Angelina Jolie’s Signature Smile
Angelina Jolie spoke to the media in Mumbai yesterday during a press conference to talk about her shooting experience in India for A Mighty Heart. She clarified that she and Brad Pitt have no plans to adopt an Indian baby. Read the full article after the jump but here what Angelina said on the importance of this film: “We need to tell the story of Daniel Pearl and the reason we are making this film is because it’s very important to have a dialogue between the two cultures. I have the blessings of Daniel Pearl’s family to play this role.”
UPDATE :: Added more pictures of Angelina Jolie in sandalas and carrying a brown leather bag on the set of A Mighty Heart from earlier today. Angie was spotted leaving the Anjuman-e-Islam school in Mumbai, India.
Angelina Scorches Indian Baby Rumors
It was an unusual start to an eagerly awaited press conference. Hollywood diva Angelina Jolie, who evidently kept her role as ambassador in mind at her first encounter with the Indian press on Wednesday evening, began with a confession.
“We have been avoiding the press since we landed in India, but the only reason was that we had a lot of work to do,”she said.
Jolie arrived at the conference in a white linen ensemble. Flanked by co-stars of the film, A Mighty Heart, her humble confession was followed with a terse rider: please ask questions pertaining to the film only.
The only personal query she allowed was one that enabled her to clear the air about rumours of her adopting again. No, Brangelina won’t be adding an Indian baby to their brood after all.
The evening began with the usual banter between her management team and the press. The ’screening’ of journalists took an inordinately long time, with some being asked to stay out of the conference.
For those who did eventually make it to the Princess room at the Taj, there was disappointment in store: producer Brad Pitt had decided to stay away. Was it to mind the babies? No one knows.
The actress insisted that A Mighty Heart was not about terrorism. “We need to tell the story of Daniel Pearl, and the reason we are making this film is because it is very important to have a dialogue between two cultures,”she said. “I had the blessings of Daniel Pearl’s family to play this role.”
When asked if Marianne Pearl was the most difficult character she had played in her career, the actress replied, “When you are in the middle of making a film, you always think that way.
Playing her role is certainly challenging for me, as I have to make the world understand this woman and her family.”
Jolie said that though she knew Marianne personally, she had never met anybody who had faced this kind of trauma.
“She has every reason to be embittered and angry about what happened to her husband and her, but she is very positive and has nothing against Pakistan,”she declared. Did Marianne visit the shooting or want to see rushes of the film? “She is not interested,”replied Jolie.
“She has been travelling around the world, writing on women’s issues.”
Indian actor Irrfan said that he had expected to get intimidated by the star but she went out of her way to make him comfortable.
“She has a very strong personality and it comes across,”said the actor who referred to Jolie as “Angie”during the conference.
And finally, Jolie’s take on Mumbai’s infamous suburban trains. When asked how her much-publicised ride on a local was, she replied straight-faced, “It was fun.”

With regards to Amaya’s Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert obsession in a B & A thread, I too, find it irrelevant and somewhat annoying. I hope she can at least minimize comments about them.

I agree I admire Brad and Angie. Those other two people? not so much.
Well written post, PI!
Karishma HAS come out with guns blazing, accusing ANGELINA of being a hypocrite, and yet when people rushed to defend Angie, she accused them of being judgmental and racist. People should be be given their day in court, and presumed innocent until proven guilty. But Karishma already assumed Angelina and her bodyguards guilty, and got upset with bloggers who wanted to wait until all sides had been heard from before making their own judgment. You know that condemning sh*t works in other blogs, but here at JJared people at least try to find out the facts first before coming to their own conclusion.
As was pointed out, how many times were there erroneous reports about Brad and Angie, such as the car accident, and the media had to retract their statements. But as far as other blogs go, the damage has been done.
I’ve been following the news and the comments about the fracas with the parents. Here’s my take on it. So far, we have only heard the stories from the parents and nothing from the bodyguards. Also the paps who were also involved, makes no mention of their role in the fracas, as if they were totally innocent, which I don’t believe.
Let the case be heard. This case will give the bodyguards a chance to present their point of view. Also more evidence will be collected when the case is heard. Time and time again, we have heard the tabloids blow things out of proportion where Brad and Angelina are concerned. time and time again, the tabloids write as if it was Angelina who was driving the car which knocked down the motorcyclist, only to find that she wasn’t even in the car which was driven by one of the drivers and it happens, she’s been driven by that driver previously.
The Indian Supreme Court is a well respected institution, with relative independance and integrity in India. However, the bodyguards will be heard in a local court, probably a magistrates or district court. Don’t know how good the lower courts inn Mumbai are. Perhaps stardust and karishma or some other Indians can confirm or deny this point. if the lower courts are anything like the Supreme Court, then we can be pretty confident of the body guards getting a fair hearing.
Karishma, I agree with your last statement about biasness of sad’s statement. I believe Sad and others should not over react. We must consciously resist this sort of fear based thinking.
The muslim community in India live peacefully with people of other religions. Despite the size and poverty and population pressures, India is an amazingly tolerant society. Sure there’s been blots in this relatively tolerant and peaceful society - like the tearing down of a mosque which alledgely was once the site of a Hindu temple and actions by muslim extremists in bombing Mumbai trains recently. But the truth is that MOST muslims around the world are as kind and tolerant as the ordinary BAMZS fan - really, truly they are. Muslims have been my work colleagues, my neighbours, my classmates all my life. I really do know what I’m talking about on this matter.
We MUST ALL REMEMBER THIS TRUTH - 99.999999% OF THE PEOPLE OF THIS WORLD - INCLUDING MUSLIMS, JUST WANT TO LIVE IN PEACE, WITH A GOOD FUTURE FOR THEMSELVES AND/OR THEIR CHILDREN - even the haters who pop in here to spread their malice. The 0.0000001% of terrorists in this world do a lot of damage, But the real damage they inflict is to polarise us, to divide us, to demonise one group of people over the other. I repeat, we must consciously resist this type of fear based thinking. This is believe is the message of the film, A Mighty Heart.
On the issue of “… we do not have the aggressive paparazzi like out there so you will not have actual footage of the entire incident.” written by Karishma, I would have to disagree. I’m sure that the Indian press has its fair share of aggressive paps. Why? Because Indian press is free (- which is a fantastic thing.) However, being free press, Indian press, are subject to the same pressures as American and UK and all other free presses - they must also make money. This means the following things:
(a) that the Indian press will spin things to help them sell copies - just like their american and UK etc counterparts. To say that Angelina knocked down a motorcyclist sure makes better news then to say one of her drivers knocked someone down when she wasn’t even sitting in hte car.
(b) India has its own highly aggressive paparrazi. Indian movie stars, do get mobbed. Indian politicians do get stung (who can forget the wonderful case of investigative journalists pretending to be middle eastern business men, paying a minister a bribe - all caught on tape).
(c) Indian media/paps, have been following Brad and Angelina around. I can’t believe that there was NO video camera at the time the kerfuffle took place because the Indian paps are NOT aggressive. Even they are not aggressive, the Indian press have the same pressures as anyone else to get that photo, to get that video shot of Angelina doing something - anything interesting. The Indian press have the technology and the same reasons as anyone else to use it.
So, I believe that sooner or later, fresh video footage will surface and we’ll see the truth emerge. We just have to be patient.
PI - Will be back later. I have to take off somewhere.
Hope you’re still around when I log on.
Allright fine I agree maybe I just posted in about Angie being hypocritical just way too soon. I was upset at that turn of events and probably it coming from Angie’s camp! SO here I state it I APOLOGISE FOR THAT COMMENT ON MY PART!! Someone had stated earlier would I apologise if I felt I was wrong? SO here I am apologising for concluding it too soon on JOLIE!
But here is what I still stand by, I condemn the actions of the body guards! And if they do not issue an apology I will state that it is hypocritical. Ok maybe Jolie did not know it then right? She was shooting she cannot be held responsible, but in some ways their actions reflect on her. She must urge them to give an apology, if they do not then well things can be presumed..
I never mentioned even once that whatever is happening in Mumbai right now is grave injustice, there are far greater problems than just some celebrity scuffles! I am not that retarted PI! And no I am not trying to create agitation in here, if you read the comments earlier are you telling me that all the crap dished out about INDIA is perfectly rational and logical and not just fired upon without any thinking. Ok I agree I made a mistake but I have the guts to accept it that I reacted too soon, you know what I am human and I was very upset then, but all the other comments here are as bad as mine. If i commented on a person too soon did not they about a country??
Just FYI (and with no other intent) the guards did not surrender themselves, 5 of them were arrested coz there were complaints against 3 people of the team and they were taken to the police station for verification coz they refused to tell who was who at the hotel (now that is not me it is the news channel reporting it). They have been booked under 3 acts of the Indian Penal COde and all of them are bailable warrants. As far as the shooting is concerned it cannot be continued now until they get police clearance, which may be by tonight….
@lylian
No Indian media does not have that kind of technology that paparrazzis have. There was a show done on TV channels in which editors stated that no one has that kind of access here.Yes our stars do get mobbed but no one follows them around, it is just at parties or other private functions. Yes we have a free press but trust me we do not have the kind of paparrazzi madness that happens normally. Stinging operations are the craze here…
Karishma, I admire your honesty in accepting when you were wrong blaming Angelina. But the thing is, the damage is already done, words thrown in anger cannot be retrieved. Whether you agree or not, your first post created an uneasiness in people’s mind. It spoke of sensationalism. If you haven’t thrown words like that in the first place, no one would make a defensive stand and have their hackles rising. You could have said it in a very calm manner but you were angry, furious even. You convey in your post that what’s happening is an injustice of a great kind. You wouldn’t write 4 pages about just a little “celebrity scuffle” as you term it.
You are intelligent, and you know enough that some that posts here have the brain capacity of an ant. You know better than to be riled up by posts that spews racism and intolerance. Do not stoop to their level.

What racist comments?
Ok, someone used my name to say ugly things.
Whoever it was, do not use other’ name.
As someone mentioned, it seems people are after Angie/Brad’ blood. If I have to face this kind of things everyday, I will be under so much stress and just fade away. So I admire Angie/Brad more and more. For this incidence, I guess we have to wait and see what happens. If anybody has access to Indian news, please update.
I’m off but I’ll leave you with the words the great Gandhi “I believe in equality for everyone, except reporters and photographers.” Gandhi is truly ahead of our time. He knows this truth even way back then. Lol.
To Karishma:
“Whenever you have truth it must be given with love, or the message and the messenger will be rejected.”
Mahatma Gandhi
And to everyone:
“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”
Mahatma Gandhi
Peace All.

Those arrested were identified as Thomas Mcadam (47), Robert Patrick (35) and Michael John Brett (50); all British nationals. The three are likely to be produced at Killa Court later on Friday.

This is not good. Brad and Angelina need to get out of India NOW. Forget about this movie.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
While I agree that they should leave ASAP, they should not forget about this movie. I went to that ibn website and if the posters are any indication of the true nature of the Indian citizens, they have major persecution complexes. Mind you, there may be historical precedents to this feeling, but it absolutely colors the way they see the world. It’s telling that the consensus is that a racial slur warrants immediate deportation. Has this punishment been implemented among its citizens? Because I am sure that everything isn’t all hunky-dory among everyone in India.

WELL SAID. BRAVO!!!!!
According to ibnlive the bodyguards were arrested so they can be identified by the parents if the id process is correct they will be in court. We’ll have to wait for tomorrow’s news to know how the id process went.
First off, Angelina is not responsible for anyone’s actions except her own. She’s an actress making a movie or at least trying to in India. Name a single event ever, that an actor is held responsible for anything someone whether it be security, food catering or a grip did on a movie being made?
That has to be the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.
Souljolie has 2 new pics of Maddox http://www.souliejolie.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19678&st=0&#entry373927
How much do you want to bet they name Mickey because they’ve seen him in the news with scuffle with that British pap?
bluemoon Says:
That POOR boy. Obviously, Brad doesn’t have much say in what happens to Maddox. Because if he did, he would not let him have that horrible haircut. And lightening now, too?
Yuckety YUCK.
Oh stop it. Brad Pitt used to highlight his own hair ALL the time back in the day so that’s a riduclous comment.
You obviously don’t have children. I can’t tell you how many times kids want color or something else done to their hair. The kids having fun. Leave him alone
Maddox has paint on his face and chest like he did with that pic with Brad buying the airplane. Maybe Maddox was at some kids event. About the hair I hope it was just a one week thing because I don’t like it either.
Anyone from India do they have such programs for kids. Because I thinking that maybe the highlighting was done for that also. (at least I am hope)
wow, I didnt know maddox’s hair was that long in the back
Court grants bail to Angelina’s guards

I’m trying really hard not to be paranoid here, but, I admit, when I read it was a Muslim school, my heart dropped. Isn’t it sad that Americans have been “taught” to fear Muslims? Brad must be s*itting bricks!! While I don’t condone “hate speech” against anyone, I have to admit, if I were a bodyguard in such a situation, worse words than “Bloody Indians” would be coming out of my mouth. Seeing as bloody is used in every way possible by the Brits, it really doesn’t seem like that big of an insult - however, I’m not Indian, and if they had said “Bloody New Yorkers” maybe I would have felt differently. Nope… Do you think some of it has to do with remnants of British Imperialism?
JMHO, but I think the school and production people screwed up big time on this one. From other posts around here, I gather the Indian razzi are vying with the original Italian ones to give themselves a bad name.
LOL on Maddox’ hair. Somehow, I think if he didn’t want it that way, it wouldn’t BE that way. Did anyone ever find out where Brad went with the 2 older kids? Did they really go anywhere? Did he?
TGIF - it’s been a loooong week.
She probably had the hair and make up person from the set do it
