Angelina Jolie spoke to the media in Mumbai yesterday during a press conference to talk about her shooting experience in India for A Mighty Heart. She clarified that she and Brad Pitt have no plans to adopt an Indian baby. Read the full article after the jump but here what Angelina said on the importance of this film: “We need to tell the story of Daniel Pearl and the reason we are making this film is because it’s very important to have a dialogue between the two cultures. I have the blessings of Daniel Pearl’s family to play this role.”

Angelina Scorches Indian Baby Rumors
It was an unusual start to an eagerly awaited press conference. Hollywood diva Angelina Jolie, who evidently kept her role as ambassador in mind at her first encounter with the Indian press on Wednesday evening, began with a confession.
“We have been avoiding the press since we landed in India, but the only reason was that we had a lot of work to do,”she said.
Jolie arrived at the conference in a white linen ensemble. Flanked by co-stars of the film, A Mighty Heart, her humble confession was followed with a terse rider: please ask questions pertaining to the film only.
The only personal query she allowed was one that enabled her to clear the air about rumours of her adopting again. No, Brangelina won’t be adding an Indian baby to their brood after all.
The evening began with the usual banter between her management team and the press. The ’screening’ of journalists took an inordinately long time, with some being asked to stay out of the conference.
For those who did eventually make it to the Princess room at the Taj, there was disappointment in store: producer Brad Pitt had decided to stay away. Was it to mind the babies? No one knows.
The actress insisted that A Mighty Heart was not about terrorism. “We need to tell the story of Daniel Pearl, and the reason we are making this film is because it is very important to have a dialogue between two cultures,”she said. “I had the blessings of Daniel Pearl’s family to play this role.”
When asked if Marianne Pearl was the most difficult character she had played in her career, the actress replied, “When you are in the middle of making a film, you always think that way.
Playing her role is certainly challenging for me, as I have to make the world understand this woman and her family.”
Jolie said that though she knew Marianne personally, she had never met anybody who had faced this kind of trauma.
“She has every reason to be embittered and angry about what happened to her husband and her, but she is very positive and has nothing against Pakistan,”she declared. Did Marianne visit the shooting or want to see rushes of the film? “She is not interested,”replied Jolie.
“She has been travelling around the world, writing on women’s issues.”
Indian actor Irrfan said that he had expected to get intimidated by the star but she went out of her way to make him comfortable.
“She has a very strong personality and it comes across,”said the actor who referred to Jolie as “Angie”during the conference.
And finally, Jolie’s take on Mumbai’s infamous suburban trains. When asked how her much-publicised ride on a local was, she replied straight-faced, “It was fun.”

While Hollywood actors aren’t a novelty to India, the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have invented media emotion. During their ongoing stay in Pune, they have been involved in a motorcycle accident, followed by their security guard allegedly pulling a gun on a journalist. The most Indian experience they have had is a three-wheeler ride, and while not on set, they remain ensconced in their hotel. Pune could learn a lesson from Namibia where the couple had their first child. Journalist and media persons were denied visas, the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were given state security, and as a result of the peace which Namibia able to provide, Namibia was thanked with over $300,000 for medical aid, and is on the world tourism map.
Even if Pune doesn’t extend itself as much, it must protect its tourists, celebrity or otherwise, from harassment, and in this context, make it clear to the journalist that hooliganism and the violation of other’s freedom will not be tolerated. So far, the only Pune the media has covered involves uncouth incidents, rather than the city’s scenic beauty. This is a golden opportunity for Pune to showcase its hospitality and attract tourists. It should remember that just because it’s being used as a substitute for a city of violence, harassment and inhospitality, doesn’t mean it needs to become one

Too bad that the India Media failed to look at the larger picture in general and choose to pick on the nitty witty non-significant stuff. This in all tell alot about the culture and community in general . Anyway .. too bad they missed over one month of free press and publicity for a country that may not need help (financially) but sure could work with some tourism and other free awareness promo.

First, I’m cynical about the Indian press, not India itself. Just like I don’t trust the mainstream media in America, yet I do love the country. Just because I’m Indian doesn’t mean I have to love everything about my country or can’t be realistic with my assertions.

I believe Brad and the X were sharing most of their time with the X’s best friend and husband (CCox and DA), but they did spend time with Dermot Mulroney and Catherine Keener when they were still married.

Great post. I agree with you about the press in general. You have to be skeptical about all the news coming, because there are a lot of mistruths, halftruths, and flat out lies being propagated by the press these days and to me it’s sad and scary. So many people automatically believe everything that is printed and you can’t do that. You really do have to do your research before taking something as the honest truth.

The Indian media blew it. That’s it, no Hollywood star will shoot a movie there for a long time. This is not the nation’s fault, but largely fault of their media. But really I don’t care. By the time AMH comes out, this will be forgotten, and there will be new controversies, new reasons for the haters to hate on.

I noticed that too. The only point in the video where I see a bodyguard I recognize (and yes I realize I don’t know all of them) is when Angie & Mickey walk out of a building and get immediately into the car. I see people who I assume to be the parents and some type of police officers or guards pushing back but again none of them look like the bodyguards who have been with Brad & Angie since they got there.

So much thanks stardust. It’s nice to have a balanced story from someone who has personal ties to India. I hope it comes thru that I dont hold all at fault for what a few have done. Its messed up that the press has that kind of control and sway over what the population is privy too and sad that the real deal isn’t demanded. It sounds like the press of old here in America before tv. **** was said in the papers and those who could read got whatever tale was spun, and those who couldnt got stuck with the trickle down which of course didnt sound a damn thing like the lie it started out as.

I wonder if there’s something in common between Jolie’s bodyguards and her fans, because some of the fans do act very bullishly. They verbally attack everyone who disagrees with them on Jolie or her lover Pitt.

I just saw the Splash video and unfortnately it doesn’t reflect to well on India. Nothing really happened except people were upset they couldn’t get into the school, understandable I guess, but if the crew has already made arrangements with the school and other officials how angry at them can you be? The same happens anywhere something is filmed so if we are to be angry at them then we have to be angry at all movie stars who dare to film a movie.
I don’t see where Karishma’s story comes in because it doesn’t look like any part of Jolie’s entourage was involved, just other Indian officials.
If her bodyguards did do ANY OF WHAT WEVE HEARD she ABSOLUTELY IS RESPONSIBLE - NO QUESTION! And she should WANT to apologize!! This idiot Mickey is completely out of control and yes she is the one who allows it and she should suffer the consequences. Her life is not more important than ANY of those people or children. Also I think its an abomination to blame everything on the paparazzi - when people get hurt and/or insulted because someone doesnt want to be photographed its an insult to my intelligence to buy into it. ITA with all who saw the splash-video — I did not see Mickey at all except the one time he was with Angie. All I saw was a bunch of people pushing, the papz taking pictures and the children all laughing and having a good time, and one irate parent I guess who’s railing at the “foreigners”. So I guess Karishma’s demand for Angelina to apologize is a little premature, don’t you think?

I think it’s funny how you note our bullishness, however, skip over when detractors bully themselves. From the way it seems to me there are times when each side acts a bit crazy. Don’t worry, I know what you mean about not blaming everyone for the fault of a few. The thing that bothers me the most is that even thought the truth trickles out later and the media is proven wrong..yet they never acknowledge the corrections to the story and people end up believing the original story, even though half of them are probably filled with half-truths.

I also think the Mumbai media is angry at Angelina because many of the media people were left out of the press conference and they were angry about not getting access inside where the conference was taking place.
A story from CNN-IBN said:
“Meanwhile, certain sections of the media are incensed for not having been invited them to Jolie’s maiden press conference at a city hotel on Thursday evening.
In spite of a huge media contingent which landed at a five-star hotel in South Mumbai after learning of the press conference, only selected mediapersons were allowed to enter the venue.
Hotel officials said the producers of the film, for which the actress is in India, wanted only a section of the media to be present at the press conference here.
When majority of the media contingent was not allowed to enter the venue, they protested with the hotel authorities but to no avail.”
You can see the video of the incident in splashnews. It’s a total chaos, you can see one of the parents gesturing the cameraman to come forward, and then there were a lot of pushing. I see no violent gesture from the policeman. The guy who claimed “This foreigner has pushed us” was the same guy who pushed another Indian man along with five other people, plus the other person was grabbing the man’s jaw. I dont understand Indian language, maybe someone else can explain what happened?

I say nothing about Aniston because Aniston is a nothing to me. That has nothing to do with what I posted. I just think ALL CELEBS should think of the other people around them and their safety instead of just their own safety. This Mickey character has many times attacked photographers over a picture - He’ll soon become one of Brangelinas biggest liabilities. Actually he already is. Please dont misunderstand - I realize they need security in case of harm or abduction but over a picture?? That is putting one persons desire for privacy above other peoples safety and that is absolutely WRONG! I hope I made myself a bit more clear, I think everyone should have some sense of privacy but in the case of celebs I believe it has gotten way out of hand - meaning the length they will go to - to preserve their privacy. Please dont make this into some stupid argument involving Brads Ex-wife - She is not someone I even care to discuss.

Sorry to laugh at you, but…come on…”bloody Indians” and “bloddy Muslims” ARE NOT RACIAL SLURS! Here’s an example of a racial slur - I work at a medical school and the Indian physicians are referred to as LBD’s by the racist twits around here. What’s an LBD? Little Brown Doctor. THAT is a racial slur. “Bloody Indians” is like saying “damned Indians” of “F###ing Indians”. Maybe “bloody” is a a racial slur in India, but in most of the rest of the world it’s just a minor cuss word. And the last time I checked people born in India are “Indians”.
