Read the full article after the jump but here what Angelina said on the importance of this film: “We need to tell the story of Daniel Pearl and the reason we are making this film is because it’s very important to have a dialogue between the two cultures. I have the blessings of Daniel Pearl’s family to play this role.”

UPDATE :: Added more pictures of Angelina Jolie in sandalas and carrying a brown leather bag on the set of A Mighty Heart from earlier today. Angie was spotted leaving the Anjuman-e-Islam school in Mumbai, India.

Angelina Scorches Indian Baby Rumors

It was an unusual start to an eagerly awaited press conference. Hollywood diva Angelina Jolie, who evidently kept her role as ambassador in mind at her first encounter with the Indian press on Wednesday evening, began with a confession.

“We have been avoiding the press since we landed in India, but the only reason was that we had a lot of work to do,”she said.

Jolie arrived at the conference in a white linen ensemble. Flanked by co-stars of the film, A Mighty Heart, her humble confession was followed with a terse rider: please ask questions pertaining to the film only.

The only personal query she allowed was one that enabled her to clear the air about rumours of her adopting again. No, Brangelina won’t be adding an Indian baby to their brood after all.

The evening began with the usual banter between her management team and the press. The ’screening’ of journalists took an inordinately long time, with some being asked to stay out of the conference.

For those who did eventually make it to the Princess room at the Taj, there was disappointment in store: producer Brad Pitt had decided to stay away. Was it to mind the babies? No one knows.

The actress insisted that A Mighty Heart was not about terrorism. “We need to tell the story of Daniel Pearl, and the reason we are making this film is because it is very important to have a dialogue between two cultures,”she said. “I had the blessings of Daniel Pearl’s family to play this role.”

When asked if Marianne Pearl was the most difficult character she had played in her career, the actress replied, “When you are in the middle of making a film, you always think that way.

Playing her role is certainly challenging for me, as I have to make the world understand this woman and her family.”
Jolie said that though she knew Marianne personally, she had never met anybody who had faced this kind of trauma.

“She has every reason to be embittered and angry about what happened to her husband and her, but she is very positive and has nothing against Pakistan,”she declared. Did Marianne visit the shooting or want to see rushes of the film? “She is not interested,”replied Jolie.

“She has been travelling around the world, writing on women’s issues.”

Indian actor Irrfan said that he had expected to get intimidated by the star but she went out of her way to make him comfortable.

“She has a very strong personality and it comes across,”said the actor who referred to Jolie as “Angie”during the conference.

And finally, Jolie’s take on Mumbai’s infamous suburban trains. When asked how her much-publicised ride on a local was, she replied straight-faced, “It was fun.”

Thanks Alexanderina for posting this. Im sorry but i never did think they said what they got accused of. The way the dude on the video said it is what convinced me. It was to much chaos for one thing and felt like so many agitators were there totally about riling the people up more and so I think no one heard it, but told that they did and it was on.

This is soooooooooo bad, ugh, I awayls thought that Angelina should had take a year off, she is too exposed.

“As for Ritzy’s comment that Brad obviously has nothing to say about Maddox’s hair, well, ol’ gal….eat your words, because Brad even cur his own mohawk for a few days in Namibia, and I can bet it was some kind of bonding thing with Maddox, for them to “look alike” or something along that line”

Great post. I forgot about above and Brad really wnt further than his sons cut because Maddox just had a fauxhawk but Brad had it all shaved but for the middle. I am so happy to rememberd this.

Yep! He sure did. I think Brad’s wild side is something that many of his pre-Angelina admirers don’t want to face. I mean, geez, what about those Fight Club pics of him in the dresses? LOL! Those are a riot! ……bet the man’s a freak in the bedroom, too, but *ahem* I best not go there right now, hee hee!

Anyway, what about Brad going to the Indian Authorities himself? Woot! He could have sent a spokesman, but no, he did it himself. What a man, what a man, what a man, what mighty goooooood man, say it again, ya’ll…..

Thanks Jared & Audrey @ 11/17/2006 at 9:27 am

I hope he dosent apologize for something that wasnt perped by his crew. I seen the video and you cant tell me more truth was in it than not, and if anything its the officials and the school who shuld be apologiving.

Thanks Jared & Audrey @ 11/17/2006 at 9:28 am

make that “apologizing not apologiving”

Do you any you not find this entire school scuffle a bit ODD? This segment of the film is being shot in a muslim school about an amerian who was killed by mulsim militants. The material and content of the film is contentious enough to get the parents feathers all ruffled to say the least. In the current political climate muslims are very sensitive to any cultural, religious, ethnic slur/slight that they perceive even if the intentions are good ones (as is with the film of Marianne Pearl). I have to wonder whether the parents anger/aggression displayed so authenticaly for all the media and cameras and indian press on display is actually because of the so called slurs by the bodyguards or whether if in fact they were simply affronted/outraged that this film was taken place in a muslim school? We also have to ask ourselves, if this had been an ordinary indian school would the reaction have been so heated? Would the bodyguards actually have been in that situation? I am by all means not condoning the actions nor comments of the bodyguards, but after seeing the footage of the riot scene on access hollywood am “questioning” the motives of the parents. In this day an age when a scene made is not just a scene made, but a politcal statement, one cannot always take the truth as being what is said.

You keep saying this Shes not overexposed, shes doing her job and the nature of her gig brings about her being in the spotlight. She should not have to split and hide the scene because the paps dont know boundaries.

I do, too.

So he and Angie are in Mumbai together? I guess he came back from his ad shoot. He was probably bustin’ at the seams to get back when he found out all this happened.

This certainly doesnt look good on all parties involved. These are the things I am learning:

1.) there is no order and control while a film is been shot in India. Brad and Angelina have shot all over the world and they never had an incident like this. So, why is India different. Of course, there are crowds but there are everywhere. How come in this case they are *different*

2.) there seem to be a lack of communication between the directors or owners of the venues in which they shoot the movie and the occupants/visitors. i.e in this case, I wonder if the parents werent properly advised of what was going on and how long it was going to take. If they were then all this panic and anger could have been avoided.

3.) why is India a paparazzi utopia. Why does India let all these foreign paps into the country to *do as they please*. Isnt that been walked all over and having thy image ruined too.

4.) law and order - why does it seems like the production body guards have to DO most of the WORK here. Whither the local police strength. Mickey & Co and the production companty security shouldnt be working so so hard. It should be the other way around…with the local police doing most of the job. No wonder the body guards lost it once the gates opened. Was there some miscommunication between the parents at the gates - about when to get in and how long etc

5.) does anyone in India understand that Brad and Angelina came to *work* so to speak. And that there is no need to have high expectations for gossipy stuff.

These are some of the things that I pick up from this event or shooting. It is like the most disorganized film shot. And no, I am not picking on India, just want to know why this particular film production is having so much problems there.

A better way to say my point is ” the video tells more truth than not and I cant imaging that more would tell a different story as some other poster thinks.”

Why must Angie take a year off!! The paps are too darn greedy for photos of this family. The minute that video of Mickey w his hands around that paps neck, you don’t think the paps didn’t see a way to get to these two!!! It was their bodyguards in Namibia that kep the paps a bay and didn’t allow them to get their million dollar pic of Shiloh!!

I think you can blame US Weekly for the way B&A carry themselves now reguarding the paps….they made alot of money from those Kenya pic that brought their relationship out in the open….since then B&A try to control things and the paps don’t like that they can’t get “exclusive” pics of this family.

This is an excellent point, katie, and I agree that it was bad judgement to use this location for a number of reasons:

The subject matter of the movie, as it portrays Muslim terrorists, and doesn’t do anything to help ideas in the west that all Muslims are NOT terrorists.

And that they filmed while children were there. They should have done it after hours. They didn’t need the children to be there to give authenticity, since the location wasn’t even being depicted as a school, but a police station.

If anyone should be “blamed” for these mistakes, it’s Brad, as producer, not Angie, as actor in the project. So, it IS fitting that Brad is answering to this, it’ his company. However ITA with ya’ll who say he shouldn’t apologize for “racial slurs” or “pushing and shoving women and children” if none of that happened. Perhaps a compromise would be to apologize for not coordinating the location better. Either way, Angie is not to blame, and it is nice to see him take the heat off of her.

_______________

I wanted to say this once I read more about the school. So, yeah ITA.

I think there is a large number in India that is not too happy with a movie like this been shot there. Just my opinion.

Like I said, at the end of the day, ALL parties involved look bad:

- local police and security company - too lax and passive to not bee able to take control
- India - certainly doesnt look capable of handling a high powered foreign film
- media in India - too much into sensationalism and less into retraction.
- Brad, Angelina & production team - for having high expectations from the get go
- body guards - for evn trying to control the situation when the local law & order really cant
- paps - for overstepping their boundaries

Have I left anyone out…

Morning to my fellow BAMZS fans, sorry I had to post and run, getting ready for work. This is JMO, I don’t need that Angie, Brad or their people need to apologize because to me looking at the video I did not see the bodyguards doing anything wrong, because even Brad and Khan, the Indian actor, said that the bodyguards did not use racial slurs or religious slurs again anybody, so why should they apologize. I just want them to finish up shooting and get the hell out of India, that place is to crazy

Thanks Jared & Audrey @ 11/17/2006 at 9:50 am

gitane, this is one hell of a excuse to get out of it! lol
