Oscar Roundtable: Brad, Leo, Helen & Co.

Oscar Roundtable: Brad, Leo, Helen & Co.

Newsweek sat down with Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Forest Whitaker, Helen Mirren, Penelope Cruz, and Leonardo DiCaprio for their Oscar Roundtable at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. Watch the videos here; check out the transcript after the jump! Two excerpts below…

How strippers changed Brad Pitt’s life: “Yeah, my job was to drive them to bachelor parties and things. I’d pick them up, and at the gig I’d collect the money, play the bad Prince tapes and catch the girls’ clothes. It was not a wholesome atmosphere, and it got very depressing. After two months I went in to quit, and the guy said, “Listen, I’ve got this one last gig tonight.” So I did it, and this girl—I’d never met her before—was in an acting class taught by a man named Roy London [a famous acting coach]. I went and checked it out, and it really set me on the path to where I am now.”

When Penelope Cruz knew she was famous: “One day I came out on the street for a walk with my dad, and somebody screamed from a car, “I love you!” And a minute later, somebody else screamed, “Whore!” [Laughter] Then I knew I was famous.”

What did your parents think when you told them you wanted to be an actor?
HELEN MIRREN: My parents were very against the idea, so I trained as a teacher for three years. I was a horrible, really bad teacher. I didn’t become a professional actress until I was about 22.
FOREST WHITAKER: My parents really wanted me to go to West Point—something practical like that. Ten years into my acting career they were still trying to get me to go back to school. I wasn’t making much money, and sometimes really struggling, but I was, like, “No, Ma. This is what I want to do.” Those were difficult conversations because I had my own doubts. It took me a long time to feel comfortable thinking, “I’m an actor. I can do this.”

Cate, is it true that your first acting job was as an extra in an Arabic boxing movie?
CATE BLANCHETT: I was at university studying fine arts, and I took a year off and went traveling. I had 2,500 Australian dollars, which is nothing, and I traveled for a year on that, so I ended up in places like a bunker in Istanbul with water dripping from the ceiling. Later, I was staying in this place in Cairo. I literally had no money, and some Scottish guy who was printing money and passports in the foyer said, “Do you want to earn five Egyptian dollars?” It wasn’t to sleep with anyone. It was to be an extra in this boxing movie, so I said, “Sure.” They had free falafel.
MIRREN: We’re all in it for the free food, actually. We are all, in our hearts, out-of-work actors.

It seems every actor, no matter how successful, thinks he’ll never work again. Do you feel that way, Brad?

BRAD PITT: Not really, no. [Laughter]

You all had some surprising early jobs before you became actors. Forest was a classical tenor. Helen was a sort of carnival barker.
PITT: I had a job driving strippers around.
LEONARDO DICAPRIO: Really?
BLANCHETT: Just last month.
PITT: I love her. Yeah, my job was to drive them to bachelor parties and things. I went and checked it out, and it really set me on the path to where I am now.

A stripper changed the course of your career.
PITT: [Nods] Strippers changed my life.

We’ll see that in the National Enquirer next week.
PITT: [Looks toward the ceiling] I just want one week off. Just one.

Leo, you made your first film, “This Boy’s Life,” at 16. What was that like?
DICAPRIO: I didn’t know how to conduct myself on a film set. The director, Michael Caton-Jones, really took me under his wing. He said things like, “When you’re rehearsing with Robert De Niro, you don’t talk about what baseball cards you’re collecting.”
MIRREN: I was like a rabbit in headlights for years on film sets, not understanding who was doing what, and how you’re supposed to behave. It is a terrifying environment, really.

Penelope, in “Jamón, Jamón” you played the daughter of a prostitute, and you became a sensation, and a sex symbol, at 17. What was that like?
PENELOPE CRUZ: One day I came out on the street for a walk with my dad, and somebody screamed from a car, “I love you!” And a minute later, somebody else screamed, “Whore!” [Laughter] Then I knew I was famous. It was unbelievable. I was 16 when I made the movie. I didn’t tell my parents, and I was hiding the script from them. Then they took my grandmother to the premiere, and I always felt bad about that. But the movie was good, and it did a lot of good things for my career. Every role I accepted after that I was covered up to here. [Raises her hand to her neck]

Leo, you became a teen idol at an early age also.
DICAPRIO: I had a brief run at that on television, being thrown on the cover of teen magazines, and I was trying to work away from that. I wanted to establish myself as an actor who put a lot of thought into his characters and did good work. And then I did a movie called “Titanic,” and there I was, right back into that position of being looked at as another piece of cute meat.
PITT: That you are. [Laughter]
DICAPRIO: It was pretty disheartening to be objectified like that. I wanted to stop acting for a little bit. It changed my life in a lot of ways, but at the same time, I can’t say that it didn’t give me opportunities. It made me, for the first time, in control of my career. But yeah, it was weird.

Brad, Hollywood wanted you to be a conventional leading man. You didn’t.
PITT: Acting is about discovery, for me, and these “leading man” scripts—Leo can testify to this—they’re all the same guy. You can plug any one of us into it and you get a variation on a theme, but anyone can do it. Where is the discovery in that?
BLANCHETT: So did you guys look to a relationship with a director to help champion the way out?
DICAPRIO: I definitely sought out the relationship with Martin Scorsese. It was important to me to find somebody I could trust. It’s a weird thing to put your performance in another person’s hands. We so often sit in rooms with directors and you hear their vision about a specific project, but there’s a huge difference between what they say and what actually shows up on screen.
PITT: Do directors want you to [play a version] of them?
DICAPRIO: Sometimes you get that feeling, yeah.
MIRREN: It doesn’t happen to women. You get to play their fantasy instead. But you know, [the industry] is always trying to put you in a box, and you’re always having to fight your way out of it. They don’t want you to grow up or grow older or change, so it’s great when a role comes up that allows you to take that next step. It happened with me on “Prime Suspect.” Suddenly I was allowed to look like a woman of the age that I was. I didn’t have to have glamorous lighting. I didn’t have to wear makeup. It was fabulously liberating, and it’s really why I’m still working, because I was allowed to step forward.

Forest, you’ve played roles that weren’t actually written for black actors.
WHITAKER: I had moments where the directors were open enough to let me do that, yeah. In “Good Morning, Vietnam,” my character was written as a nerdy Jewish guy. In “The Color of Money,” the character was originally a Yuppie.
DICAPRIO: Was it really? That character was stellar. I remember seeing you in “The Color of Money” at a very young age, going, “Who is this guy?”
WHITAKER: I was a replacement. They fired somebody, and I flew in and auditioned. That’s how it happened.
MIRREN: My husband [Taylor Hackford] directed … what was it called? Oh, God, I forgot the name of it. Famous movie with Debra Winger?

“An Officer and a Gentleman.”

MIRREN: Thank you. The Lou Gossett Jr. role was written for a white man, and Taylor forced the studio to cast Lou. Lou won an Oscar for it, in fact.

Which movie made you want to become an actor?
CRUZ: Pedro Almodóvar’s “Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!” I was 13 when I saw that movie. I came out of the theater completely fascinated. I started to become obsessed with Pedro, and I decided then to become an actress.
BLANCHETT: The only role I wanted to play was Lucy in “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” I also wanted to be Gregory Peck.
PITT: I remember sneaking into “Saturday Night Fever,” and it had a profound effect on me. [Laughter]
MIRREN: The first movie that caught my imagination was “L’Avventura,” by Antonioni. Until then I had seen only Rock Hudson/Doris Day movies, and I wasn’t into them very much.
WHITAKER: When I was a kid there weren’t a lot of black actors working in films, so acting didn’t seem like a possibility. The first actor I remember being struck by was Sidney Poitier.
DICAPRIO: I tried to get an agent when I was around 7. I was a break-dancer and had a mohawk, and I was rejected. I knew I wanted to be an actor, but it wasn’t until “This Boy’s Life,” when I was 16, that I started to research quality films. I remember watching James Dean in “East of Eden.” I said to myself, “Wow, I didn’t know it was possible to give a performance this good.”
PITT: Although you were extraordinaryon “Growing Pains.”
DICAPRIO: Thank you, buddy. As were you.

Leo, didn’t you get thrown off the set of “Romper Room”?
DICAPRIO: Yeah, when I was 3 years old. I ran up to the camera and started shaking it, saying, “Look at me!”

Dustin Hoffman famously asked Laurence Olivier once what acting was all about, and Olivier replied, “Look at me, look at me, look at me.”
MIRREN: I hate being looked at.
BLANCHETT: I think it’s probably “Look into me.” What we perceive to be naturalism or realism has been utterly eroded by so-called reality television, where people are performing themselves. But what we do, actually, is unmask and reveal what it means to be human, and allow someone in. It’s taken me a long time to allow myself to be exposed in front of a camera.
PITT: Acting is really a team sport. A lot of times one actor will become the MVP, but just like in tennis, your game is elevated if you’re playing with someone better. I mean, just look at the way Cate compensated for George Clooney in “The Good German.” [Laughter]

Are there roles that you look at and think, “I wish I could have played that”?
DICAPRIO: Tons. Burt Lancaster in “Sweet Smell of Success.” De Niro in “Taxi Driver.”
CRUZ: Either of the two women in “Terms of Endearment.” Carmen Maura in “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.” Shirley MacLaine in “The Apartment.”
BLANCHETT: Anything Elizabeth Taylor has ever done.
MIRREN: It’s not that you want to play the role; you’re inspired by it. It’s not as if you’re sitting there going, “Oh, I would have been better.” [Pause] Well, sometimes you are. [Laughter]
BLANCHETT: There’s a moment in “A Streetcar Named Desire,” where Vivien Leigh has just gone into the bathroom, and Marlon Brando’s banging on the door, and she opens the door and his hand flinches. It’s the most astonishing shot. This guy that Brando could have played with complete brutality, and [instead he shows] his vulnerability, in that hand.
DICAPRIO: I wanted to ask everyone something: we all talk about being “in the zone”—becoming our character—but there are so many technical things that happen when you’re making a movie, it’s impossible not to realize that there’s a camera there, and your character has to emote this specific emotion. Those moments where it all disappears, and you’re really speaking as this other person? I’m lucky if that happens more than once on a movie.
PITT: I find alcohol helps. [Laughter]

When you’re watching a movie, are you always aware of the actors’ technique, or can you get lost in it the way we do?
MIRREN: Completely lost.
BLANCHETT: Well, I didn’t get lost in “Battlefield Earth.”

Was there a role you’d wished you’d played that you didn’t?
BLANCHETT: I’ve been lucky in a way. In school I was tall and my sexuality was dubious. I was always playing men. And then my nationality has been dubious, having played Elizabeth I quite early in my film career. So I feel like I got some weird and wonderful choices.
PITT: [To DiCaprio] Our sexuality has been dubious as well. [Laughter]

Would you care to discuss that?
PITT: No, there’s been enough discussion.
BLANCHETT: We have photographs.

Was there a role that caused you more anxiety than others?
BLANCHETT: They all scare me. But I tell myself that anxiety is just misplaced excitement. You’re constantly risking failure, so I never watch the films I’m in. That way, I always feel like, “OK, that worked.” I had an experience on “Babel” which I’ve never had shooting a film. I thought, “God, that was a really great take.” And then I saw the film, and the whole scene was played on Brad. [Laughter]

Helen, do you know what Queen Elizabeth thinks of your portrayal of her?
MIRREN: Of course I don’t.

Has she seen it?
MIRREN: I’m sure. Who could resist? Someone who is very close to the queen, a great historian named Robert Lacey, said he thinks she would have said, as the credits rolled, “That wasn’t too bad, was it? I think I’ll have a gin and tonic.”
PITT: How did you start shaping her? She’s got this great fireplug walk, and your glasses were always halfway down the bridge of your nose.
MIRREN: Obviously there’s a lot of film on her, but it’s of her in her formal role—hardly anything behind closed doors. Playing a real character, you have to behave likea detective and see things that maybe no one else has. She’s unbelievably composed, but on the films I noticed that her thumb is always turning her wedding ring round and round and round. There’s this inner beat, this tension.

When you’re creating a character, do you need to find something external like that? Penelope, in “Volver”—
CRUZ: I know what you’re going to ask.

You wore a padded butt for your role.
MIRREN: I had a padded butt in “The Queen,” as well. It wasn’t just Penelope.
CRUZ: Oh, I’m so happy! Now every time someone asks me this, I’m going to say, “Helen had one, too.”

Did the butt help?
CRUZ: Completely. Pedro and I didn’t talk about it. Maybe a one-minute conversation. It just made me work in a different way, move in a different way. It was like finding the right shoes for the character.

You’ve all done some impressive accent work in your careers. Cate has done three different ones this year. Is it a hurdle to get over when you’re building a character?
WHITAKER: Accents help me figure out how to move, how to gesture. I think sometimes when an actor’s accent doesn’t work, it’s because it isn’t connected to the body.
MIRREN: Until you nail the accent it is paralyzing. You can’t act—you can’t do anything—because all you can hear is your voice making the wrong sound. What’s even more difficult is what Penelope has done. I think to act in a foreign language is the most unbelievably difficult thing. I can’t imagine it.

Penelope, your first English-language film was “The Hi-Lo Country.” Was that scary?
CRUZ: Oh, so scary. I didn’t understand a word [director] Stephen Frears was saying. He’s very sweet, but he has a very strong accent, and I only knew my dialogue for the character. I was always going to the bathroom to cry and coming back and trying to hide it.

Brad, your Irish Gypsy accent in Guy Ritchie’s “Snatch” is so great that we can’t understand a word you’re saying.
PITT: That was last-minute, night-before, full-panic mode. I kept trying to get the dialect—I probably started a little late—and it was just too stiff. I went to Guy the day before and said, “You’ve got to do this part. I can’t do it.” And he’s, like, “Yeah. Right.” But it occurred to me that the genius of what Benicio Del Toro had done in “The Usual Suspects” was that you couldn’t understand what he was saying a lot of times. So about midnight, I started walking around the North End of London, working on it and working on it, and it just kept getting more and more indecipherable. Thank God it worked.
BLANCHETT: I never think of accents as something that’s slapped on. It’s syntax and rhythm and breath. It’s about when people choose to pause, what words they emphasize. You can say it’s accent, but it’s actually thought process. It’s got to be organic. And I think the earlier you can start the better.

Brad. [He mimics being stabbed in the heart.]

MIRREN: You’re absolutely right. It’s not something that you glom on the top, as if language and accent are separate. Americans are always saying, “Oh, I love your accent.” I don’t have the bloody accent. You’ve got the accent. [Laughter] No, I never say that. I say, “Thank you so much. How sweet of you.”

Do you feel differently about your work than you did when you started acting?
PITT: When I started I had this idea that the films I did defined me, and that my life would be interesting based on the characters I’d chosen. I don’t feel that way anymore. I’m a father now. There are other things that are important to me. I was chasing something that wasn’t fulfilling. I caught myself on the phone the other day—Leo has been playing some real strong men these last few years—and I found myself saying, “I want to play more of a man.” I got off the phone and I thought, “No. Live like a man, and the movies will follow.”
WHITAKER: I had to learn to not divorce my life from my work. My work is a continual process of growth for me; it’s an expansion of myself. In the last couple of years, I’ve been taking things I learn about myself in my work and using it to be more completely there for my kids, my family, my friends. It’s flowing in a complete way. It has been a bit of an awakening.
DICAPRIO: Man, I’ve got to get some kids, huh? I only really started enjoying acting when there was a certain level of detachment from the end result. I remember being 15 and going on 160 auditions, and not getting a single role for a year and a half. I realized I was turning into one of those Hollywood kids: “Hi, I’m Leo! And I’m going to be reading today! Oh yeah, I had a great day at school! I love school!” [Laughter] I had become a product of this system where everyone is aiming to please the director, the casting director, whomever. So I started to think about the character—the work—instead of the result. You know, kids are always asking me what they should do to become actors. You give them the pat answers: “Study your lines. Work hard. Don’t give up.” But what I want to tell them is, “You have to not care what these people think about you.”
MIRREN: You were lucky to learn that at 15. Marlon Brando’s great acting advice was, “Don’t care too much.” I never understood that, because I cared so much, and still do. But what he meant was, let go of that total investment in “Are they going to love me?” “Am I going to be good?” F—- that. Maybe that’s what Brad is saying as well.
PITT: Yeah, but it took me 800 words to say what he did in four.

You’re all rich. You’re all famous. You’ve all received critical acclaim. Why work? Why keep acting?
DICAPRIO: I love it. There’s no other art form in the world that affects me more. There’s nothing that I walk away from feeling transformed by the way I do with cinema. There’s something so gratifying about being burned into celluloid and knowing that I can look back later in life and have stories about those experiences. It’s an amazing gift.
WHITAKER: It’s magic. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?
CRUZ: It gives me so much happiness to know that I will never know everything about acting. That fear of not knowing will always be with me, no matter what happens.
PITT: It’s the love for the story, and a respect for the business. I want to be better in it, and better for it. I’m still striving for that. And I believe in the power of films.
BLANCHETT: Krzysztof Kieslowski said that filmmaking is a conversation with an audience. When you’re connecting with other people, it’s utterly thrilling. I feel alive when I’m acting. It’s tragic, but true. I would die in a rehearsal room if I could.

Helen, what keeps you acting?
MIRREN: Money. [Laughter] And it’s incredibly good fun. Of course, there are some intense artistic reasons, but I’m not going to go into them. So, yeah, fun and money.

Hi Medi, how are you? Good to hear from you.

Kidi, I left a message for you on the last thread.

Excuse me for copying this post (1957 by ntt from Sin City 2 thread) but I just love what it tells us about Brad:
“The chemistry is perfect. Last summer, Alejandro Inarritu, the director of “21 Grams”, and of the upcoming “Babel”, of which BP is the star along with Cate Blanchett, told Paris Match:”One evening, after a day of shooting, Brad and I, we talked in his room. He was like a little boy who just discovered love. He told me how he fell instantly and passionately in love with Angie. That he regretted to hurt JA, for whom he has a total and sincere affection. But he could not resist. Angie makes him crazy.”

After watching the video clips from the Round Table, it occurred to me how often Brad says ‘I’m a father now.’ This man defines himself now by fatherhood - he revels, delights, basks, the whole damn stuff, in being a father!
But what I think is so revealing about this quote by Inarritu is that no matter how much Brad desperately wanted to be a father, and was drawn toward fatherhood by Maddox, it was Angie that ‘makes him crazy’!! Wow! Kaboom! Kabam! I love it! He just couldn’t resist her - it wasn’t about Angie catching him through Maddox, as so many critics have tried to imply!
I think maybe it is just easier (& less porno for sure!) for Brad to be able to publically acknowledge his delight in being a dad. Doing the same about his feelings about beingwith Ange might get them arrested!! (echoes of that wild sex in Kenya???)

Orange Peel @ 01/21/2007 at 4:30 am

They all look amazing…but man does brad look tasty!

I will also be buying a copy of this newsweek

Good morning.
Thanks #10 for reposting ntt #1957(from Sin City2.
Love Angie and Brad. Hope to see them at the Oscars.

Re-G.Dipandi must be a part of the bring” Angie down” campaign.Notice the names of players involved. DiPandi with X group in Mexico, is engaged to B.Rancic who works or worked for DTrump. Sucking to the boss? Remember DTrump made those degrading remarks about AJ during his LKing appearance.

Who is the next cohort to this mean pursuit??? DISGUSTING….

Good morning to all.

Mediterranean @ 01/21/2007 at 5:56 am

to NTT,

I feel better, not still fine but better. Thank alot for asking? How are you? Hope that all is OK with you.

I wish that I could have a chance to be around when Brad and George are teasing each other. It must be really funny. I have a feeling that Angie would take side of George just for fun. But Matt has to be there also.

It seems like Matt is getting closer to Brad and George than Ben Affleck who will be always his good friend.

haha….strippers and whores

oh Brad…”although you were extraordinary in growing pains” :D

Hey you guys!!!

Can anyone tell me the date of the oscars for this year????? Also hope to see them there or to see photos of them.

Thanks pp for the comment!!! I really find cute how Brad is always saying that he loves being a father that also means that he loves his new life with Angie and that he DOES NOT want to have another life with another woman.
They are so cute togehter!

Hmmmm, what did he say in the roundtable that makes you so sure?

I was sure because (1) there are just no photos of Brad and Angelina in any compromising position, Brad was even then, one of the most photographed man on earth. Jennifer and her Best friend said so - but more importantly David Arq said so when he said:

(a) he was surprised about the relationship between Brad and Angelina
(b) when he said “yeah, brad and jennifer wouldn’t have broken up but for Angelina” and then laughs and goes on to say “all joking aside …”

When I started I had this idea that the films I did defined me, and that my life would be interesting based on the characters I’d chosen. I don’t feel that way anymore. I’m a father now. Nice thread so far, I thought I would jump in and post b4, it gets nasty……….

Good Morning, BAMZS fans.

Just watched the video, and boy, do I love that Brad has this sense of humor. But didn’t Angelina say that he did have this wicked sense of humor? She knows him so well, and she’s only been with him two years.

Well, I better get my posting and lurking out of the way (even went to Mass Saturday) and so with household chores, so I can park myself in front of the TV when the Bears meet the Saints. I hope I preserve my sanity, knowing how Rex G and da Bears always made winning look so difficult and losing so easy.

====================================================
I think Ryan Seacrest is too full of himself to learn interviewing from the pros. His ego is too big, so he really shouldn’t be an interviewer but a celebrity himself. But then he really has no talent, so he pretends to be an interviewer, and E! lets him, while he strives to push himself as a celebrity.

Why? Last I checked, this is still a free country, with freedom of speech and all! You are allowed to show your biases, aren’t you? So why shouldn’t she?

Am also looking forward to the ball games tonight, esp. the Bear’ game.
Here’s something on our local sunday paper. Note Grossman and A.Brown were former Gators.
Grossman hopes the good karma spreads to Chicago.”I’d love to tap into that” Grossman said. We’ve got the No.1 baketball team, No. 1 football team. A lot of good things are happening with the Gators. We’ve got some Gators on the Bears. We’d like to continue that”.
Need I say, UF is rooting for the Bears.

When Penelope Cruz knew she was famous: “One day I came out on the street for a walk with my dad, and somebody screamed from a car, “I love you!” And a minute later, somebody else screamed, “*****!” [Laughter] Then I knew I was famous.”

=========
Yes I like what Cruz says also. Fame is a tricky thing. You will always have people that love and hate you.

I love the Oscar Roundtable Discussions, this is one of my favorite part, just love this part, tells you how far this man has come and grown, way to go Brad

Re-G.Dipandi must be a part of the bring” Angie down” campaign.Notice the names of players involved. DiPandi with X group in Mexico, is engaged to B.Rancic who works or worked for DTrump. Sucking to the boss? Remember DTrump made those degrading remarks about AJ during his LKing appearance.”

Let’s add the NY Post to that mix too. Her bud Bennetts is best friends with Liz Smith and then the Page Six crew are on speed dial with her publicist…hence the blind items.

I don’t think I’d ever read that Cate B had taken a bit of architecture course in college (which she says at some point here). Perhaps that explains some of the sympatico between Cate and Brad. Plus they do seem to get on, in a sibling way — cracking on each other, but with a lot of affection. Brad was adorable, and I am a serious Helen Mirren fan from The COok, the thief, et al. days. Imagine if you were one of those latecomers that she asked, “Where are you from?” I’d have frozen in awe and fear!

I agree, Brad’s GOT to go on Actor’s Studio.

I am keeping my fingers crossed, but BSA is one of the tightest categories this year, and I am not sure he’ll be nom’d — not that he wasn’t fantastic. Until Tues am, hope springs eternal.

(although if he gets nom’d, there’s a part of me that wishes AJ’d wear black leather jeans and a tee shirt down the red carpet and not talk to anyone. Then, because she is an Academy Award winning actress, she would change into something show stopping for inside to show respect in the proper atmosphere. Half the reason i think there were so many stories about her at the GG was that it was incredibly BORING. Nothing exciting was happening (Poor Isaac Miz having been kicked off for checking out ScarJo’s support garments — say what you will, but that red carpet was a thrill ride — what would he say next) so they had to manufacture excitement, and who sells more mags? I mean, unless handlers were going to allow (create) a carpet collision between Bennifer II and JLo/Crypt Keeper or Justin/Cameron(yawn me a river), what the heck was going to happen out there? Nada de particular. “This just in: Beyonce has unveiled her 2007 red carpet pose. Elbow up, armpit in the air. YOu saw it here first, folks” (what is with that pose. it looks absurd. whatever) So I say, Angie, you acted like a star/supportive partner at the GG; look what it got you. I say Oscar time, give ‘em the finger!

I’m kind of kidding, but really!

tabloids, I saw your post in the last thread, thanks. What I notice about people who hate Angie is that they live for the tabloids. So it’s understandable why they’d perceive in such a negative way but at the same time they’re clearly divorced from reality because she is so above Paris, Nicole and all of them. As Rosie said, she lives her life “above the fray”.

Since I’m on the subject of tabloids, there are so desperate for dirt and they really just reach even for non-controversial stars like Conan O’Brien. He, unlike some starlets, never does stupid stuff in public. There are handful of times where he’s been written about and it’s never “juicy” with one exception. Like they follow him to Barnes and Noble or he’s getting facials with his wife lol Usually, when he’s photographed by the paparazzi he’s out w/ his wife and kids and their dog in the park or at the zoo.

So the “juicy” story about him was ridiculously hilarious. It was about his “pizza addiction” :lol: Late at night, he leaves his home and his family to go cruising for the perfect slice and he comes home at ungodly hours still wanting a “hit” The way that it was written I imagined him in a dirty public restroom freebasing a slice of pepperoni pizza. Heaven forbid someone opens the door he frantically screams at them as his red pompadour shakes “DON’T LOOK AT ME!” :lol: :lol: Only a true idiot would believe that kind of crap.

I like these two interviewers, intelligent and professional !

hunnybunny @ 01/21/2007 at 10:27 am

That was a great watch - thank you Jared. I love that Penelopes first inspiration is one of my favorite movies and her comment about fame and one person loving you and the next thinking of you as a ‘wh*re’ was so funny and true- you can see that all over the net. There is so much nastiness written about well known people these days but their responses actually give me hope that intelligent actors don’t take either view too seriously, just keep going about their lives and work and staying true to themselves. No matter what their fans or critics want nobody can live their life for other people. Oh and I never saw the appeal much before but my goodness maturity is a wonderful thing- Leo is becoming more and more attractive by the day.

Pitt is trying way too hard to be funny. Usually i’m more of a Pitt than DiCaprio fan, but DiCaprio came off way more natural. Give it up Brad!

Brad is very funny. All these actors and actresses are smart, I like them. I hope Brad gets a nominaton.

Ahh…now I know your name Terassa Van Shitstirrer. It fits you to a “TEE”

Brad personifies humility in reverse proportion to his fame, celebrity power and wealth. Some movie stars can’t handle fame, some isolate themselves, some angry and prickly but Brad has managed to stay grounded, kind and true to himself. Consistently like Angie, his priority is parenthood . Brad is a man who knows what really matters in life.

Angie will wear something to die for at the Oscars, she does not owe anyone anything but to herself and her family. Love, love, love. the BAMZS

ANISTON THE HAG! @ 01/21/2007 at 11:12 am

Peeps! I saw the new issue of Hello Canada Magazine & they have photos of the Golden Globes & the People’s Choice. The Anuston’s picture at the magazine with Robin Williams at the People Choice Awards is not flatterring…the X really is fugly in the pic.

Thansk JJ for the new thread.

I’m crossing my finger, that Brad gets a nomination in Oscar.
I’m sure Babel will be racing for best picture. I wonder if Brad will be attending the Oscar, if he was not nominated in BSA .

Most of us who have seen the video can attest that everyone was into the lively discussion, Newsweek even said that after 2 hours, nobody didn’t want to end the roundtable exchange amongst hollywood royalty. But of course, some people who have precious time to spare and have nothing nice to say will comment otherwise. It must be so hard for these deluded and deranged people to accept that Brad is so much more of a man with Angie and their children and so much more of an actor and movie producer nowadays. Brad’s star never dimmed, it just got so much brighter!

[Fug Face Maniston] @ 01/21/2007 at 11:29 am

Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Forest Whitaker, Helen Mirren, Penelope Cruz, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Lets see if all those actors get attention on this site, and not just 1 person.

Oh Forest, I know you going to get the Oscar. Do it for all the underdog black people. Even if you dont, being nominated is Good-Enough.

Original Curious @ 01/21/2007 at 11:31 am

First off, Thank you JJ for the link to the videos! As per usual, my speakers don’t want to play them, but I’m forwarding to my husband’s so I can hear in detail.

I can just SEE them drowning in his clothes! You’ve got me on the edge of my seat as to what Rove will do….he’s such a bas*ard anything is possible.

According to MJP executive director Stephan Bognar, he and Jolie met with officials from the International Finance Corporation’s Mekong Private Sector Development Facility, a privately funded World Bank initiative that promotes economic development in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

In particular, Jolie is interested in a project to help subsistence farmers grow and sell bamboo, a business that, Bognar says, could increase their monthly income from $25 to $100-300. Bamboo crops also filter toxins from water and help stem soil erosion.

No kidding Isabelle. Yesterday, even though we already had the tabloid recap by PT, I stopped by the bookstore, just for some browsing, and every single one of the tabs have B&A on their cover, either full cover with X, or little cameos with just B&A at the premiere or at the GG. And most of them have big titles like:”Angie is jealous of X”, or “B is going back to X”. Come on, give the guy a break. It’s so damn boring already. The only ones that have unbiased articles, with great pics were People and Hello.
BTW, I think the little girl in these pics is the girl who plays the main character in “Pan’s Labyrinth”. If you have seen the movie, what do you think?

I agree. Do not spend your time hating. Be positive. I am sure this is what Angie and Brad would like us to do. I love Shiloh’s picture. It is right next to my screen.

I love the videos, but I can do without that snakes commercial being played everytime. That sucker creeps me out. Forest Whitaker is a thoughtful man. Everyone is raving about his performance in the “The Last King of Scotland”. BP is sooo going to get a joke rebuttal from George Clooney. Those two sure like to rib each other. Thanks to all the Saints supporters out there. Let’s Go Saints

Thanks Jared. I think Brad did a wonderful job. Not too serious but still showed what he all about and his love and respect for making movies. I watch The Actor’s Studio all the time and some actors that come on act like they are brain surgeons. All the actors in this roundtable did a great job. Can’t wait to read the article.

There is more than 10 years difference between Brad and Leo and I can’t help but notice how much younger Brad looks like. Leo after Titanic went into a period of hibernation and I am proud of him like Brad for coming to terms with his fame and fortune as an actor and celebrity. Leo has been a patron of Global Green and I remember him saying that he wishes for a marriage like that of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward that withstands the test of time and Hollywood.

OMG, I am watching Maria Bartiromo on Wall Street Meets Main Street, she was talking about the rebuilding of NO, about the Saints, and she mentioned B&A buying a house in NO. She also said she (Maria) will be reporting from Davos next week. No mention of B&A :lol:

I loved the videos also. Pene Cruz was so delicious. “I love you”, then one minute later “*****”. I love that. Haters can criticize BP for what seems to them lack of depth, but you know, none of the things any of the actors said on that panel was anything eye opening, even to a know nothing about acting like me, let alone to the people working in movie business, or to aspiring actors. I have heard them all, one time or another. Nothing profound, nothing new, from any of them. He could have easily go on a long tirade about acting, but that’s not the person he is. Nice to hear that from helping them sell bamboos it will enable them to be more self-reliant & become entrerpreneur themselves, thus in return make them give back to the society. It is an on-going cycle. Giving money is not enough, you have to teach & allow them to flourish & make use of their abilities, stand on their own & better raise their family.

They will learn how to manage their lives. You cannot just hand over money & leave them on their own. It is a known fact that a hard-earned money gives you the sense of accomplishment compare to hand-over money which in a short -time will be gone in a flash. I really admire that Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh & their future offsping will grow up not only thinking about their lives & their fufutre BUT also thinking about how to assist the less fortunate group of people.

Glad to hear that the World Bank privately funded this cause. And it was such close to the Jolie-Pitt clan that as a fan of Brad & Angelina it makes me proud of them more. I wish we can somehow donate money to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which maybe in the near future we could be able to since the foundation started just few months ago.

Lastly, since they will be in New Orleans for a bit while, could it be possible that Brad & Angelina will become the Grand Marshall of this years Mardi Gras. Wishful thinking, I guess. But is it true only native folks from Louisiana can only be proclaimed a Grand Marshall. I know that Britney Spears & Harry Connick, Jr was once Grand Marshall themselves. Any thoughts?

Another thing great about this part is how enthusiastic Brad seems about acting in the future. Four or five years ago Brad was discourage and was talking about leaving acting but now that his personal life is fulfilling I think it has put a kick back into his love for acting.

HI!
I wanted to point out how LOVELY Angelina was to
everyone from the BABEL crowd at the GG.
She was genuinely enthusiastic about their win.
We saw how they all like her, the same as
everybody else who actually knows her (we
have tons of evidence about that). EVEN her
father, the Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight, said
that she is a sweet and intelligent girl and that he
did not know why she acted differently at the time.

I do NOT think that DePendi (sp?) is out there to put
down Angelina and Brad (much less her husband!),
because it would be too cheap to sell her soul to
Aniston - so obviously (and she loses at the start).

I am glad that Angelina and Brad are doing their
thing no matter what. They do GOOD, there is
NOTHING negative about them.

GOOD will PREVAIL at the end of the day - with
EVERYBODY!
They are both beautiful (Angie is STUNNING!) from
the inside and outside. They have their adorable
KIDS as well, they are a REAL family.
We, the fans, can be only PROUD of them -
as people, actors and humanitarians.

AG said it best, if you are a regular lurker or poster , you just know their modus operandi. Unknowingly and ignorantly, the imposters are just wasting their time, effort and money. With that said, when we listen to Brad and Angie speak about their humanitarian causes, their movies and their commitment to family, we just know how good, kind and loving they are . Let us count the so many blessings coming their way both personal and career wise.

Observer2 @ 01/21/2007 at 2:07 pm

Brad has sensitive skin and he’s wearing prosthetics with glue on them for BB. When he was growing that beard for The Fountain, that was the reason why. He didn’t want to have to wear a fake beard due to the glue.

It’s my guess that his skin irritation/appearance is due to that. Cate B. even said so, that when they were doing wardrobe and makeup testing beforehand that Brad was getting exema due to the glue.

Leo, wishes, he’ll look as good as Brad in 10 years. The people coming t stir the pot, you’re not even entertaining anymore because you’re so predictable.

When Brad gets great press, here you are because you can not stand it. You’re routine is bored and stale because he really doesn’t give you anything to work with because all of your predictions just haven’t come true.

Now, go watch paint dry, as that’s most likely what you love most about your lives.

Ok, back to the little tidbits from Paris Match. Warning, this is all old stuff.
First the scans, from Absolument Jolie. Paris Match April 27, 2006, with the Namibia photo spread and the Inarritu quotes
http://angiejolie4.free.fr/presse/2006/04/fr-parismatch-270406-08.jpg

These are from June 16, 2006, with the first Shiloh photo spread.
“At the press conference on June 7th, at the Hassan Hotel in Swakopmund, B&A were even more beautiful, if that’s possible. In a black dress, with barely any male up, she was radiant, resplendent, knock out beautiful (No, I didn’t add anything of mine here :lol:). Sitting at her side, he sported the smug smile common to new fathers. With glances between them, like two accomplices, they conjugate the word “we” in all its forms:”We”, “us”, and “our”.
Shiloh has a MySpace site (not started by B&A) already with 192 registered friends, at press time.
The idea of a photo spread came from Jonathan Klein, a co-founder of Getty Images, who met AJ at a Global Business Coalition.
I don’t know how accurate this is, but they say that her co-star in Gia was also in Swakopmund with them. No mention for how long.
And that’s about it folks.

I agree that people who cross the line with racist and threatening posts should be banned.

But the rest of them should be IGNORED in a loving way.
I mean, the fact that they are here posting tells the world how important B&A are in their lives.
And fame, like Pe said in the interview, cuts both ways.

Nice move for Brad. At least they won’t be shelling out big bucks for hotel bills & stuff. And the kids will have room to play too. Smart indeed!

I’ve always thought Leo Dicaprio had some GC qualities going for him, no?

Cate Blanchett is a lucky, lucky, lucky woman….she’s worked with both GC and BP.

My first movies of Penelope Cruz was an independent movie called “Twice Upon a Yesterday”…..one of those “what ifs” movies. She was okay…still can’t believe she’s the same person getting rave reviews. Amazing.

I know Forest Whitaker…I mean I recognize him and know his name but I honestly can’t remember seeing any movie with him.

LOL, now I’m lost i don’t know what you mean. i wanted to say that in the video, Brad is saying so much more about why he changed his perspective on life and acting, but as a foreigner, I didn’t understand everything he said. I s***, I know lol.

This the part I’m talking about:

When I started I had this idea that the films I did defined me, and that my life would be interesting based on the characters I’d chosen. I don’t feel that way anymore. I’m a father now. There are other things that are important to me. I was chasing something that wasn’t fulfilling.

In the video he elaborates much more.

I don’t think that we should ban someone for saying that Brad has bad skin. As long as YOU believe your own opinion, it shouldn’t matter what anyone else thinks. I hope people aren’t so sensitive to cite conflicting opinions as an excuse to ban someone. Now if he/she had said any racist comments, threatened violence, etc., that would definitely be a valid point for a ban. But until then, I say leave it be and ignore. This IS a celebrity board and any celebrity is fair game to be ragged upon. Remember, anything said here will not affect Brad or his family, so no use in getting so defensive.

Leo is a smoker.

I truly hope Brad wins an Oscar for Babel,god and its dog can agree that he was ROBBED at GG!!
Thanks for posting this i enjoyed reading this,they all seem very content with themselfs.Cate is so intelligent!!!

“When I started I had this idea that the films I did defined me, and that my life would be interesting based on the characters I’d chosen.”

he totally stole that line from Angelina. She basically said the same thing once. Now she says her life is more interesting than any character she’s played. I think he’s more obsessed with Angelina than i am.

Brad had a tan because of the movie Benjamin Button. He filmed it in Costa Rica right before the GG, we even had pic of him shooting on a boat. The movie required him to be tanned. Hence the tan and this the end.

Original jpf @ 01/21/2007 at 2:45 pm

I’m watching a movie called BANDITS while waiting for the game to start ((((GO SAINTS…..even though I partially grewup in Chi-town….))))

…anyway, this movie has Billy Bob Thornton and Cate Blanchett in it and I’m thinking how BBT, CB, AJ, BP have all been connected somehow.

Cate’s acted with all of them
Angelina acted with all of them
Brad acted with Angelina & Cate and is producing a movie staring BBT
Billy acted with Angelina & Cate and will be working with Brad.

It’s like that Kevin Bacon game!

Btw, it’s so funny to hear Cate speak with an American accent after hearing what she says about it all being simply “syntax and rhythm and breath.”

jpf

Change is always a good thing. We change throughout our life, and it’s very sad if we stop growing. That’s a personal disaster. We can name at least one, lol, who is stuck in the past. I’m happy that Brad avoided this trap. He is constantly evolving, and he will be making very good movies, because he is talented and his life is so much fuller now.

Alot of actors have used the analogy that Brad did and long before Angelina ever said so.

Alot of them use the analogy when they have kids. That a movie better be a helluva lot more interesting than their personal lives, to get them to leave their home for any length of time. And yep, long before Angelina became a mother.

Maybe, Angelina totally stole that line from others?

The first woman Brad worked once he was single was Cate.All he wanted was Angelina

These actors and actresses at the Oscar roundtable are the cream of Hollywood. In my opinion Matt Damon should have been included, he had a great year too. Somehow he was snubbed at the SAG, the GG etc.

Observer2 @ 01/21/2007 at 3:35 pm

I think Brad puts it all out there in this interview, finally, in an American publication. He was miserable and it showed in the choices he was making. Brad was disillusioned and he talked about that years ago. He didn’t have any joy in his life. He was nurturing everything in his life, trying to find it. His production company, his architectural endeavors, he got more visible with his humanitarian efforts. He knew what would ground him and change him and that was having a family, but, when he knew that wasn’t happening, that’s when everything got tended to, except his marriage.

It’s interesting, that when he left the most unfullfilling part of his life behind, that his whole life exploded and fell into place. He began living an interesting life, instead of, living an uninteresting one with his ex.

The one big obstacle to Brad finding true joy was his marriage. It had to be hard for him to tell his ex that. I don’t love you anymore and I’m miserable here.

Takes alot of guts to walk away from the life you know and thought you wanted, towards one that is unexplored. And move forward and towards it he did. Brad said, he was going to make it happen and he wasn’t kidding. He went from it will happen when it happens, to, no worries, I’ll make it happen.

He became proactive, instead of reactive and it’s paid off for him in every way.

where is angie ryt now?she is with brad and the kidz already?miss shiloh

Golden Globes wins help smaller films
By Associated Press
Sunday, January 21, 2007 - Updated: 03:00 PM EST

LOS ANGELES - The dance flick “Stomp the Yard” retained its top spot at the box office for a second week, but a handful of small films were boosted by their success at the Golden Globes.

    The Fox Searchlight film “The Last King of Scotland” was the biggest beneficiary as the studio shrewdly expanded the art house film from four theaters to 495, anticipating a good performance at the Globes. The movie took in an estimated $1.8 million from Friday to Sunday.

    Forest Whitaker was named best actor in a drama for his portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. He also is considered a favorite for an acting Oscar.

    ”The marketplace accepted the movie,” said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers. “Having Forest Whitaker win for that key role really boosted the film.”

    ”Babel,” from Paramount Vantage, increased its ticket sales 500 percent from last weekend after the film, an ensemble piece featuring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, won best drama honors at the Globes.

    The film, which initially didn’t make the list of top 20 box office earners, jumped to 12th place this weekend with $2.3 million, according to studio estimates, bringing its 13-week take to $24 million.

    The Miramax drama “The Queen” also got a huge lift, jumping 233 percent from last week to the ninth spot after its star, Helen Mirren, won two Golden Globes - one for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in “The Queen,” and as Queen Elizabeth I in a TV miniseries.

    Another smaller film, the wartime fantasy “Pan’s Labyrinth,” from Picturehouse, a division of Time Warner Inc., saw its weekend gross jump 118 percent, moving it from 18th place last week to seventh place this weekend with $4.7 million.

    The film, from Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, has won numerous awards, although it lost last week in the best foreign-language film category at the Globes to the Clint Eastwood Japanese-language war film “Letters From Iwo Jima.”

    ”Anyone who is skeptical about the positive effect a Globe win can have on a film’s box office need only look at this weekend’s numbers,” Dergarabedian said.

    Many of the films are expected to be nominated Tuesday for the Academy Awards.

    ”Stomp the Yard,” which focuses on a step competition between rival college fraternities, earned $13.3 million, narrowly beating “Night at the Museum [trailer]” with $13 million. The comedy starring Ben Stiller has made about $206 million.

    The only film to open wide this weekend, the horror movie “The Hitcher,” came in fourth at the box office.

    ”The film is a little disappointing for us,” said Jack Foley, president of distribution for Rogue Pictures. “It opened competitively in a sluggish marketplace and I think it will stick around for a few weeks anyway.”

    Overall, box office receipts for the top 12 films were down 20 percent from the same weekend last year.

    Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

    1. “Stomp the Yard,” $13.3 million.

    2. “Night at the Museum,” $13 million.

    3. “Dreamgirls [trailer],” $8.7 million.

    4. “The Hitcher,” $8.2 million.

    5. “The Pursuit of Happyness [trailer],” $6.7 million.

    6. “Freedom Writers,” $5.6 million.

    7. “Pan’s Labyrinth,” $4.7 million.

    8. “Children of Men [trailer],” $3.7 million.

    9. “The Queen,” $3.7 million.

    10. “Arthur and The Invisibles,” $3.1 million.

We’ll see that in the National Enquirer next week.
PITT: [Looks toward the ceiling] I just want one week off. Just one.

I honestly don’t know what that guy’s been in other than FOOTLOOSE and JFK (he was GREAT! so creepy and swish all in one).

Btw AG, I saw an old Barbara Stanwyck flick and I had NO idea how much GC resembled a much younger then Raymond Burr. Now now, think about it, look him up before you throw that big heavy object at me (”feets don’t fail me now?”).

The Angler(hubby-loves fishing) says HI. Said he’ll leave the girlie talk to me but just give him a holler anytime yours and Cliniqua comments show up. Slowly he is warming up to Dragonfly’s comments too. If you all can talk fishing stuff, I’ll be out of my chair. ha ha….

+++++++++++

Hi Freidaflo - Say hi to the Angler for me! Sorry, but I’m not a big fishing fan. I used to like to fish when I was a kid but my brother used to get pissed because I’d never bait my own hook…yucky worms!…so I kinda had to give it up. But…I’ve got a friend who likes to fish. She and her hubby just headed to Cabo San Lucas for their yearly marlin fishing trip. A few years back SHE caught a huge marlin. It was over 6 feet long and I forgot how much she said it weighed. Her husband never caught anything as big and every year since then he’s sworn to beat her record…but he hasn’t been able to yet.

Oh Helen Mirren is a great actress!

Cate is a bit pretentious. and why did Penelope wear a fake butt? hilarious.

( trying again, jj!)
HI!
I wanted to point out how lovely Angelina was to
everyone from the BABEL crowd at the GG.
She was genuinely enthusiastic about their win.
We saw how they all like her, the same as
everybody else who actually knows her (we have
tons of evidence about that). EVEN her father, the
Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight, said that she is a
sweet and intelligent girl and that he did not know
why she acted differently at the time.

I do NOT think that DePendi (sp?) is out there to
put down Angelina and Brad (much less her husband!),
because it would be tooo cheap to sell her soul to
Aniston - so obviously (and she loses at the start).

I am glad that Angelina and Brad are doing their
thing no matter what. They do GOOD, there is
NOTHING negative about them.

GOOD will PREVAIL at the end of the day - with
EVERYBODY! They are both beautiful, from the inside
and outtside. They have their adorable KIDS as well,
they are a REAL family.
We, as fans, can be only PROUD of them - as people,
actors and humanitarians.

African Girl @ 01/21/2007 at 4:09 pm

I wish I was a sports fan so I can also go
Bulls 1 - Bears 0
But sports…except Soccer (The Real Football) and Tennis is something I’ve never gotten into. Wait….is Figure Skating a sport?

I was reading what the People’s website story said about Angelina’s trip to Vietnam. How the Maddox Jolie Project and the World Bank are trying start a project to help farmers grow and sell bamboo. The part that really made me sit back and think:

The project could raise farmer’s income from $25 a month to almost $300 a month.

This is what Angelina is all about and what she’s trying to do. Can you imagine living life on $25 a month and then having people assist you in a way that it could help you increase your monthly income 12 times as much. Being able to earn $300 a month is going to significantly raise the standard of living for these farmers and their families. I have seen lots of people living in extreme cases of poverty. In India, it was a part of daily life to see kids sleeping on the sidewalks or parents literally begging for food.

If some people only want to focus on how Brad looks or who’s copying who, that’s fine, but that kind of petty fighting will not accomplish anything. I think Angelina realized that and anyone who has seen people live in such extreme poverty will realize what really matters.

ITA, so true, and this is the main problem with funny stuff and the ‘other haters’.

Why is it that people have to pit two people, Leo and Brad, who obviously get along against each other. They are both very good looking and intelligent men. I don’t care who looks younger or older than who.

And when did youth become the measure of beauty. A person might look young, but still not be attractive. Looking young shouldn’t be the goal, being attractive at your age should be. I think that’s why you have so many crazy looking people walking around with all kinds of plastic surgery trying to perserve their youth, but forgoing real beauty in the process.

For example, young or old, Jennifer Aniston ain’t all that cute. She might look 25 to some, to some, but that doesn’t make her automatically attractive. I’m just using her as an example, because I always hear this, oh she looks young BS and I’m like so.

Brad Pitt looks better with some age on him IMO. He was always so pretty when he was younger, now he looks more and more rugged and manly and I love it. So does Leo. I like the weight on him. He looks like a man.

I’m a big fan of a man. I love them.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The thing that I love Cliniqua, is that he’s always saying he made a conscious decision to change things. He’s always taking responsibility for the decisions he’s made. He left his marriage with his eyes wide open. He pursued his life with Angelina with his eyes wide open. No one forced him or lured him. It was all his choice. The choices he’s made have given him the life he’s always dreamt of.

I’m with you, I know people don’t want her name brought up, but, Aniston has an ego. And I think that’s why she’s so pissed off at him. He left without unanswered questions. He knew that his life with her wasn’t working and it was up to him to make his life. And he knew the life he wanted wasn’t with her. So, he never regretted his decision to leave. He knew it’s what he had to do.

I doubt that Brad regrets too much of his life that got him where he is today. Be it good bad or indifferent. All of that brought him the life he has now. He accepts that and respects that and that’s why he was able to move on with gusto.

As Brad said, his wins are his as are his losses. He’s responsible for his life.

And to those that keep saying Brad’s getting older. So? It doesn’t bother Brad. He once said, he’d take character lines over beauty any day. With age comes wisdom. And Annie L. said it best in that Oct. 2006, Usa Today article when she said, sure the younger Brad was attractive, but this Brad is more so because he’s a man now with an inner life. And that’s attractive to people that understand the true meaning of beauty.

Ignore the haters - so far(last couple of posts) so good.

Cliniqua. Excellent post, and I do agree. Sadly, I just KNOW that out of a certain someone’s camp will come some passive/aggressive nuggat and I’ll forget all about the sympathy. *sigh* It’s happened SOOOOO many times.

I guess I should clarify my own Brad/Leo comment. I just never “got” Leo. Maybe I’m just too old. Honestly, he just leaves me cold. But that’s okay, I understand he’s a well respected actor and has earned his accolades, just like Brad has. I DO respect and honor his not wanting to go the heart throb route.

excerpt from people mag about Angie in Vietnam

……..In particular, Jolie is interested in a project to help subsistence farmers grow and sell bamboo, a business that, Bognar says, could increase their monthly income from $25 to $100-300. Bamboo crops also filter toxins from water and help stem soil erosion. …..

~~~
This reminds me of their trip to Costa Rica where they visited the bakery on Christmas Day. I remember they wanted to point out the success of the “micro loan” program. It’s a loan program to help refugees .It’s a loan and NOT a hand out and NOT just giving money to the poor people. The program is essentially helping the people, teaching a skill, in starting a small business, marketing, and magaging etc.
The bakery they visited is one of the success story.
I am so glad Angie is doing similar thing for Vietnam.
I was watching some of the videos…that snake things freaked me out. I love how Helen Mirren pays close attention to whenever someone else is speaking and nods along in agreement. Anybody would be intimated by her presence but she just looks like she’s there to listen and learn about the other actors as well. I don’t know why but I got the a different impression of her from reading the transcript, like she was being cold but she comes across as a much warmer person in the video.
Q: In your opinion, which breakup hurt Jennifer Aniston more: the one with Brad Pitt or Vince Vaughn? K.W., Anchorage, Alaska
A: No contest: Brad. Her romance with Vince was one part heart and three parts hype to promote The Break Up, helping that lame film top $200 million. If Jen, 37, still feels wounded, it’s from Brad’s high-visibility photos with Angelina Jolie and their kids. Jen Vince: She’ll survive.
Good points:
That movie made $200M – this must include DVD sales…now that is truly lame.
If she still feels wounded…hahaha
Producers Guild gives nod to ‘Sunshine’
16 minutes ago
Associated Press
The offbeat, dark comedy “Little Miss Sunshine” was the surprise winner of the top feature film award presented by the Producers Guild of America.
The film beat back tough competition from such films as “Babel,” “The Departed,” “Dreamgirls” and “The Queen” — all considered likely to receive Oscar nominations when they are announced Tuesday.
Comedies rarely fare well during awards season. The Producers Guild’s nod Saturday to “Little Miss Sunshine” was even more of a surprise given that “Babel” won the award for best drama at last week’s Golden Globe ceremony and “Dreamgirls” won the Golden Globe for best comedy/musical.
Marc Turtletaub, David T. Friendly, Peter Saraf, Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa, the producers of “Little Miss Sunshine,” were given the Darryl F. Zanuck producer of the year award. The film was released by Fox Searchlight Pictures, a division of News Corp.
The road trip movie “Cars” from Disney-Pixar was chosen by the guild as best animated film.
The award for episodic TV comedy went to “The Office,” while “Grey’s Anatomy” won in the drama category.
The Producers Guild honored the HBO special “Elizabeth I” its award for long-form television, while the HBO series “Real Time with Bill Maher” won for best variety television program.
The long-running news magazine “60 Minutes” won a guild award for nonfiction television program.
With this news, people that were wondering which movie will be the 5th nominated for Best Pic have their answer here. If one of the movies could get screw I think it’s going to be Dreamsgirls to favor one of Clint movies.
This came from Yahoo Entertainment News: I’m glad Babel is starting to do much much better now.
Golden Globes boost box office fortunes By GARY GENTILE, AP Business Writer
“Babel,” from Paramount Vantage, increased its ticket sales 500 percent from last weekend after the film, an ensemble piece featuring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, won best drama honors at the Globes.
The film, which initially didn’t make the list of top 20 box office earners, jumped to 12th place this weekend with $2.3 million, according to studio estimates, bringing its 13-week take to $24 million.
He left the Buzzards on the ground,to step up and Soar with the Eagles. Go Jolie/Pitts.
Hello BAMZS Fans!
The Oscar Roundtable video is fabulous. One of the best interviews I’ve ever seen. It was wonderful to see the respect each had for his/her table mate and to hear how each is so enthusiastic about their craft. Much respect to each and every one on the panel.
And to the haters: You just don’t get it do you? Ultimately whether Brad and Angie last 3 years or 50 years isn’t the most important thing at the end of the day, although I do wish them a lifetime together. What is most important is whether each is a better person for knowing the other? And from what I just heard in the video is that Brad Pitt is the happiest he’s ever been personally and professionally and my guess is that if his relationship with Angie was to end tomorrow, he wouldn’t change a thing about how he lived his life these last 2 years. The man has grown and has found a new purpose in life and he refuses to look back because too many good things are up ahead. I am his fan for life.
O2 - You’re smokin’ ‘em today! ITA completely again…nothing to add really except that I can never feel any pity for X because Brad gave her plenty of opportunity to change and she didn’t want to. She’s responsible for her decisions the same way Brad accepts his. The difference between them is that she refuses to accept the responisiblity for hers. And that’s what led to her smear campaign against him. It’s just hard to work up sympathy or empathy for anyone so shallow and self-serving.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Why thank you. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I don’t feel for her. She’s where she’s at today because of the choices she made. There are true victims in this world. Aniston isn’t one of them, she is by her choice. She wasn’t a delicate little wall flower that her life just happened to her. Nope, even while choosing to do nothing, that was still her choice to do nothing.
Aniston can’t take all the credit for her successes and none for her failures and that’s what she does. And until she takes responsibility, she’ll never make progress.
Brad has taken responsibility for the good, the bad and the ugly. Hell, this round table he riffs on Troy and MJB. Yet, he doesn’t say they were the worse experiences, yada, yada, yada. He riffs on himself.
That’s why I don’t understand why anyone still questions why he and his ex aren’t together. Considering the two very different lives that they’re leading, the question should be, how the hell did they stay together so long?
And to those that come in here with your inane comments, you can’t debate and people like Cliniqua make you uncomfortable because she hits a little to close to the truth.
Brad accepted and respected his part in everything, he said he had no qualms. The truth set him free. Too bad others still need to be introduced to it.
bluemoon - regarding SAG Awards and Sunshine - I think this is more a Brad Grey & Paramount snub than anything else. Apparently, there are some people in the business side campaigning for anything but Babel or Dreamgirls at the SAG due to BGrey - as these are Paramounts movies but make no mistake that Grey&Paramount has ante up their campaign for the Oscar.
I don’t think this tells the story of why SAG may want to snub Brad Gray & Paramount but a few days ago “Frenchy” left a comment about Gray’s behavior during the Golden Globes. A day or two later I found an article about what went down: LMAO
Brad Grey’s Performance Less Than Golden
Mogul earns scorn, not envy at Globes
By NIKKI FINKE
Wednesday, January 17, 2007 - 3:00 pm
In front of the cameras, this week’s Golden Globes awards broadcast was its usual sycophantic, self-congratulatory schmooze fest, during which mogul David Geffen was thanked more than God or mothers, and Borat’s Sacha Baron Cohen stole the show with genitalia and **** jokes that had tears running down Mark Wahlberg’s face because he was laughing so hard. But behind the scenes at the dinner tables, as the Hollywood insiders cut into their free-range chicken, Alaskan cod and marinated tenderloin of beef in the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton, the sharpest knives were being reserved for one of their own, studio boss Brad Grey.
The Paramount Motion Picture Group chairman/CEO should have emerged the object of envy when not one but two of his studio’s films, DreamWorks’ Dreamgirls and Vantage’s Babel, won. Mostly because the studio’s marketing team could quickly go to work plugging the meaningless awards to hype the two films’ box-office mojo. But instead, Grey was an object of scorn.
It started with the place cards on the two Paramount tables, both positioned prominently, one populated by Dreamgirls’ talent and executives, the other by Babel’s. Place cards? No one could remember a time when they saw this peculiarity at the Golden Globes. But they existed to obviously establish the pecking order of the people attending. “Brad seems very concerned at all occasions exactly where he sits,” one studio insider said to me by way of explanation.
First came Grey’s run-in with Jamie Foxx. The actor hadn’t planned on attending the Golden Globes, because he wasn’t a nominee and was on his way to Europe. But, at the behest of DreamWorks and Paramount, Foxx, at the eleventh hour, flew back to L.A. to introduce a film clip. But Grey decreed the seating plan was already set, preventing Foxx from bringing a guest to the Dreamgirls table. “You don’t do that to someone who’s done you a favor like that,” a source told me.
The next faux pas came when place cards called for Grey to be seated next to Eddie Murphy. But the actor wanted to sit next to Geffen. Janet Hill, the Paramount flack, went into a panic. But Eddie is, well, Eddie (ever the diva, even at this point in his roller-coaster career), so he was immediately accommodated.
As the cameras focused on the Dreamgirls table when the movie won, Grey’s grinning face was positioned right next to Geffen’s, the pic’s producer. (This, after Grey’s unfortunate hire — and just fired — number two, Gail Berman, wanted Jennifer Hudson off the picture. “She didn’t think Jennifer was any good in the dailies,” a source explained to me. Not only is Hudson considered an Oscar shoo-in, she has been receiving standing ovations from moviegoers.)
When it came time for the last Golden Globe to be awarded, for Picture-Drama, Paramount public relations went into another frenzy. Eyewitnesses were agog when Hill, who has considerable experience working for men with big egos (like Harvey Weinstein), ousted two people from the Babel table to make room for Grey so he could get that last-minute camera angle alongside director Alejandro González Iñárritu. Grey was also the only studio boss who went back into the press room and posed with talent. So, when the trades showed up on everyone’s desk the next morning, “I don’t think a photograph existed from the Golden Globes that Brad Grey wasn’t in,” one producer noticed.
Grey’s longtime friendship with Geffen is still chummy as ever — after all, Grey’s studio wildly overpaid to acquire DreamWorks, so why shouldn’t David be thrilled with Brad? But his relationship with DreamWorks’ head, Stacey Snider, has become strained. It didn’t help that, back at both the N.Y. and L.A. Dreamgirls premieres, Grey got up and made a short speech that didn’t go over well. “To be fair to Brad, he did speak for less than 60 seconds on each occasion,” an insider told me. “But, in New York, the entire Viacom board was in attendance, so in that way he felt obliged to be the master of ceremonies for their sake. Which was, um, unfortunate.” I’m told Snider muttered about it afterward.
But Snider was really angry when Grey told reporters that he would now be her boss after Berman was bounced. Grey described his role as “ultimate referee” for the heads of the four creative hubs that he said would now be reporting to him, essentially equating Snider, whose DreamWorks title is co-chairman and CEO, with Scott Aversano, the president of MTV Films/Nickelodeon Movies, and Brad Weston, now the sole president of production at Paramount Pictures, and John Lesher, the president of Paramount Vantage. “Brad made it sound like Stacey, and Scott, and Brad and John were all on an even footing. Of course, that’s not quite accurate, if you read Stacey’s contract,” a source told me.
Then there was Grey telling reporters he wanted to model his running of the studio on the way Warner Communications mogul Steve Ross ran his many music divisions. That kind of comparison doesn’t sit well in show biz. The reason is that Ross was a true Hollywood and Wall Street visionary and legend: He took a parking-lot company, turned it into the most successful entertainment corporation of its day, and then transformed it again into the world’s biggest media empire, Time Warner. Grey, on the other hand, was handed Bernie Brillstein’s already successful management/production company, while now he’s a hired hand answerable to Viacom’s Philippe Dauman and Sumner Redstone.
It may all sound terribly petty, and make no mistake about it — it is. But all this BS is what Hollywood uses as the yardstick to measure the character of its moguls. No one in town forgets that Geffen took Dreamgirls from a Broadway show to Hollywood over a 25-year span. So, David said from the outset of the pic’s awards campaign that he didn’t want to go onstage himself. At the Golden Globes, his pal and Dreamgirls’ producer, Larry Mark, made the walk to the podium. Whereas Grey is Brad Come Lately to the Dreamgirls project, since it was green-lighted by DreamWorks before Paramount even began negotiating to buy the studio. Maybe this wouldn’t matter so much now if didn’t follow the kinda crummy, sometimes brutal behavior Grey exhibited from the moment he took over. (And that of his subordinate Berman, considered a ***** on wheels by agents, managers, producers, screenwriters and talent, who all retaliated by complaining nonstop to the press about her until she was fired last week.) Grey wasn’t this way when he was still a talent manager: He was viewed as an ambitious but nice guy content to stay behind the scenes, even praised for subtlety and humility. No more. Take what happened to Donald DeLine, one of Hollywood’s most popular veteran executives: As Paramount’s production chief, he was on a London trip when a reporter called to ask how it felt to be replaced by Gail Berman. DeLine said the journalist must be mistaken — but soon found out that he had, in fact, been axed. It was an unnecessary public humiliation.
Now it’s Grey’s turn to be humiliated. With all those lips flapping about his boorish Golden Globes behavior. And all those news stories wondering when, not if, he’ll be fired. (Though I happen to think he’ll stick around for a while.) And Grey himself? He shrugs it off and goes about his business without changing one iota. For example: He actually had the nerve recently to battle hard for credit as one of the producers of the Academy Award contender The Departed, even though it’s a Warner movie and considered direct competition with Dreamgirls and Babel for Best Picture. When the Producers Guild of America didn’t back him, he fumed. Yeah, poor Brad only has that lousy studio job to fall back on. What’s that compared to the priceless value of more awards-season face time?
I know that angelina jolie is an exceptional woman/actor for doing something for people in need, there is no one out there in HOLLYWOOD I know or heard from that is doing what she is doing. I grow up in the Philippines and I know that not having that kind of money will surely get you enough food for a while. I’m soooo grateful for being here in the U.S.A to have something to eat and not having to worry what to eat tommorow. Angelina knows that helping those countries can definetly appreciate her, because for I am. Never judge a book by its cover because what counts the what ’s inside. Angelina does what she does because sh belives in what she is doing and she does not CARE what PEOPLE thinks of her. I APPLUAD HER FOR DOING THAT.
Trying to get down from the euphoric heights that da Bears’ winning has transported me to ….
I am so glad that Babel is gaining new legs from the reshowing. It will (hopefully) silence the naysayers who have harped on that it wasn’t a blockbuster like TBU, completely ignoring the fact that it was a subtitled movie with a complicated subject matter, not the usual popcorn fare.
Tabitha and Stardust - each studio has a movie it wants to win and as business as usual, each is campaigning for the coveted awards. i.e SAG, GG and ultimately the Oscars. It is simply competition at best. Just like fans,critics have movies/actors/actresses they want to win the big awards, the studios are also campaigning for their favourites and lots of background politics is at work.
However, I read on here a week ago, a story[might be qestionable??] in the LA Weekly by someone who was at the GG saying - BGrey made sure he was always in the camera’s view and that place cards for both Babel and DGirls were changed often. Also, there is more to Brad Grey’s move from WB to Paramounts that we are not aware of[might be true or false].
Maniston - that is the source but I didn’t post it because I wasn’t sure of its legitimacy.
Amen, sister, amen. I feel like smacking Brad upside the head and saying, “Damn…Putrid must’ve really did a number on your ass if you were in this big a funk for 7 years!” I’ve never really been able to wrap my brain around how he could’ve ever gotten involved with X in the first place. But…that’s water under a the troll bridge.
Maniston, thanks for the article, good read. As for Grey getting fired? that rumor is out for months now, who knows. Looks like he in fact has a big ego, but I wouldn’t put him in the same league as Harvey W.
Great interviews. I will definitely buy this Newsweek. Brad, a very very private person, seems to be revealing more and more of his feelings and thoughts, in each interview that he does recently. He seems to be so content and satisfied with his life today.
It is as if Brad Pitt was in a trace for years, just floating along, trying to find something to give meaning to his life. Then POW, along comes Angelina, and then THREE KIDS, and he was jolted to life. He is fulfilled, he is happy, he is enthusiastic, and he is operating at the most productive level in his life in all ways.
The naysayers can whine and bi**** all they want to but the facts speak for themselves. He is joined to Angelina and the kids with super glue. They refuse to be separated from each other for more than a few days at a time, they manage to make this happen no matter what they have to do. Angelina travels to Vietnam for a project dear to her heart, stays by all accounts for a few hours after a 18-20 hour trip, and then beats it back ASAP to Brad in New Orleans. Brad travels from India to LA for a BABEL premiere, a 18-20 hour trip, then beats it back ASAP to Angelina in India. Brad constantly speaks of his JOY in fatherhood, in his happiness at having a family, and he is just so proud of his family.
Brad cuddles with Angelina in public on the red carpet as he has never done before with anyone in his life, while they each look at each other with love in their eyes. Neither is ever far from physical contact with the other now when they are appear in public. They took time out of the public eye to build and cement their relationship and family unit before emerging into the glare of celebrity and publicity. They know what they want, and what they don’t want. They have each changed for the better in my opinion.
Brad says he likes to keep the brood close. Angelina has moved with Brad while he makes his movie, Brad goes to India with Angelina while she makes a movie which Brad produces. They bought a house TOGETHER in NOLA, not a Brad house or an Angelina house, but a Jolie-Pitt HOME for their family. They set up a foundation together, and share, support, and participate in each other’s interests. They are accepted as a family because they have managed, in a crazy mixed up world, to demonstrate love for each other and for their children, THEY ARE FOR REAL.
Isabelle II @ 01/21/2007 at 7:00 pm
Brad, Hollywood wanted you to be a conventional leading man. You didn’t.
PITT: Acting is about discovery, for me, and these “leading man” scripts—Leo can testify to this—they’re all the same guy. You can plug any one of us into it and you get a variation on a theme, but anyone can do it. Where is the discovery in that?
==============
that’s why __isn’t getting any parts, there are just too many actresses that can be “plugged” into the roles that she plays. She has niether the talent or courage to discover any other type of characters to play.
Oh, and, congradulations to the Bears *sigh*
I was just watching the collectors edition director’s cut of ‘Legends of the Fall,’ and MY GOD is Brad just iconic in that thing. I swear that film is his ‘East of Eden,’ he’s just magnetic. I love the part where he’s come into the barn carrying his saddle, he’s wearing that vest and those pants and boots, and sandy blonde hair is swinging…and out steps grown up Isabelle 2 (Karina Lombard), and he looks like the thunderbolt hit him. I bet he has that look with Angelina all the time. There’s one expression where he’s looking at Isabelle 2 or maybe the Julia Ormond character - can’t recall, and it’s with that same intensity he has standing on the balcony with AJ in that candid.
I’ve read previously that Karina has said wonderful things about Brad, and that she even commented on Brad & Angelina - encouraging Brad to be happy. She and Brad had chemistry, as did he and Julia Ormond.
ITA Grey is doing what he is suppose to do. To me, Brad Grey is behaving just like your typical CEO of a company. And for these folks, it is lonely there and thus, they are always going to have friends and enemies.
I don’t see anything wrong with what he did at the GG. As a matter of fact, he comes across as one who has mastered the art of sale. He definitely had a “sales mentality” at work at the GG and typically, that behaviour seem excessive and/or annoying. Hey, it is why people hate the telemarketers but you know, if there is one thing that these guys and Grey know - it is how to pitch and sell a product.
Hollywood on edge ahead of Oscars nominations
LOS ANGELES, United States (AFP) - The race for the most coveted awards in Hollywood enters the final stretch on Tuesday as nominations for the 79th Oscars are unveiled.
Most of Los Angeles will be fast asleep when the nominees are revealed at a 5:30 am (1330 GMT) ceremony, triggering the start of four frenzied weeks of studio campaigning ahead of Tinseltown’s big night on February 25.
Until now, no single film has emerged as the favourite to dominate across multiple categories, even though clear front-runners have emerged for the top prizes — best picture, best director, best actor and actress.
“There are definite favorites for most of the marquee awards but ultimately I think you’ll see the gold shared across several films,” said Tom O’Neil, a columnist with the Los Angeles Times’s theenvelope.com
In the best picture race, Golden Globes winner “Babel,” Martin Scorsese’s gangster drama “The Departed” and the musical “Dreamgirls” head the field with “The Queen” and offbeat comedy “Little Miss Sunshine” making up the numbers.
However, analysts believe that there is still a chance Clint Eastwood’s groundbreaking war drama “Letters from Iwo Jima,” shot entirely in Japanese, could enter the reckoning.
The critically acclaimed “United 93,” a fictionalized dramatization of the passenger uprising on one of the planes hijacked on September 11, 2001, is also seen as a possible outside bet.
In the best director category, Eastwood again could upset the form book. Scorsese, the overwhelming favourite to win this year’s award having been passed over on five previous occasions, is likely to be the first name on most voters’ ballots.
“Babel” director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is also a certainty for a nomination, along with Bill Condon of “Dreamgirls” and Stephen Frears of “The Queen.”
Although the husband-and-wife team of “Little Miss Sunshine,” Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, have been expected to make up the five nominees, analysts believe they could be bumped out by Eastwood.
The veteran actor-director is a perennial favourite with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’s nearly 6,000 voters, with two best director awards already, 1992’s “Unforgiven” and “Million Dollar Baby” two years ago.
And his unique achievement in shooting two war films back-to-back, “Flags of our Fathers” and “Letters From Iwo Jima,” movies about the same battle viewed from American and Japanese perspectives, has won many admirers.
“I’ve talked to so many directors who tell me how impressed they are by Clint Eastwood’s achievement doing two movies,” said pundit Pete Hammond of hollwoodwiretap.com. “They’re blown away by it.”
In the best actress race, Oscar-watchers are unanimous about the likely line-up, with three British actresses expected to figure.
Leading the British contingent is Helen Mirren, fresh from a double victory at the Golden Globes, and a nomination lock for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in “The Queen.”
Mirren is expected to be joined by compatriots Judi Dench, in “Notes on a Scandal,” and Kate Winslet, in “Little Children.”
While Mirren has been the front-runner for best actress for months, the claims of Meryl Streep for “The Devil Wears Prada” are gathering momentum. Streep — nominated an astonishing 13 times for an Oscar and a winner on two occasions — is seen as the biggest threat to Mirren’s chances, with Spain’s Penelope Cruz completing the quintet for “Volver.”
The best actor race is less clear-cut, with only two men viewed as certainties to earn a nomination.
Forest Whitaker is a safe bet for “The Last King of Scotland,” in which he plays Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. Veteran Irish actor Peter O’Toole is also a shoo-in to win his eighth Academy Awards nomination, for “Venus,” 45 years after his first, for “Lawrence of Arabia.”
But the remaining three best actor spots are up for grabs.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s anguished performance as an undercover police officer in “The Departed” could earn him a nomination but speculation has mounted that he may have to settle for a place in the supporting actor category.
Other contenders are Ryan Gosling for “Half Nelson,” Ken Watanabe in “Letters from Iwo Jima” and, a long-shot, Sacha Baron Cohen for “Borat”.
IMO, she looks gorgeous with or without the extra pounds. It’s not like she’s scary skinny right now. Plus, she has three children to run around after, so it’s only natural that she’s lost some weight since that picture.
BTW, did y’all know that one or two months ago, Angie did an interview with the Croatian Magazine, Gloria?? I just finished reading it last night, and until last night I had no clue she had ever done it!!
Rolling my eyes @ 01/21/2007 at 7:26 pm
Of course I will ALWAYS think Angelina is Gorgeous no matter what. that’s just the way it is for me, but I like her better with some weight on her.
Re Karina Lombard (Isabelle 2): Our conversation then wraps up with talk of another Jennifer, the much-discussed Jennifer Aniston. Lombard, who worked with Brad Pitt on Legends, understands the actor’s complicated romantic decisions. “Maybe society says, ‘This is wrong,’ but it’s his bliss,” she argues. “What we should be reminded of is to ask ourselves, ‘Am I happy? Am I fulfilled?’ He obviously loved Jennifer, but this isn’t about hurting anyone. It’s about following your heart.”
It’s so funny, everyone in Hollywood knew how absolutely GONE Brad was was for Angelina - it’s like a given when they talk about him, that he’s over the moon. That’s why these rags and bloids trying to hang on to ‘the triangle’ are even more ridiculous and manipulative. They think people outside the beltway in middle America are out of the loop, and so some of this crazy stuff might fly with fanistons and mini-vans. But industry people know how in love he’s been since they met - which is why you get all these cool comments from people like Karina, GC, Love Hewitt, Cate, etc.
Dr. Feel Good @ 01/21/2007 at 7:37 pm
Good Day my Good People,
I apologize for my absence this last few months. I have been working closely with a few experts in the mental field with the hopes of gaining more insight into the psche of Patient Alpha. Before I go into my findings, I’d like to take a moment to intoduce myself to the New residents of this fine establishment.
My name is Dr. Feel Good and I am the resident Psychiatist here at JJ. At first, I was brought as a consultant but after looking extensively into the case, I thought and everyone agreed with me that it was best if I became a full time doctor.
In the months I’ve spent observing, I have concluded the following about Patient Alpha or in lay man’s term “The Haters.”
1) Patient Alpha is evil pure and simple. This stems from having a childhood without love. Patient Alpha has an intense aversion to anything good, which is why she’s always spreading gloom and doom.
2) Patient Alpha has multiple personality. so far, we are aware of the
A) The Passive Agressive Little Girl (PALG) - who is characterized by childish, superfical posts. She talks about beauty, clothes e.t.c. Because she is refuses to age, she can’t understand why others do. When confronted, the PALG often times retreats bringing out the next personlity…
B) The Caretaker (CT) - The Caretaker is easily recognized because she always takes up for the PALG. More often than not, the first post by the CT is about freedom of speech and rights to one’s opinion. The CT never stays too long, her posts her sporadic and usually lost in the huddle. CT always gets mad at the lack of acknowledgment, this anger triggers the next personality.
C) The Trouble Maker (TM) - This personality is the most interesting personality. She is headstrong and brain weak. She seems to thrive on insults and abuses. We’ve established that TM is masochistic, which is why she can’t stay away from places where she’s is ignored and/or insulted. She sets herself up to be demeaned, ridiculed and humiliated. She enjoys the negative things thrown at her, it makes her feel alive.
3) Patient Alpha suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder hence her continious visits to places where she’s clearly not welcomed.
4) Patient Alpha also suffers from Tourette Syndrome characterized by the sudden outburst of words. These words are vulgar or inapproriate in a social setting.
Because of the varied symptoms Patient Alpha displays, it’s been very difficult finding a cure for her. Some doctors, out of frustration have suggested labotomy. Alas, this treatment is no longer allowed in the US. It is our hope that by publishing our findings on Patient Alpha, we can get enough people to march up to congress and the AMA and the demand Labotomy be reinstated even is it’s just so Patient Alpha can get one.
For those of you wondering if Labotomizing Patient Alpha is going to the extremes, I’d like you to know that it’s already established that she is incurable. You see, when asked why she continues to come here, saying the same things again and again Patient Alpha replied ” I want to change their minds, I want to to hate others like I do”. Her answer confirms the height of her madness, after all Albert Einstein said ” Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result”
Please feel free to Contact me or my Wonderful Assistant, Nurse Rachet (not to be confused with Nurse Ratched) should you have any questions or concerns. Thanks you.
Thanks Dr. Feel Good. I have been baffled as to why the psychotic pts. seen at our clinic seem to be more lucid than pt. Alpha (the Haters).
Your findings make everything clear now. Had pt. Alpha been compliant with meds. when first diagnosed, I believe you would have made some progress with treatment. Unfortunately, enough time had transpired with no med. coverage that this is no longer an option. LABOTOMY is definitely the only way out of for pt. Alpha. I say go for it Doc……
See “lobotomy”, you moronic products of the American educational system.
If you are a moron, you spell the word “lobotomy” incorrectly, indicating that you yourself need a “labotomy”
Angelina Jolie, The Most Attractive Woman of 2006
When it came to choosing the Most Attractive Woman of 2006, hellomagazine.com readers were clearly captivated by actress and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina. Famed as much for her dramatic looks as her acting career and high-profile personal life, the Mr & Mrs Smith star never fails to draw attention with her bee-stung lips and smoky-eyed glamour.
While her refugee role with the UN has her criss-crossing the globe to visit far flung corners of the Earth, thousands of miles from the salons and stylists of Hollywood, the mother-of-three never fails to look anything less than picture perfect. With her flawless skin and flowing mane of hair, the screen star has become an international symbol of beauty.
My Good People,
If it was Alpha’s true intention to correct the Good Doctor, she would have taken extra special care with her own spellings but she didn’t, instead she sets herself up to be demeaned, humiliated and ridiculed. This brings us back to the Masochistic tendencies attributed to The Trouble Maker Personality. As I stated earlier, Patient Alpha thrives on the negativity hurled at her. The best thing to do is to ignore her. Please carry on with your business.
Thank You,
Dr. Feel Good™
I hate the hello poll crap. Superficial crap! Angelina has more beauty on the inside and that’s what makes her so beautiful on the outside to me.
I know many BAMZS fans enjoy learning something new. Here is something about the Pilot Bamboo project that IFC Mekong River has started on an experimental basis. This is what the Maddox Jolie Pitt Project want to extend to Sammlaut.
Pilot Bamboo Supply Chain Project Shows Promising Results
MPDF’s bamboo supply chain development project in Thanh Hoa Province in Vietnam is showing promising results after the 20 month pilot which ended in September 2006, and support may now be extended for a further 3 – 6 months. Over 500 farmers have benefited from increased earnings from the bamboo they sell to a factory making flooring for IKEA, and additionally the project has stimulated the development of 10 village bamboo pre-processing workshops, creating 539 new jobs, and adding significantly to local incomes.
The project, partnering with the NGO GRET, has trained more than 1,000 farmers in techniques to improve yields of the bamboo they cultivate and do this in an environmentally responsible manner. The project supported the planting of over 500 hectares of new bamboo on degraded land and experimented to identify the most suitable cultivation techniques for local conditions. This also included identifying intercrops to grow among the bamboo and provide income during the five years it takes before the bamboo is harvestable. From 2010, the newly planted areas will (at current prices) generate an estimated $150,000 per year for 20-30 years.
In conjunction with an Asian Development Bank-funded viability study undertaken by the NGO International Development Enterprises, the project supported the establishment of two village pre-processing workshops. These workshops cut the bamboo to length and split it into the strips required by the flooring factory. The factory benefits from lower transportation costs as the bamboo strips comprise only 20% of the volume of the whole bamboo culms that were previously shipped. The factory also no longer needs to pre-process the bamboo itself or to dispose of the unwanted 80% of bamboo left after pre-processing.
At village level, the benefits of the two pre-processing workshops have been magnified by the independent start up of an additional eight “copycat” workshops. In total the workshops have resulted in the creation of 539 new jobs (83% ethnic minorities and 63% female) with incomes of at least $45 a month (as compared to the local per capita income of $100 per year). In total, local incomes from salaries have thus increased by over $290,000 a year.
The 80% of the bamboo culms not sent to the flooring factory are now processed into chopsticks and toothpicks (500 tonnes of these sold by August 2006) and the remaining waste is sold to local paper mills. Total sales generated by the workshops are now $280,000 per month.
According to MPDF’s Agribusiness Program Manager, Ken Key, the project demonstrates the potential benefits of bamboo to create jobs and raise incomes in rural areas where bamboo is plentiful but income earning opportunities are few. “In China, bamboo is now a multi-billion dollar industry ($5.6b), with much of the value generated in previously impoverished rural areas. Worldwide demand for bamboo is growing rapidly not only because it’s a much a faster-growing and more eco-friendly material than traditional timber for manufacturing flooring, furniture, and paper, but the plant has multiple uses that range from edible shoots to chop sticks, construction scaffolding and it can even be processed into fabric for clothing.”
Based on the success of the Thanh Hoa project and a recently completed study undertaken jointly with Oxfam-Hong Kong on the prospects for bamboo in all three Mekong region countries covered by MPDF, the Facility and Oxfam are now working on the development of a larger scale project to develop bamboo regionally. MPDF will also explore the potential of applying the lessons learnt from bamboo to other products with potential to impact rural income.
LYLIAN - Thank you for that informative article. This was what I feel is lacking in O’s girl’s school. Projects like the one you describe raise a people in less than 2 years, not a generation.
Julia-Thanks for the kind words. I admire this couple as they are really trying to just live their lives.
lylian-Bamboo is really being touted especially as a flooring choice in the US as it is eco friendly and its use negates the cutting down of trees and the subsequent deforestation that follows, like in clear cutting an area. Bamboo furniture is also showing up as an alternative.
The many practical uses of bamboo being touted today are interesting as many people who have planted it as a screen in their yards want to eradicate it as it spreads so fast and takes over an area, and find that it is extremely if not impossible to completely get rid of it. Well, one person’s weed is another’s prize winning rose.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Thank you Lylian for that article. What I admire most about Angelina’s charity work is that it helps on so many different levels. This Bambo project is going to help not only economically, but environmentally.
The way Angelina invests in a project that provides mutiple benefits is very wise. I was one of the people who questioned Oprah’s idea to build a school in Africa for those girls. What worried me was that sometimes people tend to focus on the details and lose sight of the bigger picture. What I do like about the Maddox Jolie Project and the Millenium Village Project is that it empowers the people on a large scale and encompasses many benefits. The main goal of this trip to Vietnam may have been to help these farmer grow bamboo and gain financially but this is going to also help the US. As the demand for the eco-friendly bamboo grows, hopefully it will help eliminate to some extent the need for the deforestation occuring in America. We can’t afford to cut down these trees. So to all those who ask why doesn’t Angelina help in America, well there you go. If her efforts in Vietnam help even in a small way to curb the need to cut down so many of the forests in the US, then it will benefit the people in America.
Original Curious and kk1, great minds think alike. I didn’t see your comments. I guess we all agree then. :)
that is so wonderful thank you for the link..
I love what they are trying to do for Cambodia in their son’s name and that they are both Co- Presidents. That is so cool.
I’m not a regular poster here and fairly new also to this site but what’s up with all the Brad/Angelina haters? I’m not a huge fan but to me, they are a lot real than a lot of celebrities and they are I believe honestly trying to do good things.
Great video, thanks Jared! Leonardo was in the same Oscar roundtable discussion 2 years ago when he was nominated for The Aviator. He’s always been a great actor (Whats eating gilbert grape, basketball diaries, Marvins room, etc) so its good he’s getting credit for that by a lot more people. It’s too bad some Brad fans have to knock Leo and vice versa. They are both great looking men, no doubt about it and hopefully Leo will look just as good as Brad when he gets to be his age.
Original Curious @ 01/21/2007 at 9:53 pm
4Q Thank you for the link to the MJP Project. I wish our government would help out the way the JPs do. Just think, then the world would love instead of hate us! There is a fascinating article in the current Vanity Fair (eh - I have a subscription) about Nigerian rebels trying to get something for the people. Unfortunately, they do it at gunpoint and with violence; but their complaints are much the same - ruin of the rivers and land - this time by the oil companies. I have to wonder what would happen if instead of propping up the corrupt government we went in with a Millenium Village idea to really help people there. One can but dream.
Lily -
Yeah, I agree if it’s a good idea to still talk about all those interviews.
People can take things OUT OF CONTEXT. Sometimes, if the translaton is not done correctly, it could be misleading.
Think and tread carefully. On the internet, you never know which side people are on. Sometimes, enemies can mask their identity .
Like BCBG said, it’s your decision. Since you’re so busy, you can step back and think about before doing so.
Peace.
on the movie “god grew tired of us”, it’s not bad, ony 2nd week of in theatres, it grossed 44,000 for this weekend in only 8 theatres.
I like doing comparison, “the good german” grossed 100,000 but in 6th week, and in 66 theatres.
I’m sure the movie will recoup it’s cost.
