Sports Illustrated: Tyra’s 10 Year Anniversary
In honor of Black History Month, Tyra celebrated the 10th annivesary of becoming the first Afircan-Americ an model to be fatured solo on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Editon. She recreated the groundbreaking photo in the Bahamas while wearing the same polka-dot bikini witih the same photographer she worked with a decvade ago. Here are the amazing photos from that shoot!

Umm, I know that Tyra’s been through airbrush/photoshop heaven, but she doesn’t look half bad. She’s definitely not nearly as toned, has a bad weave, and I don’t even think that’s the same bikini, but she looks pretty good. Of course, back in the day, she was smoking hot. She and Naomi ruled the catwalk then. Too bad that though she’s psycho, Naomi’s still doing real good physically. Tyra’s slacking, but that’s why she’s retired.
I hope it doesn’t really look like that, but her boobs are too saggy in the second shot. Ugh! Of course the first photo looks the best. Her skin is tight and toned. Her stomach looked really good. Her hair also looked much sexier.
Oh well, remember you pretty ladies: This is what all of you have to look forward to! After a certain age, it doesn’t matter one ounce what you used to look like. We are all on equal playing field once age sets in.

Black people have hazel, blue, brown eyes just like white folks. Tyra’s is well known for her hazel eyes.
She’s looks good to me. She’s preserved well over the years, but not really surprised people of color don’t age as bad:P
I can’t believe I am admitting to this but I watched the this episode of Tyra Banks Show. They had to add material to the bathing suit. But these pictures side by side the suit looks totally different. Different color and everything.
I hate how Tyra tries to act like she is changing the face a beauty by protraying “every woman”, mean while America’s Next Top Model is looking for the stereotypical waif thin model.

You can tell by the way the dots are lined up that it’s not the same bikini. Unless when she was thinner the dots layed differently but i’m pretty sure the older bikini had less dots around the chest area and the dots on the bottom half don’t match up either. Nice try though, but if you’re really going to say you can wear the same bikini 10 years later at least try and find the same one. The 2nd set of pics do look fierce. Her body looks flawless to me.
I hate to break it to all of you but every single picture you have ever seen on the cover of a magazine as been airbrushed. Some to a greater extent than others — but if you think a photograph can go to print and be put on newsstands as is, you are seriously misguided. All cover photos are airbrushed. Period.

her stomach is a little wider and her hair looks terrible and that is not the same bikini. I am pregnant now and i model and before i got pregnant which was a months ago, i had my first child 4 months before but after i has him i started to model again and i was so unhappy with my “fat” body and i decided not to go with airbrushing and be natrul and let people see the real me and what people look like wih out airbrushing, if i had went with that i would have been dissapointed in myself becuase that is not the real you. My ad for Guess Jeans came out natural and even though i didnt look perfocto i was happy because that me. Tyra had some mafor hair brushing. also she should have curved her stomoach like in the first one. Not just straight like that. The first one is def. hotter.
I don’t mind she is fat or slim, I honestly think that she looks good either way. It is just so sad that she is agreeing to hide the real her with the airbrushing, and at the same time telling the world that she is okay with her body image. She is in serious denial…

If her eyes are naturally hazel she is not 100% African decent. She is famous for her contacts then. Unless she has two mixed race parents who carry one hazel allele (the type of gene determining eye colour) each. 100% black people always have 2 brown alleles.
And fug face I think the word you’re looking for is drawer. If she’s supposed to duplicating the cover then she should be in the same suit. It’s not like a multi million dollar company couldn’t have it made.

That’s not true at all. We saw Tyra, in a bathing suit, with Humungo thighs and cellulite and all. And now these pics come out? Obviously, there’s been lots of airbrushing. That’s not saying that she looks ugly. I think her body looks fantastic here. If only it were real.
I’m an Angelina fan, as I take from your name that you are too, and we’ve seen pictures of Angelina that are completely airbrushed. She still looks good in them, but it’s kinda obvious that there has been work done to them.

I personally don’t care to hear Tyra speak, and I think she is a little retarded, but there is no denying that she is beautiful. Some of you people are truly ridiculous, blind, and probably ugly! I can saw with complete certainty that none of you would ever have the guts to take a picture, not once but twice, for national consumption.
P.S. It is the same bathing suit with a little extra material on the side of her boobs, as well as extenders for the bottoms.
She has clearly lost a lot of weight since that fat photo was taken on that beach. Which begs the question, why go on and on about how you are so not fat and get all preachy about everything if she went and (probably) crash dieted to lost the weight that fast…

I’ve seen tons of white women on this site and even tho we all know that most to [all] photos get airbrushed for some reason people never seen to bring it up. which is completely cool with me. but as soon as Tyra a black women has a photo on here the first thing that’s said is its airbrushed, and photoshopped.
I’m sure half of those statements was made cause people were bored. but everyone can tell she isn’t fat, photoshopped or not. black females catch way to much slack. theres something wrong when Britney Spears gets more love than Tyra Banks does.
Tyra still looks great. Ten years is a long damn time! Good for her for having the courage to even attempt this. My only gripe is her hair. She looks like she has acute swimmer’s hair, complete with the chlorine discolouration and the burned out, stringy ends. :(

Thank god for photoshop otherwise she wouldn’t have been able to pull off this stunt! She just has to face it….she will never look like she did on the first cover….unless maybe she starts hitting the gym and eating less.
ok so EVERY magazine photo goes through a lot of photoshopping regardless of what ethnicity you are. Make up can only go such a long way. Don’t underestimate the power of photoshop, haven’t you seen that dove commercial? And it might be the same suit just in a different size, which would be reason why the dots don’t line up the same way.

Just for the record=All of us are 100% African descent! Some of our ancestors moved to other places and adapted. It’s tough being a beautiful woman, no matter what race or color you are. It’s hard being idolized and cherished, and then one day all of that is gone. I’ve noticed that the most beautiful famous women leave the public eye once their youthful appearance begins to wane. It’s just hard to face the facts.
Maybe it’s just the quality of the scan, but that purple space between her breasts looks very odd and distracting.

I don’t think she looks bad now but if she had her photos altered so much then she obviously isn’t very happy with her body, and that makes everything that she says not only annoying but also hypocritical.

I don’t even understand why race was being played here on this blog…when I first saw the photo, I didn’t say “black Tyra was airbrushed” or “why does black Tyra have hazel eyes?” That is ridiculous…anyone who cannot discuss the photo rather than bringing up race have their own issues to deal with…
I saw the photo and thought, “she doesn’t look 1/2 bad even if it is airbrushed.” Haven’t any of you read or looked at fashion mags? The cover models are always airbrushed along with the editorial pictures and ads…airbrushing is nothing new and as far as I can remember it hasn’t mattered what race or ethnic background you are…the mags are always gonna erase the stretch marks, cellulite, pimples, etc…that is just a fact…I mean, when Demi Moore posed for Vanity Fair nude while pregnant, did you really believe there weren’t stretch marks somewhere??
Personally, I don’t care either way…I’m not sure why this is an issue…I have always found Tyra beautiful the same way I do other models…and anyone who calls her fat has a warped view on beauty or is trying to start some serious debate…if you say she is fat, then you’re fighting on the side of all the fashion critics who believe 100 lb. models are curvy and fabulous…we need some more curvy role models so young girls can avoid eating disorders and a warped perspective on their own body image…

I saw Tyra on ET on last week and she was having an interview with AJ and what she conveyed to him was that it was indeed the same bathing suit from her first shoot however; they had to add some more fabric to the bra portion (she acutally showed it to the camera so that the audience can view for themselves) Not that this infomation really matters but I thought I would pass it along. I am more than sure you can catch the interview on ET’s website so you can hear what she says about all the comments in regards to her weight gain. My personal opionion is that it really does not matter. Live life and live it Abundantly! Who cares if the girl lost

Airbrushing probably yeah … but there’s always or a lot of airbrushing in celebrity photos.. haven’t you all worked that out yet? No, they do NOT always have to be mixed in order to have different color eyes besides brown. Are you guys geneologists or something?? :smh: I know several black people with colored eyes.. u don’t necessarily have to be “mixed”. And the reason most “mixed” people side more with black is because most of the time they look more black than white aka their skin is darker or *an olive color*, their hair still very thick and curly/wavy… and yeah, way to go bigots.
Tyra is really hot but looks soooo uncomfortable in the new shot. She should have gone to the gym and gotten into shape before doing the new shoot. I realize she was the first African-American to be on the cover of SI Swimsuit Edition but who celebrates themselves? Insecure much? And no one has commented on the difference in perspectives in the two shoots — much further away from the camera in the new shot. Which probably means she is quite a bit larger now, so the picture is misleading. If you can’t do something authentically, don’t do it at all.

Well, I don’t think she’s fat on this pic. Not even on the right one, but what it makes it so scary is that her face looks like a vampire, anyway, that’s how it looks in my eyes. The body on the left looks very fake, but I like the hair :P Tyra naturally has a beautifull skint.
I happen to think that she look radiant in both pictures.
As some of us know the body does change after ten years. He chest isn’t going to be high and perky. They are going to head south. That natural. She hasn’t changed that. Which I admire her for. Yeah she gained some weight here and there. Again that natural. Not everyone in the world is going to be skinny for the rest of his or her life.
As far as the color of the picture. Think back ten years ago how were the camera’s back then. Now fast forward ten years. What are the camera’s like today. Right!. The swim suit she has on. As far as we know from what Tyra has said on her show it is the same bikini just with added material.
About he airbrush. Every magazine you look at there person on it is airbrushed. Whether thet are black or white. They are airbrushed.
Put it this no matter how you look at Tyra she is still a beautiful woman.

I am black(light-skin)with light-brown eyes. My brother is darker than Tyrese(Singer/Actor)he also have light-brown eyes.
I think Tyra looks great, work or no work done. People complain because they want thicker models, and some people in this blog are judging her looks because she’s thicker. Come on! real woman are curvy and sexy. Because of comments like these, many young girls think they are fat when they are not.
Tyra is not fat in the second picture. How can people say that? Yeah she is bigger, but nowhere close to fat. She looks gorgeous in both pictures, but better in the first. That doesnt look like the same bikin either, but that may be becasue they adjusted it.

LOL at the people who say only the second one was airbrushed. You must think SI only air brushes some and not others. We are talking about models here, some who have gotten so thin you could see ribs but yes, Tyra’s 2007 remake must be the only one air brushed because it bucks societies ideas of beauty. If you going to take apart the air brushing in one you have to do it for the other, or you can just examine it for what it is, and see she is beautiful in both.
Outside of the hair, Tyra actually looks pretty good in both pics. All pics are airbrushed before publication, no matter who it is…Tyra, Giselle, Cindy, Naomi, Beyonce, Jessica…everyone!! No one can think that there are this many perfect people running around.
As for her eye color…hazel is Tyra’s natural eye color. Both of her parents are African American. If you see childhood pics of her, her hair is a med-dark brown and her eyes are hazel!!
It is very possible for African American’s to have green, grey, hazel, and even blue eyes naturally based upon genetics. My paternal Grandfather is dark complected with blue eyes, my sister is light complected with hazel eyes. My other sister is dark complected with natural sandy brown hair. Again, genetics….obviously, somewhere in the bloodline there is someone with either of these eye colors. F.Y.I. -I think it’s safe to say that there are no 100% African Americans in the US.

Yeah I think in alot of ways the 1st one looks good because shes more toned, has nicer hair and her skin looks full of colour. But the 2nd one also looks good because her skin seems a little washed out but its still got a warmer and darker tone which looks nice and its consistent. So really they both look gorgeous.
