OlderAngelina Jolie Reaches Sainthood
What would Angelina Jolie and her children — Maddox, Zahara, and Shiloh — look like depicted as saints, virgins, and cherubs? Kate worked out her own depiction of them on an 88′ x 60″ oil & acrylic on linen in a painting called “Blessed Art Thou.” Here’s how she describes the painting:
This painting addresses the celebrity worship cycle. The title, “Blessed Art Thou”, is taken from a line in the Catholic prayer “Hail Mary”: “…blessed art thou among women”. Our culture is deifying celebrities, but in the bible, it is the meek who are blessed, so the title presents a question for the viewer to ponder.
I chose a setting where the cycle begins: psychologically oppressive environments like this one are the source for the consumer, hungry for “information” about the celebrity. I am interested in the psychological ramifications of celebrity worship, particularly as they relate to class.
Angelina Jolie was chosen as the subject because of her unavoidable presence in the media, the world-wide anticipation of her child, her “unattainable” beauty and the good that she is doing in the world through her example, which adds another layer to the complicated questions about her “deification”.
The “Virgin” and Zahara figures are loosely based on a Van Dyck Virgin painting, and the Maddox figure’s pose is borrowed from a Raphael painting.
The artwork will be on display at the Chelsea Galleria booth at the Art Miami Fair at the Miami Beach Convention Center, January 5-8th. Kate will be at the fair Friday & Saturday.

You must be fair and admit that all of the chain stores do it.
Face it, Wal-Mart is not going anywhere. Many people, including myself, save lots of money shopping there, and that is what it’s about when it comes to the American consumer.
I agree that we in the US have become celebrity obsessed, elevating them to Gods.
So it is not Angelina’s fault that such paintings and commentaries spring up, it is the psychotic behavior of those who elevate stars to Saints and spend daily hours canonizing them and obsessing about their every move.
Imagine a thread obsessing over the refugee children of Darfur. Every picture of an abandoned refugee child in Darfur would be met with 1,000 posts of people wondering where they will be living next, what they are eating tomorrow, etc.
Why don’t we obsess about this?
Celebrity obsession equals Saint worshipping and we need to stop and rethink our priorities.
Angelina is not a Saint nor do I think she has any interest in being one. So her fans need to stop making her into one.
About this painting: legally the artist should not have the right to expose the genitalia of children, especially a child whose image is world known.
Again, the artist is simply playing into the ridiculous attention this family is being given.

Whether they SAY they do not see her as a Saint, dedicating hours in a day to a celeb, following their every move and their family’s every move, finding no fault in them thus finding them near perfect, elevating them and putting them on a pedestal is in fact the same ritual as praising and canonizing in religious sects.
In American society, we have elevated stars to Sainthood.
Of course those engaged in this behavior cannot know they are doing it for if they did they would stop.
Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie, and Lindsay Lohan get infinitely more press than a schoolteacher who does good, or a refugee child in Darfur, or a Public servant who does good.
That is a problem.
All I am saying is if we channeled all the enegery we spent on finding out where Angelina is spending Christmas, or whether she will show up with Brad at a premiere or what she is wearing and instead spend even an hour of that time discussing hungry children, we would do more good for humanity.
Angelina does this, why not learn from her? She said herself on Larry King she does not follow celebrities’ lives and never did even before she was famous.
Again, 1,000 posts on one woman and her family is a level of canonizing. let’s face it.
Obviously, Brad is God, as he is nowhere on the painting except for the light shining on … ???
It’s really sad how people make profit from others. By now, nobody has known that artist… Kate what? But now after this painting people start to pay attention to something that is in fact not art at all… but publicity for the artist.

Brad and Angie will probably laugh when they see this painting. Anyway, the artist has the right to express what she thinks of Angie, and people have the right to disagree. Bottom line is Angie will not care. She knows herself and will continue to do what she thinks is best for the people she cares about.

Moving to another subject, marriage. Why is everyone hell bent on seeing Brad and Angelina get married?
They said no they aren’t considering it, so why the push for them to get married. Over half of the population is not married, and half of all married couples get divorced in the USA. So why are so many wishing they get married and why all the tabliod stories about the “secret wedding”???
I was watching Showbiz Tonight and they are going to do a segment about 7 wishes for 2007. One of them is about couples they wish would get married and they showed Brad and Angelina.
Really, what is the fcuking problem. It’s one thing for everyone to give their opinion on these two, but what’s with the everyone demanding what they should or shouldn’t do. We can only comment, but from the tone from many people comes across as if though they think they have a right to have their voices heard regarding Brad and Angelina’s relationship.
Why does Angelina have to talk to her father? Why do Brad and Angie
have to get married? Why does a seven month old Shiloh have to be taken everywhere so the public can see her? Why does Zahara have to dress a certain way? Why does Maddox have to go to a school? Why can’t he have a tutor.
Sure, everyone has a right to comment, but it’s when the comments takes on a tone that Brad and Angelina have to do certain things because strangers deem it right, is when things get out of hand.

Hello everyone!This painting is a TOTAL publicity stunt for the artist and no I don’t like the painting.Let’s not spend the day arguing with undercover Susie and this Daisy person.I for one do do not look as Angelina as a saint.I see her as a example of how a person can turn their life around for the better,if they find a purpose in life.
