Angelina Jolie’s In-Depth Interview

As I’m looking at you from the side, you and Brad could be brother and sister. Well, thank God we’re not (laughter).

Do you think your relationship is based on the fact that you are alike? You know, it’s funny. When we first came together, everybody commented on how different we were. So now it’s funny to hear somebody comment on how similar we are. Oh my God, I think you’ve scared me into thinking we’re starting to be that couple that morphs (starts looking like each other). We are very different in many ways — certainly in the way he is at home and the way I am at home. But we balance each other quite well.

We haven’t talked to you in almost two years. Can you recap the high points in your personal journey in the last couple of years? The high points are the obvious. My coming together with Brad; Brad and Maddox coming together; and Zahara coming into our family. The low or scarier point was when Zahara got sick. Her surviving that was a high point. My having a baby (Shiloh) and now her personality is coming out—it’s fun. It’s great to see all three kids together.
On a professional level, this film was wonderful to work on. That I’ll be working a lot less and spending a lot more time at home was a welcome decision at the end of the day.
And you have been going on these missions for the UN. I’ve been working for the UN for five years now. I have been involved with projects in Cambodia for four years. I’m still pushing for different bills in Washington and they haven’t gone through. We have a new Congress. Maybe they will (pass those bills).
I’m trying to educate myself more to be able to handle discussions on issues better and not just be emotional about them. I would try to actually deal with them on a stronger level and make some changes.

We are very different in many ways — certainly in the way he is at home and the way I am at home. But we balance each other quite well.
Can you give an example of how different you are? He’s very methodical and takes time with things. I’m very impulsive like on a decision we made yesterday. But (when we travel), he packs at the last minute while I pack three days ahead with all the kids’ stuff and five different things. I like to organize each moment of our travel but he likes to be more (spontaneous). But we appreciate each other. We need it. I need to be not so crazy about things.
How are you going to spend the holidays? We’re going somewhere this Christmas. We’ll spend the morning with our children, have a wonderful time with them and make it special for them and not forget that. We’re going to spend the day with some other people, bring them some things, listen and talk to them. I want to teach my kids that it’s not about what they’re going to get but it’s about who they’re going to think of, what they’re going to do, what they’re going to learn and who they are going to extend kindness to. The season is a good excuse to teach our children something really nice.
Spiritually, are Brad and you on the same page? Yes, I would say that. We’re not of any one faith ourselves but we are teaching the children about different faiths. We believe (in teaching them about) that. We believe that you should understand and learn about all the different faiths. Then teach your children and see where they fall and celebrate many different things. I suppose that is a unique thing to be very much in agreement on.
Do you have any respite from the paparazzi at all? We were just recently in our home in Cambodia and nobody was there. So there are ways and there are places (where there are no paparazzi). We also went to Brad’s parents’ house for about five days. That was lovely and quiet. Hopefully in the years to come, maybe if we work less, we’ll have more of a quiet life. Then our kids will have a more normal life. We just try not to let it (the paparazzi issue) affect us. It only does when we want the kids to have more freedom but other than that, we try to ignore it. There are worse problems so we’re OK.
Would you like to get married again? I have had two beautiful marriages (first to British actor Johnny Lee Miller and then to American actor Billy Bob Thornton) in my life. I don’t feel a need to get married at all at this moment. But I am committed to another person (Brad) and three children. I think that’s the most important. For people who want to be married, it’s a beautiful thing. It’s a wonderful thing and I’m all for it.
How much do you enjoy flying your own plane? I love it. It certainly gives me a freedom that I don’t have on the ground. Flying is a real skill. I know that sounds odd but I have spent my whole life with a job that is kind of odd. I interpret behavior, tell stories and I emote—those are not practical skills. So it was really wonderful for me as a woman and as a person to go back to school, take tests, study and learn a proper physical skill I can expand on. Hopefully one day, I would be able to give service as a pilot.
How often do you fly? I flew until I was about six and a half months pregnant. And then I wasn’t allowed to fly anymore. I flew about two months after Shiloh was born. I fly whenever I can. I haven’t been able to fly recently but probably I’ll fly in January and February.
Which of your movies made the most impact on you personally? I think everything does one way or the other. The funniest and probably the truest example is “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” because it was about other countries. It was about being physically strong, fit and focused. So it got me healthy and let me travel to Cambodia. Cambodia changed my life. The next film let me travel to Africa. So in working with local people, you learn about these countries not just as a tourist. But I would say that Cambodia was the most significant one. Learning about land mines and refugees and the history of a country I knew very little about changed me and made me start to question. That was really the beginning of me questioning things.
Has being famous hindered or blocked your desire to help in many countries? It has been the best use of my celebrity. When I was younger, I didn’t know quite what to do with my celebrity status. You don’t really do interviews to talk about other topics. You haven’t come to many conclusions. You don’t have a lot to say. So to find a purpose in my life really helped me. I wake up and I don’t think about meaningless little things that I am worried about for myself. I’m able to focus outward and that is just a healthier way to live. Certainly the position I’m in has made it very easy for me to be able to meet with officials, get briefings and do things quicker. That’s an even exchange. The negative side of it is your credibility is questioned. A lot of people are out to make a very silly story when you’re trying to focus on something else or question why you do things. That’s to be expected.
Is it more difficult to be a mother of a boy or of girls? I don’t know. They’re very different. My boy was my first baby so that was hard. Perhaps when they’re teenagers, I’d say it’s harder to be a mother of a girl or I’d be more nervous about the girls going on dates than about the boy. That’s when it comes back at us. They’re interesting, crazy and wild in their own ways.
My son is very close to me. I don’t know if that’s because we were alone for a long time. I can see a little bit of a difference between a mother and son and between a daddy and his girls. It’s quite interesting. On giving birth to a child or adopting a child, I honestly did expect that there would be a different feeling. I was very concerned that there would be and I prepared for that. There was absolutely none. Other than sometimes I look at Shiloh and I see Brad—that’s sweet—I don’t feel any differently. That was a wonderful surprise. I was so happy to have Shiloh in Africa, that we could do that and for her to have a Namibian passport. She has that connection to another country and to her sister’s part of the world. I think that ties them together a little.
It must be easier now to have somebody around to help with the kids. It’s easier to be with somebody. But it’s better to be single if you’re with the wrong person (laughter). There were so many times with Mad when he was growing up that I’d be up in the middle of the night, exhausted, rocking him. Nobody was there—except for friends—who saw me exhausted, who appreciated my efforts. Nobody was there whom I could look at or explode in excitement with when Mad said his first word. That was a bit sad. It made me very close to Mad but there’s the joy now of waking up in the middle of the night, like last night, and looking at the other exhausted parent, sharing the burden and learning, smiling about a child’s new tooth and just enjoying children. As a woman, having a partner who appreciates you as a mom, who remembers your history with your children is special.
Even though I had Maddox, I didn’t have a family somehow. I have a very small family myself. Brad has a wonderful way—he really does invest in our daily life together. He makes the most of every single moment whereas I tend to move very quickly through things. So he slowed me down to really enjoy this time. That’s probably the greatest gift and what I love about him. I think I expected a lot of things when I met him. I didn’t know anything about him as a man except what you all write (laughing). I found a really kind, funny, down-to-earth man. Just a wonderful man that you usually expect in a different package. He is who he is in the world but at home he is a really wonderful friend and father.
Can you talk some more about how Brad has taught you to slow down and enjoy life? If I want to go on some trip because I want to have an adventure, explore and learn something, he’ll make sure that we have enough days to just be with our kids or we do something special with the family. He reminds me that it’s OK to take a deep breath, sit down, enjoy life, not race through it and let it go past you. He’s been very good for me in that aspect.
After the controversy of Madonna adopting a child, the cynical reaction from media was that some celebrities are “buying” babies. Did that hurt the chances of some babies being adopted? I hope not. I hope people are smart enough to understand that it was a very specific situation of a country that didn’t have foreign adoption (policy). So it’s a very specific legal situation. I hope everybody wishes the best for that little boy and his new life. Again, it’s the negative and positive media. It’s good for media to question whether there’s something at play that you need to understand or may not be right. Then there are people who decide to run stories in the most negative way possible just to sell magazines.
I was working in India and I didn’t go out of my way to study everything about it (Madonna’s adoption of a boy issue). I don’t know a lot about that country (Malawi). I have not been there. I have gotten lists of counties to adopt from and that country has never been on those lists. I believe that anybody who adopts a child has that commitment to that child for the rest of his life. There’s got to be some love in that situation. I don’t think it’s fair to just look at it in a negative way. We have to hope that’s the best for that little boy.
You grew up in a show business environment. Do you think your children will follow the same path? Strangely enough, because I didn’t live with my father (actor John Voight), I didn’t go to a bunch of film sets and things like that. But I did grow up in Hollywood and somewhat around that. What I am trying to give to my children—and it’s the one thing I didn’t have—is at least half a year, if not more, in a foreign country. On occasion, they’ve been on film sets. They’re around this stuff every once in a while but they really spend the majority of their lives not around this (Hollywood). I am trying to give them balance, like with Mad, he came to work with me in India and he played with the local kids. He hung out at the local places and he didn’t live a Hollywood life during that time.
It was the same case when we were in Africa. I am glad I can bring Mad to these foreign countries and he’s not looking for a Nintendo and a hotel room. He’s happy to go to some neighbor’s house that’s very modest and just play outside with rocks. So I hope with that balance, I’ll instill in the children something that’s more than just wanting to be in this business. But if they want to, God help us, we will let them (laughter).
Where is home for you? We don’t actually know. We have a lot of our stuff in Los Angeles but we’re looking for a home outside of that. We just went back to Cambodia which I consider home.
How was your experience working with Robert De Niro as director? On the set, Bob was so great to work with. When I first met him, somebody said to me, “Look, he doesn’t like to talk a lot. He’ll probably talk to you for five minutes.” We talked for almost two hours because we ended up talking about world affairs. He’s not a casual person.
Please comment on—first, how you look different in this movie because of your blonde hair. And second, how everybody talks about your beauty. (On the first question), that certainly makes me feel good. I have always seen myself as different looking. In “The Good Shepherd,” I had to go quite WASP-y whereas I am more ethnic looking. It’s easier for me to go darker than lighter and my character was quite light. (On the second question), I have gotten used to myself, my face. I don’t think of myself one way or another—kind of beautiful or ugly. I look like my mom and so that’s nice to me (laughing).
In portraying a woman, wife and mother from the 1930s and 1940s, what are some of the differences from your own experience living today? Many things. It wasn’t just the 30s and through. On top of it, she’s married to the CIA. She’s unable to express her independence. That was probably the hardest thing. She could not even have an improvised fight. How far could I (her character) take an aggressive attack or an insult? I always had to stay in my place and there wasn’t anywhere to go.
It was not possible (for my character) to say, “I’m leaving,” “I want a divorce,” “I want this” or “I want this for my child.” It was very claustrophobic in that marriage. It was very hard for me as an actress to do that, to make myself less opinionated, powerful and strong. On a funnier note, I was sent to manners classes—for lessons on how to hold a cup of tea, to cross my legs the right way and to tilt my head a little and listen. It was funny that the natural way we hold ourselves today as women is not as gracious and elegant as the women of that time.
That element of the film was lost on my character who was just drinking and ignoring it. But in my life, that element is there, even when it’s just going out with the kids or where I go. Or plans for the holidays or even trying to figure out anything really. When I was pregnant and I just wanted to go to my doctor’s appointments, I had to try to find some way to get there without people following me. All that felt very uncomfortable, to be honest. But it’s just a part of this business.
What do you think is the message of this film? To be honest, I’ve not seen the film yet so I don’t know which pieces were taken out or put in and how exactly it was told. I know that Bob’s intention was—and he probably says it better—not to give a specific, this-is-what-you-should-be-questioning element or feeling. Bob’s aim was to show people and situations. It’s up to the moviegoers to read into them.
My personal feeling on the political nature of the film is, it is always important to question your government and what it is doing, not just blindly trusting that it’s going to make the right decisions, and if it’s being moral or not. I think now is no exception. This is a time when we must be questioning, as we all are, the decisions of our current administration regarding foreign policy and so forth.
Will you and Brad do a sequel of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” or perhaps another movie? There was talk at one point about another one of those but it would just be too weird since it would be so much our life (laughter). It would be like a home documentary. They said, “No, we’ll make another one and you’ll have children” and we thought, “Oh, good” (laughter). We’d love to work together on something but it’s tricky when you’re a couple and the world knows it. The movie should be a comedy. It’s easier for people who are in a relationship to have fun with each other, take shots at each other, than take each other seriously. Nothing has come across us yet, though.
With your career, family and UN work, how do you juggle all of them? Brad says I’m obsessive with schedule (laughing). I’m very fortunate to have him in my life. He’s a great father—really dedicated. We take turns working and we both love being with our kids. It’s a decision we made so it’s something we’ve wanted to do.
You must get exhausted from all your commitments. I love everything that I do. I love to work for the UN and in film. I relax with Brad and my kids. We do get exhausted like normal parents but we love it. If we plan to have a very large family, we shouldn’t stretch it out over the next 10 years or else we’ll be raising kids forever. So we’ve thought about it. I am sure we won’t wait forever to build our family.
So will you adopt again sooner than later? I think so, yeah.
In “Alexander” and “The Good Shepherd,” you played older women. How do you feel about aging? I’m looking very much forward to growing older. I want to be an exhausted older woman but with a very full life behind me and one still going. As an actress, they tell you things like don’t look this way or don’t age. Somebody even gave me advice not to play older women. To me, it has always been about the story and the character. Clover, my character in “The Good Shepherd,” was such an interesting woman. I loved the challenge of how she broke down and aged. Personally, I like to see age on faces.

This is a very beautiful woman indeed and a very nice interview also. I am glad they spent some time with Brad’s parents, it is obvious she calls the shots and Brad goes along with it so at least he got to be with his family some. I also think it was lies from the Media made up that his mother didn’t like her, I think they are all probably quite fond of her, she is a very controlling person but Brad knew that going into the relationship, all in all, this is a close knit loving family. I hope that Brad has a little more backbone in the future but he seems extremely happy with her.

Thanks Just Jared. The interview was very informative. AJ is a straightforward Woman. BP and AJ seem to have found love, laughter and support in each other. I love all the backhanded compliments some people post. It would probably be less stressful and truthful to admit that they are fascinated by this family and rush to Just Jared to read every article, comments, and examine each picture. BP is his own man. He is taking care of his woman and family. I think AJ knows that he is a “great” man and appreciates him to the utmost. Thanks for all the articles, videos and links. After reading the replies on that site, I cannot believe how gullible people are and I’m so glad that Angie is the way she is. I think she learned earlier on in life that she had to put away people’s opinion of her on the backburner if she wanted to accomplish the things she liked. Because if she allowed people’s opinion of her to dictate the way she leads her life, she would be totally miserable. She is a unique individual and one in a million. Look at me, I get mad and my blood pressure goes up when I read negative comments about her, but that’s something that she’s learned to not affect her and I can only applaud her for it.

Why is photographer waving red flag before Brad Pitt’s eyes?

BRAD Pitt, who is the rising movie production wunderkind in Hollywood, didn’t like his Robert Wilson photograph that graced the December cover of Vanity Fair. (In it, Pitt was shown wet in his underwear. This does make me wonder - why did he pose in this fashion in the first place?)
So I guess Brad won’t like the invitation for a Jan. 16 party of the photographer’s art installation in New York City. That show will feature pictures of Mikhail Baryshnikov, Alan Cumming, Winona Ryder and Princess Caroline. Wilson is making hay from Brad-all-wet. The invite reads: “Brad Pitt plus Save the Date” and the Pitt picture is included at the bottom of the e-mail as well. I ask you, is this any way to treat a movie tycoon and businessman? Did Louis B. Mayer or Sam Goldwyn ever appear wet in their underwear?
Hotsop IS Arlene Keil. UGLY is her favorite word, perhaps it’s because until she was 5yrs old, she thought it was her first name.

Robert Wilson sure played along innocently that he ‘no idea’ Brad would be mad about Vanity Fair using his picture for the cover without his permission. Just another coat tail grabber. I think Brad’s pretty used to it by now. He’s got the money, the fame, the looks, the successful career…..of course people will try to grab on to his coat tails and try to get a piece of the pie. Of course it doesn’t make it right, but it’s going to happen nonetheless.
Oh, please I was just saying that he looks nothing like his parents. And that’s is the truth. And I don’t think his parents and his sister are good looking at all.

I spent a couple of hours today listening to the tributes to President Gerald Ford. I couldn’t help but make the connection between Betty Ford and the character Clover in TGS. Betty Ford was a pretty woman but she had no significance except as his wife. President Ford in climbing the ladder of success was a good man but he left the job of raising the children to her and she very lonely turned to alcohol. There is, of course, a lot that is dissimilar…and a lot in the tributes that is malarky but the gentleman is dead and deserves his day of adulation.
I worked in the Watergate on that 1972 campaign. The sixth floor was where the breakin occurred and I worked on the 13th floor. The 13th floor had not been finished and it was cheap space for the campaign to rent. There was nothing finished, wires taped down on the floor, no such thing as computers, just black dial telephones and typewriters clacking away. We were just not able to convince the public that Richard Nixon was not the man for the Presidency. Took two more years for the country to find it out…and Gerald Ford God Rest His Soul took over.

Thanks GM. So smart of you to make that connection. I haven’t seen the movie but I still have become so familier with the characters and I’ve a hard time trying to get a clearer pic of Clover Wilson exactly for the reasons Angelina said. I’m not that woman, but nor was my mother, or her mother. You say Betty Ford, but I also would like to add Pat Nixon (I always heard she not only drank, but Nixon was said to get physical with her too), to a lesser degree Mamie Eisenhower, and even Jacqueline Kennedy.

Speaking of President Gerald Ford, here is something I was completely ignorant to. I had know idea there were 2 attempts on his life. I found the following at hollywood-elsewhere.com
Oliver “Bill” Sipple, a paunchy former Marine and high school football star, aged 33, was walking past San Francisco’s St. Francis Hotel on September 22, 1975, when President Ford emerged. Just three weeks before in Sacramento, Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, a deranged acolyte of the murderous cult leader Charles Manson, had got within a few yards of the President with a loaded gun. She had failed to get a shot off, but now the Secret Service was watching a small crowd of protesters across the street.
Sipple moved toward the front of the crowd to see his president. He saw him all right-as well as a gray-haired woman by his side, pulling a revolver out of her blue raincoat. Sipple grabbed her arm. Her shot missed the President by a few feet. Sipple wrestled her to the ground, and prevented her from getting off a second shot by shoving his hand into the firing mechanism.
Sipple shunned publicity. He was gay and he had never told his straitlaced Baptist mother. But Harvey Milk knew. “That guy saved the President’s life. It shows that we do good things, not just all that ca-ca about molesting children and hanging out in bathrooms.” It was Milk, according to the respected journalist Randy Shilts, in his biography The Mayor of Castro Street, who outed Sipple by an item dropped in Herb Caen’s gossip column. A despairing Sipple told reporters: “I want you to know that my mother told me today she can’t walk out of her front door because of the press stories.” He insisted: “My sexual orientation has nothing to do with saving the President’s life.” Apparently President Ford thought it did. Pat Nixon smoked and drank and had to play that proper wife all the time. She used to shop for the material to make the girls clothes. Nixon was very close to Bebe Roboza and used to walk along the beach in Miami holding hands with Bebe. I don’t know that it was anything but friendship but I am sure Pat saw that. Of course if you listen to the Watergate tapes, you know what a foul mouth he had. He really was ruthless. Today they were talking about Nixon’s dark side without really spelling out what that meant.
Jacqueline Kennedy was also one that had to hid what really went on in her life. She too smoked and drank but then she would get on TV with that soft wispy voice that sounded so vulnerable. She did have a career before she married which really made her attitude much different than Pat Nixon.
I understood why DeNiro gave Angie so little screen time. It showed so perfectly how insignificant woman were in that point in time. She married, she raised the kids, she lauded his career, she showed up at the functions he needed her at to show he was straight, a family man. The rest of the time he did what he wanted.
I got a viseral reaction to the character of Matt Damon. And boy did he play that character well.

Looking at photos of the Nixon’s, I can’t even imagine how they got children let alone Nixon holding hands with anyone! And her sewing?! She just has always appeared just sad and icy. I’ve heard that Joan Allen really captures her in the movie NIXON, and so I guess I may have to rent that one soon. He/they just have never failed to give off an aura of shear unhappiness, individually, and as a cople. Ironically, the one person who I’ve ever heard speak of RN with even a speck of empathy, or affection I should say, was the Rev Billy Grahm.
Jackie O always knew, but I still believe she would have stayed married and continued to turn her face away if JFK hadn’t died. Not that it would have made much of a difference to not divorce, I also believe Joan Kennedy (a sad/pitiful story) would have remained simply out of pressure.

This interview is one of the best ever that I have read for a long, long time. Showed the interviewer to be a true journalist. He asked significant questions and Angie seemed to appreciate the questions. She gave thoughful answers that really gave us an insight into how she and Brad must have felt during those turbulent times in their life. Is the journalist male or female? What do we know about him or her?

The last time I heard/read about her I almost cried. She was like found the street after she’d fallen down, and if I remember correctly, thats when her children had no choice but to seek full control and place her in a hosptal. She was a beautiful woman the pictures I’ve seen, but I think that was a hard family to be a part of if you weren’t as competitive, and wounded easily.
Maybe one day Bob DeNiro will discuss his composite for Clover. He didn’t just pull her from the air lol.

I thought about the character Margaret/Clover when Betty Ford’s name was mentioned. I won’t provide spoilers for those who did not see the movie, but Angelina gave a Lisa (Girl Interrupted) moment in the TGS and I laughed out loud. I loved this movie and will see again this week.

Now just what home are you referring to since Brad, Angelina, and their three kids live in what was Brad’s house (well it’s actually a compound now that Brad has bought up the other houses located adjacent to the original house owned by Brad and Brad only in LA)? Let’s see, this family has homes in LA, Malibu, Santa Barbara, and Cambodia (Angelina’s own words “we were just recently in our home in Cambodia”).
Which of these homes did you see demolished, when, and in what manner? Are you by chance in the demolition business and trolling for new customers? I think the Jolie-Pitts will need all the homes they have as their family continues to grow.

Grandma, you rock! I’ve been thinking of Watergate a lot myself since the news hit. Say what you will about the repugs back then, at least they MADE Nixon stand down - and HE looks reasonable today! How did we not learn any lessons? Well, at least as women we did….I think Joan Kennedy is a really good springboard for Clover. She WAS indeed quite pretty - thought it’s hard to tell what one looks like when alcohol takes over. So very sad. And Betty Ford was her own salvation. At an age when most take it easier, she started the clinics and spoke out about adiction and later (or was it before? time moves so fast) about breast cancer. I remember thinking that SHE actually made a longer impression on the country than HE did.

What I love about this interview and the Vogue one is Angelina actually informed Brad that she was going to be open and honest during this press tour. I remember watching old interviews of him and the reporter would bring something up and his reaction would be like “Really…she told you that?” He would be kind of annoyed. But now, he’s not going to have that problem :) Even though she was open it wasn’t as Michael Scott would say “TMI!”

Off-topic: As I was looking at my x-mas tree today I remembered the time when my friend Bill came to school dressed up as Jesus. He went all out, beard, bible and everything else. Although it wasn’t Halloween and it wasn’t near Christmas or Easter for that matter.
Anyway, I remember that day fondly because we had lunch and two classes together. Whenever I looked at him I couldn’t help but smile because only he would wakeup and decide to dress up like Jesus for no reason. He read from the bible, hugged those who asked, gave advice, hung out with the gays…a day’s work.
Looking back though, I had no idea how he got away with it because we went to a public high school yet no one, not even a teacher told him it was inappropriate. In fact, the only person that got upset was some snotty little freshman girl at lunch. She tried to tell her boyfriend to beat him up. I have great hearing so I heard his reaction…”What? Are you kidding? Calm down.. No, I’m not gonna beat up Jesus!” :lol: Those were the days….
That was amazing Preggy! The shots and vid you selected were so poignant and beautiful - you could just feel the love emanating. I hope B&A know just how much they’re admired and supported by their fans. Beautiful vid.

Heck, he wrote better than a lot of these other interviewers, and English is not even his first language!!!! He was able to give us an intimate insight into the daily life of the Jolie-Pitts with his interesting questions which Angie answered so honestly.
I agree Carla. Angelina never speaks ill of anyone. Not even her father, even though that has been a very strained relationship throughout her life and it’s a non existent one now. She doesn’t rake him over the coals or air their laundry other than to say, they don’t have a relationship and the reasons are private.
The fact that Angelina dared to speak about her life, like she doens’t have that right, people find fault with. Yet, they don’t find fault that everyone else has a right to comment on her life, nope, that’s all fair game. When Angelina or Brad do it, how dare they.

I saw the movie and loved it. Yes, I think Wilson loved the other woman. He would have married her instead if Clover was not pregnant. Clover came on too strong for him. She kind off force him into saying “I love you, ” . He also said it in the movie which I thought was powerful, ” I married you bc of him.” remember that line… people in the theater was stunned. Wilson character did not care for looks… he also slept with the other woman which I thought looked older then him. I did not think looks or class matters to Wilson.

Dina - I haven’t seen TGS yet. There were some folks around on Saturday who’d seen it and wanted to discuss it but didn’t want to spoil it for those who hadn’t. We all just thought it was stupid that the movie couldn’t be discussed if people wanted to.
Having said that - it’s been said in many reviews that the deaf girl was supposed to be his first love. I haven’t seen, so I can’t say whether it came off as believable in the movie or not.

Maybe now it’d be a conflict of interest but I don’t think so. Isn’t the “club” exclusive to the white, pros. rich male population in the beginning anyways? (i think robert di Nero character said something like having very few catholics) where would they get recruites if not from their own families, the few “right” kind of families.
like said, i don’t think it’d be a conflict of interest now even. i think it’d be the same as having sons and fathers on the same police force. as long as they are capable and willing, there’s really nothing there to stop them from being on the same force….
i am just having a hard time imagining that noodle in the CIA though. i shocked that he got in Skulls and Bones :)

TGS Spoiler Alert. Passing Through, do you think Wilson loved sthe other woman? Do you think he would have married her. I don’t either would have happened. She wasn’t in his class, WASP. Plus she had a defect. What do you think?
I know this question was posed for PT, however, I wanted to give my little 2 cents as I’ve also wondered about this. I feel that if he did get engaged, or married to her, it would not have lasted. For all the reasons that you state, making her unable to handle the pressure of the life that would be expected of her, as compared to Clover, who grew up in that type of lifestyle, yet still could not cope without resorting to some solace in alcohol. However, I do think that Clover might have stayed with her husband, as she was reared in this way, if not for those picx.

I Have Learned:
On a positive note I’ve learned that no matter what happens,

I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn. I’ve learned that you should pass this on to someone you care about. I just did. Sometimes they just need a little something to make them smile. What Is A Father?

Yay and boo! I can’t believe they lumped George Clooney in with the biggest heart of the year. Dude really lays it on thick with the concerned citizen shtichk. I see a sincerety in Angelina’s work that I don’t see in George. He seems to move around with the wheelers and dealers and newsmakers. Yeah he’s doing good but he’s been barely doing it for a year and already he’s an expert? uggghh. Something about him strikes me as fake and attention seeking. Brad gets with Angelina and gives more attention to Africa, then George pays attention to Africa. Brad goes to New Orleans to help the rebuilding effort, then George shows up to help. He’s taken his man crush on Brad too far. He needs to find his own niche of helping out.
I think alot of celebrities saw Angelina and Bono get attention for their efforts in Africa and then they jumped on the bandwagon for some attention. Too many celebs hopped on and now it takes away from the sincerety of those who are really trying to help. Please don’t tell me about George’s dad and his efforts. I respect Nick Clooney but George is another story. That man always appears to be crying out for attention. Bono, Angelina, Oprah (even tho I don’t like her sometimes), Ashley Judd, and Renee Zellweger come across as sincere. George does not. And didn’t Clooney date Renee? Funny how he didn’t get interested in Africa then while he was with her and now when it’s seen as the chic thing to do, he’s all over it. He’s as fickle with his humanatarian routine as he is in his relationships. That’s what bothers me the most. The man is ficle about his actions. As soon the helping out in Africa and New Orleans thing becomes old (as superficial as that sounds), he’ll jump on another bandwagon. And if he doesn’t, I’ll remember to come back in six months to a year from now and say sorry. But he’s so predictable that you know he’ll move onto the next hip thing to do.
oh yeah….I hope that book about Angie is not full of cr@p. I hate when they take all the lies and turn them into so called facts. Hopefully, it’s a honest and truthfull look at her, and not the way she’s percieved by the media or that it doesn’t depict her just a “sex symbol” and nothing more.

Tomorrow Is Not Promised

It has been a while since my last visit here and i am extremely sorry for and ashamed of my tardiness. The reason im on 2nite is because i am in Ohio, once again, and am having a blast! New year’s just around the corner and i want 2 wish everyone a happy and healthy new year! Especially Brad, Angelina, Maddox, Zahara and Shiloh Jolie-pitt!

Grandma, OJPF etc love your posts about clover and betty ford, pat nixon, or Joan kennedy etc. But in the case of clover, due to the secrecy required, it perhaps wasn’t possible for Clover to participate in the life of her husband. In the case of being married to a senator or a congress man or a politician, there are women who are able to participate and support their husbands and others who can’t. The interesting question is why some women were driven to drink or self destruct, as a rebellion or escape against their husbands, rather then be their husbands helpmate as others seem to achieve.
Perhaps I’m naive but here’s what I think. You marry a man who have certain qualities, qualities that probably attracted you to him in the first place. As time unfolds, these strengths reveal their flip side as weaknesses which drive you crazy. You can either focus on these qualities as weaknesses or somehow manage them and focus on their strengths.
May be Pat Nixon could not leave her husband because Richard Nixon might have been pathological. But Joan Kennedy could have left her husband a long time ago rather then choose to self destruct but stay, married to a Kennedy. I must admit, I can’t summon to much sympathy for Joan Kennedy. Al Gore’s wife, Tipper, was in no way as ambitious as Hilary Clinton, but still she managed to be a great support to him and had the opportunity to advance her pet projects.

I agree with this statement. Even after what Bill did and all the allegations of affairs and such, whenever I see them with each other, I think there is feeling of mutual love and respect between them. And they have raised a great daughter together. Their love for each other might have changed form and taken a new form but I think it’s still there, even after what Bill did. People say that Hillary only stayed with Bill for her own political ambition because they can’t understand why a woman would stay married to a man who betrayed his wife so many times. I think even Hillary must have gone through moments of wanting to give up but in the end she decided to work through their issues in their marriage and stay together. I’ve found that many spouses forgive each other for their infidelity and still stay together. It kind of resonates with what Angelina said in her interviews about Clover. Today, if a woman is unhappy in her marriage, she can take the kids, leave and divorce.
In those days women like Clover couldn’t do that. Maybe Hilary is from that old school thought where women don’t leave their husband because they cheat, they still stay in the marriage together. In their minds, they might have thought that it was not worth it to give up such a long marriage because of a couple of months of cheating. Also, in today’s society, where Vanity Fair interviews every woman who is willing to talk about her divorce or break up (X, Sheryl Crow, Hilary Swank, and now Britney Spears), people almost in a wierd way like to see people as vulnerable, especially if said person is in a powerful position. People love to read about celebrities having meltdowns and politicians being raked over the coals. Their is a disturbing satisfaction people get out of that. So when they heard what Bill did, they were angry and wanted some kind of compensation. I think some people probably did want Hilary to have an emotional melt down or show her vulnerability to the public because of the humiliation she faced. Or maybe even divorce Bill. But she didn’t do any of that. She handled her emotions privately and never let the public into her personal problems. For some people that left a bitter taste in their mouth and they labeled Hilary as emotionless or thought she was a cold woman. Because they didn’t see her publicly humilate Bill, they thought she condoned his cheating ways or that she somehow enabled him. And that was seen as morally reprehensible in many people’s eyes. So now people have made up this image that Bill and Hillary are only staying together for ambition and for their public image.
I may not agree with every decision Bill or Hillary have made politically but I do think that they both have love for each other, in whatever form that may come across as.

i am so proud of the interviewer. brangelina fever sure is spreading so fast here in the Philippines! honestly, i had a hard time defending them to those aniston lovers here..it’s nice that i wasn’t able to watch FRIENDS episodes before so jen never got my symphathy over the break up thing. so starting from mr. and mrs. smith, im already a certified brangelina fan even if during those times almost everything written in the internet about them is negative. it’s so nice i found out about just jared because this site supports them! :)

Nowadays because she’s on the skinny side, everyone is beeyotching at her for being too slim saying, “she should eat something” “throw a McDonald’s at her” “she’s now as skinny as Nicole Richie” etc etc etc. But with these 2003 pics, this Bobo poster (which is funny to me, since Bobo in my native tongue, Tagalog, means stupid) is now saying she is too fat, that her face is swollen, and worse, that Brad beat her up.
To me, she looks great in these pics. Nowadays, as is normal for an active mother of three kids under 6, she is a little on the haggard, slim side. Which just goes to show me that she might be an A-list superstar, but she’s still a human being, but still gorgeous inside and out.
I’ve head Angie might be in the movie Atlas Shrugged and I hope she doesn’t do it.
Although I haven’t read the book, I’ve haven’t heard good things about Ayn Rand way of thinking from other people.
These are some of the criticisms I’ve read so if someone can inform me about what the book is about, I’d appreciate it. I’m being serious here so don’t pass me off as a hater. I want to say from the beginning that one does not need to agree with a philosophy to appreciate it but hey, it’s a movie so if you want people to watch it, it does matter.

- And that if you don’t vote republican, you probably won’t agree with Ayn Rand’s philosophy. And if you don’t agree with her philosophy, chances are you’ll find this story unnecessarily long-winded and boring.
-This story is a collection of plots and sub-plots, which all drive home the same point: pure capitalism is the way to go, and any attempt at governmental interference will stifle growth and hurt society as a whole.
-the ‘bad’ characters are ‘bad’ mostly because they think that social responsibility and compassion matter. Somehow compassion is a vice that the author distorts until it cannot be recognised.

First off, Jared THANK YOU for the new threads. You are the best….man! Best believe that! I love this interview….like the Vogue Article, I’ve read this a couple of times and I still go all “awww”. AJ is so open….I can’t understand why people think she’s this deceptive person. Amazing that all the interviews where she was the most revealing were conducted by foreign press. The US Media needs to take a look at itself…Yeah, sensationalism sells but what good is it when you lose all credibility? Again, thank goodness for the foreign press.
Alright, I need help…assurance on something that’s been bothering me. I need it before I do something really drastic…like douse myself in Acid. Here’s the deal, everytime an AJ/BP interview, picture, video comes out, my first intinct is read and Aww….but immediately after that, I start thinking “Hmmm, I wonder what they would find wrong about this now”…so I go back for another look-see, trying to spot ‘potential problem’ areas (which often times is something that could be misinterpreted…like the whole Trust Issue. I wish I could say I didn’t see that one coming.)….it’s like readying yourself for battle. I find myself doing it a lot lately and I fear in my effort to be prepared for the Fanistons, I am beginning to think like them, which isn’t really that difficult, all you have to do is forget you have a brain but that’s not the problem…..the problem is the act itself. I don’t wanna do it…thinking like the Fanistons is not something any sane person wants to do. So someone please….I beg you, reassure me that I am not alone before I gouge out my eyes. I’d really, really hate to do that….I love my eyes…why, I’ve been told I have beautiful eyes…almost catlike some say. I, myself, think it’s more on the….er…nevermind. Just tell me I’m not alone….this is an SOS.
I always liked her. But felt some resentment following the Jen issue. But i think after ready this interview, i am liking her again and realise that may be it was not her fault that Jen and Brad separated. She is very human and you can see that she is more matured now when expressing or talking about her love for a man (meaning: not like in her previous marriages)
The interview is great!! Although I had read it a week ago here in some of the threads. And I agree with anyone who said that it’s even better than Vogue. Brad as Angie said in her Vogue interview just wants her to be her self and not change her ways and thinking because he knows that what Angelina says it’s what it really is. The way Angelina is in public the same way she is at home. She doesn’t pretend to be someone she is not. She doesn’t say things just for the sake to look good in the public eye. She practises what she preaches and that is something Brad is aware about and proud of.

From my perspective, saying Angie is lucky to have Brad is because when it comes to love and total devotion, women (including “moi”) are so easy, i.e., no hang-ups whatsoever! We totally embrace all of what makes the partner - including children from previous relationship (s) or what not! The male species, on the other hand, have all kinds of issues doing this (not all of them, mind you!). From the outside looking in, Brad seems to love Angie just like WE, the female species love! Totally and Unconditionally. He is a RARE find indeed!!!!!!!!! Angie knows it and cherishes it as he cherishes her! They are both very lucky!

You’re not alone. I try to find kinks in their interviews just to prepare myself for what the fanistons will say and then the next thing you know, I’m thinking like them. It’s very easy to fall into that trap. I even start doubting why I like Angelina and Brad or why I’m so strong in my support of them. It’s a natural thing to question anything that you believe in. Even when you support a celebrity because I know never before have I ever cared about two celebrities as much as I do now. It’s wierd but I admit I’m addicted to seeing their pictures and getting new info about them. Don’t worry about it. Just don’t cross over to the dark side forever. It’s funny that I find myself thinking like a faniston sometimes when so many people are finally coming around to the idea that Brad and Angelina are good for each other and good together. When it seemed like the world was against them, I became a staunch supporter and now when people are beginning to like them, I find myself doubting why I like them ocassionaly.
I think it’s because many people have started to like them for superficial reasons like they think brad is hot or angie is pretty. Do you have any respite from the paparazzi at all?
We were just recently in our home in Cambodia and nobody was there. So there are ways and there are places (where there are no paparazzi). We also went to Brad’s parents’ house for about five days. That was lovely and quiet. Hopefully in the years to come, maybe if we work less, we’ll have more of a quiet life. Then our kids will have a more normal life. We just try not to let it (the paparazzi issue) affect us. It only does when we want the kids to have more freedom but other than that, we try to ignore it. There are worse problems so we’re OK.

LOL. That reminds me of a particular Halloween when I dressed my son up as Jesus. I don’t celebrate Halloween but my oldest son’s teacher came up with a really ingenious idea. She asked that if the parents were going to send the children dressed up in costumes could we make it a learning experience and have the children dress as important figures in history and they had to stand up in front of the class and briefly talk about who they were. It caught on as a fav with some of the other classes as the thing to do in the following years. I actually couldn’t wait for my daughter to get in her class but alas the teacher succumbed to cancer the following year. I now wonder if they still do that as it has been years.

I thought Brad’s dislike of Janice Min & US was fairly common knowledge. The same goes for Bonnie Fuller of Star mag, who used to be head honcho at US and Min’s boss.
As for how US has “sources” close to Brad and Angelina? Two thoughts come to mind - the janitor ain’t that close; and not everybody you is as circumspect with your busniess as you are. Supposedly US mag does not pay for information…but when it comes to Brad I’m sure Min is willing to break that rule to get whatever info she can. In this instance both money AND bullsh#t talk.
This is a lil something something about a visit Brad paid to Springfield for the purpose of introducing Angelina and kids to the family. There were no photo’s of it, nor did the media know about it until Doug Pitt shared it with PEOPLE magazine.

Pitt family backs Brad’s adoption plans

In an upcoming issue of People magazine, Doug Pitt expresses support of his brother Brad’s quest to adopt companion Angelina Jolie’s children — daughter Zahara, 11 months, and son Maddox, 4.
The issue dated Dec. 19 could hit stands as early as today.
Pitt told the News-Leader his family knew about Brad’s intent to adopt the two kids before the news became public Sunday.
“We knew this was coming,” Doug says.
Pitt’s publicist, Cindy Guagenti, released a statement Sunday confirming a legal petition seeking to change the names of the kids to Zahara Jolie-Pitt and Maddox Jolie-Pitt was filed Friday in Los Angeles.
The family has met Jolie and her kids, Doug told the News-Leader. Speaking guardedly, he says his brother and Jolie brought the kids to Springfield Nov. 20 for an overnight visit. Maddox and Zahara played with Brad’s nieces and nephews, says Doug. Though Doug was out of town during the family get-together, his kids enjoyed meeting their potential new cousins, he says.
“They had a blast,” he says. “Everyone got together and had a great time.”
Brad Pitt and Jolie starred in the action flick “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” which opened in June. Speculation about their relationship has surrounded the pair since, particularly after Pitt separated from wife Jennifer Aniston last January. Their four-year marriage ended in divorce Oct. 2.
Jolie, who adopted Maddox from Cambodia, and Zahara from Ethiopia, is known for her global humanitarian efforts. Within days of visiting Springfield, Pitt accompanied Jolie to Pakistan where an Oct. 8 earthquake left millions homeless.

I think they really stimulate each other intellectually (and, let’s face it, none of his bimbos came CLOSE to Hill’s intellect), and are partners for the long haul. I think she loves him in spite of his “issues”. Joan Kennedy though, I think you got wrong. The Kennedy family are CATHOLIC. In an era when even the Royals get divorced, I think they were the last to do so. I was not raised Catholic, so what I know of it is quite second hand, but divorce is one of the big noes I think.

LOL!!!!!!!!!! You know in my case I get bombarded with Daily Word or thoughts of the day or daily poems everyday in my emails at work, my personal emails and friends who write them and want my opinion on them. Just skim through them.
I will say that a great book to start the New Year with is the very first book that Iyanla Vanzant wrote called Acts of Faith. Have you read it? It’s what made her famous. It’s a small purple paperback with daily thoughts and situations to read for the entire year. The book was so good that I first read it withing a month. I could not wait to read only one a day. It’s been years since I’ve read it but I think I will revisit that book, which is her best.

May be Pat Nixon could not leave her husband because Richard Nixon might have been pathological. But Joan Kennedy could have left her husband a long time ago rather then choose to self destruct but stay, married to a Kennedy. I must admit, I can’t summon to much sympathy for Joan Kennedy. Al Gore’s wife, Tipper, was in no way as ambitious as Hilary Clinton, but still she managed to be a great support to him and had the opportunity to advance her pet projects.

Joan Bennet Kennedy was still a product of the Pat Nixon’s generation’s view of females whereas Hillary and Tipper were the product of the 60’s feminist ideals. Even if they had been raised to supress their individualism, by the time they had met their respective spouses, they had more than a passing awareness of the womens movement that was chipping away at those old mindsets, and that made it easier to rebel against the old rules of womanhood. Joan wasn’t so fortunate. She was a 1950’s Catholic women’s college girl who came from a family who prepared her for the only life she was expected to live, and sadly she ended up with the weakest link (so to speak) in the chain of Kennedy men, Edward, but “he was still a Kennedy”, and lets face it, in some circles “what’s love got to do with it?” Robert & Ethel were the only Kennedy marriage I think that would have stood the test of time (Maryilin included), and the only one were there was real love by both parties and real happiness.

The interviewer didn’t ask her ONLY about Brad and the kids. He asked her about her UN work, her flying, what she thinks is the message of the film (TGS), how it was to play a woman in 1940 and what are the differences with today, how it was to work with Robert Deniro , how does she feels about aging and witch of her movies had a personal impact on her. As you can see she was asked about plenty of other topics as well and she answered gracefully.

Chicago’s film critics Thursday named “The Departed” as their No. 1 movie of 2006, beating out competitors “Babel,” “Little Miss Sunshine” “The Queen” and “United 93.”
“The Departed,” an adaptation of the complex Hong Kong crime drama “Infernal Affairs,” won two other awards–Martin Scorsese took Best Director while William Monahan won for Best Adapted Screenplay. The only other film to win multiple prizes was Stephen Frears’ “The Queen,” which scored two awards.
Forest Whitaker took the Best Actor prize from the Windy City critics for his indelible interpretation of Idi Amin in “The Last King of Scotland.” His tough competition included Leonardo DiCaprio in “The Departed,” Ryan Gosling in “Half Nelson,” Peter O’Toole in “Venus” and Will Smith in “The Pursuit of Happyness.”
British actress Helen Mirren won the Best Actress award for playing another real-life figure, Queen Elizabeth II, in “The Queen,” film chronicling the royal family in the days after the tragic death of Princess Di. Her competition included Penelope Cruz for “Volver,” Judi Dench for “Notes on a Scandal,” Maggie Gyllenhaal for “Sherrybaby,” Meryl Streep for “The Devil Wears Prada” and Kate Winslet for “Little Children.” “The Queen” also earned Peter Morgan a citation for Best Original Screenplay.
“Little Children” didn’t go away empty-handed as Jackie Earle Haley was given the Best Supporting Actor award for his comeback performance as a deeply troubled man struggling with the demons still plaguing him. After a long absence from the screen, the former child star beat out the formidable likes of Ben Affleck in “Hollywoodland,” Eddie Murphy in “Dreamgirls,” Jack Nicholson in “The Departed,” Brad Pitt in “Babel” and Michael Sheen in “The Queen.”
Having led the pack with nine nominations, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s dense drama “Babel” scored the Best Supporting Actress award for newcomer Rinko Kikuchi, whose performance as an emotionally desperate Japanese schoolgirl was routinely cited as one of the acclaimed film’s highlights. Kikuchi’s competition included “Babel” co-star Adriana Barraza, Cate Blanchett for “Notes on a Scandal,” Abigail Breslin and Toni Collette for “Little Miss Sunshine” and Jennifer Hudson for “Dreamgirls.”
In a surprise move, Clint Eastwood’s Japanese-language World War II epic “Letters From Iwo Jima” came away with the award for Best Foreign-Language Film. The film, which looks at the siege of Iwo Jima from the Japanese point-of-view and conceived as a bookend to Eastwood’s American take on the same subject, “Flags Of Our Fathers,” beat out such acclaimed titles as Pedro Almodovar’s “Volver,” Guillermo del Toro’s “Pan’s Labyrinth,” Gavin Hood’s “Tsotsi” and Mel Gibson’s Mayan epic “Apocalypto.”
Two visionary science-fiction films were also honored by the CFCA. Alfonso Cuaron’s “Children of Men,” a harrowing glimpse of a future where women can no longer bear children, was given the Best Cinematography prize for Emmanuel Lubezki’s breathtaking contributions while Darren Aronofsky’s time-tripping epic “The Fountain” earned composer Clint Mansell the Best Original Score award.
“An Inconvenient Truth,” a chronicle of Al Gore’s lectures on the dangers of global warming, melted away the competition and won Best Documentary over “Deliver Us From Evil,” “Jesus Camp,” “Shut Up and Sing” and “Wordplay.”
First-time filmmaker Rian Johnson was awarded the prize for Most Promising Filmmaker for “Brick,” his brilliant debut film that took the classic conventions of film noir and placed them within the confines of a contemporary high school. Finally, Sacha Baron Cohen took away the Most Promising Performing award for his performances in both the controversial hit comedy “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” and the NASCAR spoof “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.”
The Chicago Film Critics Association started out in 1988 with six charter members. Just wanted to say that Brad and Angie have been accepted into the main stream now. Really only a few people who are very active on blog boards actually talk bad about them. With Angie opening up and telling about their home life and then walking the red carpet there is no question that the world has accepted them(even LIz Smith). I think that a year ago people were maybe against them but not now. The battle is over they have won. The Fanistons as you call them are really small in number but post alot. I don’t think that their really is much need to defend them(angie and Brad). Really only about probably 20 people at the most come on boards and talk bad about Angie and Brad. They just post over and over again so it makes them look like more.

Isn’t that interview fantastic? Wasn’t there a first part posted by someone here a couple of weeks ago? Anyway that picture is proof of something I’ve be telling people here and elsewhere. when Angelina gains even an ounce, it goes straight to her face first body second. She looks about 10 pounds heavier in that old picture than today. But her cheeks fill out like a chimpmunk (a cute one at that. LOL!!) To keep her face angular so her cheekbones are more prominent, she keeps her weight down, but the rest of her body is the first to suffer that weight loss. Another actress like this is Ashley Judd. When she gains a little weight, her cheeks fill out first.
Whem individuals gain weight it’s usually prominent in one area mostly like hips, thighs, face, arms, stomach. The same with losing weight. When I lose weight, the first thing that goes are my breasts. It’s annoying I tell you. As you age you must choose between your body or your face. If you want a round full wrinke free face, you give up your quest for a thin body and fatten up. If you choose a slim body till you die, be ready for a thin face with some wrinkes, lines and eye sockets showing.
Atlas Shrugged is supposed to be in three installments, kind of like the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. I’m more interested in THE MERCENARY which is currently in development. Angelina would be playing the Russian leader Catherine the Great.
I just saw a documentary on her on the History Channel and boy what a story. If it’s done right, The Mercenary could be great but it could also end up like that universallly hated ALEXANDER.
Now that they are out publicly, I wonder at their next outing, say the GG. if we will see a little more PDA. such as more hand holding, a hug here and there. and maybe a peck on the cheeck,

For Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the holidays are a time for giving – on a global scale. They spent Christmas with refugees in Costa Rica and now they’re making good on their New Year’s resolution: to intensify their efforts to aid Cambodia.
Back in November, during a stealth family visit to the homeland of their son Maddox, 5, the couple pledged to expand the scope of the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Project (MJP), which Jolie launched more than four years ago as a conservation initiative.
They’ve donated millions of dollars and teamed up with Dr. Jeffrey Sachs and his antipoverty organization Millennium Promise on an economic-development program in northwestern Cambodia. Seventy MJP workers will work with Sachs’s group on activities – including rice planting, distribution of bed nets to fight malaria, school meal programs and providing medicines for clinics – to create Asia’s first Millennium Village.
“We have learned so much,” Jolie, who was awarded honorary Cambodian citizenship in 2004, tells PEOPLE, “and I think we are on the right track.”
During their stay in November, the family also traveled to the capital city of Phnom Penh to visit the Maddox Chivan Children’s Center, a facility to care for kids affected by tuberculosis and AIDS, which was opened this past February with substantial financial assistance from Jolie.
“They arrived and just couldn’t hold enough kids,” says Anne Goldfeld, cofounder of the Cambodian Health Committee, which operates the center. “They were very natural, very real, very respectful and very interested. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without her.”
In the coming year, Jolie and Pitt also hope to boost Cambodia’s economic development by encouraging tourism. “We hope people will travel to Cambodia,” says Jolie. “The people there have overcome so much.”
No matter what, Cambodia has a permanent place in their own hearts. “It was incredibly moving,” says Pitt, “to visit my son’s country.”

TGS hit $18+mil so far, and I personally think it’s going to climb higher and higher because it seems to be a movie that is compelling viewers to return for a second look, and even a third one. Also the word of mouth is spreading the message of how good it is.
btw, I’m really a bit shocked that DREAMGIRLS didn’t pull in more even though it’s only in 800+ theatres (don’t get that one at all). I was certain it would have been at least 2nd to NIGHT AT THE MUSEM, but THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS holds that spot.

I’ve been on some political blogs and The Good Shepard was brought atleast twice in the comments section. People were positive with their remarks and since it has to do with the CIA and people who visit political blogs regularly love that kind of stuff. I think Word of mouth is really going to help. It’s weekend gross was $10 million, then it climbed to $14 million and now it’s at $18 million. The industry insiders really underestimated how much business this movie would do.
I think the reason Dreamgirls didn’t do as well as some hoped is that there was so much hype around this movie that people got annoyed by it and decided to skip it all together. Maybe it will pick up soon.

On 12-25-06 Dream Girls earned $10 mil and came in second to Night at the Museum. I haven’t checked box office takes today. It’s only at 800 theaters? Then that is great. I saw it and it is great. The theater was packed. Everyone I’ve spoken to said the same thing, packed, packed. It is truly great. Babel, TGS, and Dreamgirls are the three best movies I’ve seen thus far. I will see Children of Men this weekend.

I would almost say that Angelina would be the female version of Johnny Depp but not quite. He’s quite older than she is and has had more diverse but very interesting roles most of which have not been box office. But he didn’t get flack for that. Prior to the Pirates franchise, Depp has not really been WOW at the boxoffice like Tom Cruise. I like a lot of Depp’s films.

After being No. 1 three weeks ago, “Apocalypto” has stalled, with a $35 million cume.
While the holidays boosted specialty titles like “Letters From Iwo Jima” and “Babel,” Mel Gibson’s holdover “Apocalypto” seemed stuck in neutral, after generating surprising heat in its debut three weekends ago.
“Apocalypto” isn’t a family-friendly pic that plays well with Christmas auds: Going up against holiday fare with subtitles and ultraviolent content may not have been a savvy programming move.
Extended four-day weekend gave Disney’s “Apocalypto” another $3.9 million, from 2,144 engagements, for a weak per-playdate average of $1,860. Its cume stands at $35.7 million.
Given the budget (an estimated $70 million) and potential overseas and in ancillaries, it could wind up OK. While the results are a far cry from the boffo “The Passion of the Christ,” the Mayan pic has at least survived; after Gibson’s arrest, many forecast the film would be dead on arrival.
Disney’s PR and marketing staff successfully distanced the pic from its helmer’s off-screen controversies, helping the pic to land the top spot on its Dec. 8 opening weekend.
But it seems now that only Gibson’s core audience came out en masse for the subtitled Mayan epic. It’s had a much tougher time drawing general auds in subsequent frames.
“Apocalypto” bowed to more than $15 million, topping the Leonardo DiCaprio vehicle “Blood Diamond” and Nancy Meyers’ “The Holiday” (which also have had a tough time keeping their B.O. up.)
In its second frame, “Apocalypto” slipped into sixth position as its B.O. slipped 46.6%. Receipts dipped another 50% over the four-day Christmas frame as the pic dropped out of the top 10 altogether.
It remains to be seen whether “Apocalypto” can get any traction from awards buzz, which buoyed a few limited releases over the Christmas frame.
Clint Eastwood’s “Letters From Iwo Jima” posted a six-day take of $162,350 off five screens for Warners, making for a healthy per-playdate average of $32,470. Pic has consistently been making critics’ best-of lists, and Warners is taking a slow approach after precursor “Flags of Our Fathers” failed to catch on in wide release.
Paramount Vantage’s “Babel” also continues to enjoy a boost from Golden Globes noms and critical attention. Pic added another $118,434 on Christmas Day to bring its cume to just under $19 million. Pic is still playing in 207 engagements.
Miramax’s Peter O’Toole starrer “Venus,” meanwhile, played to $54,000 over the four-day frame for a solid per-screen average of more than $18,000 off three. Cume now stands at $59,800 after it opened mid-week.
Miramax’s “The Queen” raised its cume to $26.6 million by adding $577,000 from 302 engagements.
Sony Classics also got off to a good start with its “Curse of the Golden Flower.” Pic opened Thursday and has so far cumed $724,369 off 60.
Specialty division’s “Volver” has so far taken in $3.8 million after eight weeks in release.

I never read the book but I’ve heard most people that read the book said the fact that it was real added to the impact of the story. So the question is now that everyone knows that most of the story is false iwould it make a worthy film. If IMDB is correct, than Plan B must of thought it was not a good bet to keep putting money in a dead project.

I think it will do very well, but I’m still surprised it didn’t open at #1. I also don’t understand the reasoning behind it only opening in 8?? theaters during a time when schools are out, kids got money, and it’s a movie that has the cast, and serious buzz that it has. I can only assume that the marketers wanted to wait for NATM, TPH, and all the the other possible contenders were out of the way before they let it fully out of the gate. just a theory, and nothingmore.

AS stars of the dramatic Babel, Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt have proved more nimble on their feet than the tap-dancing penguins of Happy Feet in enticing Boxing Day movie audiences around Australia.
Released on 40 screens, Babel, made by Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, enjoyed a screen average of $9904.
Runner-up with Boxing Day crowds was the 21st James Bond adventure, Casino Royale, featuring new Bond, Daniel Craig.
In its third week, it still averaged $8111 on a massive 403 screens nationally.
Opening on 401 screens on Boxing Day, Happy Feet, directed by George Miller and featuring the voices of Elijah Wood, Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, averaged $6025 for a first day total box office of $2,416,030 (compared with the smaller-release Babel’s total of $531,907).

Yes JD was a serial engager,but there was a method to his madness, he wanted a family!His bio was on the other night and I tivo’ed it and watched it last night.He is the male form of Angelina in many ways.They both felt different growing up,never really fitting into what people consider the NORM.They both grew up in broken homes,moved around alot as kids.They both dabbled in drugs and love tats.AJ and JD both love hard when they love.The one thing that most people look over with JD and AJ they both are very traditional,they just don’t look it by appearence.Family comes first with AJ and JD and if acting has to take a backseat then oh well.They both could careless about Hollywood and its trappings.

I can’t remember there being SO many great flicks at the same time. I just saw a commerical for NOTES ON A SCANDAL and it looks amazing. I love Dame Judith Dench, and adore Cate Blanchett. I just can’t see anything right now, but once the holidays calm down, and people are outa my hair, I’ll play catch up. I’m one of those people who rather go to the theater alone so I can concentrate. I plan on doing a week of matinee’s, just me and my own bucket of popcorn and the projection guy lol.

Yes JD was a serial engager,but there was a method to his madness, he wanted a family!His bio was on the other night and I tivo’ed it and watched it last night.He is the male form of Angelina in many ways.They both felt different growing up,never really fitting into what people consider the NORM.They both grew up in broken homes,moved around alot as kids.They both dabbled in drugs and love tats.AJ and JD both love hard when they love.The one thing that most people look over with JD and AJ they both are very traditional,they just don’t look it by appearence.Family comes first with AJ and JD and if acting has to take a backseat then oh well.They both could careless about Hollywood and its trappings.

Something interesting also is that while Angelina and Johnny are both Gemini’s, Brad and Vanessa are both Sag’s. Won’t say that this really means anything, but I thought it was very coincidental when looking at how similar AJ/JD’s past have been, and how those paralel’s continue with how they live now. Makes you wonder if they each found the exact same things in who they’ve chosen to be with and raise a family.

If one person does it, then we’ll have 20 people doing it and pretty soon the thread is unreadable. LOL I thought I was the only one who thought that way..my friends think Im a bit strange but.. if I choose to read a review then that is ok but.. I think the hype on this movie alone was a bit much. Im sure I will rent the dvd though. I just dont like someone telling me who or what I must love. im scorpio… not sure what that means though LOL :lol:

On 12-25-06 Dream Girls earned $10 mil and came in second to Night at the Museum. I haven’t checked box office takes today. It’s only at 800 theaters? Then that is great. I saw it and it is great. The theater was packed. Everyone I’ve spoken to said the same thing, packed, packed. It is truly great. Babel, TGS, and Dreamgirls are the three best movies I’ve seen thus far. I will see Children of Men this weekend. They are still posting weekend grosses.

I think it will do very well, but I’m still surprised it didn’t open at #1. I also don’t understand the reasoning behind it only opening in 8?? theaters during a time when schools are out, kids got money, and it’s a movie that has the cast, and serious buzz that it has. I can only assume that the marketers wanted to wait for NATM, TPH, and all the the other possible contenders were out of the way before they let it fully out of the gate. just a theory, and nothingmore.

I think your theory is good, and I am still wondering why The Good Shepherd was released at Christmas as has been stated this is not the best time for opening a thinking/drama movie. I’m sure the reasoning was valid but I still haven’t figured out why. The only thing I can come up with is that this was the only time Angelina had available for promoting it. Brad did Oceans 13, Angelina did The Mighty Heart, and then Brad started Benjamin Button. Maybe this was the only good time available for promotion.

I guess make this VirLib an honorary Gem because I am the same way! I like Hugh Grant, and I love Drew Barrymore (haven’t seen any movies of her’s but two, but I like her personality) and really was kinda excited about their new movie. Well they’ve started running the ad after ad for their movie “THAT DOESN’T COME OUT UNTIL VALENTINE’S DAY!!!!” Earlier today I saw the commerical for like the 80th time and thought “I’ll wait for the dvd because I’m bored already.”
