Playing devil’s advocate… Iyana Vanzant (sp).

Before Dr. Phil, there was Iyana. She appeared on the show every few weeks, like Dr. Phil did before he got his show. Iyana was awesome and very down to earth. I think Iyana said that Oprah wanted to give her her own show, but Iyana had family issues that she couldn’t abandon for a talk show; I think she had to take care of a grandchild. Anyway, the last time I saw Iyana was on Starting Over, the second season and beyond.

Barbara Walters if i am not mistaken was the person that gave Iyana the show. I think she was the executive producer, I stand corrected if I am wrong. So what happened after she took care of family, was there a limitation statue when she could have helped her?

Ok, so a woman gives millions to a school for girls, she gives 1 million to Morehouse college, and she gives millions to AIDS research but what is everybody stuck on? Her use of the phrase “that little black child”.

I bet if she became Angelina Jolie’s best friend tomorrow, everyone would forgive her. I think it is insulting to condemn a woman who has dedicated her life to helping black people for some silly stuff like this. If we spent less time attacking Oprah and more time into improving our lives, maybe we can be half the woman that she is. What do you all know about what Oprah knows about racism? She had to sit on the back of the bus, for God’s sake. Her mother and grandmother were maids in rich white people’s homes. How dare people even SUGGEST she is being inappropriate toward her own race?

Sorry I am still reading and trying to catch up.

Let me take a shot at this because I think this is now going in a different direction. There is no doubt in my mind that Oprah is NOT a racist. The issue that I take with Oprah is that she has become a hypocrite. I used to absolutely adore Oprah and I still give her major props for her accomplishments. I started to pull away from being one of her adoring fans when her book club got big. Here you are stating how you were trying to help “your people” (I don’t like that saying because we are in fact –all of us– God’s people) but you don’t feature many good black authors. I get Maya Angelou, but I am part of many black author fan clubs and we discuss Oprah’s reluctance to help and uplift them all the time. gone are the days when every black woman got her daily uplifting from Oprah. Even black men knew the power Oprah had on their women and they understood and respected that. But as of late, Oprah no longer speaks with us in mind. She is going for the ratings and demographics and that is fine but don’t come off as THE VOICE of American black women. Just like Al and Jesse. You don’t speak for me and you stopped long ago. I have greater respect for Bill Cosby at this point. He may be pissing people off but he is still connected to the struggle. His words hurt some because of the truth within them.

On another note, when the news that CHIN and VV broke up, I told one of my friends and she said I thought they wrote up awhile back. It looks like no one cares and no one was surprised.

I have no idea who produced Starting Over, but I do remember watching an interview of Iyana and she admitted that an Oprah-produced show was coming down the pipeline; it didn’t happen because of her family crisis. I can’t say if Oprah and Iyana have a rift, although Dr. Phil seemed like a too quick and too convenient choice to become a protege, but I am just telling you what I remember about the Oprah/Iyana thing.

If anyone else knows about this, please enlighten us.

Is there some type of registration for this site? I did notice that my very first post made it through becase some commented on my TTFN but after that I began see “awaiting moderation” and now it seems as if I am talking to myself :lol:

Wesley Snipes Arrested on Tax Fraud Charges

Actor Wesley Snipes was arrested Friday in Florida on charges of tax fraud, Steve Cole, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tampa, Fla., tells PEOPLE.

Snipes, 44, had been filming a movie in Namibia despite the warrant for his arrest, which was issued in October. He is charged with fraudulently claiming nearly $12 million in tax refunds and failing to file returns from 1999 through 2004.

The actor flew into the Orlando International Airport and voluntarily surrendered, Cole said. He was due to appear in court at 10:30 a.m. on Ocala, Fla.

Snipes had been filming the movie Gallowwalker in Africa. In October, the film’s producer, Joanne Reay, told the Associated Press filming was scheduled to run until the third week of December.

If found guilty on the tax-fraud charges, Snipes could face up to 16 years in prison.

Alexandria - It was strange to me as well….UNTIL I remembered the MOVIE STUDIO he is heading. Will Smith, BANKABLE star; J.LO, somewhat bankable star with a LATIN cross-over; Chrsi Henchly (Brooke’s husband) on of the BEST writers in the industry right now. TC is many thing but DUMB ain’t one of them. And he is looking like a FAT GERBIL lately.

the fake Team Lara Croft brought up yet another much repeated lie about Brad that he has been emasculated. IMO, a man who takes on the responsibilities of a family and a commitment to worthy causes can hardly be considered emasculated. The way he was paraded around from one red carpet event to another as if he was a trophy that his wife had won in a Hollywood lotto. and the she thwarted any effort he attempted to be anything else is in my mind esmaculating.. he now has the opportunity to grow as a man.
