Oscar nominations are in!!! Although Dreamgirls picked up a total of 8 nominations, it failed to pick up a best picture nod. Babel scored 7 nominations, including Best Picture. The 79th Annual Academy Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live by ABC @ 8PM ET/PT. The “less important” nominations are after the jump!

The oscars is a popularity contest. I guess if Brad were still with Jennifer he would have warranted an Oscar nod.
If Hollywood awards depended upon all good press and a total absence of whiners like you most actors would be out of the running including your Jen. But she’s never been in the running has she.
I love it that Babel has 7 Oscar noms. I had a feeling Brad wouldn’t be nominated and I’m sure he didn’t count on it. Can’t wait to see him and Angie on the red carpet at the event.
Congratulations to Babel for the seven nominations.I really believe that this great movie deserves the Oscar for the best picture.As for Brad not being nominated i have to admit,i got a little disappointed at first because he is really,really touching in that role.But that’s ok,we have new films to wait that will probably get him nomination for “best actor” and then we will take our revenge.
As for those people who say that he now won’t appear at the Oscar’s,i have to disagree.Of course he will be there since his movie got so many nominations.And i’m sure that the producers of the show,will die to have him and Angie there,so i believe that at least one of them will be a presenter.
Even though he is not nominated,he and Angie will be again the stars of the night.And let the haters the next day express their jealously as loud as they wish.
Why do people think that Brad has to choose for whom to root for? Brad is very gracious….he appreciates his fellow actors input and whichever movies wins, he will be happy for whomever.
These nominations are actually a joke…you have the Devil wears Prada nominated and not quality films like The Good German, The Good Sherperd, where is Matt Damon?
Anyways the actors who are in this business for the craft know that an oscar doesn’t validate quality, exposure and more opportunities. Which is such a shame, coz there are some very good talents who have never been nominated or awarded.
I understand about people being depressed,disappointed. I was depressed when Denzel Washington didn’t win for [Malcolm X], he Lost to Al Pacino in [Scent of a Women]. But you have to understand the Academy. They have a Habit of Making it up to people who should have been nominated and who have been but didn’t win. Just like Denzel, he didn’t win for Malcolm X, but he did for Training Day, Training Day was a Good film, but far from his best work. A lot of Actors win for in that same situation.
I have no doubt in my mind, Brad will win for Best Actor in the near future. And with the type of films he’s now making he’ll probably win more than 1
I hope Brad and Angie show up…………………….
I really wanted Brad to be nominated because I wanted to hear his speech sooooo badly :) I know thats not a good reason to be rooting for someone, but…..
I haven’t watched Babel, so I’m not gonna say whether or not he deserved it, cuz I dont know, but I’m still kinda upset he wasnt nominated :(

Yes, it’s true the same happend with Paul Giamatti where he got truly snub for Sideways and the next year he got a nom for Cinderella Man. I was really sad when Adrian Brody won over Daniel Lewis, he was just amazing in Gans of New York.
Just a quick congrats to Brad for Babel-I think his best performance actually was in the unseen movie “The making of Shiloh!” His reward- “A little angel”-He’s quite happy with that-everything else is just cake! Also congrats to Jen Hudson. I now have 2 favorite Jens, Hudson and Garner!
Rock on Brad with your bad self! Love u to pieces!

The length of time an actor is in a movie has not stopped the Academy giving an Oscar before. Remember Judi Dench got BSA for about a 10 min appearance as Elizabeth 1, I think it was in the same movie as Paltrow & Joseph Fiennes (can’t remember the movie’s name). Dench was obviously a bit shocked she won, because she mentioned how small a role it was in her acceptance speech. Must have been a thin year!

It’s sad, but it happens all the time. But It’s no big thing, cause actors who deserve it will get it in the long run.
Just went & fed the chickens & remembered the film - Shakespeare in Love, the one GP got a BA oscar for as well. (I think it was the same movie!)

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — One might think Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett would be wary of deserts after the tragic circumstances that befall their married characters in the Golden Globe-nominated Babel. But both actors braved the sands once again to attend Saturday’s 18th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Pitt and Blanchett flew in from the Virgin Islands, where they are co-starring again in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. “We filmed all night, then wrapped about 6 this morning and got on a plane,” Pitt said.

Now on the day of the ACADEMY AWARDS we get the PRESS ANOUNCEMENT about what MANISTON’S ROLE WILL ENTAIL.
Really strategic timing Stephen…HUVANE is DELIBERATELY trying to have her occupy air time on the day of huge industry events.
Like, ‘Gee — ET will surely cover the Academy Award announcements today, this will insure that Maniston gets squeezed into coverage that features Brad in some capacity.’
Pathetic.
I wonder when we will know whether Brad will get producer credit for The Departed.

Oh please - stop saying he didn’t get nominated because his role was small. Judi Dench won for Shakespeare in Love and she was on the screen for less than 10 minutes. You guys will twist every word to suit your deluded fantasies. Grow up and get a life. Yes, get a life - this is the only site around with posts that take hours to research and write. Don’t you guys have any family members or friends (doubtful) who are concerned for your mental well-being?
I’m happy with all of the nominations - but I dont get the Jennifer Hudson love (didnt care for her when she was on idol either, that whole neck and eye rolling thing whenever she ended up in the bottom 2 or 3 got to me). Take away her singing, then her “acting” in Dreamgirls was just meh. If they want to reward her singing ability then give her a frickin’ Grammy. But since the category is for best supporting ACTRESS, then Adrianna or Abigail (or Cate and Rinko, for that matter) deserve the nod over her… hands down.
I am disappointed that Brad did not receive a nomination. Rose, your comments were great, and did take some of the disappointment away, but then how to explain Mark Wahlberg? I like him very much, but his performance was one note. He never changed, just remained the hard, driven personality, and his screen time was perhaps less than Brad. Bummer….
