Kanye West: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue
Kayne West looks the ultimate pimp in his photoshoot with Russian supermodel Anne Vyalitsyna (or Anne V, as Sports Illustrated likes to call her).

aww, i like the smiling shot and the one of him making the face. it looks like they shook things up this year.
Everyone know Eastern European girls are an intricate part of the sex trade. So this photoshoot just goes to emphasize that - the pimp and the ho, nuff said…
She is ugly and ****** in that communist-era way
hot , hot ,hot
She is not hot. I see its an SI day
She makes 99% of American girls look like four legged pigs.
He’s just a waste of time all together. Plus he looks like a dwarf there.
Kanye is so freakin’ hot - I think he’s just beautiful. He can storm as many stages as he wants to, he can do no wrong in my book. Gorgeous, gorgeous man-child!

well when did they start putting all the music artist on SI….what happend to just having models on the cover…thats new…
“well when did they start putting all the music artist on SI….what happend to just having models on the cover…thats new…”
When Jay Z became rich…that’s when. It’s also when people like P Diddy started being presenters at the Oscars.
Racist agenda? nooooo Never!
at the end of it all it just destroys any credibility left. Oscars mean nothing now. SI just bit the dust too.
Umm…isn’t Kanye West engaged? If he still is, he should probably takes his hands off a swimsuit model’s ass when he’s being photographed. Real classy.

Why? Because people of color are now involved in those “sacred” institutions?
What is the point of your silly post rabbit?
And please explain to us when the Oscars and Sports Illustrated, in light of all things in the world had ever had some level of credibility that had to be so super protected?
It’s not like we are talking about the United Nations here dear!
The Oscars used to mean something. They awarded people who deserved it.
Coloured people now get to win because they buy it. They feel they’re owed but they don’t deserve the awards they get. Dear.
btw: The UN is the biggest joke of all. Maybe if you left the US just once you’d see things with a little more clarity.
You can deny recognizing that there is a very evident agenda but you’re really just lying to yourself. It’s WAY too obvious to deny.
this is the 79th year that the academy awards have been presented and african americans have one 14 statuettes total. be honest, if you really wanted to win one wouldn’t you pay for it too?
btw: studio execs pay via ads & press junkets, not actors. everyone knows that.
Anne V is the hottest thing in the WORLD!!!!
check out some of her old pics on my blog. Useless Things.
Coloured people? Are you kidding me? This isn’t 1965 dear. You can say BLACK! It won’t kill you, I promise. Why does everything have to be a stupid race thing? I remember when Marisa Tomei won the Oscar and she sucked ass in that Vinny movie. Race hasn’t nothing to do with it. The few blacks (see…didn’t kill me at all!) that have won in the last few years actually preformed very very well in whatever role they were nominated for. Get your head out of your ass for two seconds. SI & the Oscars are boring as hell and they’re both trying to drum up attention. Putting music stars on their covers/shows makes sense. Most people are tired of skinny ass models who refuse to smile and look like drug addicts. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I live in a coloured (well, colored to me) world and I like to see a little diversity.
The Oscars never meant a damn thing except to other actors. In fact, winning an Oscar usually killed an actor’s career. If you don’t believe me, Google Gig Young and see what he did after he won. Stop with all the race agenda crap already. It’s sooooo old.

Ok, it is clear you are posting here just to get people riled up and to get attention so we’ll give it to you just this once then you can run along silly rabbit.
Coloured??? As in Jim Crow “Coloured” ..as in Apartheid Capetown “Coloured” ….wow, talk about vintage use of racist terminology. You went all retro on us with that word.
Oscars used to mean something?
In the mid 60’s after Elizabeth Taylor’s many heartaches and after losing opportunity to win an Oscar, she was “given one” for Butterfield 8 - a silly film in light of her work but it was a “gift” Oscar.
Al Pacino was “given an Oscar for Scent of a Woman because Oscar had forgotten to give it to him for all teh great films he had previously done.
Many actors were overlooked for Oscars due to their politics and political affiliation eventhough they rightfully deserved Oscars. Oscars were quite political and did not mean as much as you want to believe they meant. Winning an Oscar often meant the establishment wanted to make a point or was comfortable with that particular actor.
Elia Kazan never won an Oscar despite his great work. His tattle telling on supposed Communist entertainers during McCarthyism branded him a marked man so he won one posthumously in recent years.
Scorcese never won an Oscar for Best Director. He was an outsider in many ways in the Hollywood game. An east coast guy who made films on his own terms and made dark films at that. Hollywood took a long time to warm up to him.
Spielberg was not immediately embraced by the Oscars.
The Oscars did not mean that much until entertainers began to make demands on the Academy to change with the times.
Now your issue with …cough cough “coloureds” in the Academy: you might be overreacting here given that out of its 75 plus years only Hattie McDaniel, Sidney Poitier, Halle Berry, Louis Gossett Jr, Whoopi Goldberg and Jamie Foxx have won Oscars. That is SIX black people over a 75 year period.
Umm, sorry to break this to you but black people are not taking over the Oscars. They are barely getting through, silly rabbit.
PS: I think Isaac Hayes won for music score for Shaft in the 70’s. Make that 7 moron!
lol
Um..Silly Americans…I’m not from your country. You can say black…the other billions of us call ya coloured.
Your entire diatribe is laughable. So because people who earned them were given them later on instead of when they should have…BLACK people should be given them now? What? That REALLY makes sense to you? Wow. Just for no reason. Just because they’re black and not enough other black people earned them. Bra
vo.
You denying that you just feel left out and will do anything to be included only validates everything I said so thanks for the back up.
If you want things like awards…EARN THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t stick your hands out and cry like children.
…and no coloured people aren’t taking them (awards) over. They’re ruining them and have pretty much turned them into a joke.

Ok, you need therapy.
It hurts you that a people who have been broken down, marginalized, always manage to persevere.
Blacks have worked in Hollywood as wardrobe people, as choreographers, as editors, as countless behind the scenes craftsmen and women since the golden age of Hollywood.
Have you heard of Oscar Micheaux? He was making films during a time when Hollywood would not allow blacks in movies. Blacks have always been part of Hollywood.
And now as our world gets smaller, people are thirsty for diverse stories which include blacks. As those stories get more extraordinary, the performances become more captivating.
You are dealing with a people who were acting when they had to enter the movie theater through the back door. Whether or not, blacks were receiving awards, they would still continue to make films.
I work in Entertainment out here in LA. I also was raised around black Professors, scholars, artists and professionals. Clearly you were not. I don’t question the greatness of any black person because it is a given to me.
I went to private schools with kids who had way more money than I did and they were black (and I am white).
So this world you create for yourself is good for your little trailer park existence.
The sophisticated world has moved on buddy.
Try to catch up.
You work in LA huh?
I’m there all the time. You must be pretty successful…except anyone who can help it doesn’t LIVE in LA. They just work there. So You work at Starbucks or are you a gopher that just goes and gets coffee from there?
I went to private schools too. There were lots of Asian kids. Indian. Black too. Guess who always cried about getting special treatment because they were somehow owed it?
You are dealing with someone who doesn’t buy the bullsh*t.
If you work in LA you would already know everyone talks about this stuff all the time.
So you’re a liar.
And if you had half a brain you’d know trailer parks are pretty exclusive to the states. Other countries either don’t have them or call them something different like caravans.
So you’re also an idiot.
Next…
Deer Magnus,
I beleave that the former colored commander of the UN forced akademmy members to vote for Hally Berry. Just like he did for Jamy Foxxx and the other un-white performerze. This is how the terrorists operate - first they award themselfs Hollywood meddels, and before you no it, wer’e all kissing korans in public schools and gay marrying’ our dogs. If you think Im’ makin this up, ask yourselfs why Steven Seagal never got an Oskar or a Grammy or anything.

Yeah, I do work in LA. I majored in Production then moved out here and made sure I worked in the Industry (like my friends) I spent thousands on for my education. I know it is a hard concept for you to grasp. I love LA! I know the cliche is to hate it but I love it. Love the cuisine, love the culture (which people mistakenly think is all plastic boobs and no substance and I love my community of friends here). Most people who buy into the “hate LA” dumb cliche have never lived here or have never been able to make it here to be part of a community here so they don’t get it.
That said, that is all I will respond to. I will just defend LA in my post.
The rest of the race stuff, I will leave to your conscience.
I don’t have to prove to a low life like you the value of any race of people. What’s the point?
My parents are educated people who are the offspring of educated people who never had the misfortune of being ignorant. My parents were world traveled and their world was huge. I inherited that. I have always been surrounded by all kinds of people of all races. I am lucky. I don’t have to argue with you and try to convince you that black people are a great people. What for?
Think what you want. The more you post your endless rants, the more your insecurities, your ignorance, your lack of worldliness come through.
There is no well adjusted, successful, intelligent, sophisticated, secure person I know who would be ranting racist crap on a celeb blog. The fact that you are even posting this stuff says everything I need to know about you.
If you liked yourself a little bit more and liked the way your life was going a little bit more, you’d spend less time hating people. Why are they consuming so much of your time?
You’re a waste of time buddy.
Go on, keep posting. You’re a joke. I’d rather the debate with someone who is sophisticated and who has more than a GED from Alabama Dumbhill Trailer High School.
Have fun! Cheers!
Translation: “I’m an assistant still being bankrolled by my mommy and daddy”.
You majored in production? Where the f*ck do you just major in production? Community tech school? lol
Good luck in LA. Once you’re there long enough you’ll hate it. The sprawl will get to you.
The rest of your BS is just laughable.
This takes about 2 mins of my time. Wow. I must be obsessed? That speaks volumes about your work ethic.
“There is no well adjusted, successful, intelligent, sophisticated, secure person I know who would be ranting racist **** on a celeb blog.”
I’m guessing you don’t actually know any so why would you bother saying that?
You should have gone to a reputable school. You’ll be an assistant until you finally quit trying and up and leave LA. I’ve seen it MANY times. If you don’t have a real degree you’re not going anywhere.
Sorry kiddo. Some black guy just got your job cause the studio can right off his entire salary cause he fills a quota.
Now go get my my triple mocha.

Normally, I would not even entertain the likes of you but you’re so laughable, I will.
Where did I major in Production? Tisch School of the Arts, New York University.
My brother went to USC grad school and also majored in Production there and now works as a Producer - so you see Sherlock, there are places where people major in Production. And I don’t mean Assembly Line Production, Trailer Trash.
Did Mom and Dad bankroll it? Yes, they did.
Do I feel guilty? Hell no. My parents worked hard so I could get a 20k plus education an dso did my brother. BTW, it’s not that uncommon these days darlin’. Not a big deal but clearly to you it is.
You’re so bitter. It’s hilarious. I’m lovin’ it.
hahaha
a 20K plus education?
Wow!
And your brother went to BRAD school. He didn’t major in it for an undergrad now did he?
You think because Tisch is in NYC it’s reputable? That makes sense isnce you’re a f*cking ret*rd.
I’m sure you brother is a top notch producer too. lol
So basically you ARE an assistant and your parents wasted some good money while you play pretend.
Bitter? No kiddo, you wish you could be an assistant to people I don’t even deal with.
In case you’re wondering tuition at any decent school in the US is way more than 20K per year. Per year. 4 years for a degree. So you did what? One semester? Oh that’s right…you went to some p*ssy @ss faux school.
I didn’t go to school in the US though. :P
Remember that big bad world your explorer/adventurer parents trucked through with chirpa guides? You should try checking it out yourself.
This is getting more and more boring.
Beyonce is butt ass ugly and is only on that cover because she’s black and that’s type A racism.
The End.
Before you go on about it…I’m trying to combine the racism threads ongoing on here.
You’re welcome.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!
I just shared your post w/ a colleague. You are an official lowlife.
We don’t even look at resumes that are not from Tisch, or the two West Coast schools or Columbia. Of course, we always look at stuff from Yale and my Dad’s Alma Mater Princeton, or Harvard. But that’t it, when it comes to film, anyone who knows anything about either acting or production knows Tisch is the place. That you don’t even know about it says I am debating with a fucktard. HAHAHAHA!
I LOVE IT!
What country are you from anyway? Wow. Ok.
FYI. Here is some info on the top 5 film schools:
Just as the Ivy League has its “Big Three,” the world of film schools has its “Big Five,” which are listed below, in alphabetical order.
1. American Film Institute (AFI): AFI did not used to be a conventionally-structured Master of Fine Arts Program, but in recent years this has changed; graduates have the option of applying for a degree or of pursuing a certificate of completion option. AFI’s program, located at the American Film Institute, whose campus is at the edge of the Hollywood Hills-adjacent neighborhood of Los Feliz, is one the entertainment industry’s most prized institutions (the AFI list of the top 100 films of all time is considered one of the industry’s gold standards, and their lifetime achievement award dinners attract a luminous, A-List set of attendees). AFI’s faculty includes such industry luminaries as Frank Pierson, who in addition to having written the Sidney Lumet-directed classic Dog Day Afternoon, is the current president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (whose members determine the Academy Awards). To read more about AFI, log onto their website at http://www.afi.com.
2. Columbia University: Past film school deans have included such industry titans as Milos Forman, and the combination of a prime New York location and Ivy League pedigree has continuously allowed Columbia to attract some of the most prestigious names in the film industry, such as James Schamus, who runs Focus Features (Universal’s specialty, or small-film arm) in addition to writing films like The Ice Storm, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and The Hulk, to name a few. Columbia boasts seven of the last eight student academy award film recipients and has garnered a well-deserved reputation for integrating storytelling into the visual medium of film. Columbia’s film school does not require prospective students to take the GRE exam. To learn more about Columbia’s film school, go to their website at http://www.arts.columbia.edu/film/.
3. New York University: NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts was founded in 1965 and includes such alumni as Jim Jarmusch, Spike Lee, and M. Night Shyamalan. NYU embraces its “downtown” reputation and embraces avant- garde filmmakers and writers but, as evidenced by its eclectic faculty, list of alumni, and long list of produced film and television credits, it hardly eschews the mainstream. NYU does not require prospective students to take the GRE exam. To learn more about NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, visit their website at: http://www.tisch.nyu.edu.
4. University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA): UCLA’s film school benefits from its proximity to the entertainment industry, and its first-rate screenwriting program has turned out such names as Neal Jiminez (The River’s Edge, The Waterdance) and Scott Rosenberg (Beautiful Girls, Con Air) among others. Due to UCLA’s reputation as one of the premier institutions in which to learn how to write mainstream films, agents and other industry representatives always seem to be accessible; what’s more, the fluid interaction the school encourages between student filmmakers and student writers enables plenty of relationship-building within the school’s walls. UCLA does, however, require all prospective students to take the GRE exam. For more information about UCLA, their website is: http://www.tft.ucla.edu.
5. University of Southern California (USC): USC boasts perhaps the most famous film school in the country, and with alumni and benefactors such as Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Robert Zemeckis, it is no mystery as to why. If USC has one drawback, it is that for all the acclaim its directors’ program has enjoyed, there has been little mention made of its screenwriting department. This is unjustified: USC’s screenwriting department benefits from the same proximity to the industry as UCLA (although its decidedly less-than-tony neighborhood is a far cry from UCLA’s prime Westwood setting), and its faculty is every bit as distinguished as UCLA’s. For more information about USC’s film school, their website is http://www.cntv.usc.edu.
Magnus is a racist. To call Beyonce butt ass ugly proves it. She’s not the most beautiful woman in the world, certainly not the most beautiful black woman, but ugly???
Don’t waste your words on people like him.
the fact that he posted here– pic of Kanye with that white model probably p*issed him off big time!
As I said “observing” equality = racism in America. You’re only happy when you have a helping hand. I could care less about Kanye being with a white model. I care more that he’s a loud mouthed pissant who needs a good backhand.
And yes Beyonce is butt ugly. Not because she’s black but because she has a face like a baboon’s **** and thighs you could use to start a fire when they rub together.
To the other ****…so when you’re screening resumes…as an assistant…you only look at people from a list you grabbed off the net?
Best of luck! lol
You and your “colleague” are sure to go far. Out of the thousands of grads Tisch has a handful quite a roster of successful alumni huh? Well not quite a handful. lol
If you had any clue about the film industry you’d know the first thing anyone tells you is not to go to film school because it’s a waste of time. I’m not going to fault you, I made the same mistake myself. I went to U of T (btw: one of the most multi cultural schools in the most multi cultural cities in the world) for my undergrad and did my post grad work at UCLA. Both schools means both jack and squat to anyone.
But I was never an assistant. Because I never had to be.
“Producer”, for those of you observing, is a blanket title that can mean just about anything. For the most part the so called producers who live and never leave LA are the failures playing games and never really getting anything done. Anyone worth their weight goes…oh I dunno, to the set maybe? But that requires actually getting a project off the ground. A project worth while with a budget that people are proud of.
Your dad probably tells people you’re in med school to hide his shame.

You guys are nuts!!! Addicting debate. Team Lara Croft, you are quite the intelligent lady. I can tell that you know your stuff. I’ve been surfing around on several sites and coming back to read the comments here.
Magnus, although I disagree with your point of view, I think you are intelligent also. You don’t come across as a southerner. On another post you said you were not born here. You write well. How did you become a racist? What race are you? Can you tell that without giving too much of yourself away? Are you Caucasian? Not all racists are Caucasian, believe me. It’s just strange that you could go to a school with all kinds of people and become a racist. It’s interesting to me.
Are you still a foreigner here in the United States? Have you become a citizen?
Since I’m commenting, I have to disagree with the comment about Beyonce looking like a baboon. Does she really look that bad to you? That is a racist comment - connecting her to a monkey.
Ok I’ve been watching this too and Magnus is hardly a racist. You made the monkey to black person racism connection. Saying someone looks like a baboon is a pretty common insult. I don’t think he meant it in the traditional racist way you’re thinking.
Team Lara Croft, I’m from Buffalo and go to Toronto every now and then (I’m about 2 hours north of it right now). If you think that’s “country” then you’re pretty stupid. I mean they have some nice ravines but the place is mostly skyscrapers. That just killed any credibility you had.
Plus I have it on good authority that about 8 out of every 10 writers working in the television industry in California are Canadian. So he’s kind of got you by the balls there.
I get the feeling you didn’t address him telling you that David Cronenberg, Norman Jewison, and Adam Agoyan all went to his same school (the university of Toronto) because you don’t actually know who they are. They’re all Academy Award winning film makers.
Lastly I don’t believe you even have friends let alone being surrounded by them and laughing. If that’s true they’re as narrow minded and pathetic as you are.
People like you are the very reason I come up here so much. You’re the spoiled Paris Hiltons. The collective shame of America. The by-product of a free market economy. You’re the reason most Americans are afraid to travel (in case you’re curious…we’re not well liked around the world). You’re a half wit with a useless degree and no clue about anything that actually matters.
Magnus, if you’re not an American citizen I would gladly trade Team Lara Croft for you.

43 I have read through a few of Magnus’s posts and I took it as a given that he is a racist. You didn’t come to that conclusion? Why not? I didn’t argue with him. I just figured that’s the way he is and that’s that. I’m not here to try to change someone’s beliefs. I think it not possible to do that anyway. I felt that he was pretty comfortable with that label because he never denied it.
Regarding the comment, I (nonracist) wouldn’t call a black person a baboon. If someone truthfully resembled a baboon (and let’s admit it that some people do look like animals), I could say it, but to call Beyonce a baboon is pretty mean-spirited. But if Magnus feels that way about blacks in general, that’s how he could see her that way.
I think Team Lara Croft is a good debater about a lot of subjects. She’s done a lot of posting here on JJ. You could be right that she didn’t know who the movie makers were, but I think she doesn’t believe Magnus came from Toronto. That’s what she was saying. She thinks he is lying about his background, so she kept calling him a country bumpkin. We tend to think of racists as being from the south or backwoods in America. I don’t know, he could be. I mean, who knows for sure on these blogs?
Oh it’s late. It’s too late to be sitting here typing. Goodnight.

Magnus,
In your opinion, have any black actors, or any non-white actors for that matter, ever deserved, or rather earned their Oscar’s, Emmy’s, etc.?
Also, what criteria would be necessary for a black actor to be perceived as having earned such an award as opposed to being seen as simply receiving it as a result of successfully “crying for a handout”?
Also, would you agree that perhaps Kanye having an SI cover would not only serve as a source of controversy in light of the racial under-current, but also as an attempt to penetrate further into the “urban/hip-hop” market demographic? (In otherwords they wanna profit off of the black market).
In light of the discussion of racism, I’m not sure being exposed to multi-cultural surroundings (i.e. Toronto) expands one’s perspective into an elevated realm enlightenment. Perhaps, those surroundings, if observed from a superficial perspective, serve merely to reinforce any preconceived notions about said racial, social, or ethnic group, agreed?
Not at all.
Your argument is first hand experience and exposure enforces an individuals racial bias? How? By validating suspicions? What if your suspicions are wrong? How would you even know? Well I guess you could ask me.
And FYI he’s not on the cover. He’s just in there. I could care less about him even though it seems like people really want me to.
I don’t think S/I cares about the self important hip hop demo. Their marketing to visible minorities is well taken care of in their coverage of professional sports like basketball etc. The “black” market was sucked into SI a long time ago. Look up! There goes your argument.
What is stupid is people like P Diddy and Jay Z showing up to present at the Oscars. They’re not actors. And in those same years awards are handed out for performances that weren’t deserved of recognition of that caliber. Understand? Agree? Open ended questions in an attempt to govern the discourse? Pretty sad even with your verbiage.
The only people who think there’s a racial undercurrent or who care about it are visible minorities and those profiting from their bare boned bigotry. Agreed? Wouldn’t you say I’m absolutely correct?
While your thesaurus obviously isn’t broken you really need to work on your grammar.
The recent black actors who have received Oscars in no way earned them. People cried and they were handed out to shut people up. Coincidence that immediately after Spike Lee cried tears of stupidity over this exact issue black actors were suddenly winning and people with no relationship to acting or movies were showing up as presenters? No? Not at all?
I am quite sure that being exposed to multi cultural surroundings does indeed expand an individual’s perspective on this exact issue. It’s called experience. I feel comfortable in assuming you have none.
To answer your first question: Morgan Freeman. Denzel Washington. Sidney Poitier. Louis Gossett Jr.
They won fair and square and should be proud.
Halle Berry and Jaime Fox has those things bought for them. Wouldn’t you agree whole heartedly with everything I said?
This dude Magnus doesn’t realize that life is not fair in so many ways. Whose fault is it that the precious Oscars are losing it’s prestige? It’s lazy white people in charge who aren’t doing their job and putting together a good show. They have found the hip-hop culture to be extremely lucrative. They realize there is an entire community out there that likes hip-hop and will watch people like Jay Z and Puffy on the Oscars. That means ratings. That means money. Overall, all those “shows” have gone downhill and will probably continue to do so. So sorry to break that news to you Magnus.
How many times do people win Oscars when they didn’t deserve it? Let’s not go there. I thought Shawshank Redemption deserved something great years ago, but noooo! Am I having a breakdown about it today? Of course not, because that’s just life. It’s hard for a racist to grasp, but some people see things differently and thought Halle and Foxx deserved the Oscar.
Magnus is just a racist saying, “Oh no, here come the blacks tainting all that was good! Before you know it, they’ll ruin everything! We’ve got to find a way to keep them in their place!”
Racist, please.
Blacks make LITTLE strides in Hollywood, and it is never consistent. Magnus is mad because he sees Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy about to get something and he can’t stand it.
Blacks take what they get in Hollywood. Give them better roles, and they will give better, Oscar-worthy performances. If you want to deal with racism, deal with that Magnus. THAT IS UNFAIR!
First of all, so what, Beyonce’ is on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Big deal. It’s Beyonce’. Classified as beautiful black woman. That’s what she is, they wanted her, so deal with it. Stop being so damn racist and stuff. Thats so old. If Gwen Stefani was on the cover we wouldn’t be having any conversation about it, or Cameron Diaz. Woman are beautiful. We are gonna take over a lot of things that have a certain classification. (Just for Super Models) Sex Sells. Sports Illustrated gotta make money too. And more importantly, I don’t see what the big deal is about Kanye. That is their job to do photo shoots and stuff. So when he get in somebody’s movie kissing on some actress, is everybody gonna be throughing they head back and screaming OH NO! I dont think so. That is their job. GET YOU ONE! AND GET YOU SOME BUSINESS! One more thing……..Poster number(11) YES number (11) I dont really like P-Diddy myself, but don’t be saying racist stuff like the Oscars aint nothing. Why would you say that? Then you say,”at the end of it all it just destroys any credibility left. Oscars mean nothing now. SI just bit the dust too.” PLEASE DONT HATE!
Magnus,
“Your argument is first hand experience and exposure enforces an individuals racial bias?”
No, my argument is that a veneer of first-hand experience does not guarantee a broader perspective. So, judging from your responses of, “What if your suspicions are wrong? How would you even know? Well I guess you could ask me,” I’ll assume that you agree with me.
“I don’t think S/I cares about the self important hip hop demo. Their marketing to visible minorities is well taken care of in their coverage of professional sports like basketball etc. The “black” market was sucked into SI a long time ago. Look up! There goes your argument.”
Point taken in that SI’s coverage of sports such as basketball already connect extremely well with the urban demographic. However, it would be presumptive to imply that any increased visibility and further market penetration would be unwelcome by any for-profit entity.
“What is stupid is people like P Diddy and Jay Z showing up to present at the Oscars. They’re not actors. And in those same years awards are handed out for performances that weren’t deserved of recognition of that caliber.”
I’m not so sure what either of them have to do with the Oscars either other than Jay-Z having a couple of small-time, indie-type, low budget productions of his own some time back, and Diddy having a couple of forgettable roles in a movie or two. But again, if there is a face that could increase exposure (or in this case ratings) by connecting with a sub-demographic, then so be it. The masses will consume whatever they’re fed. Blame the competitive nature of capitalism, the self-indulgent nature of entertainment, the sheepish consumer, the greed of corp. shareholders, or the “easy-pickings” of profits from the over saturation of hip hop into mainstream culture for the “stupidity” that you speak of. At the end of the day though, the Oscars will be over and completely milked by the network which will have collected its ad money (or kickbacks, receivables, or unmentionable favors), and every ACME corporation involved will have gained more exposure. The actors, awards, and presenters are simply being used as needed.
“Halle Berry and Jaime Fox has those things bought for them. Wouldn’t you agree whole heartedly with everything I said?”
Money speaks volumes, but people aren’t FORCED to listen.
How does one have a veneer of first hand experience?
You either live it or you don’t. Are you trying to say that while growing up in Toronto or another multicultural city it is possible to live a white wash existence?
You should come up here. There are more Chinese people than white people now so a veneer isn’t even possible. Natural coexistence and a habitat that coerces fairness rather than emphasizing morally void business ethics makes much more sense. People who grow up here learn it. People who arrive and practice what you preach learn it the hard way.
Lastly…and I can’t believe I have to point it out again, you’re only 12% of America. That’s it. Expecting to be 80% of everything when your numbers are so small is just plain stupid. Little strides in Hollywood? I’d say with those numbers black people have pushed their way around more than enough.
The sad thing is if it just happened naturally as generations wake up to the stupidity of racism you’d/they’d be much better off.
The answer to what P Diddy and Jay Z have to do with the Oscars is they don’t. It’s their way of trying to integrate themselves into what they’ve perceived to be high society. So while they tarnish the ceremony they also end up looking like complete folls because anyone with half a brain knows they bought their way there and it’s a huge waste of their money.
I have a very honest question because I don’t know if it’s happened: has a black person who makes it big as an actor or musician ever gone back to school and gotten a degree or higher degree?
Magnus,
more hot air………. and a hopeless case. You do know that you are hopeless right?
Your a fricking racist ok? Your entire perception is tainted by evil. Don’t try to recant now. You blew it buster!
YOU’RE THE RACIST YOU TWAT!!!!!!!!
TAKE YOUR ADD MEDS AND ACTUALLY READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t have to recant on sh*t.
Your entire perception is tainted by generations of inbreeding.
Assh*le.
We can argue with adamant racists like Magnus all day long and get nowhere. In this case, when a black person is in the gutter, Magnus kicks him down further. He sits with his racist buddies and discusses how blacks are the dregs of society with their drugs, poverty, rap music, baggy clothes, unwanted pregnancies and illiteracy.
When a black person is successful, Magnus become jealous. If a successful black person is around Magnus, they’d better watch their back because they are being examined under a microscope. I have seen racists who are literally obsessed with the black person who epitomizes either success or beauty. Some of the nicest, well-raised, intelligent blacks are targets of racists because the racist does not want to see them succeed above themselves. That’s why you are insecure, Magnus. Blacks in the presence of racists would be better off acting “ghetto” and scary because the racist may be frightened off or to a least a safe distance away. If they are too polite, racists often take that as an opportunity to ensnare them in a trap. When dealing with a racist, a black person is damned under ALL circumstances. This isn’t a good, honest discussion about valid points. Hatred is at the core of it.
Magnus I think you are an evil, unhappy person. It is clear to anyone who can read that you are NOT a fan of ANYTHING black.
And to throw a little salt on your wound…
No doubt about it, I’m better looking than you too!
Frog!
lol
Delusional nitwit.
YOU
ARE
THE
RACIST!!!!
Being a proponent of racial segregation and identifying people per race makes you a bigot you GIGANTIC r*tard.
It is clear to anyone with even 2 or 3 brain cells that you can’t digest visually consumed material. It’s a pretty common problem with lower class adults.
Here’s some salt in your wound you insecure little b*tch, you’re not fit to lick my ass let alone claim you’re better looking. lol
You’re not enlightening anyone. You’re just outing yourself as a card carrying moron.
The last thing I would ever be afraid of is a black person. lol
Take your racist, uneducated, and I’m going to assume wide load ass and GTFO.
Peace out everybody — minus Magnus! He’s tiresome and boring (yawn). Let him have the last say, let him talk all day. Talk to yourself Magnus. It’s all jibber- jabber anyway and it’s going nowhere. You can’t argue with a nut! The entire conversation/debate is soiled when you argue with a stupid racist. Not a fair playing field (they are subhuman — my dog ranks higher than Magnus).
A racist foreigner??? You really need help. You have a lot of nerve! Magnus, you were born at the wrong time in history, dude. You should have arrived on the scene when slavery was still being practiced. I wish you would take your ugly @ss back to Toronto… and stay there. Yes, it’s too bad and unfair that you’ve been traveling to the USA for years and still feel like an outsider. It must be hard to have gotten such a “fantastic” education and travel to the USA only to continue to feel like a second-class citizen. On top of that, many of the people you have despised for so long are climbing the ranks above you. Har Har. Go back now. It doesn’t get any easier. The future does not look very bright for you.
Magnus, I wish I knew where you were so that I could change your diaper. Some of the “caca” you are defecating is really stinking up this site!
Look at the typical ass!
Retreating under the guise of moral superiority.
I’m a foreigner now? And I’M the racist?
You’re beyond…I mean just too far gone.
I guess it’s the insecurity that comes out of being told you’re hot sh*t only to find out your the most inconsequential race in America. And Canada. And Europe. And Asia. And Russia. lol
The past, present, and future looks pretty dim for you and your bigoted kind. Assimilate now while you’re still allowed to.
Talk about a second class citizen. You’d be lucky to get hired to pick up my trash. :D
btw: I’m back in Toronto. I’ll be here for a bit. Then to the USA. The maybe elsewhere. Because people like me do that while people like you go into debt to buy 8 thousand dollar rims for a 2 thousand dollar car.
And you still haven’t answered my question. Of course.
You’re boring. I make points, you cry like a little b*tch. Which is exactly the kind of behavior that started me in this thread. Thanks for playing right into it and TOTALLY BACKING UP EVERYTHING I’VE SAID.
And LOL @ “peace out”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hysterical!
magnus,
“I have a very honest question because I don’t know if it’s happened: has a black
person who makes it big as an actor or musician ever gone back to school and gotten a degree or higher degree?”
Hopefully this list isn’t exhaustive, but there are only three that I can think of that have returned to school after gaining notoriety/success, and only one that can be considered a “real” star…
Bill Cosby, comedian/actor - attended Temple Univ, dropped out to pursue comedy career, returned to Temple and completed undergrad, then completed grad. work at Univ. of Mass.
Ice Cube, rapper/actor - Univ of Phoenix online coursework before crossing over from music in to film (not sure if he graduated though)
David Banner, rapper & producer/engineer for T.I, Lil Flip, Nelly - Southern Univ. undergrad, returned for grad degree at Univ. of Maryland on scholarship.
However, there are waaaay more of black entertainers that have dropped-out of college to pursue their “dreams” in entertainment though. A few that I can think of: Lauryn Hill -Columbia Univ., Kanye - Chicago State Univ., Denzel - Fordham Univ…anyway it doesn’t count if you don’t complete your credit req’s though.
A few did have degrees before they entered the industry though: Taye Diggs, actor - Syracuse Univ., Blair Underwood, actor - Carnegie-Mellon Univ., Mario Van Peebles, actor/director - Columbia Univ., Amerie, singer - Georgetown Univ., Spike Lee, director - Morehouse Col. undergrad, Tisch - NYU grad, John Singleton, director - Univ. So. Cal….anyway enough of that.
In general though, in the States it seems like learning takes the backseat to earning. Unfortunately in the black community that mantra is even more prevalent and has been extremely crippling.
“How does one have a veneer of first hand experience?”
I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about Toronto, and I may roll up there in July for Caribana. I don’t doubt that the US and Canada have some distinct nuances in regards to their inter-ethnic relations. For instance, here (DC) a vast number of ethnic groups are represented (and yes I know that TO is ranked as the most culturally diverse city in the world), but only superficial interactions will ever occur between them unless any one particular individual is so inclined to “reach out”. In other words people tend to stick with their “like-kind”, it’s more like a salad bowl than a melting pot. So with that, it’s highly likely that only a veneer/gloss/shallow first-hand experience of any other ethnicity/culture will happen in passing. Maybe Toronto is different though.
In regards to, “Lastly…and I can’t believe I have to point it out again, you’re only 12% of America.”
Well, 12% of the US population works out to about 36 million people. To put that into perspective, the black American population is about 10% larger than the entire population of Canada. But, it would be incongruous to assume that population alone would determine whether or not a business should service or market to a particular demographic. You’ve got to market to the populations that have buying power in order to stay profitable. So since we brought up Canada, the US’s largest export partner, about a fifth of all of our exports end up there. Now imagine how the US would be affected if Canada closed its doors to our goods and services. Well then in the same token, the US would be just as adversely affected by a similar “door closing” by the black American market. Likely even more so, given that the black American GDP is 15% larger than the whole Canadian GDP. In other words, for better or worse, black Americans consume (or invest into the economy) 15% more goods/services than the US’s largest export partner. Disservicing such a market would prove to be a bit more than just a minor business oversight of an insignificant group of people.
Ahite, I’m sleepy.

Good points, but it will make no sense to bigots on this board.

On credit. You forgot that part.
On average minorities in America are heavily in debt to the tune of 75% of their supposed equity.
Aside from that marketing based on race is still racist. So again you should all be pissed off about stuff like this. You’re being duped into the poor house one missed credit card payment at a time.
Per the comments on reaching out: self imposed segregation makes that rather difficult. Hence the split in the US.
Thanks for backing me up.
“On average minorities in America are heavily in debt to the tune of 75% of their supposed equity.”
Yeah America is credit heavy in general, couple that with extremely low savings rates and voila, marketers’ paradise. So we can assume that most sub-demographics would then reasonably follow suit…and unfortunately, some do so more so than others potentially to their own peril. It sucks. But my point was that the black American market cannot be ignored from a pure business standpoint, BECAUSE OF that very pull—for better or for worse.
On the other hand, marketing is the mouth-piece of business. So therefore, if the negatively charged idea behind the campaign is racially/sexually/religiously/etc. motivated then it actually says more about the mind-set of the marketers/backing company/wizard behind the curtain, and the society that tolerates it, than it does for the sub-demo it targets. But as ad people already know, images are extremely compelling and the masses often digest more of it, at least subconsciously, than they realize. Sooner or later they bite into it all, and usually without much challenge. So what comes first the demand or the supply? We just know that the demand is perpetuated by a sheep mentality. So people are usually too sheepy to get pissed, and when someone does speak out, the voice is often quelled by an “It’s just business. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it,” type quip.
“Per the comments on reaching out: self imposed segregation makes that rather difficult. Hence the split in the US.”
Good ol’ America. The beacon of hope for ALL mankind. :)
What an idiot! A lot of people are in debt, not just African Americans. We already know that blacks make up more of the poor here. What is your point? Sounds just like more racist ranting.
It’s a very nice ideals from this article. Sometimes I thinks a new way to trust the truth for it. ah. isn’t it?
