Wahoo! Avril Lavigne just released a brand spankin’ new song called “Girlfriend” from her upcoming album “The Best Damn Thing.” I really, really, really love the song — it’s not the sound I was expecting. I transcribed all of the “Girlfriend” lyrics despite my earwax build-up. So feel free to leave corrections in the comments!

I like it for the time being, but it sounds as if it’ll get annoying pretty quickly (especially if it gets real popular). I think she’s overdoing trying to sound as if she’s “grown up” and edgy. I have no doubt that she’s evolved for the better artistically, but throwing a bunch of swear words into an otherwise generic pop/rock sound isn’t the way to go. I have no doubt, though, that she’ll hold some better surprises for us in the new album, so I’ll just have to wait and see.
her lyrical talent is right up there with fred durst…
Not exactly what I was expecting from her…It may grown on me, but for the moment it feels like a step back..and reminds me too much of “Hey Mickey” from Bring It On..not to mention her voice sounds really worked over.. Kind of prefer the angrier Avril better. Who knows? It may grow more on me. Still looking forward to the album! =)

I thought it sounded like Hey Mickey too! It’s kind of catchy, but I liked the stuff on her last CD a lot more. It’s pretty juvenile sounding.
maybe catchy but definitely geared to the 12 - 15 yr olds, so it is a step backwards considering she supposedly grew up by getting married, modelling, etc. If the rest of the album is like this tune, it will be known as ‘The Most Immature Thing’ pretty quickly.

I really like this song. It reminds me of “hey mikey” as well. I was not expecting this from her / I expected something more mature and heartfelt. Avril did say that it was suposed to be upbeat and playful, so for those disapointed…. I don’t think we are supposed to take it too seriously (ITS A FUN SONG AND THATS IT). I F#&%ING LOVE IT.
