That’s so funny! I can totally relate! I’m sure the guy was flattered :) My hubby did the opposit and didn’t quite work:
We were on a highway in Sausalito CA, and of course my Paris-driver husband gets stopped by the Sausalito’s finest. He tried to say, “I’m sorrY officER, MAAiles, KilomETEErs very confusING” putting on his fake (well, stronger) French accent. The cop said, “Well it’s people like you who come to our country and ignore the rules” and slapped us with a ticket anyway LOL.
