The sorority girl who excitedly e-mailed a couple dozen of her bestest pals about the night she supposedly spent playing snuggle-bunnies with a Jennifer Aniston-less Vince Vaughn in Budapest late last month is waggling her finger at our celebrity-obsessed culture.

“In the last few weeks, my world has become a whirlwind of reporters, publicists, cruel Web sites and harassment from people who feel my business is theirs, and words of sympathy from those I love,” the pity party-tossing Texas co-ed writes in an open letter (via the San Antonio Express-News). “What happened to me … was unfortunate, yes, but I am certainly not alone. Every day in the media, people are criticized, demeaned, and laughed at without rationale. We take pleasure in hating celebrities and public figures for no apparent reason …”

While the 20-year-old concedes that squealing details of her brief encounter with the baggy-eyed funnyman (”We didn’t have sex, but it was just as good :) …”) in an easily forwarded e-mail might not have been the wisest idea, she’s still smarting from the harsh lesson she’s learned about pop culture’s standing in society.

“There are more Web sites and magazine articles dedicated to hating and gossiping about Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton than to informing young people about the crisis in Sudan, or the conflicts in Lebanon,” writes the fuming student.

Not only that, but “we follow Britney’s first nights out without Kevin more closely than we follow America’s first female Speaker of the House. Is this really where we want the priorities of our culture to lie?”
