I think this is what keeps AJ’s mind busy, more than anything said about her on The View, or on any gossip blog. It’s an article on this week’s Newsweek regarding aid workers in Darfur being targets of violence.

Darfur: The newest targets in the territory’s widening violence are the aid workers keeping its people alive.
By Rod Nordland

Jan. 29, 2007 issue - Last Sept. 11 was a momentous day in Darfur, too. After unidentified militiamen attacked aid workers from the Nobel Prize-winning Médecins sans Frontières at a roadblock on that date, most of the international aid groups ministering to Darfur’s 6 million people stopped using the roads. On Dec. 18, in the southern town of Gereida, unrelated gunmen attacked the compounds of Oxfam and Action Contre la Faim. More than 70 aid workers subsequently pulled out of the refugee camp there—Darfur’s largest, with 130,000 people—leaving only 10 Red Cross employees behind. Yet at the time no one revealed what had really sparked the dramatic pullbacks. In both cases, international staff, including three French aid workers, were either raped or sexually assaulted in territory controlled by the Sudanese government and its allies.

Rape as a weapon has become depressingly commonplace in Darfur, where 200,000 Africans have been killed and a third of the population have been sent fleeing into camps in three years of war. But the attacks on international aid workers herald a dramatic and dangerous new trend—the deliberate targeting of those helping to keep Darfur’s millions of refugees alive. A dozen staffers from foreign NGOs have been killed in just the past six months, more than in the previous two years. There are an estimated 14,000 aid workers in Darfur now, the majority of them Sudanese, working for foreign NGOs and U.N. agencies and delivering $1 billion a year in aid. Just a few more horrific attacks could throw that massive operation into jeopardy. Last week 14 U.N. agencies working in Darfur issued a stark warning that “the humanitarian community cannot indefinitely assure the survival of the population in Darfur if insecurity continues.”

Médecins sans Frontières country director Jean Vataux confirms that two MSF staffers, a Sudanese and a European, were subjected to a serious sexual assault on Sept. 11 after being forced out of their vehicle near Zalingei, in an area under government control. While the women were not raped, Vataux says, “there was a clear desire to hurt and humiliate.” The women were badly beaten as well. Vataux says MSF reported the incident to Sudanese authorities, who promised to investigate but so far have not reported any outcome. Action Contre la Faim’s country director Philippe Conraud confirms that two Frenchwomen working for ACF in Gereida were raped by armed men, but would not provide details. In the Gereida attack, aid agencies’ compounds were systematically looted, numerous vehicles stolen and staff terrorized at gunpoint for six hours.

The two incidents add to a pattern of increased violence since a peace agreement was signed last May between the government and some rebels. After that, rebel factions splintered further. In some areas, the government is working with rebel signatories; in others, it’s fighting them, and in some places the rebels are fighting one another. The version of the conflict that has seized the imagination of the world—and that prompted former secretary of State Colin Powell to describe the killing there as “genocide”—involved marauding Arab militiamen known as Janjaweed, often backed up by Sudanese military forces, laying waste to scattered villages. Now as many as 12 different groups are at each other’s throats, tussling over control of huge refugee camps or angling for their share of promised government compensation. On Jan. 10, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson announced he had brokered a 60-day ceasefire; so far, it has yet to start. “The ceasefire?” says a senior officer with the African Union peacekeepers in Darfur, who asked to remain anonymous for fear of offending Sudanese authorities. “That’s like the peace. We haven’t seen either.”

Assaults on aid organizations have wide repercussions. After a Dec. 8 attack on the International Committee of the Red Cross compound in Kutum, in northern Darfur, all but three of the international staff pulled out. Villagers driven from their homes by Janjaweed have since dispersed rather than seek refuge in the camp there. “We don’t know where 30,000 people are,” says Rebecca Dale of the International Rescue Committee. “Only about two or three thousand have shown up.”

Khartoum has pledged to give aid agencies unfettered access to Darfur, and has frequently boasted of its cooperation with the international community. Yet the NGOs say their workers, especially those from Western countries, are frequently denied visas and travel permits, while key equipment and supplies are held up in Sudanese Customs. And they cannot complain too loudly. “We can’t afford to be kicked out,” says Dawn Blalock, spokesman for the United Nations’ Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The stakes are too high: Blalock points out that the aid groups have managed to lower the overall malnutrition rate in Darfur below the emergency level of 15 percent. Without them, no one knows how bad it could get.

Those who speak out have paid a price. The Norwegian Refugee Council, serving 250,000 displaced Darfurians, was expelled in November to hardly a murmur from the United Nations. Late last year the U.N. secretary-general’s representative to Sudan, Jan Pronk, the highest U.N. mission official there, was thrown out by Khartoum after he complained publicly about continued Janjaweed attacks. He has yet to be replaced, leaving the U.N. mission leaderless. “The international community have been taken for a ride,” says Pronk. And yet again, the ones suffering most are the people of Darfur.

The Academy has decided which three producers of “Little Miss Sunshine” are Oscar contenders, while rejecting the request of Paramount Pictures chairman Brad Grey to be added to the Acad’s producer credits on Warner Bros.’ “The Departed.”
The trio for “Little Miss Sunshine” are David T. Friendly, Peter Saraf and Marc Turtletaub. Also receiving onscreen credit are Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa. Acad rules state that only three producers are eligible.

About 20 producers who sit on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ executive committee made the decision Thursday night, naming Graham King at the only producer of “Departed.”

The Producers Guild of America had earlier denied Grey credit on the pic. The Academy uses PGA decisions as a guideline, but reviews the ruling if the guild decision is contested.

Have you guys watched the Unrated MAMS DVD and the section called ‘Shooting in the Desert,’ they show how they filmed Brad’s shooting the ‘big shoulder rocket and the explosion’ scene etc., anyhoo - Angelina was there on the set that day and they’re watching the dailies of Brad’s blow ‘em up scene at this bank of monitors…and it’s Brad, some crew dude or producer dude who looks important and a bit older - a nice looking guy, who’s in a hat in the middle, and then Angie on the other side of him…

Anyhoo….Brad is drinking gatorade because he’s just finished that scene I guess - he’s cooling off, AJ has a can of diet coke…anyway, she’s looking at the monitors smiling, and then the nice looking guy says something to AJ and she laughs, Brad is more or less swigging his gatorade and I swear I get a STRONG ‘I’m going to pretend her talking to dude is not even bugging me’ vibe from him…lolol…

…but then you can see his eyes cut to Angie and the dude, and then the guy kind of half hugs AJ, and Brad is watching them like a hawk. LMAO

The date they gave on this is August 2004, so as we know Maniston was toast as even she’s confessed to, and I just think this was right around the time Brad was probably seriously sweatin’ Angelina, perhaps not in actions just yet (making passes and plays or whatever), but I DO think he was GONE for her at an insane level in his head around this time.

This is when he was probably telling Maniston about “his attraction,” (lol, thanks for the ‘reveal’ on this in VF Courtney, you dummy! lol).

As we know, it will only be a few more months before Man is not wearing her ring (November), and then the ultimate ‘official’ statement, in January that they’re kaput.

It’s just fun to watch Brad looking really distracted - I can just feel him zeroing in on her watching her pal around with ‘good looking dude in hat,’ gritting his teeth. LMAO

You do realize that just because two actors work in the same movie, doesn’t mean they share all the scenes. We have seen pictures of Brad working when Cate is not on the set. Not every scene requires that Brad and Cate both be on the set, you know. So they probably have different work schedules for the scenes they don’t have together.

You do realize that many times, actors decide not to go to award shows at the last minute because of conflicting schedules, don’t you? Jamie Foxx had to fly down at the last minute for the Golden Globes because they found out they had a seat for him.

So if they did have a seat ready for Brad, that means the SAG Awards wanted him there, but he couldn’t make it because he was working. What disaster are you talking about? Brad seemed pretty happy to me to be there with Angelina.

Just lurking and see some people are talking about Jennifer Aniston. I liked her on friends but never thought she was a great beauty. she has done a lot with what she has been given and obviously had some plastic surgery. Big deal, many stars have something done. Only thing that kinda urks me is how she denies it and how so many of her fans talk about her being a “natural” beauty, and then criticize other celebs for being phony. Oh, and I used to read a lot of articles about her during her friends years and many interviewers would make comments about her amazinglybeautiful eyes. the woman wears contacts, her eyes are not really that color! (Life and Style Mag has a pic of her from 1991, and her eyes are clearly not blue.)

yeah, courtney cox,hahahha………..nah, I don’t really believe Brad does Botox. I don’t think he is really a vain man. It’s the way in which people here defend brad and angie that disgusts me, not brad and angie themselves. Maybe you think that your ex still loves you and is just being forced to be with another woman? Is that it? You are waiting for Brad to go back to Jennifer so you can have hope that your ex will come back to you? Or is that Brad is happy with Angelina that bothers you because if confirms for you that your ex is not coming back to you either.

Why are so hung up on Brad and Angelina’s life if you don’t like them? Let them make their mistakes. If you are a fan of Jennifer, then go talk about her appearance on Dirt soon. But that’s the problem. You aren’t a fan of Jennifer. You are a fan of “The Golden Couple”, a facade that the media and tabliods shoved down your throat and you ate all up. Now you’re angry because you realize you were lied to.

Deal with your own problems. Stop letting your past rule your present and learn to acknowledge your own mistakes and then move on.

Why can’t you be happy that Jennifer is not with Brad if you think he made a huge mistake? Let him suffer by being with Angelina, if you think he is miserable. Shouldn’t you be happy that Jennifer is not with a guy who in your mind made a mistake by leaving Jennifer?

I’d love to hear Brad’s going on an on about his love for hs ex wife. Was it when he called their life together a journey and they’ll see where it takes them? Was it when he said he doesn’t know if it’s someone’s nature to be with one person for the rest of their lives? Was it when he said they had an extraordinary friendship, not an extraordinary relationship, a friendship. Was it when he said that his love for her changed shape? Or with his press with Babel, where he’s made it very clear that his life had no meaning, he was incredibly unfullifilled and he was looking for purpose before Angelina and their kids? What in all of that screams, I’m so happy with my ex wife.

Regret would entail him looking back and since Brad made track marks on Aniston’s face because he couldn’t get away from her quick enough, hence all of her new face work, because the face tracks were becoming too obvious.

Where’s the love? Yet, with Angelina and their kids he says, he doesn’t need anything else, he’s happy right where he’s at. What most likely happened is that Brad was invited to present and of course, he was invited due to his pic getting the best ensemble nomination and Brad just gave his RSVP that he won’t be there. The SAG’s shouldn’t have tooted their own horn that he’d be there when it wasn’t a definite yet.

I think I am sensitive right now because we have just seen similar mean intentions, disguised as a column, written by that creature for the NYT. After reading this I felt sympathy toward X, but that article was way before she connived to get Brad to marry her, then did what she did to him. I LIKED her once upon a time! I LIKED Friends! But she turned so many of us against her because she married a genuine star, then tried to outshine him, even if it meant cutting him down from time to time. Both Brad and Aniston made all kinds of statements that were clues to their less-than-true-love marriage, well before Angelina. They each married someone they were comfortable with, and it didn’t work. God bless Brad, he did the best he could. He tried, and when she didn’t meet him even half-way, he was smart enough to get out. I am so glad Angie was there for him. Who else could possibly have been a match for him, should Billy Bob have taken on the role of father for Maddox, making that marriage work? Who? NO one else! Hey no prob. didn’t see it as ranting. I really enjoy reading the posts on here.
I found the interview amusing because if she had just been honest instead of trying to say the ‘right thing’ the interview would have been better for her. A bit silly to lie about ‘making several endings’ for the film being discussed simply because the interviewer said the ending was a cop-out and sit-comish. It was interesting to compare the two women by clicking on the movies link and the interview with AJ (which I forgot to mention in the thread so thanks for that)! The big difference I see is that AJ thinks about her roles and is more interested in the acting part of it as opposed to attaining the movie star status which is why JA ends up looking and sounding like an airhead and constantly tripping herself up.

In regards to the Well Rounded interview - btw thanks for giving the link.
Even way back 1998/99 you can see which of the actress have character - read Neve Campbell and Angelina’s interview they were in their mid 20s but you sense that they are serious about acting and portraying various emotions on screen. When you read Jennifers, honestly you don’t get anything out of it - no insight on who she is and what she wants to bring to the screen or portray! and to actually cry becoz some interviewer cornered you…what is she 5 yrs!!! and for crying out loud don’t be lying - first about having met the interviewers then about the ending of the movie. True character always shines through. Jen has always tried to show that she is the good girl, she wants all to like her coz it makes her feel good about herself.

On March 21st 1998 their agents introduced them to each other at the CAA pre-Oscar party in Los Angeles.

Jennifer then left LA a few days later to film a friends episode in London.

When she returned to California she and Brad began dating, which was sometime around April 6th.
