Mr & Mrs Smith Hits Small Screen

A one-hour pilot of Mr. & Mrs. Smith was just given the green light, which is being described as ” ‘Married … With Children’ with guns.” SERIOUSLY?
Here’s what The Hollywood Reporter is saying:

The film’s writer, Simon Kinberg, penned the pilot script, about John and Jane Smith, a married couple who both work as assassins.

The film’s director, Doug Liman, is on board to helm the pilot and executive produce with Kinberg and Dave Bartis.

The pilot takes place about six months after the events in the 2005 feature starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, which grossed more than $186 million in North America. The Smiths have bought a new house in a new suburb and have re-established their businesses, but the attraction and sexual spark they had found at movie’s end has dwindled, and they are back dealing with marital issues.

“In a way, the show is all about the marriage,” Kinberg said. “It is a show about any married couple trying to balance professional and home life.”

You know what is funny, those who bash Angelina based on her outrageous acts in the past probably have much BIGGER skeletons in their closet.

At least, she can walk around with her head high knowing she has no skeletons left in the closet so to speak.

Meanwhile, the folks pointing fingers have to ensure the padlocks are tight on them closets…just in case.

;-)

not only bigger but more skeletons too.

Aspects,I disagree. It’s because most of these posters are women who are personalizing this divorce.Jan 7 will be 2 years so why are they still crying homewreaker and still trying to figure out the how and when everything happened?I’m sorry but I feel a person who 2 years later is still harping on a celebrity break-up has some mental issues. What in the h#ll do these people do when they have problems in real life?

Marla - I agree with your point of view. I really think that a lot of why Oprah is doing this project in this manner it is to fulfill the dream of what she wished for herself as a young girl and as a means to help heal the wound of growing up in abject poverty. So I really think that the project is done in part for these young girls but also for herself and, after all she has done for others, where’s the harm in doing something that might help HER a bit? Like you said, most projects stem from a cause that is close to someone’s heart - this one is close to hers. I felt a bit cynical about it all when I first read about it, but after thinking about it I just decided to let it go and be okay with it.

Frenchy - Angelina was pretty wild in her 20’s and a lot of people haven’t got those image out of their mind quite yet. I say look at what an amazing woman she is becoming in her 30’s!! I am only a few years older than her and she is hands down the woman I most admire in my age range. I say give the cynics another year or two and they’ll realize that BAMZS is for real, isn’t going ANYWHERE but up, and will only get better! :-)

Tabloids:

You missed 2 points there…She made a TV movie title “True Women” with Dana Delaney & also starred in the movie “Mojave Moon” with Danny Aiello & Anne Archer.

The outragousness is way in the past and was never directed anyone. What you do with your husband is your business. And the earlier self destructiveness that she had was directed inward and she was VERY young. I think it’s just becasue she’s a woman. let’s face it. Go to your largest newstand and take a look at the tabloids and entertainment magazines. what do you see? Exploitation of women celebrities. Except for a rare Clooney sighting for sexiest man or Brad or Nick Lachey, there are never any men on the cover of these tabs. With the exception of a major national story involving a male celeb like mel Gibson, Ryan Phillippe or Brad when something goes down, there are never running covers of men. Where are the covers of the top men like Sacha Baron Cohen, Leo, Justin , Johnny Depp, Ryan Gosling, McConnehey Keifer Sutherland , Wentworth Miller etc……is it only about scandal? Seriously Where are the weekly covers of Mel Gibson or Michael (Kramer)Richards (who had far more damaging incidents) than a story about X wanting to see her ex’s baby.? It’s all about blasting & exploiting women.

Thanks for the additions.

Also another movie “Love is All there Is” with Paul Sorbino & Lainie Kazan

Frenchy 12:43 am - AMEN!! What’s really scary is that women have bought this hook, line, and sinker. I’m to the point where the only celebrity stuff going on that I really want to follow is if someone is doing something positive with their life or working on an interesting project/film, because I’m so sick of all the other crap. There is such a double standard in our society today - if a star such as AJ had pulled the stunt that Mel G did, their film would have been pulled from the theatres and the premiere cancelled. End of story.

I agree. How and where you give to charity wise, is no different than how you wear your clothes or what car you drive. It’s all about PERSONAL CHOICE. How you spend the honest money you’ve made is up to you. Usually, but not always, the charity of choice has some kind of personal connection to the giver.

…………………………………………………………………………………..

I see that both of you have highlighted the poing about personal choice. Charity should be a personal choice but it should also be about personal responsiblity for your actions. Charity is very different from choosing what type of clothes you decide to wear. What you wear has no impact on others. How you choose to give to others impacts many lives and has great consequences. Yes, how you spend the honest money you’ve made is up to you but with that comes the burden of knowing how your choices will effect others. When you decide to give to others, your actions are not limited to yourselves only. They have long term effects on others and if you are willing to accept your role in the consequences that will come to be, then you have every right to make whatever decision you choose. But you should also be aware of the greater impact your contribution will have on the larger scale.

Here’s an example…

The response to this article was that JD is fantastic, a gread actor, deserves and Oscar, lot’s of cooing and ahhhing. Because he’s a man. If Angelina had said this…OY!!!! Read on…….

Johnny Depp is proud he is known as a weird actor.
(BANG) - Johnny Depp loves being labelled weird.

The actor - who has portrayed a host of eccentric characters on the big screen, including Captain Jack Sparrow in ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ and Willy Wonka in ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ - believes he discovered who he really is as a person by taking on oddball roles.

He said: “I was given the weird badge but I think everybody’s weird and that’s the key to it. We should celebrate out individuality, not be embarrassed or ashamed of it. We all have idiosyncrasies. People do themselves a great disservice by not allowing themselves to see who they really are because they are afraid of what others might think.”
Meanwhile, Depp has been preparing for his role as demonic barber Sweeney Todd by practicing his razor skills at home.

The actor has become so obsessed with playing the murderous character, in the musical film of the same name, he is spending hours on end pretending to cut imaginary throats.

A source said: “Johnny is always very conscientious in his roles. For this part he has to get into the mind of a serial killer. He wants to feel adept with the razor blades, to feel as if they were an extension of his arm.”

…………………………………………………………………………………………

That’s the thing, just because a decision is made with the intent of helping others, does not mean it will always have positive results. The questio ALL people should as is What is the harm it could cause if my good intentions to help others turns out to be not the best decision in the long run? In other words, people should weigh both the positive and negative outcomes that could result from their decisions.

I’m not pin pointing Oprah, I’m generalizing about anyone who chooses to contribute to others.

coalharbourqt @ 01/02/2007 at 1:35 am

me says 1:01 am - I do agree with what you are saying. I would like to think that Oprah has weighed the pros and cons of how she is going about this project. I think we could all sit around hashing this one out until we’re blue in the face, but the reality is that the school is built and will be opening this week - it doesn’t make any difference what we think at this point.

All I can say is that before I donate time, money or energy into a cause I try and do my research - I hope everyone does the same!

mmm says 1:19 am - I often wonder the same thing - but like I said - women have bought it hook, line, and sinker so they could be female. As much as women have moved forward in a lot of ways, we’ve also slid backwards in some weird ways in the past few years.

Goodnight and sweet dreams to you all. Can’t wait for the Golden Globes!! :-)

Jared thanks for the wonderful clippings from Mr & Mrs Smith. You are one superb blogger. Keep up the good job!

i don’t really see Angelina as WILD in her 20’s, i think she’s just weird or different to other girls IMO, WILD for me is Britney Spears, clubbing and no panties showing her gina hehe, Angie is not like that in her 20’s, thank goodness

Frenchy Says:

….By the way Angelina started a school in Cambodia about 2 years ago I think and another vocational sewing school for girls in Kenya. No many know about these becasue she did it “quietly”.

hahaha. Point well taken Frenchy. Hope the whiners get it too. She had also started a millenium village which I understand has been running for the last 4 years (am I right or did I misread it??) No one knew about it too. Now they do, but I believe they are actively trying to make it public enough to raise funds for it.

Angelina has donated more than a reported $ 12 million+ quietly before she came to limelight. But here is an interesting article from Forbes:

At times in the past, I have come down fairly hard on news stations featuring celebrities’ daily activities as “daily news.” But there are times when it is appropriate to discuss the daily actions of famous people, even in a magazine such as Forbes, when said actions amount to $58 million dollars in charitable donations given by three people.

That statistic becomes even more impressive once one realizes that Oprah Winfrey, love her or hate her, donated $52 million dollars in 2005 alone to charitable organizations and functions. The other two celebrities filling out the other $6 million are Steven Spielberg ($3 million) and Angelina Jolie ($3 million +). It has become a cliche of American society that “to whom much is given, much is expected” (possibly because so many people have ignored the sentiment), and many progressive thinkers (myself included) routinely attack the elements of society that give so much money to entertainers and so little to people such as school teachers, who are responsible for raising generations of youth.

But it’s also important to recognize that there are some highly paid people who don’t hesitate to give their money back to others. These are not people paying a tax on their income (though they obviously do that too), these are not people being backed into a corner and “forking over” a couple of dollars. Orpah Winfrey could have kept $52 million dollars for her own entertainment, but she chose to give it away to people who don’t have as much. And I think that’s pretty impressive.

I agree lylian, I think her only humanitarian works that gets the publicity is the UNHCR since the media & the UN got to document everything what was going on so you see more of their accomplishments. The donation of the Shiloh pictures …they only reported it in the media to make sure people will hear that the money earned from the baby pics are sent to proper charity. Thus they created the Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

She also made a donation helping the Native Americans & the Wildlife Foundation at Namibia but those are just reported now since the media dig it up, but those are started a long time ago. But haters will never acknowledge them. just another typical reaction from haters & doubters. And the media is fuelling it from lies & twisting facts.

Dragon Fly says:
I just hate to see the boys shut out of an opportunity such as this kind of school. To me, it’s kinda sexist, but that’s probably just because I have boys of my own.
————-
This comment is why the world has to start educating girls to a higher level. We need to change the attitudes of women about women and girls. While I do agree that the boys in africa need to be educated as well, life for females in africa is hell. Plain and simple. I was watching a special on cnn on the women in africa, and I had to change the channel because I was crying too hard. I am not a sappy person, but a person would have to be dead to not cry at hearing their stories. What Oprah is doing deserves alot of praise. Yes, it is over the top, but it is her money. Years ago, when the cabbage dolls came out, I remember watching the news about a family that had been robbed at christmas or didn`t have any money (can`t remember which). When the family was interviewed they showed the family`s little girl with a cabbage patch doll. Shorlty after that a new story was released. People were outraged that this little girl who`s family was so poor, had a cabbage patch doll. They felt that being that this family was so poor, the little girl should not have the one toy that every little girl in america wanted. The mother explained how she made alot of sacrifices to get her that doll, and it was not a real one. There are times when people can be so cruel. I feel that Oprah wants these girls to see what they can have if they work hard. She wants them to know that they deserve the best. No one knows how this school will work out. Oprah may have to change everything about her school. Then again it just might have wonderful results. I applaud her, even though I am not a a big fan.

dragon fly says:—— there have been studies in this country that have concluded that over the last 20-25 years, as a result of the women’s movement there have been SO many programs designed to help girls with their self-esteem that boys are now languighing behind them with simalar problems that girls had 30 years ago.
——-
What country are referring to? It can`t be america where girls have such low self esteem. Where women openly declare they hate women. I have 2 teenage daughters and a 5 yr old son. While I simply adore my son, I was tired of people telling me how lucky I was that I didn`t have another girl. I love my daughters as much as I love my son. I want wonderful things for all three of them.

The list with Angie’s professional credits omitted that she was awarded the Academy award and not only nominated as best supporting actress for GI.

Lylian,
I meant to tell you what a great post you made. In a way I agree with a little bit of what everyone has said. I am hoping 2007 can be a year in which we all learn a little and teach a little. This is what I have enjoyed for the past 2 years here-the BAMZS at jjs are so intelligent and resourceful-I have learned a great deal and I am sure I will learn more as the year progresses-I just finished the Boise State OU game and It was the best game I have seen so far-if ever there was an example of never giving up-BSU was the epitome of never giving up! If you fall down 7 times, you have to get up 8 times-well gotta go-Hope u all had a great new years-I CERTAINLY did-excuse the typos-I hate laptop keyboards-

One of my new year resolutions is to give $X to a charity cause. Just read a very interesting article about why we should’nt sponsor a particular child but rather try to donate in a way that benefits the entire community. See website:

http://www.newint.org/issue111/keynote.htm

any thoughts??

It’s the old double standard. Brad has had a wild past too. Hello! Did he not date a 16 yro when he was like 26 or 27 yet people don’t DARE bring that fact up. They would rather bring Angie’s past up. Whatever! Nobody is perfect!

Hi everyone, Happy New Year!

On doing our part, I too agree with Lilian and think some of us can do our part by helping a particular individual. I for one, am helping someone from one of the “countries” to get an Ivy league teaching position. I thought that by putting someone with a promising future in an important place would benefit him and his country as a whole…
