OlderAngelina Jolie Reaches Sainthood
What would Angelina Jolie and her children — Maddox, Zahara, and Shiloh — look like depicted as saints, virgins, and cherubs? Kate worked out her own depiction of them on an 88′ x 60″ oil & acrylic on linen in a painting called “Blessed Art Thou.” Here’s how she describes the painting:
This painting addresses the celebrity worship cycle. The title, “Blessed Art Thou”, is taken from a line in the Catholic prayer “Hail Mary”: “…blessed art thou among women”. Our culture is deifying celebrities, but in the bible, it is the meek who are blessed, so the title presents a question for the viewer to ponder.
I chose a setting where the cycle begins: psychologically oppressive environments like this one are the source for the consumer, hungry for “information” about the celebrity. I am interested in the psychological ramifications of celebrity worship, particularly as they relate to class.
Angelina Jolie was chosen as the subject because of her unavoidable presence in the media, the world-wide anticipation of her child, her “unattainable” beauty and the good that she is doing in the world through her example, which adds another layer to the complicated questions about her “deification”.
The “Virgin” and Zahara figures are loosely based on a Van Dyck Virgin painting, and the Maddox figure’s pose is borrowed from a Raphael painting.
The artwork will be on display at the Chelsea Galleria booth at the Art Miami Fair at the Miami Beach Convention Center, January 5-8th. Kate will be at the fair Friday & Saturday.

Ted C. was nasty with Brad and Angie in 2005, because he feel sorry for Aniston. He said Brad was a jerk with her, because after their break up he didn’t gave her the time of the day. And move on very fast with Angie. He said he had sources saying how sad Aniston was.
But he did say that Angie was not the main reason of their split. He said it was about their egos. And he said that there was no affair in the set of MMs. But he believed they fall in love there. Oh, and he does like Angie, he said the only woman he would have s.e.x with in hollywood was Angie, and he always says she is beautiful.
I guess, he thinks Brad loves Angie more than she loves him. He said that Brad’s friends told him that Brad and Angie s.e.x life is the best they ever had.
But the funny thing, was that he reported, that around june of 2005, Aniston was crazy out of her mind trying to get back with Brad, but he didn’t even want to talk to her.

Lola - thank you for your educated and intelligent comments about the painting - ITA! Perhaps you studied Art History/English Lit. at university too? ;-)
Passing Through - I get what you’re saying but I disagree that this will garner the artist future paid work - they may hope it will but I don’t think they aren’t talented enough for anyone to really sit up and pay attention. While the Wal-Mart details in the painting are cute, the angles/proportions on Angelina’s left side of her face and forehead are all “wonky” as one of my art teachers used to say. IMHO anyway. If something does come out of all this for the painter you can come back and say “I told you so!” :-)

I think its sick that she and brad spent most of christmas day away from their own kids just to hand out toys to people that dont know or even care who they are - theyre just thankful to get the gifts. But Brangelina had to go for the big PR stunt! Atrocious and disgusting!!

Clever Angelina knows her man loves modern art - and has, in his collection, a smirking mug shot silkscreen of Steve McQueen done by English artist Russell Young. It’s very Warhol inspired. Since Brad is particularly fond of Young’s colorful work (and so are WE,) Angelina bought him two more prints from the celebrity mug shot collection. In our opinion she selected the cream of the crop - Sid Vicious and Frank Sinatra. We all know what Sid was arrested for, but we were surprised to learn that Frankie was arrested for “adultery” in 1938.

I guess it is better to spend christmas getting drunk/partying in a Mexican resort with your best buds then spending it with your sick father and your long lost mother. BP and AJ spent the morning with their children and spent the afternoon teaching them the real meaning of Christmas. Always something to nag about.

Did anyone notice that the picture with angie and the horse is the same pose brad did in a magazine when he was promoting ocean’s twelve. However, brad was nude.
where can I find the naked pic? I love objectifying Brad SOMETIMES [and I'm not being snarky]

I agreement with your post. Almost everything’s made overseas so most of the money we spend goes to other countries, a very small amount of their profits are shared as dividends to their stock holders, but the rest goes to their enflated corporate structure, and Corporate Executives. The only way they will “buy American” is if the vendor will cave to the price Wal-mart is willing pay, Which screws the company & it’s employees. As for employee benifits, when they start getting close to a full time status, they cut their hours so they won’t be eligible for any. Bah

FYI, others have already debated this to death in recent threads with many people making the point that the spirit of Christmas is actually reflected in Angelina’s and Brad’s act of giving to refugees on that day (btw the “publicity” for that was actually done by the UN since Angelina was visiting in her capacity as a UN amabassador.)
Worth noting, by the way that the gift giving tradition of Christmas, whether you think it is rooted in the tradition of the magi/wise men in the Nativity story or from St. Nicholas/Santa Claus, actually began with people (magi/St. Nick) giving gifts to strangers (baby Jesus/random children), not family members or relatives. So although the western tradition has evolved so that most of us stay home with the family all day on Christmas exchanging presents, that isn’t by any means the “only” way or the “correct” way to celebrate Christmas. By the way, do you think it’s also “sick” that people volunteer at homeless shelters or soup kitchens on Thanksgiving to help feed people that day rather than eat with their family? I don’t hear people criticizing that, even if celebrities are the ones doing it.

She is not painted as an angel; rather as the mother of God (Shiloh), with M and Z as angels.
Hmmmm … the artist perhaps just wanna court some publicity and controversy.
I don’t Angelina is afffilated with any particular religion but I do think she is spiritual and that’s one way of being religious, IMHO. I don’t believe she’s an athiest though. Although her mom is Catholic, Angelina has been known to interested in the teachings of Buddhism and has a lot of prayers as tattoos on her body. She doesn’t really conform to any one school of thought, but she does strike me as a believer in God. It’s just that Angelina’s interpretation of what God is and what God means might be different from other people’s interpretation. And let’s face it, we all view God and religion differently so there really isn’t a right or wrong way.
With her bi-sexuel and incestious relationships. One can assume that she does not believe in God.

Honey if it was for the mass little Jen’s movies would have surpass 300.000.000 by now too but oops… they flopped so BAD!! And that is why she is not working for about a year. This is fascinating.
I thought about this painting some more…..
So who is Brad Pitt supposed to be? Is he the light over her head? Is he God? Some interesting points this brings up.
Obviously the adopted kids are angels brought to save Angie. Shiloh is covered because she needs protection from the media.
This is a fascinating painting - the more I think of it. Also remember, in classic paintings like Michaelangelos kids were often depicted as naked angels -I don’t like it but it is fitting for the period the painting is trying to conjure up.
Any thoughts? Who is Brad supposed to be?????
Maybe the entire painting is Brad’s dream???????????
