OlderAngelina Jolie Reaches Sainthood
What would Angelina Jolie and her children — Maddox, Zahara, and Shiloh — look like depicted as saints, virgins, and cherubs? Kate worked out her own depiction of them on an 88′ x 60″ oil & acrylic on linen in a painting called “Blessed Art Thou.” Here’s how she describes the painting:
This painting addresses the celebrity worship cycle. The title, “Blessed Art Thou”, is taken from a line in the Catholic prayer “Hail Mary”: “…blessed art thou among women”. Our culture is deifying celebrities, but in the bible, it is the meek who are blessed, so the title presents a question for the viewer to ponder.
I chose a setting where the cycle begins: psychologically oppressive environments like this one are the source for the consumer, hungry for “information” about the celebrity. I am interested in the psychological ramifications of celebrity worship, particularly as they relate to class.
Angelina Jolie was chosen as the subject because of her unavoidable presence in the media, the world-wide anticipation of her child, her “unattainable” beauty and the good that she is doing in the world through her example, which adds another layer to the complicated questions about her “deification”.
The “Virgin” and Zahara figures are loosely based on a Van Dyck Virgin painting, and the Maddox figure’s pose is borrowed from a Raphael painting.
The artwork will be on display at the Chelsea Galleria booth at the Art Miami Fair at the Miami Beach Convention Center, January 5-8th. Kate will be at the fair Friday & Saturday.

My family works for Walmart, and they have very good benefits. I guess it depends where you live as far as the illegal workers perhaps. We have had no such problems here. Perhaps we should go back to horse and buggy days. Those horrible people in Detroit started the down fall of the blacksmith by manufacturing those awful automobiles.

There were countless tabloid stories that they made up. I bet they knew for months that Brad & Jen were going to split…..one US Magazine reporter said as much on one of those “True Hollywood” stories shows on Brad….that you saw this everytime they went to a party….but they kept quiet as just writing that they split wasn’t as spicy as adding Angelina Jolie to the mix….The fact that reports of Angelina & Brad’s amazing chemistry was all over the place made it seem to me they were waiting to spice up this story with a “triangle” al Liz, Eddie & Debbie

Wal-mart is not hell nor is Angelina being depicted as a saint in Heaven. I think the artist was contrasting Angelina and the average mother in America. I don’t artist is putting down Wal-mart but just giving props to Angelina….a new and non-traditional mother.

see, this is the kind of dicussion the artistic forms bring out in people, interpretations, dialogue. Is it disrespectful, or is it tongue-in-cheek, is it deep, well thought out? Or maybe the artist is really just a talented painter that just wants to make a buck. Art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, so’s interpretation.

Rosie’s on vacation but of course she did kind of reignite the “feud” she posted a poem comparing DT to a p.i.m.p even though it was a direct written attack towards him I view it more as dig at BW. When they’re on the show Rosie has to hold her tongue because BW says so but BW can’t control her blog. With the way that BW has handled this I understand Rosie’s frustration.
I actually pity Joe Scarborough because he lives for the tabloids when it comes to the Jolie-Pitts. In his mind their careers are over and that karma’s at work…what a poor delusional man. I don’t this painting is illustrating what so many have taken and run with. You don’t have to like the art but be fair and look closer. “Dig deep”.

Clever Angelina knows her man loves modern art - and has, in his collection, a smirking mug shot silkscreen of Steve McQueen done by English artist Russell Young. It’s very Warhol inspired. Since Brad is particularly fond of Young’s colorful work (and so are WE,) Angelina bought him two more prints from the celebrity mug shot collection. In our opinion she selected the cream of the crop - Sid Vicious and Frank Sinatra. We all know what Sid was arrested for, but we were surprised to learn that Frankie was arrested for “adultery” in 1938.
