Go BABEL.
cant wiat to see angie and brad again on the red carpet! sad thing is why isnst brad nomitaed for an acti9ng category!??? why!??? he should be! hs acting is superb!
Thanks for the head’s up Frenchy - just in time for lunch!
BBL.
Djimon Hounsou’s [Blood Diamond] role was so intense from Beginning to End he does deserves it.
I’m sure the Academy will reward him not only for this film but his body of work thus far.
Although BP’s work in Babel warranted recognition, I’m not surprised that he wasn’t nominated. For me, I think that his performance in Babel is something to build on and I have a feeling that parts like Richard were the very roles he was waiting for. So, not sad at all.
As for Little Miss Sunshine making the cut instead of Dreamgirls… I am glad. For me, the first half of Dreamgirls was great; the second half… not so much. And Alan Arkin in BSA… I just watched him in Wait After Dark and he was creepy as hell. In LMS, he was also good as the heroin-sniffing grandpa who gave inappropriate advice to his grandkids and to his daughter in law’s gay brother. I haven’t seen Little Children yet, but I am curious to see what Jackie Earle Haley did in that film. This dude came from the Bad News Bears and Breaking Away and disappeared… I want to see the performance that placed him back on the landscape.
I love Djimon Hounsou, especially in the movie, In America. It’s good that he’s getting recognition.
I’m telling ya, the BS actor category is going to be a horserace, for sure. Yes, Eddie got the buzz, but we’ve also got a veteran, another comeback story, a former rapper, and an often overlooked actor.
This could actually be an interesting Oscar year.
I am not watching the Oscars, unless BP is there. These people are so stupid.

January 23rd, 2007 at 11:23 am : Good morning… I am not sure if popularity contest is the right terminalogy. It does have a lot to do with the politics of Hollywood. Brokeback Mountain is an example of how the behind the scene industry politics made it possible for the film to win Best picture…Even if the other nominated films were far worthier.
I do believe Peter O’Toole should win the award.. Not only was he excellent in this movie, but for all the other roles that were Oscar worthy in the past. i.e. Lawrence of Arabia. He is probably the only one of his generation who is still living and should be recognized by his peers before he dies and not after.
I loved Dreamgirls… Jennifer is a shoe- in. I thought Eddie Murphy was outstanding and is deserving of the nomination and award. If one wants to look at the popuparity/merit issue, one should use Scorcese as an example. That man has been nominated 8 times previously and has yet to win one. Eastwood , a former actor is very well versed not only on what goes on infront of the camera, but outside of the stage.
The movie industry is a business. What counts is not critical acclaim but financial success. It is not so much about the talent of the actor/actress that seems to insure her/his success but who represents them…the agent and agency, publicist etc. It is a network and those of lesser talent (i.e. J.A.) who know how to play it can succeed where those of greater talent and no understanding and use of the Hollywood network path to success fail…
I can’t remember the name of the author/director but she wrote a book about the politics of Hollywood. “You will never work in this town again” I believe is the title to the book , it is what she was told when she crossed a powerful studio head . She is dead now, but she never was black listed by the industry….
Thanks Jared for the new thread. Disappointed that Brad wasn’t nominated, but I am happy Babel was nominated for best picture, and Alejandro for best director, and the two ladies for BSA; super glad that Djimon Housou was nominated and also glad that Jennifer Hudson was nominated as well.
How much you wanna bet that the Academy will try to get Angelina as a presenter this year? Brad can’t be one since he was on the list to be nominated but I’m sure the producers are nervous as hell about the ratings of the Oscars. They need some mega watt star power. Look at the nominees.

You might be right. Remember their ratings last year? They had the _, but the ratings went down anyway. No one was interested in her. But the Academy might be looking at the GG ratings, and get Angelina to present. Can’t Brad present with her? I didn’t know you couldn’t present if you were on the list to be nominated. But since he wasn’t, couldn’t he present instead, and with his lady love?
I am sorry but not interested in these people. Honestly BP was the only reason I watched the Golden Globes. BP is a power player and to be snubbed will hurt the ratings unless he graciously agrees to attend.
I WANT JENNIFER HUDSON TO WIN BOTH THE AWARDS SHE IS NOMINATED FOR!!! COOOOOME ON JEN!!! I WANT HER TO WIN FOR THE SUPP. ACTRESS AND FOR THE SONG - THAT WAY BEYONCE CAN BE EVEN MORE JEALOUS!
I don’t get it - why did Clint Eastwood’s movie about Iwojima get nominated for best movie when it was nominated in the foreign language film category for the GGs? Doesn’t the Oscars have a foreign language film category? Why if there is no english spoken in that movie can it be considered for best movie?
I think I agree with someone somewhere who said that Clint gets nominated so they can kiss his butt. What the hell is so great about him anyway?
I hope Brad and Angie go to the ceremonies to support Babel, but you never know. I don’t remember Brad’s name even being mentioned as a producer of the Departed at the GGs, and I wonder why that is so?
Congrats to Babel. It truly was a great movie with a great ensemble cast. Congrats to BP for being a major part of two great Movies, the Departed and Babel. Congrats to the two women of Babel, Rinko and Adriana. Their parts were heartbreaking and all consuming. Also congrats to Jennifer Hudson, she gives new meaning to “a star is born”.
And Leo was nominated for Blood Diamond rather than The Departed? Well, more of a chance for Forest!
++++++++++++++++++
I agree, he had better chances with The Departed, The envelope yesterday made a mention about this, since WB was the studio behind The Departed and Blood Diamond, most voters were confused with his campaing and lack of it actually. The Studio wanted to make profit of both films but in that process they kind of left Leo in a weird position. Plus he had the problem that some voters maybe put him in the BSA category and his votes split. With Brad some say they had the same problem according to the Envelope some voters put him in the lead category and maybe that’s why his votes split and since he wasn’t a favorite that made a impact. Plus is a fact that without the SAG nomination, he didn’t had much chance.
Dreamgirls, I don’t know too much hype maybe? but don’t tell there was some Clint ass kissing here.

The oscars is a popularity contest. I guess if Brad were still with Jennifer he would have warranted an Oscar nod. Or if Dreamgirls had been less black. Every year I am disappointed at the nominations. What happened with Matt Damon, who gave two great performances. I’m done I probably won’t watch unless Brad and Angie are going to be there.

Man that would be something but the two of them together would draw snickers. It would be like TomKat presenting together or Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson. It’s too cutsey even for that part of the American crowd that loves couples to do everything together. But they really need to bring in the big guns to make a decent program. Heart throbs like Leo & Ryan G can’t sustain a 4 hour show. I love Helen Mirren & Meryl, Clint and Peter O’ Toole but it’s already starting to turn into ‘Grandma’s Oscars”. No offense to anyone on this blog. They really need to spice it up with cool, hip, beautiful & diverse presenters. Just sayin……

I agree with you totally. I didn’t even see Dreamgirls, but I thought it was classic that Beyonce got snubbed at the GGs. She is really getting totally annoying lately, she thinks she’s all that just a little too much.
Perez is having a field day with her on his site about how she is so in love with her armpits because every picture of her lately is of her putting her hands up over her head and posing for the paps. Could she be any more over the top in her bid to call attention to herself?
Someone needs a helping of some humble pie.
That’s why seeing Jennifer win at the GG’s was so heartwarming, it was genuine and real. She’s just grateful for the opportunity, Beyonce thinks she deserves it and more.
Maybe she’s nice in real life, I don’t know - but that’s certainly the way she’s coming off in public.
Without Angelina and Brad on the red carpet or on stage as presentor, this would be just another blah like the SAG awards. No thanks…not watching the whole thing if B&A are not there. I’ll wait to look at the dresses on the Internet or the tabs while waiting at the checkout counter.

If the Oscars were a “Popularity Contest” Ryan Gosling would not have been nominated for Half Nelson. He isnt as Famous as the other nominees to many people. and that film was not seen by ALOT of people. He’s a good actor and its a great film
So i must disagree with you. [#5]

The Oscars may not be a popularity contest but it is far from being unbiased. As was stated in another article nominators for the Oscars try to steer away from being Golden Globes part deux. In almost all recent awards the nominations will be different than the Golden Globes.
Who goes to the stage and picks up the Oscar for the best movie and keeps it?

I am sure Beyonce will be happy for Jennifer Hudson if she wins. It’s papa Mathew Knowles I am worry about. lol
Watch out for Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunchine)!!!!
What a bummer for Brad. After all those crap about the GG RC I wonder if they’ll bother to go to the Oscars.
Since Brad’s not nominated I’ll be rooting for Djimon Honsou. I’m sure Maria will be happy her man got nominated.
Now, other guy that was having a respectable award season and didn’t made the Oscar nominations is Michael Sheen (The Queen) I see this one more of an upset than Brad’s case.
I think The Departed will win best pic and the runner looks like it’s going to be Little Miss Sunshine.

I am very disappointed BP didn’t get a nomination either, but hopefully like me you will support Babel because it was a great movie and it is an honor for him to have been in it.
Maybe someone with knowledge about the behind-the-scenes politics of these things can help out here. It seems to me that the best picture award is between The Departed and Babel. Babel seems to be truly a one-of-a-kind original film to me, whereas I think I read The Departed was a remake of a Japanese film that had been done earlier? So in that case it seems Babel would have the edge. But Babel was also a smaller, indie-type movie while The Departed was a much more box office, commercial success movie. Not sure how much either of these things figure into the academy’s decision.
I agree with you totally. I didn’t even see Dreamgirls, but I thought it was classic that Beyonce got snubbed at the GGs. She is really getting totally annoying lately, she thinks she’s all that just a little too much.

His father is the one I can’t stand, did you heard what he said after the GG? What a moron!
Oops I forgot The Departed and Leo D., I am Leo was nominated, and Martin S. for best director as well and happy that the Departed was also nominated for best picture, but I want Babel to win for best picture
The Departed = Infernal Affairs
have either Brad or Angelina ever presented at the Oscars?
