“EXTRA” correspondent Tanika Ray and Channel 11’s Emily Frances were in the lobby of the Beverly Hilton after Jennifer Hudson won her Golden Globe when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie walked by and Pitt kissed Ray, chiming, “Congratulations!” Had Pitt mistaken her for the “Dreamgirls” star? “I assumed he was congratulating me on getting one of the only interviews with [him and Angelina] on the red carpet,” said Ray, who is lighter-skinned and more petite than Hudson. “But honestly, I didn’t know why Brad Pitt kissed me on the cheek. It’s Brad Pitt kissing me on the cheek! Honey, I could care less why.” Pitt’s rep said he was on location and couldn’t be reached.

Brad Pitt certainly did his bit as a best supporting actor nominee at the Golden Globes this week.

He gave Angelina Jolie support, in the form of a helping hand - on several occasions, actually - at the awards event.

The pair were holding hands when they walked on to the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton, but then Brad’s hand kept slipping into - for want of a better expression - the default position.

The actor was nominated for his role in the powerful picture Babel, the movie that won the big prize for best film (drama). The exhilarating movie Dreamgirls won the best film (musical or comedy) award.

Later, when the show was over, Brad and Angelina chatted to Cate Blanchett, who played Brad’s wife in Babel. Once the Hilton’s ballroom had emptied, the couple walked slowly to the exit and Brad’s hands strayed into derriere mode again.

I would like to be able to say that I averted my gaze but, to be honest, I couldn’t.

It was strangely touching to observe that this much gossiped-about couple seemed so contented.

And at least Brad’s hands were warm when they walked out into the cold night air to make their way to Paramount Pictures’ after-party, a block away.

This article from Variety says that Brad’s Plan B will be one the producers of Johnny Depp’s new film. The film sounds amazing and also sounds like to me a future award nomination for Johnny! Thanks to intothegrinder from simply.brad

Director hitched to ‘Shantaram’

Mira Nair will direct big-budget Johnny Depp starrer “Shantaram” for Warner Bros. Pictures, with Graham King’s Initial Entertainment Group and Depp’s Infinitum Nihil producing.
Brad Pitt’s Plan B is a producer as well.

Nair’s arrival means the project –which may be Depp’s next starring vehicle after “Sweeney Todd” — is back on track after helmer Peter Weir dropped out last summer. Production is likely to begin as soon as this fall, with a possible 2008 release.

Nair will direct from a script by Eric Roth, who is adapting Gregory David Roberts’ tome of the same name. Novel is based partly on the author’s own adventures, according to publisher St. Martin’s Press.

In “Shantaram,” an Australian heroin addict escapes from a maximum-security prison and reinvents himself as a doctor treating the destitute in the slums of Bombay. His drive to procure medicine leads him into counterfeiting, gun-running and smuggling.

King said Nair’s “lush visual style’ lends an “authentic and vital eye” to the story.

Nair next will be in theaters March 9 with Fox Searchlight’s “The Namesake,” based on the novel by Jhumpa Lahiri. Pic is her first since Reese Witherspoon starrer “Vanity Fair,” released in 2004.

Most of her films have been about her native India, including her debut feature “Salaam Bombay!” and “Monsoon Wedding.” Other credits include “Hysterical Blindness.”

Initial Entertainment and Infinitum are producing through their deal with Warners (Infinitum is an Initial company). Projects in the works include “A Long Way Down,” based on Nick Hornby’s novel, which scribe D.V. DeVincentis is adapting, and “Bomb,” based on the book by Dr. Mahdi Obeidi, Saddam Hussein’s top nuclear weapons scientist, and American journo Kurt Pitzer.

Infinitum and Initial also are developing “Happy Days,” based on the novel by Laurent Graff. Terry Zwigoff is attached to direct from a script he will co-write with Jerry Stahl.

Thanks Lynn. I love Johnny, can’t wait to see this movie and I also will love to see him in a movie with Angie, the two of them are very similar and have this powerfull fire that will be aweome to see on screen.

Doing absolutely his best to remain relevant and in the news, Ryan Seacrest lashed out at Angelina Jolie on his L.A.-based radio show Wednesday morning for not fawning all over him during their interview prior to the Golden Globes on Monday night.

Per Whiny McWhinerson:

“I asked her four questions and she didn’t even answer me…I literally stood there and tried to ask a couple of questions.”

Well, which is it? Did you ask her four questions or “a couple?” And I guess he was going by the interview that was playing in his head, because tapes of the interview clearly show Angie answering Seacrest—obviously just not to his satisfaction. Then, again, how is one supposed to get giddy over such in-depth questions as “what did you have for breakfast this morning?”

Clearly thinking he can straddle both sides of the publicity fence, the American Idol host was quick to point out that “Brad was fantastic.” Yeah, I’m sure he’s happy with you, too, given the way you’re flapping your piehole about how mean his girlfriend was to you. I’m sure that put you back in his good books.

Seacrest’s radio co-host, Ellen K, came to Jolie’s defense, saying:

“Well, she has said that she finds all these award shows a waste of time and money.”

To which the big baby snapped:

“Well then, don’t go…Don’t do. Don’t go support your man. Do go.”

And had that happened I’m sure today’s broadcast would have been about the rampant rumors of a breakup.
