Ferrera, Hudson = Big Hearts, Big Winners
Power voice Jennifer Hudson and Ugly Betty star America Ferrera were all curves and all smiles last night at the 59th annual Directors Guild Of America Awards held at Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles, Calif. I look forward to Jennifer Hudson getting that Oscar on February 25, 2007. I saw her on Oprah, she is so down to earth. Go JHud! Keep shining!

I love how the women with curves are taking on Hollywood. Not every actress is a size 0 with blonde/black roots showing.

Although it is unecessary to cross my fingers for Jennifer to win an Oscar, however, I will just to give her a little extra mojo:P
It’s interesting to see how in the minority/ethnic communities that Jennifer would be seen as sexy/thick, but in the mainstream community she’s seen as fat.
Maybe that’s why there are fewer black/latino women who are anorexic or have eating disorders.
I am so rooting for Jennifer to win at the Oscars!

Sometimes I wish JH would drop the big girl dresses AKA empire dresses and be a little more daring and more cinched waisted. She’s a lovely girl with awesome curves so she should stop hiding it under the mumu.
Both are absolutely beautiful girls! Never seen Dreamgirls yet, but because of all the hype around Jennifer, I am next in line to buy my ticket.

i am so glad Jennifer Hudson is getting this recognition.. not only is she beautiful with her curves but very talented as well :-) i loved the movie and i think she’s wonderful too… the lovely thing is, she’s quite humble (hope she will remain that way in the cynical world of showbiz)
ShakaZulu - I have to disagree with you (in a good way!) I’m white and see neither of these ladies as “fat” but as sexy and curvaceous! Granted I’m a little biased because my body looks more like Beyonce’s than Mary Kate’s, but please don’t paint us all with the same ’stupid brush’. To assume that all white chicks are starving themselves to look like the Olsen twins is so not true.
I understand what you’re saying, but assuming that all white people think the same would be just as silly as assuming all black or hispanic people think the same. Love these two! They are an inspiration to young women of EVERY colour.
Oh, and I love that these two are being rewarded for their talent and brains!

I wish them long successful careers. Give our daughters some other role models besides clavicle showing anorexic like creatures, like Kate Bosworth who was great in her first movie “Blue Crush?” and then went nuts going too skinny.

26 Izzie - ditto that. I read an article with quotes from Jen Gardner - she said that she had difficulty losing post baby fat because she wasn’t motivated - she just wanted to be home with baby. Then she got motivated and was back to “a salad a day and a little protien”. Ridiiculous that women have to eat so little as that and less to be what a large portion of the world calls “gorgeous”. Both JH and America look good (though I think she has lost weight) and Queen Latifa always looks good no matter her weight - they look healthy. I am glad we are now starting to see some plus size white models hit the magazines.
Don’t matter what size, or color, we all look like crap if we dress in two sizes too small. I’ve got not problem with her body size, just the dress size, oh AND the shoes.
America looks fabulous! You go girl!
USA is losing alot of weight, pretty soon she wont be playing the fat ugly girl roles. [lol] which is her appeal. I wonder what her career will look like at the end of this year.
I thought Ugly Betty was ugly because of her face and the clothes she picked not because she was fact. I actually never thought of her as fat.l

“Smackadocious” WHY would America be a so-called “sell out” in your words, if she were to lose weight? Is she supposed to stay at her otherwise normal weight to make you happy?! She is going to a ton of award shows, and is probably stressed out by it all which results in weight loss, but in the past she has said she would like to go on the “starvation diet” but can’t resist bagels.
I strongly believe that by making girls like America and Jennifer into reluctant spokespersons for “fat” people they will resist it in the end, and then the true test will come, will they still be as successful with a size 6/8 ass instead of a size 10/12.
