Passing by here and are you kidding me about Oprah’s statement? My grandma talks like Oprah did all the time.
Examples:
“Girl, when I see that woman with that black man on her arm, I just wanna go ahead and grab him, he’s so fine”.
Or
“Girl, when I see Denzel Washington carrying around his little black kids, I just feel so good seeing a black man being such a positive role model”.
Umm, just go to any black household or black hair salon. People talk like this, folks. The way it is and it is all love!

Don’t get me started on 50 Cent. His comments are indicative of a specific contingent of the Black community who reaches for that epithet whenever someone doesn’t fall into line. It wasn’t the first time Oprah heard that slam; it won’t be the last. I’ve been called that too because I was good in school, both academically and behavior-wise, or when I hang out with my White friends and seem to truly enjoy their company and vice versa.

Think about that for a sec. Think about it, in all it’s conceited, arrogant patronizing condescending splendor…pair it with Michael Douglas’ “to go hold Angelina’s orphans,” comment, and they’re not that diff.

It would be interesting to see the video or hear the audio too since a lot of things/words have a different meaning when we see the expressions and tone associated with them.
My point was I doubt an aware black woman like Oprah who is a champion for black femininity would try to insult a little black girl.
Oprah has dedicated story after story on African girls’ genital mutilation, etc. I think she cares about little black girls quite deeply.
I disagree with you completely and wholeheartedly but is healthy to discuss such things. Your point is of course well taken.

I get what you’re saying, Clinique, but there are a queue of high-profile people ahead of Oprah who will have to answer to MZS, when they are adults. Unfortunately, most of these people will be dead, so there won’t be closure, assuming that these people and their comments will have a lasting impact on MZS. Brad, Angelina, and their families have an important responsibility, in terms of instilling strength, tolerance, and forgiveness within them.
I think it’ll serve those who are interested in the residual damage to children of scandalous figures to do some research; Isabella Rosselini would be an interesting subject, since her mother, Ingrid Bergman, got pregnant from an affair and had the baby before the divorce was finalized; this happened in the 50s. There were calls by members of the Senate or House to revoke her citizenship and numerous instances of nastiness hurled at her, in the name of moral grandstanding.
