1) She got 1M per episode for friends. It’s 12 episodes per year. Friends ran for 10 or 12 years. But this 1M per episode happened only in the last few seasons. Therefore, this accumulation of 110M is not from TV friends.

2) Next, look at her movies. Think how much she made. She is NOT big name star like Julia Roberts. Therefore this accumulation of 110M is not from movies making.

3) Does she come from a rich family. Her parents were divorced. She was doing odds and ends job before becoming famous. Therefore, she did not get this 110M from family.

4) You may say Aniston accumulated her wealth from movies and TV friends combined . But if you look at Courtney, who is very similar to Aniston. She also get the same pay as Aniston. Courtney also did movies. But Courtney’s name is not in this Forbes list.

Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that Aniston obtained the bulk of her wealth through a divorce settlement.

bc, I was sad to report actually what I wrote. I would expect a net worth of $110 million, regardless its source, makes one think 1.5 billion living under $1/day today around the world, of people who have no other misfortune other than being born into the wrong side of the fence, of babies who die in staggering numbers today because of preventable illnesses. Consider the poverty you observe in this country: number of children who do not have access to health insurance, the efforts to increase minimum wage so people can earn a “decent” (not rich) paycheck or people who chose to live in cold houses during winter because a warm house costs too much, all the while reading that one person is sitting on $110 million in the bank.

The publicly available information on the amount and quality of JA’s donations is sad, just sad, especially considering the apologetic messages, “gives in private, does not tell anyone”, the ones that are deemed worthy of public information are just terrible.

I am not suggesting that they should be giving all, but given the resources (institutional, economic and social) available in this society, one would expect many of the echelons in the wealth distribution would at least show some interest, work for public awareness for the survival of the others. Unfortunately, JA does not cut to that “people concerned list”, in my opinion.

I am shocked when I read that. Considering she is so wealthy, yet the amount of money she donated is dismal. If I were Jen, I would be ashamed. If I were Jen, I would not even let the world know how rich I am.

The argument for me is BEYOND Angelina vs Aniston.

My HUGE issue is this: Meryl Streep should be making 100 million NOT the Olsens NOT Aniston.

There is a HUGE disparity between women who don’t play the game and the ones who are all about branding.

I like J-LO but the woman has no acting talent and no singing talent and has been in one flop after another.

Yet who makes the millions? She does.

I like that she is a successful Latina but why can’t Salma Hayek make her level of money or Sonia Braga or Penelope Cruz who is really talented? THEY ARE NOT BRANDS.

Same with Aniston and Bullock. Why doesn’t Hillary Swank, Judi Dench or Meryl Streep make their money? Why the women who are average and less talented?

Because men still reward women who are not threatening.

With the exception of Oprah, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts, so many women on this list are undeserving of their millions.

When Meryl Streep makes 100 million then we can talk.

I for one think that Oprah does not do enough, sorry but I think it was Forbes a while back that showed the percentage that these celebs gave and she gave 10 or 20%. That is NOT a lot out of a billion plus, all that does is reduce what she would have to pay in taxes.

Oprah should adopt because that is a far better legacy than some school thousands of miles away and visiting the students 2 or 3 times a year. Say what you will about Angelina and Madonna or Sharon Stone or Meg Ryan but they are putting their TIME into raising productive members of society, NOT just writing a check.

MS. O is also building a huge mega mansion in the Bahamas, taking up a whole damn island…who the hell is gonna live in that, her and Steadman and I guess Gayle? What a waste. It is dangerous (big word) to suggest that a billionaire should give up their ocmfy lifestyle in order to be charitable.

The same argument has been used against the Jolie-Pitts. People found it insincere to go from refugees to a house in Malibu.

Part of what allows Angelina and the likes to do charity is because they ARE rich.

Bill Gates does not have to give up his billions to give.

It is discouraging to tell rich people that they have to give up what they work hard for in order to be charitable.

I work hard for my money but every month I give to charities but I still don’t give up my facials and massages. I can do both.

Oprah can own an island and still send abused, impoverished girls to school for free.

Part of the beauty of philanthropy and of the American Dream. We suceed and set an example for others to do the same.

You don’t get it. my point was…why has this thread become a bashing thread? When I go to BAMZS thread, I have learned to scroll down and ignore trolls because of their hate and ignorance. Firstly, the main reason iam here on this site is because i admire jolie-pitts for all their humanitarian deeds. They are way richer than any of us here, but richness and wealth only makes sense when it is well spent. I’ve seen and heard of people who were millionAIRES and reduced to bankruptcy in afew years all because of their excessive spending habits. To spend money wisely is what finally matters no matter how rich you are. To strike a balance between donating and spending on self is a challenge on its own. If you worked hard to earn so much money then you deserve to spend some on yourself. And again to donate it takes a huge heart. But as one poster here mentioned, a lot of ladies who have made it to the top here are’nt very generous. Atleast it seems so. When a celebraty donates, it should make headlines because this is a huge inspiration to all their fans to start donating too.

I forgot who said it, but this not about the x and Angie. If Angie is making less money and donating privately or out in the open, the fact that she isn’t on the list should say something positive about her. Forget the x. She earned her money. There was no divorce settlement. Leave her alone, smirk, smirk, smirk.:):):) Just be happy that Angie still finds it in heart to give out of what she has. Do quesstion who is giving, and who isn’t. You may be right that I did not see your perspective on the point of bashing. But please try to see how the story you are celebrating by “more power to these women” is erroneous of and in itself. If we are to celebrate this story as it is, then other questions arise, with some answers not so pleasant.

1. Given the unfortunate structures in the society they are living in, do these “powerful” women are showing any kind of interest to these issues, at least in terms of public awareness? This is above and beyond the question of who is giving how much, it is also about who is shedding light to the problems. The total worth in this list is a drop in a vast ocean of the problems, but they have the power to turn light to issues that “they” care about. I would not write what I wrote if I did not believe that personal wealth brings also about public responsibility. Some wealthy people also seem to embrace the idea, a few unwillingly perhaps.

2. Assume that it is a personal choice to show interest to the problems in the society, so it is acceptable that some of the names (note that I am not singling out JA) in the list live the life of a plant in a pot; and still celebrate the money making power of these women. Even then, is it not reasonable to ask if they show any interest to the problems in the industry they are working on? Such as mentoring.

Giving away is not always about the beneficiaries because of pure altruism, it is sometimes about making sure that life after you will remember your existence at one point, so giving away may be selfish as well.

Try to see these points under the light that many women working in the industry are still being paid less than males. The way I see the list is very few names are actively engaged in doing some “public” good either because they care about their legacy or care about other people. So I can not just check their wealth and not ask, I wonder what they do to give back, especially if I am looking at numbers of the unfortunate under my finger tips every day.

3. And lastly, there was a recent piece in NYT about charities. The research has shown that “showing up in a gala, buying tickets, etc.” is the least effective way of reaching the target “poor/needy” population, mostly because in these event the organizations need to pay for so many overhead costs (rent of the place, etc). That may be the reason why wealthy people sincerely interested in philanthropy may be setting up their own foundation, less leak in the pipe.

Hopefully you also will get my point, sad but I see nothing to celebrate given the majority of performance regarding the points above of the women making to the list.

Although, i should re-iterate the fact that J K Rowling does a lot of donations too, especially for the multiple sclerosis foundation since her mother died from it at a very young age. I keep track on this woman because iam a huge fan of HArry Potter. Wanted to let you ladies know that some of these women are genuinely into charities and stuff like that although majority of them seem pretty selfish and self-centered. I know I have heard more than once that JK Rowling is the only writer who made it into the billions. Therefore I find this list somewhat questionable. I am a CPA and I know what networth is. Networth is Total assets minus Total Liabilities. Assets include property, cash, investments in stocks & mutual fundsand anything that will produce income etc. Liabilities are the debts. If you bought a house for $2M and had a mortgage on that house for $1.5M your networth on the house is $500T ($2M-$1.5M). Angie, though she has cash she probably does not own a lot of real properties like house, land, etc. Assets appreciate(increase) in value as time passes. It may also depreciate in value depending on the market. She might have invested in some blue chips like stocks in big companies that is publicly traded like Microsoft, Yahoo, Coca-Cola etc.

Britney is only worth about 35 million according to published recent reports. She lost most of it in frivilous lawsuits. She kept trying to sue everyone and their grandma and lost every time. 1) Not asking for spousal support is NOT an argument on how she got her wealth. In California, you are NOT awarded spousal support if you are working and can maintain the pre-divorce life style. She only made US$ 8 m for TBU, another US$ 10m all in all for her 3 other movies, thats like US18m, gross, deduct the tax and expenses to her agent, pr, etc., a little over half or even less of that goes to her. She is probably making US$ 5-10 m in Friends syndication gross, and only half goes to her, for 2005-2006.

They only made US$ 1 m per episode for only one year, prior to that US$ 750k and US$ 500k for 2 years year and I think US$ 250k and much less for the rest of 7 years. Only half of that or less goes to them after taxes and expenses. I know she had 2- 3 other movies before, but she only got like US$ 2-3 m per movie, gross. You guys are so wrong. Even though Angie gives 1/3 of her income away she is still a multimillionaire. Someone on here said she will never be rich because of her charity. She probably has at least 50 million and Brad has 100 million. That is rich by any standards. They own at least 4 multi-million estates around the world. I think it is great they give to charity and support human rights but they are not exactly cutting coupons and counting their pennies.

About Jen, she has supported **. Jude’s for over 10 years. She donates her time and money to them every year. Marlo Thomas has mentioned what a good friend Jen has been to **. Jude’s. Also there were 22 episodes of Friends per season not 12 like someone else stated. She made at least 50 million her last two years of Friends. Also, she got paid pretty well throughout the shows run which was on for 10 years. While CC and Lisa also got movies and endorsement deals, Jen always got considerably more. 1) I am glad you said Brad is the Mastermind of Plan B. This is exactly what every poster is saying. Jen is a partner-in-name only. We are NOT saying Jen did not support this venture. 1) Let me tell you, in California divorce law, whether there is another woman or another man is IRREVELANT when it comes to divorce in California. Property settlement is based on the terms of company, contract, ownership etc. The spouse having a girlfriend or boyfriend does NOT enter into the equation in awarding spousal support or property settlement.

2) In this case, Jen is a partner in Plan B. Legally she has rights as a partner. She does NOT get more rights whether the husband has a girl friend or not. Get this into your head.

3) You quote your aunt’s divorce case. Let me remind you, your aunt’s divorce is NOT the same as Jen. Circumstances are different. Your aunt may be a stay-at-home mom or a wife who put her husband thru med school. So what your aunt is entitled to is different from what is Jen is entitled to. Also, I dont know if your aunt also resides in California. Aniston’s circumstances are completely different.

Therefore DONT apply your aunt’s divorce case to Aniston. They are totally different animal!!!

You Jen fans are so hypocritical. You are not even human being. It’s one thing to love Jen, but it’s another thing to find excuses for Jen not to care for her mother.

As a mother, I am shocked at how you Jen fans defend Jen. It doesnt matter what went on between the two. If the mother needs help, Jen should step in. After all, you guys she is RICH, with 110M. By finding excuses for Jen, you are NOT helping Jen at all.

Let me give you a hypothetical example. A mother and daughter dont get along….leading to estrangement. We dont need to know the reasons. But if the mother falls into the ocean, is the daughter going to be standing on the deck , start thinking….hmmm….when I was 3, you did this to me, when I was 5, you did that to me….

Shouldnt the daughter render help immediately instead of letting her mother drown????

You obviously have a problem with someone who speaks their mind up in an aggressive manner…maybe it’s not your style and that’s okay, but Cliniqua is definitely one of the regular posters who is in touch with reality if anything. She’s factual, logical and organized, sometimes frustrated which is easy to become on a public blog…the direct approach for some may be “scarely sad” (your terminilogy) and you don’t need to read her posts if you find her style of writing “scarely sad” or offensive, but for many she is assertive and not “scarely sad” but highly amusing, informative and brave enough to post what is on her mind, some people find that an attribute as opposed to silently fuming and passive aggressive behavior. People who tend to be “scarely” about what is said by others should not get even close to a dark alley…and BTW the individuals who are the most vocal are not the ones you have to be “scarely” of in a dark alley…it’s the quiet ones.
