The O.C. Officially Cancelled!
We’ve been hearing this for many months now (perhaps longer) but word on the street is that Fox has “officially” pulled the plug on The O.C. in its fourth (and final) season. Big surprise because just yesterday, the pilot pickup season kicked off and a spy dramedy from The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz was given the green light by NBC. Josh, 30, will be delivering a high-concept action dramedy about spies (in the vein of Grosse Pointe Blank) called Chuck.
Josh will also be executive producing The Gossip Girl, which is supposedly going to be picked up by the CW. He’s going to be a busy guy, that Josh. But without The O.C. on his plate. At this point, we can only wish for great acting gigs for the cast. All of them.
Other pictures include The O.C. star Benjamin McKenzie arriving at LAX airport with friends on New Years Day.
UPDATE 1 :: It’s official! FOX just sent out a press release. The O.C. will air its season finale on Feb. 22, so that’s 8 new episodes to go with new episodes starting tomorrow. Read the full text after the jump!
UPDATE 2 :: Josh drops some spoilers about the series finale to TV Guide: “There will be a pregnancy. There will be a most unexpected new love triangle. There will be some new animals that need saving. There will be some hallucinatory dreams. And there’s going to be a fight for the love of a certain woman. And there’s going to be some surprises for the Cohen family, and some really big decisions for everybody to make. The finale is going to deliver real closure to these characters. It’s going to be the finale we had always planned to do.”
THE SUN SETS ON “THE O.C.”
WHEN THE SERIES FINALE AIRS
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22, ON FOX
The sun will set for the last time on THE O.C. when the series ends its four-season run Thursday, Feb. 22 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The countdown has begun, with all-original episodes airing from Thursday, Jan. 4 through the last episode on Feb. 22.
THE O.C. stars Peter Gallagher (Sandy Cohen), Kelly Rowan (Kirsten Cohen), Benjamin McKenzie (Ryan Atwood), Adam Brody (Seth Cohen), Melinda Clarke (Julie Cooper), Rachel Bilson (Summer Roberts), Autumn Reeser (Taylor Townsend) and Willa Holland (Autumn Reeser).
Set in Orange County, California, THE O.C. premiered in August 2003. It follows a group of friends and families whose lives were changed by the arrival of an outsider – Ryan Atwood – to their ocean-side community of Newport Beach.
THE O.C. revived the teen drama genre while including humorous and heartfelt adult storylines. Shortly after its summer premiere, THE O.C. was a pop culture phenomenon – its actors are household names and its indie music (and subsequent six soundtracks) and hip California wardrobe are sought-after in stores. The show’s Newport Beach locale also has become a popular tourist attraction as fans visit the real locations featured in their favorite episodes.
“THE O.C. Season Four finale will also be the series finale. This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close,” said Josh Schwartz, creator and executive producer of THE O.C. “Thanks to the hard work of our cast, crew and writers, we have enjoyed our best season yet, and what better time to go out than creatively on top. It has been an amazing experience and a great run. For a certain audience, at a certain time, THE O.C. has meant something. For that we are grateful.”
From Wonderland Sound and Vision and College Hill Pictures and in association with Warner Bros. Television Production, THE O.C. is executive-produced by Josh Schwartz, Bob DeLaurentis, Stephanie Savage and McG. Ian Toynton and John Stevens are co-executive producers.

Josh Schwartz had this to add: “Part of my quote from the press release that didn’t make the cut was “There has been some speculation about a Season 5 on another network but this feels like the best time to bring the story to an end”. They cut the other network stuff - but yeah, I felt better to go out now with the run we’re having then try and move the show, etc etc. and maybe not be able to deliver the same level of quality. Teen dramas have a shelf life. We’ve had a lot of parties on the show, and so I’ve learned, best not to stay too late. The ending will be fun and bring real closure to the series.” [via sepinwall]

“And crappy shows like OTH are still on air!”— coz obviously, OTH isn’t crappy, that’s why it is still on air. Don’t be a sorry a** looser just coz ur favorite lame TV show got canceled! I used to watch OC too but after I discovered OTH, i realized that it is 3x better than the OC and i knew that it wouldn’t last long!
only crap…
please say to me it is not true…
i can’t leave without THE O.C…
PLEASEEEEEEE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

cmon i know its sad and stuff but its just a tv show… your life will make sense even if it was your favourite show
good riddance. if you want to see snobby teens in unrealistic situations just watch mtv.
Well …
I’m Brazilian boy ,15, and here in Brazil I’ve be watched The O.C in Warner Channel … I can’t understand everthing about what is writen there, but I saw
the O.C is gonna be over !! but I didn’t understand when !! Will it has more season or not ???
Please tell me … give me a message !!!
Thanks Edinho
noooooo, whyyyy? i love the o.c. i can’t live if they pull it off!! my friends love it too!! whyyy? its my favorite serie what im going to do with out it??? (U)(U)(U)(U)
the oc is not really about snobby teens in unrealistic situations, not quite. it’s funny how many people who’ve never watched the oc think that, if they actually watched season 1… they would know *sigh*. the oc is relief in comparison to the crap on mtv.. can’t even compare.. now mtv programs- thats a bunch of junk without feeling!
and yes Mischa wasn’t the best actress but everyone else is great!
*edit* (to my post above)
“…if they actually watched season 1…” and afterward too to see how the characters developed. what I meant though is that season 1 was very well written and it made the OC a good show. i think that recently after the show’s gone down the drain a lot of people are seeing the OC now and never knew how good it used to be. And of course there’s always been those kids who think they’re cool because they bash the OC, and the squares who think the OC among other things are “after the children, oh the horror!”
why do all good things come to an end? :(
The OC is life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
maybe Adam Brody can go back to Gilmore Girls lol
when they killed marissa they killed the show….. hard to believe but it´s the truth let´s face it
que legal:D
I dont get all the people who are saying that killing Marissa is what killed the show, Mischa barton is a horrible actress and Marissa cooper was the worst TV character I have EVER seen.
If they would not have killed her at the end of season 3 I doubt if we’ll ever would have goten a season 4. And I’m sure the rating would have been much lower if she was on the show this year!
i can`t beleve!!!! this it can`t be real!! I lov the oc and i don`t want other soup i like that!! the oc is my life its so cruel
The OC is the best show 4 young teens u cnt cancell it
“”“(even though I can only really see Rachel Bilson and maybe slightly Adam Brody doing anything ‘worth while’).”
You are kidding right? Did you forget the GOOD actors on the show (Ben, Peter, Melinda, Kelly) when you typed this up? They’re the only ones who are going to do “worthwhile” acting in the future. Bilson and Brody will just disappear with The OC, because, you know, they’re a pair of the most average actors I’ve ever seen, and play themself in all outside roles. Nothing special there.”
Amen! Brody & Bilson are the least talented of the cast. They’re typical young hollywood - all about their image, have their own stylists, and they live for magazine covers and parties. They pretty much play themselves (their talent is questionable) and their looks are average (they make look gorgous done up but next to some actors & actresses out there they’re very average). They may mangae a few teen films but that’s about it.
Ben however is an Oscar winner in the making. He was excellent in Junebug and I’m sure he’ll be fantatsic in 88 minutes. Peter is already a star in his own right and I’m sure he’ll continue on to better projectes. And hopefully their experience with the OC has given Melinda & Kelly a chance to shine in a few decent movies as these two have got ‘it’. Screw the rest of them!
RIP OC but I’m not too sad. You sucked too hard for too long to get any tears out of me.
Some of us really don’t want the O.C. to end. How can 3 million viewers be wrong. Don’t lose faith cause we can save the O.C.
All I can do is to feel sorry. But, as It was sad b4, since Johnny and Marissa´s afair hapened, The OC sunset was starting to come true, becoming more and more obvious when Marischa Barton (LOL) died.
Above all this, I like OC very much and I just don´t think it´s fair not to count on audience from Brazil and other countries.
This really sucks… I don’t get caught up in show like this for this reason! If ya wanna watch a soap the best thing is to catch the ones during the day. Ya know they will always be there! I have watched O.C. since day one in 2003! I loved this show! It really is sad that it is being canceled! The last time I was hooked on a show that is viewed on FOX was when 90210 was on! Fox really sucks about cancellations! Well I hope that maybe The Cohen’s will go on to play in other shows on a different channel! I really enjoyed them! I tell ya a good show to watch… Nip/Tuck on FX… I guess I will stick to Guiding Light from 4 to 5p.m. on CBS and Nip Tuck on FX at 10p.m. during their seasons. I don’t think these two will be going anywhere for a long time! And they are great shows to watch! Good Luck to the cast and crew of O.C. You will be greatly missed by many people around the world! As far as to Fox, the only thing from here on out that I will be watching on your channel will be American Idol and when ya’ll decide to cancel it I will not be watching anything on FOX. I could have lived without American Idol, but this is extreme to take the O.C. off the air! Hopefully the people that run the FOX network will read all of these comments!
I’m soooo upset that the show is being cancelled after season 4… i guess everything has to end sometime, but it really felt like it was getting it’s magic back and was so much better that season 3.
I love what they have done with Taylor’s character and totally have a crush on her! It got really repetative and dark but her character has made the series lighthearted again!
I hope all the actors do well in the future :-)
ryan t adoro pues saluditos bye
OMG!! I cant believe they cancelled the O.C. It was my whole life. Every Thursday at 9:00 i say down on the couch with my sister and we watched every EPISODE!! I even BAWLED when Marissa died in that episode,, all because of EVIL, MEAN AND UGLY Volchuk!!! Ahh that totally ruined it! She was my favorite Character. I love you Mischa Barton. My new favorite Character now (even tho the show is canelled) is Taylor. She was a little wiotch before(InTheShow), but now she is sweet, nice and very prettayy!! The Cutest guy is Seth Cohen (Adam Brody). oh and catch him in his new movie “In The Land Of Women”,, coming soon to Theaters! Lol, haha , yes i know everything:p I LOVE THE O.C.!!
Just watched the finale ever episode. I had a few tears in my eyes, I was a loyal fan and watched every episode right from the beginning. I absolutly loved this show and am so gutted tha it’s all over- what a shame!
Gonna miss The O.C
