OlderAngelina Jolie Reaches Sainthood
What would Angelina Jolie and her children — Maddox, Zahara, and Shiloh — look like depicted as saints, virgins, and cherubs? Kate worked out her own depiction of them on an 88′ x 60″ oil & acrylic on linen in a painting called “Blessed Art Thou.” Here’s how she describes the painting:
This painting addresses the celebrity worship cycle. The title, “Blessed Art Thou”, is taken from a line in the Catholic prayer “Hail Mary”: “…blessed art thou among women”. Our culture is deifying celebrities, but in the bible, it is the meek who are blessed, so the title presents a question for the viewer to ponder.
I chose a setting where the cycle begins: psychologically oppressive environments like this one are the source for the consumer, hungry for “information” about the celebrity. I am interested in the psychological ramifications of celebrity worship, particularly as they relate to class.
Angelina Jolie was chosen as the subject because of her unavoidable presence in the media, the world-wide anticipation of her child, her “unattainable” beauty and the good that she is doing in the world through her example, which adds another layer to the complicated questions about her “deification”.
The “Virgin” and Zahara figures are loosely based on a Van Dyck Virgin painting, and the Maddox figure’s pose is borrowed from a Raphael painting.
The artwork will be on display at the Chelsea Galleria booth at the Art Miami Fair at the Miami Beach Convention Center, January 5-8th. Kate will be at the fair Friday & Saturday.

I’m sorry… your use of the word PERFECTION confuses me. I thought the reason most people here like AJ is because of her Imperfections and even if we wanted pretend like she was this perfect human being, I doubt people like you will ever let us forget.

Okay….You do know AJ is not the only celebrity in the public eye with her children, right? You might not think so but compared to other celebrities…AJ’s children aren’t that out there (Think Gwen Stafani)

I wouldn’t go that far. I think that if we all bought plane tickets and picketed the exhibit or made incessant calls to the gallery holding the exhibition, then she would’ve gotten our time and attention, plus a heavy dose of publicity. At this point, we’re just voicing our displeasure. The last thing I want is for this woman to have a platform to defend.
Really, who would want more weeks of a shilling, no talent hack milking a controversy with a toothless position. BTW… Donald Trump will be on the entertainment shows again, popping off about Rosie again.

Moving to another subject, marriage. Why is everyone hell bent on seeing Brad and Angelina get married?
becasue they are looking to make money on the story. You think it’s because they want the fairytale story? Please. Then it will be a whole new industry of stories of “Is there trouble in paradise?’ I have a hunch that if and when they do get married, it will be simple and special to them and no one will know till long after the fact.
Wal-Mart is not hell. Thanks to the Walton family many people including myself are saving lots of money on things that we must have for our family’s.
I shop at Wal-Mart at least 3 times a week.

While other stars partied on New Year’s Eve at hot spots from Vegas to Miami, George Clooney welcomed 2007 at home – in front of the TV.
“I watched The Wizard of Oz – a big tradition at my house,” Clooney, 45, told Jay Leno on Tuesday’s Tonight Show. He noted, though, it was the special edition of the film with Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon as the soundtrack.
PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive took a similar approach to Christmas, which he spent at the Mexican beach resort of Cabo San Lucas.
“I didn’t do anything,” he told Leno. “I went down south with a couple of my friends because we said, ‘We’re sick of Christmas.’ ”
In keeping with the theme, “Nobody put on Christmas songs and we didn’t celebrate at all.” But the atmosphere, he insisted, wasn’t bah-humbug “at all and we had a nice time down there.”
In lieu of gifts, “We put up a Web site for all our buddies, and just said, ‘Everybody has all you want,’ and said ‘What’s your favorite charity? We’ll give to that.’ ”
He did honor one tradition, however: the New Year’s resolution. “I quit smoking,” he said, prompting the audience to burst into applause. “It was that or give up drinking, and I’m not going to do that.”

Folks want Brad & angelina to get married so they can start writing the “when are they going to Divorced stories.
This coupling of Brad & Angelina has been a godsend to the tabloid media & entertainment shows. When the original Bennifer broke up, the tabloids and entertainment shows lost a cash cow. There were countless tabloid stories that they made up. I bet they knew for months that Brad & Jen were going to split…..one US Magazine reporter said as much on one of those “True Hollywood” stories shows on Brad….that you saw this everytime they went to a party….but they kept quiet as just writing that they split wasn’t as spicy as adding Angelina Jolie to the mix….The fact that reports of Angelina & Brad’s amazing chemistry was all over the place made it seem to me they were waiting to spice up this story with a “triangle” al Liz, Eddie & Debbie.

Walmart doesn’t give any benefits to its employess and takes advantage of illegal immigrants by paying them below minimum wage. It’s businesses like Wal - Mart that have contributed to the problem of illegal immigration yet they are never punished for their illegal business practices. They get huge tax breaks from the current tax laws in this country and yet the way they treat their employees is despicable.
Also, Walmart continously has taken to wiping away other competition and have created a monoply, especially in small towns where small businesses are trying to flourish. Because of Walmart, many small business owners have had to close their shops because they can’t compete with such a huge empire. It’s contributed to eliminating the middle class in this country.

What is amiss…. is we are NOT crazy people. We know AJ and her children are beautiful….we can tell from REAL pictures of them. We don’t need a painting depicting her as “saint or Semi-god” to tell us how beautiful they are. I can just see the “brangelunatic” labels peppered all over this thread if one…just one person had gone “Wow! The artist sure captured the true essence of who AJ is and she looks beautiful ascending into the heavens where she belongs”

Wal-mart is not hell nor is Angelina being depicted as a saint in Heaven. I think the artist was contrasting Angelina and the average mother in America. I don’t artist is putting down Wal-mart but just giving props to Angelina….a new and non-traditional mother.
Turn the lady in who painted it in for child pornography……mad should have some pans on.

I don’t understand what is so awful about this painting. I want to be clear though, I like it because its Angelina and the kids NOT because I see her as a saint. I admit I didn’t think any further than just to look at the picture and decide I like it. I don’t know why she/he painted it or what it means or what is going to happen with it and so on. I did wonder why Zahara and Maddox have nothing on. I thought covering them up a bit would have been nice, but thought they were not because they are “cherubs”. There was a similar picture on another blog a few days ago.
Anyways, I have been to vote for Angelina a few times and it appears several people have because she is in the lead now.
The painting is beautiful and creative.
Artists have rights to express their ideas and perceptions through their art pieces
as long as they’re not legally or physically harm other people, I guess.

It is just prejudice drivel dismissing people who shop at walmart as being gossipy, over weight, doing blah things every day! And what are some of us doing here? gossiping? Who on this board hasnt done a few blah things every day? And is everyone on this board model thin? It has long bothered me that other posters will criticize another by accusing her of being fat, or living in a trailer park. Oh the horror!! I dont understand all the hatred toward Walmart either. This store has given many in my area jobs, and also allowed poorer people to buy things that they need and want at lower prices. And this is bad, how? Sure it is easy for some of you in your upper middle class lives to complain and act all holier than thou. There are some not so nice people living in upscale apartments and kind, decent people who live in mobile homes. I somehow dont think Brad or Angie would make disparaging remarks towards someone based on where and how he lived.
Mom and Pop stores may not be as plentiful these days.. do to progress and free enterprise. I dont romanticize them. I love my parents, but they would make lousy business people.
No, I dont live in a trailer park.. I know people who do, though. And I am not exactly fat, though I could stand to lose 10 lbs. But I have people in my family who are overweight and I hate seeing them marginalized and dismissed because of that.
These are just some observations I wanted to make.
