Shakira Supports ALAS

Shakira was on hand in Panama City on December 12th to help launch the ALAS Foundation (America Latina en Accion Solidaria - ”Latin America for Solidarity”).
The foundation is helping Latin Americans unite to fight various causes, mainly hunger and poverty, by putting on large humanitarian concerts to raise money and support.

Here’s the press release:

The ALAS Foundation (America Latina en Accion Solidaria - “Latin America for Solidarity”) will be launched on December 12, in the National Theater of Panama. The Foundation is based at the City of Knowledge in this Central American country.

With the goal of helping the neediest, artists, intellectuals, businessmen, international organizations and NGOs have gathered to form the ALAS Foundation, the largest cultural solidarity movement in the history of Latin America.

With the aim of replacing philanthropy with commitment and charity with solidarity, personalities from the world of culture such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Shakira, Alejandro Sanz, Miguel Bose, Diego Torres, Juanes, Babasonicos, Mana, Ruben Blades, Daniela Mercury and Danilo Pere have risen to the occasion, as well as outstanding individuals in the Latin American world, such as Carlos Slim, Emilio Azcarraga, Alejandro Santo Domingo, Alejandro Soberon, Joseph Safra, Roberto Kriete, Marinela Servitje, Stanley Motta, Alberto Bollmer, Jose Antonio Fernandez, Felipe Gonzalez, Oscar Arias, Sergio Renan and Jaime Baily. All of them have joined to fight hunger, poverty and marginalization.

On Tuesday, December 12, the National Theater of Panama will be the setting for the announcement of the various actions to be undertaken by the Foundation, examples of which are large humanitarian concerts at Latin American venues during the next year. Such events will raise funds for two of the key local programs, the ALA VIDA Plan (designed to fight poverty-related mortality) and the ALA ESCUELA Plan (designed to increase schooling and thus combat child labor).

I only made it 1:30 into the video. I tried! It’s not that I’m offended; it’s just that I was… grossed out. Ugliest man wearing a blonde wig I’ve ever seen. You’d think they could get the lip syncing down also. Muddy white rolls… eeww, I need to go wash my eyes.

Thanks for the info on Shakira’s foundation. However, that video was just wrong.

I don’t see what’s offending in that video. If the guy wants to make fun of himself, let it be…Why do people feel offended that easily?

I laughed!

ROTFLMFAO!!! I’ve seen this video before….it was worth watching again. Thanx JJ!

I really find it hard to believe that shakira cares about the poor kids especially after reading more about alas. i wonder how many kids have been helped out of poverty since this alas started its work. many celebrities start foundations just to make themselves more popular and likable and make more money. shakira just seems so totally fake. i just don’t believe she cares about anyone other than herself and how she looks. someone i know overheard her talking on a plane and she told me she seemed to me so fake and into herself.
