Clooney books two crime projects for 2008

George Clooney has signed on to two high-profile projects with Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Independent Pictures.

First, Clooney is set to star in and produce “White Jazz,” an adaptation of a James Ellroy novel, for Warner Independent. He then will reteam with his “Ocean’s Eleven” producer Jerry Weintraub to direct the heist movie “Belmont Boys” for the parent studio. Both are set for 2008 starts.

“Jazz” is the last volume of what is known as Ellroy’s “L.A. quartet” of crime novels, which includes “L.A. Confidential,” “The Big Nowhere” and “The Black Dahlia.”

Clooney will play a corrupt police lieutenant assigned to a potentially explosive case for the Los Angeles Police Department during a time when the department is under investigation for corruption.

He will produce with his “Good Night, and Good Luck” producing partner Grant Heslov. The film will be directed by Joe Carnahan (”Narc”).

“Belmont Boys” is the name of a group of seven thieves who meet as railbirds at the racetrack in the old days and almost pull off the job of a lifetime. Now, 30 years later, they are thrown back together to finish what they started.

The film will take place in the U.S. and locations throughout Europe, with Clooney and Weintraub already in discussions with seven major actors for the lead roles.

Weintraub said the movie will not be an “Ocean’s” retread and that the actors will be much older, “though all big stars.”

Clooney’s calendar is all tied up through 2008. He is set to star in Joel and Ethan Coen’s upcoming film, “Burn After Reading,” for Focus Features after he directs and stars in “Leatherheads,” a football movie for Universal Pictures. Shooting for “Leatherheads” is to start in the spring.

He made his directorial debut in 2002 with “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” and earned an Oscar nomination this year for directing “Good Night, and Good Luck.” He won the Oscar this year for his supporting role in “Syriana.”

I agree with you 100%.It always hurts me the most when haters say that Angie is not moral/monagamous person. I know that there is not reasoning with them, but I don’t know where they get that thing from. She was never seen dating many people, hopping clubs, going from one relationship to another. For god sake, she married two of her three boyfriends! She said herself that she can count the number of men she slept with on her one hand! Is it because of the ” two lovers” she didn’t want to bring home to Maddox, or because she was open about so many things in her life? I don’t get it, and I probably won’t ever understand. Every person who ever worked with her or said anything abouth her, had only wonderful things to say.

The ironic thing to me is that in reality, Angie has always been much more monogamous than some of the so called “sweethearts”. What has hurt Angie perhaps is that she has been honest about some of her relationships, and the others and their PR machines, keep their escapades quiet.

I mean no offense to julia’s fans but.. put their dating and relationhip history side by side… Angie appears to me to be the more moral person.

This is another example of what Brad was saying once.. that people have the wrong impression about Angie.

Now, that you mentioned these actresses above, the difference between Angie and them is that she is not “romantic comedy”, “American sweethart” “girl next door” type, and this is what makes her special and different. Many times when I think of Angie and all the bad and wrong things people say about her, a quote by Albert Einstein comes to mind:

How could you have an open relationthip when you are NOT married? Anyway the two of them have been inseparable since Brad’s divorce to Jennifer. That’s so cute. I think they are very protective of their family and are wary as to who comes in to that inner circle. They are super tight in my opinion. They acan adopte 100 children from only 1 country if they want. All you need is one country that has children of different ethnicities.

OT Again a double standard at hand. Gayle King on The View talking about Oprah’s & her next visit to South Africa to interview children applying to her boarding school. Oprah has taped and will televise the interviews she did with thse girls. Now why do we need to see this? They are going to bring cameras to South Africa this Christmas to “document” everything. I’m sure she will let everyone see it on her show. Now personally I have no problems with this but the double standard is deafaning. Some people have claimed that Brad and Angelina should give “quietly” and not have cameras all over them or making “statements” about their donations. They are also criticized that they should adopt in the US (as if that makes any difference). Here you have Oprah, who has her own show for 20 years and constantly promoting her Angel Network and this leadership School. Where are the cries of “mediaho”? This leaderships school sounds fabulous but I don’t hear cries of ‘why didn’t she open a school here in the US for urban youth?”

resident adoption researcher now reporting for duty!

brad and angelina’s adoption options are limited by their lack of legal marital status. it’s a fact that i’m sure they’ve discussed. so far, in my own personal inquiries into international adoption, i’ve only run across vietnam and haiti as countries where they would be able to adopt with little hassle. they could basically follow the same procedure they did with zahara with angie adopting overseas and brad completing the process in the States. their biggest hurdle in having angie do the overseas process and brad doing the domestic, is the homestudy. it’s going to be pretty obvious that they share a home, a life and 3 other children together. brad’s presence would be difficult to dismiss as angie applies to adopt as a single parent. but since haiti and vietnam have no regulations for domestic partnership, it’s possible that the officials will overlookother countries are stricter and have marriage & domestic partner stipulations. even if they married today, they would have to wait at least 2 years before they would be eligible to adopt. some countries require that married couples be together for at least 5 years. there are also a few countries that allow adoptions for domestic partners but again, they have to prove a stable relationship with at least 5 years of “togetherness.”
