Beyonce Performing “Listen” on ‘Oprah’

The stars of Dreamgirls stopped by The Oprah Winfrey Show today! Beyonce performed “Listen” from the movie’s soundtrack. Before singing, Beyonce introduced the song: “”This is the moment where Deena finally finds her voice. The whole movie she’s been manipulated and she’s kind of lost her own opinions. I think a lot of women can relate to the lyrics.” Watch the video of Beyonce performing “Listen” below! Dreamgirls is out in theaters this Christmas!

Beyonce on kissing Jamie Foxx: “I wasn’t nervous when I had to kiss Jamie. I’ve done onscreen kisses before, and every time it makes you a little uncomfortable. I’m a singer first, so I still have to get used to that. But he was very professional, and I had to look at it as Deena kissing Curtis.” Jamie joked, “Yes, that’s the way I looked at it, too… And I see your parents [in the audience]. I see your father out there!”

The cast: Beyonce (Deena Jones), Jamie Foxx (Curtis Taylor Jr.), Jennifer Hudson (Effie White), Anika Noni Rose (Lorrell Robinson), and Eddie Murphy (James ‘Thunder’ Early).

HowEmbarrassing, I only mentioned the location of my residence because blkhoney88 said “You must be a 12 yr old leaving in a one stoplight town outside of ColdWater, Mississippi….” The issue was brought up by blkhoney88.

Sad but true @ 11/21/2006 at 6:27 pm

I think race issues and racism is just as prevalent as it was 50 years ago. People just know how to hide their racist opinions better but having read blogs over a period of two years, not just this one, but various ones, anonymitiy allows people to say some truly disgusting things about other races.

Racism is unfortunately still a huge problem that this country refuses to deal with in a straight forward and honest manner. Until then, problems will only get worse, not better.

Holy sh!t ‘HowEmbarrasing’ is the most appropriately named person on here.

You took what I said and totally missed the context in which each statement was made.

Please revisit the material and refrain from boasting about your intellect or social standing (offering pysch help LOL…too fu(king funny).

Preference for a race (familiar or otherwise) is the very definition of racism you tw@t.

You lose over and over. You reiterate my points and try to twist them to back your own low brow, uneducated, ignorant, comically stupid point of view. Your a poor, low class, typical, racist b!tch. You whine about everything and do nothing. You’re a waste and you’re the only reason Straussian philosophy and political theory actually makes sense. Someone as dumb as you shouldn’t have a say in how anything happens.

I have issues with race? I’m asking you here. Because you’re the one who thinks black people are better. It’s quite obvious and terribly funny.

I don’t have problems with black people. I have problems with stupid people. I have a problem with you.

Now you’ll pretend you aren’t low minimum wage black chick with a head set on grabbing some time to herself by surfin that internets… and I’ll laugh at you again.

““it’s okay to have an all black show. There have been all white shows and are still. So that’s acceptable racism?””

I AM RESTATING YOUR POINTS YOU FU(KING RET@RD!!!!!!!!!

I am asking if it’s acceptable racism.

Please don’t pepper your idiocy with oh so poignant political jokes. It makes me cringe that someone does that and thinks he or she is clever. It’s just irritating.

You’re irritating. Every uppity, self righteous chick is irritating and you all need a big glass of STFU.

In summation: you’re a total loser you just got her big plus sized a$$ handed to her (a couple times) and you should remember your place and speak when spoken to and even then, only when asked to speak.

Suck on that like you would my big fat white thunder stick.

HowEmbarrasing @ 11/22/2006 at 11:21 am

Wow, I worry for you. Now you are trying to overcompensate for your low self-worth by trying to appear more intelligent than you truly are. Your racism shows through by you deciding that I am, as you put it, a “low minimum wage black chick with a head set on grabbing some time to herself by surfin that internets”. I grew up around black people and studied African American History and culture in college (you know, one of those real big buildings with a bunch of people in it where they show you thing you didn’t know before so you can learn something new) and just because I respect what black people have gone through doesn’t mean I think that they are better. However, I think that right now I’d rather be ANYTHING other than white just to disassociate myself from you with the idiotic babble spewing from your computer. You are an embarrassment to HUMAN kind (hence the name). And for the record, the only person who is ‘whining’ is you. Now, can you tell me what YOU have done since you say that I “whine about everything and do nothing”? Are you a member of the KKK? Is that you doing your part?

Why are YOU trying to define ME by a color? Isn’t that exactly what you are mad at black people about? And why would that color have to be black? Does my intelligence or being correct offend you, which in turn makes you WANT to believe I’m black to make it easier to dismiss my words and hate me for speaking a truth about you that you refuse to see? Does seeing me as a fat, know-it-all, black chick make you feel better about your state of denial by believing that if I look like something you don’t find attractive then my being right about you can’t hurt you? Is the connection of why you would not find a black woman attractive because of your intimidation of the black male’s sexual stereotype of which, if compared to, you would probably be found lacking? Is that why you decided to describe your “thunder stick” as “big fat white”? Does “uppity, self righteous chick” refer to every female with an opinion opposite of your or is it just the females who turn you down for dates because they found you moronic and uninteresting? Do you have a problem with me because you think I’m black and therefore stupid or do you have a problem with your being shown your own stupidity as a person by someone you think is black?

You fascinate me. Never have I seen anyone so far in denial over his shortcomings, fears and own inadequacies. From the way it sounds, you have a classic inferiority complex due to media hype over the ‘urban’ lifestyle and it’s attractiveness to the women you’ve met leaving you feeling unwanted and unloved. I would love to publish a paper based on this blog and your ideals. Did your first love leave you for a black man or did you have a crush on a black woman who said, “I only date black guys”? How was/is your relationship with your mother? How about your father? Was he present in your life? Are you well adapted to interactions with the opposite sex on a daily basis? Do you find yourself a bit self-conscious or do you consider yourself self-assured? Do you have many friends? Any ‘black’ friends? Would you date a black woman (or man) and if not, what is your circumspection?

In all of this, America probably could be a better place if people like Stanley had better views but this is what makes this country ours. For someone to have such a hypocritical view as to himself or herself, define a group of people as something that he or she feels that group themselves should not.

Holy crap that was great. You are a fantastic case study on projecting. You pride yourself on a faux education you think anyone is impressed by (which of course being fake means it doesn’t even exist) and nobody ever will be.

First off you’ve judged me as an American. I’m not one, hence the correct spelling in my posts you jack@ss. lol

Second, you ARE black. Don’t pretend otherwise. You’re bull$hitting is pathetic. Your little diatribe on race relations and the hysterical probing with questions you grabbed off your pedestrian interpretation of psychiatry (probably garnered from watched syndicated episodes of Frasier) is like watching a 9th grader educate the masses on…well anything. You’re a brain washed little tool and you’re very typical and easy to pick apart.

Third: You are uppity and self righteous. You prove it with every post. It’s right there! Read it yourself. You keep grasping for the higher ground but you can’t afford the ticket up there honey.

Fourth, I’ve dated black chicks. Know who their race mattered to? Them. Know who made comments to us on the street? Blacks. 100% all blacks and I didn’t give a ****. I just reminded myself that they were brought up in environments that didn’t teach positive race relations. It’s YOUR issue. And you shoot yourselves in the foot with it. I ended up dumping her because of her attitude problem. You’ve probably been there (assuming anyone has bothered to give your tender parts a tickle) and I’d wager it was a white man who tore your little heart in two. I’m guessing that because of how you post. You make it obvious. Race is very important to you…because YOU’RE A RACIST!

I can’t get over how pathetic those questions are. Let’s pretend you went to say…community college. What did you take? Medical assistant? lol Maybe you got part way through psych 101? Probably neither. I think my first guess was dead on. Good doctor Krane.

You’re not white. I think you wish you were because deep down you know that no matter how much self imposed segregation your people enact you’ll all never have anything close to the upper hand you so desperately want or the acceptance from the ruling class that gets farther away with each remix.

You would be very well served to see an actual professional shrink and have him or her analyze why you think racism is okay when it benefits a certain group. The answer will be that it’s not okay. And the people who will lose out most are you and yours.

Again…you lose. So shut up already. You’re embarrassing yourself.

All races are equal because its not a character defining trait. You can’t argue against that and you shouldn’t try. Racial integration is necessary and inevitable whether you like it or not. All your bull$**** and sub-par intellectual flailing won’t stop anything other than people from talking to you.

From the way it sounds you should apply all your blind criticisms over me onto yourself. You feel inferior and you think other people think you are too. You think it’s because of your race, but its because of you as a person. Maybe that’s why you think race is so important? You figure you’ve identified your own problem. You haven’t. You probably have quite a few of them but being born dark ain’t one of them.

Sincerely,

Stanley and his big fat white fu(king slab of manc0ck. :):):):):)

I think some of you are hating on Beyonce. Beyonce sings the hell out of that song and I’m sorry but I think the JHud version of I am telling you isn’t no where near as good as the original.

HowEmbarrasing @ 11/23/2006 at 12:25 am

Ok, now we’re getting somewhere. You answered a few of my questions but not all of them so let’s get back to them. I’ll reiterate them for you:

Can you tell me what YOU have done since you say that I “whine about everything and do nothing”?
Did your first love leave you for a black man or did you have a crush on a black woman who said, “I only date black guys”?
How was/is your relationship with your mother? How about your father? Was he present in your life?
Are you well adapted to interactions with the opposite sex on a daily basis?
Do you find yourself a bit self-conscious or do you consider yourself self-assured? Do you have many friends? Any ‘black’ friends?

Also:
Are you heterosexual?
Do you define being racist as someone believing that another race other than their own has the right to coexist in a peaceful way in which they feel comfortable?
Are your attempts to belittle me a game of which the goal is to get me upset in order to grasp a small bit of self-gratification and a momentary feeling that you’re not less than you are?
When you used the word ‘typical’ at the end of the paragraph where you referred to me as BLACK (yet again), did you mean that ‘as a black person’ I’m not uneducated?
Am I brainwashed because I can live and let live when it comes to blacks?
Am I being uppity by trying to understand where your anger comes from?

“You’re not white. I think you wish you were because deep down you know that no matter how much self imposed segregation your people enact you’ll all never have anything close to the upper hand you so desperately want or the acceptance from the ruling class that gets farther away with each remix.” Do you mean that you DO believe that white people are superior to blacks and because of that, they need to get with the program and try to be like white people because ‘being black’ will never get them anywhere and they will never be anything more than ‘blacks’?

And to clarify:
I did not refer to YOU as an AMERICAN. I spoke of AMERICA, the country.
I’m happily married and I’ve never had my heart broken so I’m not sure what you mean “you make it obvious”.
I love who I am which is not a color but a person who knows who she is, what she wants, and where I want to go in life. I wish you the same peace of mind (you desperately need it).
No one is saying anything about segregating races just because black people think of themselves as black people. I think you’re a bit behind on the times in that you think that integration is inevitable. It’s already here however some people, both black and white, would prefer it if some types of segregation still existed. I don’t agree with that but I’m sure they have their reasons and they would need to seek professional advice for their own issues. Race is of little importance to me but the question is why is it of such great importance to you is? You continually want to define me and define me as ‘black’. I’m confused since you haven’t said why it’s ok for you to define others as ‘black’ but it’s not ok for black people to define themselves as black? Do you consider ‘black’ a negative stigma that you don’t WANT them to accept the way they have? Do you feel that blacks have ‘forgotten their place’ as I have as a woman (or “chick” as you so lovingly named me)? It sounds like you want blacks to want to be white in order to feel like white people do continue to have the upper hand. As long as blacks are comfortable with being black you feel like we have one less thing to take from them, other wise you wouldn’t try so hard to label me and attempt to classify me in a group you so unmistakably consider to be substandard.

And in your trying to make the point of people referring to themselves as people and not ‘black’, you continue to disprove your ‘point’ by trying to define ME as black or white in your feeble attempts at insults. “You ARE black”… I thought that people were people.

In any rate, I’ll be away for the holiday but I’m looking forward to you next post.

Why are you trying to lead this? You’re not in control here, you’re trying to spin your lack of a defense of your racism into some stupid, and to be honest, laughable character analysis.

Do you like the view from up your own ass? Is that why you keep your head up there?

I never said you were intelligent. I know you probably think you are but a midget thinking he’s normal height don’t make it so fukface.

People are people. You’re a black person who has associated negativity with it by denying it. Shot yourself in the foot there didn’t you.

Race is not of little importance to you. It’s everything. Lie to yourself all you want but quit lying to me.

I don’t believe nor care about your pathetic reality.

Your questions are such so insanely stupid. It’s mind boggling. I hope for your sake that you’re not fat. At least if you’re half way attractive you’ll have that to hang on to because if you pride yourself on your intelligence you should probably think about ushering in your own end.

You levied negativity onto your own race by denying it.

You’re a moron.

Black people need to negate race from their processes. I can identify them as black in this instance because the commonality is their race. Understand? Probably not.

You should probably give up on this. You never had a leg to stand on anyway.

You a stupid woman who unfortunately for other black people is black.

Why are you telling me you’ll go somewhere for a long weekend?

Take your meds b!tch and fu(koff.

Laughing my ass off at Stanley. You are hilarious. I’m hoping you are not a racist because you seem like you might be some fun to be around. Why are you 2 arguing??? You both seem soooo intelligent and this debate seems below you two. Have you all learned anything? If not, the fight is not worth it and the point behind this has been lost.
Wow, based in what I’ve read here I see that racism will always prevail. It saddens me that my children will have to deal with this someday. Our family consists of Caucasians, Mexicans, African Americans, and Puertoricans and I wouldn’t trade our diversity for the world.
As for movies and their casts… Where were the African Americans in Lord of the Rings??? That was an amazing movie. The color of the cast can be a little dissapointing at first but what matters most is CONTENT!!!! I have seen some movies where I felt another person could have captured the true essence of the character but that is MY opinion. And of a Causcasian did have a role in Dreamgirls what would it be? I haven’t seen the movie so I couldn’t even begin to suggest a part. Has anyone seen it? Who is to say there ARE no whites in small roles????
Oh, and someone said that blacks play alot of gangstas and what nots in movies. Though this may be true. The best gangsta/mobster movies where played by Hispanics and Caucasians (i.e. Scarface and The Godfather)
Why so much tension??? There is so much beauty in each and every race. From shapes to colors, to body types and what each race brings to the table.
I love all people no matter what. After reading all the racist threads, I look forward to Heaven, a place where color is insignificant.
As for Be and Jen, they know what talents they possess and there is enough room for the both of them to shine!!!!
Hugs to all. How was Thanksgiving?

I THINK B WAS AMAZING SO ALL YOU DUMBASSES KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MUSIC EVIDENTLY AND SHOULD FIND OTHER PASTTIMES STOP HATING.

Usually very pretty, but the updo and red lips look not her best.

blackmoses @ 12/01/2006 at 5:35 am

ITS FUNNY HOW YOU PPL DONT WANT US TO INEDTIFY OURSELVES AS BLACK, BUT WHEN I APPLY FOR THE JOB YOU SEE BLACK, WHEN I APPLY FOR A LOAN YOU SEE BLACK, WHEN I MOVE INTO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD YOUU SEE BLACK, WHEN YOU HAVE TO LAY PEOPLE OFF FROM THE JOB YOU SEE BLACK & WHEN THE POLICE PULL ME OVER BECAUSE HE SEES ME IN AN EXPENSIVE CAR HE/SHE SEE’S BLACK. YOU CANT HAVE IT ALL. AS BOB MARLEY SAYS, “WE ARE WHAT WE ARE AND THATS THE WAY ITS GOING TO BE”

mochasweet @ 12/01/2006 at 10:09 am

The cast looked great Beyonce sang her song beautifully. Jennifer Hudson representing Chi-town just awesomely i cannot wait for the movie to show in theatres. I thought this was one of the best shows Oprah has had on in a long while.

man I love it like fo real doe.

Hi! I’m not an american but i have to say i’m a huge fan of black american singing abilities and certainly Dreamgirls showcases that more than ever. Oprah must be really proud since she herself a Supreme-wannabe! above all, i really hope that tomorrow’s OSCAR witness Jennifer or Eddie Murphy’s victories to make up for the non-including of Best Picture. Dreamgirls is amazing!
