Cate Blanchett on Brad Pitt

“It was great to have Brad there, to have that buoyancy. Brad’s open and funny, and he makes me laugh. He makes me think about the style of a film in a way I hadn’t thought about it before. He asks questions about the script that I wouldn’t even conceive of asking. He’s a very aesthetic being, and I’m probably quite an emotional being. So for me, selfishly, he brings that out in me.” — Cate Blanchett on working with Brad Pitt on their film Babel

Tulula writes well and I enjoyed reading her post (and the discussion that followed), but the reasoning is somewhat flawed.

First, she has crystallized Angelina as the super single woman of the years 2002-04: formidable career, humanitarian extraordinaire, great mother, adventuress, free-thinking beauty, major force on her own. But people are not fossils, they cannot be frozen in time and Angelina – as we all - is a work in progress. And relationships are a great scalpel in the carving of one’s personality,

Then, Tulula postulates Angelina as having changed (the new Angie) when she became part of an absurdly high-profile couple. But Angelina is today all she was in 2002-04, even much more so.

The only difference is the union that is more than the sum of its two halves. Was there a loss of individuality? She seems to have chosen her partner too well for that… someone with whom she feels able to be herself, only more so. And that’s the secret of being happy together.

In every union there is obviously a loss of freedom, at least the freedom to be alone. Is this a loss that could make Angelina look back in nostalgia? Hmmm… she doesn’t seem the type to lose time over inevitabilities. And, like Brad, she seems to thrive in being responsible for those she captivates.

You people obviously can’t handle being chastised.

Unlike yourself?

Uh?

be reasonable would you leave for that? I am just now recognizing your name but if you are here I assumed you to be a fan. I did not notice everyone attacking you or the thread that you defended and I sis say that I understood what you were trying to say. Why label everyone on this site unjustly?

Please don’t let a simple “cyber-disagreement” turn you sour.

if you spent any time here you’d know we differ amongst ourselves. I’ve been correct more than a few times. I just don’t turn it into a confrontational exchange. I explain why I said what I said. If it seems like neither one of us are getting it, we agree to disagree, I’ve never been called names

see, that’s what i don’t get. angie’s changed, yes. but not that much. she’s shifted focus and that’s been awesome for her because it rooted out the destructive side of her that was overly fascinated with self and death. but it didn’t take away her fearlessness or her independence. she’s still getting tattooed. she’s still direct, swears and enjoys sex. she’s still travelling the world. still flying planes, etc. etc. she’s still living her life to the fullest on her terms. folks act like she’s become a stepford wife or worse. angie has said that she considers herself to be wilder now than she was before. i don’t get what people are lamenting. she’s still amazing and she still has her edge.

good afternoon, everybody!

i’ve been lurking all morning and reading the essays about “old angie” vs. “new angie” i think the most important question we all need to ask is “does angie miss the old angie?” “does brad miss the old brad?” and while these people have changed over time, have they really changed so drastically? angelina didn’t suddenly become this new person when she met brad. this has been a steady and sure evolution for her that’s taken years. the same for brad but his was stifled by questionable decisions that were difficult to extricate himself from.

regardless, the people they are today, together are wonderful people and happy with themselves and each other. i’m proud to be a fan of them both and i hope that no matter what their relationship becomes in the future, they’ll continue to be good people with good hearts doing things to help others.

^^

Popping in to say that “bottomline, end of the day ^^^ this is what I’m talking about.” That’s why you my girl gitane. ITA with ya.

evolution: noun “process of evolving..development of species from earlier forms.

evolve: develop gradually….grow, mature, progress, unfold.

Folks are forgeting that her time in Cambodia set her on another path, and the most important page/corner turner came after that, and in the form of the other man in her life, Maddox Chivan Jolie. Brad wasn’t there for either of those life changing experiences, and so those who argue he’s transformed her, or she’s been transformed because of him, OR, vice versa is false. They both were well on their respective way to who they are now, and of course as a team they influence each other, but they weren’t the catalyst for who they’ve become. They already were who they are now.

p.s….I have a feeling that if it was BBT, JLM, or even Colin? in her life, certain people wouldn’t be having an issue with AJ at all even if I can’t even imagine any of those dudes digging a well, visiting a shanty town, or babysitting while mama worked…….Those fans that want “old” Angelina’s don’t realize that for her to be who she use to be, she’d have to give up her babies.

I have to say this,

The last few weeks has been among the most peaceful this board has been, well, since I’ve been a member.I mean, we have had some disagreements over the last few weeks, like how friendly is Brad and George; the other night, there was some debate about Dreamgirls; and today, the issue with Tululu’s posts. It really didn’t get nasty. I’m proud of all of us. I

‘m thinking that the whole India controversy and the subsequent onslaught by haters helped put some things into perspective. I do think the haters are using different tacks, like trying to escalate conflicts between JJ and Pitt/ Jolie/ BAMZS fan boards. Personally, I don’t get that. I don’t see it necessary for anyone to join private fan boards just to get information. I do get that outside sources should be credited. Anyway, I hope that this vibe continues.

i had a pet crawfish once. named him sparky. that didn’t stop me from boiling and eating his friends…

Good afternnon, I found this at SJ about Barbara Walters special.

TV Guide confirmed it today and I’m pretty sure there is an interview…Barbara interviews everyone on the list…she doesn’t do a montage or have other people comment…lol

And anyway there was a story that Brad has already done a recent sit down with Barbara so I’m thinking they will be interviewed separately…
