victim card, it does not mean she’s not vulnerable.

Actually, she does wear her pain on her arm. She has a tattoo, in Latin, that says “What Nourishes Me Also Destroys Me”. She’s a complex individual who has led a complicated life.

She says, “I think it’s more important to be understood than to be loved”.

Maybe that’s the same thing. What nobody seems to understand in this triangle is Brad left Jennifer. Angelina didn’t beg him or cajole him, manipulate or hoover him.

It’s shameful to perpetuate a myth of misogyny that says she was the one lacking in empathy or morals, especially when she states, “To be intimate with a married man when my own father cheated on my mother is not something that I could forgive. I couldn’t look at myself in the morning if I did that. It’s not nice to be breaking up a marriage.”

She was working on a mission in Niger when news reached the world that Jennifer and Brad had finally separated. Interesting the way that chauvinistic prejudice works. Brad was married. Angelina was single. It was Brad’s decision to end his marriage. This is all the evidence we have for sure, and surely it’s unfair for Angelina to carry all the blame.

Why, as women, do we identify with the victim? Angelina is not like other women. This makes her idiosyncratic, powerful, mesmerising. It should not make us hate her. She’s emotionally articulate. She’s lived, she’s learnt, she’s suffered, she’s smart.

She won an Oscar for her role in Girl Interrupted, set in a mental institution, and a Golden Globe for Gia, as the heroin-addicted bisexual model.

She kicked ass with last year’s blockbuster Mr and Mrs Smith, in which she literally tried to blow up her onscreen husband, Pitt.

She also fell for her husband Billy Bob Thornton on the set of Pushing Tin, but, hey, it’s not so unusual to meet your partner at work.

Her body is beautifully sculpted and she’s a true artist. She doesn’t care about the red carpet or handbags. Note, she’s always seen with the same one, a big old thing stuffed with baby paraphernalia. She does not believe in nannies.

“I am not going to be a mother who uses a nanny to do all the hard work while I have fun. That’s not my ethic.”

She works tirelessly, hands on and feet in the mud for the United Nations, and is its greatest ambassador since Audrey Hepburn.

She adopted Maddox in 2001 from Cambodia, while she was researching the part of an Aid worker for Beyond Borders. She adopted Zahara from Ethiopia last year.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees later appointed her Goodwill Ambassador. There is only one. She is not tokenistic in any way. Not a movie star on a vanity project.

She doesn’t do it to give her life more meaning. She does it to save people’s lives.

Aid workers who worked with her tell how she’s not afraid to ride for two days on a motorbike in the mud without showering. She sees herself as just one extra pair of hands able to dig. She makes $12 million to $20 million (R72 million to R120 million) a movie and gives a third away to charity.

She says, “If I have three million, I know one of them I can live without.”

She doesn’t just turn up and smile. She lobbies Congress to get aid, to get Bills passed, to change the world. In her role as Goodwill Ambassador she has visited more than 15 countries, including Kenya, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Haiti, Kosovo and Sierra Leone. In Pakistan, it was after the earthquake. Brad was with her. She has effected a transformation in him too.

“I put my head together, cover my tattoos, get into my suits, look clean, don’t dress sexy and try to present the woman that I’m not sure I am, but would like to aspire to be a little more. Everyone is always expecting me to be, or it’s been easier, to be the other girl.”

That other girl was from the dark side. The one who admitted to experimenting with drugs, knives and other women. She spoke about them all with searing honesty in a hope to explain herself, alienated her further from the world.

Her father was Jon Voight, the enigmatic actor who starred in Midnight Cowboy. Her mother is actress Marcheline Bertrand. They separated when she was one.

“I was always the punk in school. I didn’t feel clean or pretty. I felt interesting, odd or dark. I could understand the darker things, the moody things, the more emotional things.”

She grew up relating more to pain than happiness. She married actor Jonny Lee Miller when she was in her early 20s wearing black rubber trousers and a white shirt on which she had scrawled his name in blood. They split, but she is still close to him, saying that she was just too young.

“I wanted more from him than I could give him.”

This was the other girl who was hard on herself, who thought she had nothing to give - and now she’s giving so much.

She never thought she would be a mother. She was never the kind of child who was asked to babysit. In fact, when she needed to cry in movies, all she would do was extend her hand and imagine a child taking hold of it. Then the tears would come.

“I was always sure that I would never know that feeling.”

That feeling came when she first picked up baby Maddox at the orphanage in Cambodia. He was the last baby she visited that day. She held him and held him and when he opened his eyes there was a connection that made her whole life change.

With those eyes locked she fitted in a way that she never thought she could. No more slashing herself with knives “just to be able to feel something”.

Now holding Maddox was as profound.

“I held him for the longest time. When he finally woke up and stared at me we stared at each other and I was crying and he smiled.

“My discomfort with children was because I always assumed

I could never make them happy because I was accused of being dark. I wasn’t sure if I could be a great, loving, perfect mom, but

I wanted to be, so bad. He smiled and we hung for a few hours and I could make him happy and we felt like a family.”

Feeling like a happy family was something she had never had and, subsequently, jealously guarded.

She didn’t suddenly fall out of love with Billy Bob Thornton, to whom she was married at the time. Suddenly Maddox was her prime and primal concern. She didn’t think Billy Bob would be a great father to Maddox. “He wasn’t ready.”

This may seem, to the uninitiated, ruthless, but it was also strong and protective. She had changed dramatically. Maddox consumed her world. She didn’t want to be that person who carried a pendant of Billy Bob’s dried blood around her neck. She was more interested in flesh and blood.

She was out of the darkness because of Maddox and was determined he would never know its shadow. Her relationship with her own father had been at times close - and at times destructive. He disapproved of her adopting Maddox. She made the decision to keep him out of her life also, to protect Maddox.

“If you have people who put knots in your stomach, it makes you feel bad about yourself. You cry and then you get them out of your life. Be strong and focus your love elsewhere.

“I had some beautiful times with my father and I don’t think he’s a bad person. I just think we’re not a good family - there’s far too much pain.

“I never wanted to come home and yell at Mad because I was stressed after a bad lunch with my father.

“I am a good mother and a good friend. I am a good adoptive mother because I don’t see blood as family. I see it as time and love. You earn it.”

Although this may seem unorthodox, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a logic that is both profound and true. One must take into consideration that her childhood was painful.

Children from troubled upbringings usually only revisit that trouble in their own families, or decide that that will be too painful an experience and therefore never want children of their own.

Angelina had been adamant that she only wanted to adopt children, both because of this past and because “giving birth to one meant I could give one less child a home”.

Now she’s expecting twins, I see this more as a submission to Brad than an angle to ensnare him.

In fact, there was nothing of the ensnaring. She made it clear to him and to the world, if it cared to listen, that she is pretty independent and doesn’t need a man, and at least the kind of man she wanted would be hard to find.

“I just naturally don’t rely on men. That’s part of my problem with relationships. I have to be watchful not to allow myself to be too independent, to allow myself to need a man and let him help me.”

To live a life that is not needy or clingy would be pretty much an ideal one. It would be what most women want to achieve, yet why do we hate her instead of aspire to be like her? Because she’s got Brad? Because she’s a threat? And would we like her more if she were fat?

Most importantly Angelina doesn’t NEED you to like her and she doesn’t CARE if you like her which translates into power, immense power. She has everything, Brad, kids, her career, her humanitarian works, beauty, money……the list would never end. Plus she is not afraid to admit she isn’t perfect, she even makes fun of herself.

I think that the problem is that she is trying to have it and seems to be getting it. People like X thinks that everything has to be perfect in order to have kids; Angie got Maddox when her marriage to BBT was on it’s last leg; she got Zahara during the swell of disapproval against she and BP; and the world found out about Shiloh around the anniversary of the separation announcement and Shiloh was born the weekend before X’s movie came out. And she laid eyes on all of her little loves in non-white countries.

No weird rose-colored, Barbara Walters’ fuzzy-lensed interpretation of AJ’s life. And initially, I think a lot of the haters expected BP to drag AJ into this fuzzy lensed life, so they could in turn, ridicule, snub and ostracize her, without having to travel out of their comfort zones. But no, BP went, very willingly, into her world- jumping into Fuzzy-Lens Land only to fulfill his obligation to the studios, and hightailing it back to AJ and the kids, as he did last week. They feel that this level of commitment, on BP’s part, is wasted on the likes of AJ, when in fact it was wasted on X. They are scared shitless, because although the Xs of the world may have the support of the parents and family friends, they won’t necessarily keep the man, especially if the man is always the one who compromises.

I am loving it! I am elated seeing them having a family outing in Mumbai. I wish they would take time & visit Taj Mahal. I read in Sydney Australia newspaper describing Maddox a brown little boy. Geez, coming that to an Australian news item I am not a bit surprise. No offense, to people down under but it seemed to me most of them have hang ups with Asian people.

Brangelina lovers, IT WON’T LAST…It seems perfect but something seems strained somehow. We know perfect never lasts in the public eye..Look at Ryan and Reese…and even Jennifer and Brad before, I thought they were gonna be together forever.

I personally would be greatly saddened if it happens, but if it does, there is nothing I can do about it. Screaming at the ocean doesn’t really help. But as for Jennifer and Brad before, YOU thought they were gonna be together forever — I didn’t think so, especially after the “he’s not the love of my life” comments from her, and forgetting to thank him when she won — and then him saying that they are not the poster people for perfect marriage. Hey, they have been giving clues left and right that their marriage wasn’t what it appeared to be.

Hey man you are missing the whole point!! IMO they are not looking “perfect” in the Hollywood way like the examples you mentioned.They are not walking every red carpet event all dressed up holding hands and putting fake smiles on their fases and be perceived as something “golden”.In most of the times this kind of couples in reallity have no conection and nothing in commonn with each other as it proved to be in those tow cases.What is so facinating about Brad and Angie is that that they are the exact opposite of this.They are not showing much PDA in the public they are not pushing their Star agenta by putting them selves on a high relationship pedestal.They created a family together and they are just living their lives as they want.And they seem exctremly commited to each other by action and not just kisses and hugs.Plus they have been through a lot of critisism and scrutiny just to be together.I don’t think that any other couple would have lasted inside this constant harrasment.But they are tow mature people who have been through a lot and they are happy were they are now.That’s why I believe that their relationship will last much longer than some people thing.But even if they’ll break up after 15 years they will always be some people who’ll say “I told you it wouldn’t last”.It’s just plain stupid.

Angelina doesn’t need artificial enhancement. One who’s blessed enough with beautiful bone structure and very comely facial features. She maybe tired but the beautiful feature is out there still. She’s one of the rare natural beauties in showbiz that picture well w/o make-up. Aren’t we all tired of people pretending that their relationshps are perfect? Where does that lead, generally to divorce with people on the outside wondering what went wrong.

And you can no more predict the break up of someone’s union than you can predict the numbers to lotto. There’s a 50/50 chance that all couples will stay together or divorce, so anyone of us could be right or wrong about any given couple at any give time. In love there are no guarantees, I think everyone here accepts that. I do.

Personally, I think they exhausted those poor kids so they could take care of some business later on….LOL

Hi Angelah & Alexandrina, from San Diego. I’m WAY behind on this thread! My computer at home has been reacting slowly for the past few day…freezing up on me. Ugh!!! Thank God for IT guys at work though! At least I can “catch up” there! Ha, ha!

Zahara looks sooo healthy, I love it! You can tell she is going to be very tall. At her age, she is showing the length of someone twice hers. She is going to be a very tall woman, and clearly very beautiful. It’s interesting to see. Maddox is going to be a badass with a lot of styel and truly cultured with a hip sense of being.. I foresee him being on many a cover of magazine with ALOT to share. I think Zahara will be an advocate for her country, which I’m sure Angie will instill in her as she grows older, nurturing an appreciation for her country. And little Shiloh - well, considering her baby photos mirror that of Brads, only with those plump sexy lips to come to fruition, that child will be an icon - like a Marilyn Monroe with a world-wide sense of purpose. I’m excited to see them grow, and am already pleased that little Zahara, so sick as a baby, is now plumping up and growing with the love of two amazing parents. And with the exposure the Jolie-Pitt kids are getting, perhaps Z will spearhead a few humantarian efforts of her own. Of which of course, both Angie & Brad will nurture and adore. If the Jolie-Pitt offspring can continue even on a greater scale of what Angie & brad have started - well, we can rest knowing at least one or two people out there care - and do something about it all. I only wish I had that kind of power to help. But we each can do what we can individually, with them as an inspiration.
