Angelina Jolie Talks Foreign Relations
Angelina Jolie is being admitted to become a member of the prestigious Council on Foreign Relations. Angelina, 31, will soon be rubbing elbows with other club members of the exclusive, Manhattan-based foreign-policy group including Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, Henry Kissinger, Colin Powell, and Alan Greenspan.
International-affairs professor Dr. Gordon Adams says “Bring her on. The idea of having Henry Kissinger and Angelina Jolie in the same organization is dazzling.”

Says who? As a UN Foreign officer, I can honestly say that we do not look for exact fits, and most importantly, the first criteria in appointing someone is that they believe in what they work in.
Great news! this is another prove that Angelina is mentally and physically fit person.

It publishes the respected bi-monthly journal Foreign Affairs. Thanks Just Jared for the new thread. It is good to read positive information about AJ. AJ has been involved with her UN work for many years. She has been a goodwill ambassador for the UN and has projected a positive image for the United States aboard as well as home. Too many times, people rather focus on her past or her relationship with BP, rather than all the great work she has done with the UN. AJ is an inspiration to many. She has shown that not all of Hollywood is fool’s gold, scandals and free swag.
Many people outside the tabloid world, have shown much respect and admiration for BP and AJ. I wish BAMZS all the best. It is good to see that they are having a peaceful and relaxing time in the Big Easy, NAWLINS or New Orleans for the rest of the world.

Angelina Jolie as a member of The Council on Foreign Relations will bring more attention to a lot of global issues, problems and humanitarian causes. The CFR is non partisan and Angie’s inclusion is based largely I think on how she defined being the UNHCR ambssador the last few years. She may not have the fancy Phd to her name but her knowledge of world affairs is from actual experiences she has encountered from war/tribal torn countries . She is more qualified than the other members of CFR who may not even seen one refugee camp in their lifetime.

This is a very influential think-tank.
I would like to agree with those who don’t think she’s qualified to belong to the group.
On the other hand, if all said about this thing is true, I guess whoever nominated her like the fact that she’s been personally to all those third world countries, the fact about her adoptions, and the money she’s been giving out to her cause. Of course, there are others who give, too, but perhaps the combination of what she has done and said is more useful of the cause.
Then again, I don’t think she should be a member of that club. They could simply have decided to consult her if they wish to hear her opinion. Or, they should change the name of the club a little so she could fit in it better. “Foreign relations?” I think all she represents is a willingness to help the poor in the world and being an example of it. But “foreign relations” is much more complex than a single-minded purpose that she has.
Angie doesn’t have an university degree, master programme or PhD.
She is out there and tries her best to do something good for humanbeings who need help. She is sincere about what she has been doing.
I do respect her highly, I am proud of her.
While the Janice Mins and the Boonie Fullers of the world try to bring her down, Angelina Jolie’s star rises.

For those who doubt her qualifications, I say that they need MORE people like her (Dr. Sacks for one) who actually know what it is like out there. Too many people with book learning and no practical experience is part of the problem. As someone who works in education, I see the horrid results of letting those with little practical experience dictate (or suggest) policy. When is the last time Dr. Rice went to a Third World country in anything but a suit and an air conditioned vehicle? Kissinger get his hands dirty? Never. How can people like that possibly “get” it?

Condoleeza Rice is a brilliant scholar on the Soviet Union. All that education has gotten her considered as one of the worst National Security Advisors of all time. She is, at this point, a shil for the administration. The advantage of having non-politicos on these Councils is that they bring a committment to the issues (in La Jolie’s case REFUGEES) above and beyond their politics or their day jobs. Maybe Angie will uncover some of Condi’s real opinions on matters after she’s out of office.
I think it’s great. This is a person who is admittedly self-taught and passionate about her areas of interest. Believe me, I talk to nothing but PhDs all day. A degree is no guarantee of engagement with the world, care about one’s fellow humans, or even of the sense it takes to navigate everyday life. I’d trade any 100 of them for a day to talk with Angie about her issues, her art, and motherhood.

I understand where you are coming from when you say that despite her good works, she is probably NOT at the same level as luminaries like Henry Kissinger and Alan Greenspan.
Angelina is probably just a term member of CFR. Term members must be between 30 to 36 years of age when they are nominated. So most people who are term members are relatively young and are probably not very experienced in foreign relations in any case.
However, it seems to me that the CFR deliberately created the category of term members and deliberately introduced the requirements of age (30 to 36) in order to attract young people who bring with them a fresh perspective and the voice of the younger people to foreign relations. YOung people whose views are not shaped by the Vietnam war or by the second world war and the Great Depression (henry Kissinger and Alan Greenspan are depression kids) but shaped by the internet, by globalisation at a speed never before experienced. (I didn’t get on a plane till I was 18, my daughter has been to more then 10 countries and she is only 5. She does have a far better sense of the world then I do at that age. She understands time differences, she will probably understand forex differences:)).
As far as young people go, then I think Angelina is a good choice. Sure, there may be phd holders who have the intellectual heft. But let me say, as someone who works and lives in a university community, there are plenty of post docs who just don’t get the big picture, who see everything in terms of numbers and statistics and not in human terms. Angelina may not be the statistician but may bring the human experience to these statistics.
Sure there may be business men and women who have been expatriates who could add value to CFR, and sure there may be men and women from the American foreign service who can bring much value to CFR. if these young people are any good, they probably can obtain nominations to the CFR as term members. I don’t see from its website that CFR is club that restricts how many term members they can admit each year. So other people can be admitted if they are good enough.
So it seems to me, Angelina will be good for CFR and I am proud to be her fan.

Congratulations AJ. No actor is more qualified than you to sit on that Council. She doesn’t have the academic qualifications, but she is as intelligent as any of the other members of the Council, and she is better loved in the world than some of the people on that Council. Therefore she is more than qualified. Just look at Peter Jennings of ABC, he didn’t have a college degree, neither does Bill Gates.
If **** CHeney can be on the council, Angelina Jolie certainly can. Cheney being on the same council as Angelia for foreign relations is a real joke. Other than, perhaps, one country(that is not third world), when has Cheney tried to help any third world countries.

And who obviously cares about others and noth just herself — particularly the disadvantaged. This is an example for many people to follow — not just other actresses and notables.

B5 creator adapting zombie tome for Paramount.

Michael Straczynski, the creator of the sci-fi series Babylon 5 who has also become a popular comic book scribe in recent years, announced yesterday that he is writing the screenplay adaptation of the zombie book World War Z for Paramount. The Max Brooks novel, which was optioned last summer by the studio for Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B, is subtitled An Oral History of the Zombie War.
“You all know the novel World War Z?” asked Straczynski of his audience during a New York Comic-Con panel on Friday. “I’m adapting that for Paramount. For Brad Pitt potentially — we’ll see what happens. He might be the star in it. So things are going very well for a TV guy.”
Straczynski acknowledges that the book needs to be modified in order to work as a movie, particularly since it is an anthology that features no main character or plot, but rather skips around through time via the recollections of the many survivors of a decade-long war against the living dead.
“What you have to do is… the book, if you haven’t read it, is a wonderful, wonderful book in an interview format after the zombie wars,” explains the scribe. “You see how we survived. It’s very political, very smart, very cagey, but there’s no main character. So you have to create who the interviewer is and give him some background and bring him from place to place to place to place. And they said, ‘Feel free to get as political as you want, as incisive as you want, to play with it. You could look at this as a Katrina kind of catastrophe.’ But I’m being very faithful to the book, letter by letter when I can, and I’m on about page 70 right now and I’m really happy with it. I’m really pleased with it actually, so if that goes well we might go into production on that one.”

ITA - well said. Having had the opportunity to work with both highly educated and self taught, alot can be said for the self taught. Certianly it depends on the personality of the person though. Without passion, a degree simply means you had the fortitude to get to classes, pass tests and pay the tuition. Like hunnybunny said, it does not guarantee any skills in dealing with people or automatically make you a better person for getting the degree.

She is an ACTOR not an Academic? It is so hard to take Americans seriously when you hear something like this. REPOST - regarding Oscar:
PR Media are trying to bring the JoliePitts under their thumbs with their threatening smear job. Thus, the passive-aggressive nature towards them. This is who I think is smearing them - the PR Media and the sellout newsmedias that prostituted themselves.
However, I believe Hollywood itself is very pro Brad and Angelina - thus, the positive comments from the cast of Heroes, to their friends that stopped by at their GG table like Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mark Wahlberg and Renee at the carpet. This is in addition to all the others like Queen Latifah, Anne Hathaway and Drew Barrymore.
Spielberg and Scorsese sent letters to the Producers Guild to argue Brad Grey and Brad Pitt’s inclusion into The Departed’s credits. Brad and Angie have very strong Hollywood circles around them - holding their back. I remember George Clooney putting himself out there against the media storm.
I think the PR media felt jilted and played by Pitt and Clooney with the whole marriage in Italy affair where they sent in teams of crew to Clooney’s villa. What a total embarassment to them. Pitt has been divorcing himself from tabbies and sensationalized media and Clooney and Pitt made sure to cut that cord the ugly way.
Thus, Pitt’s campaign to talk to only People as the lowest and the rest are foreign outlets and ‘legit’ news media like Newsweek and Time.
There are the conservative, old guard few that are afraid of shaking status quo - thus, the reaction of the Producers Guild to ultimately remove Plan B’s credit in The Departed. However, I think this is more to do with studio politics rather than Pitt’s public image. Warner still must not feel good about the whole Paramount jump.
So when I say I think they should have fun at the Oscars - good for the JoliePitts. Their peers would welcome this and enjoy their presence.
Oscars actually took an unprecedented push to have Grey and Pitt credited by leaving The Departed producer credits unstated all the way through announcements. However, Oscars respects the Producer’s Guild and in the end they succumbed to politics.
However, I do think Pitt was robbed in the Supporting Actor nom - if Judi Dench can get nominated for what - a one-liner in ‘Shakespeare in Love’ than he should as well for his part. Ohh, I still think ‘Shakespeare in Love’ was all Hollywood politics - that was totally overrated. How many more versions of Pride and Prejudice and Shakespeare do we have to see?? Come on, are we that poor in quality material that we have to import British themed repeats. Uhh.
Let’s get with the times!
On Jolie’s credentials for the Council of Foreign Relations:
Jolie has not just been a puppet of the UN showing up @ these war-torn countries to become a shooting target.
She actually talks to the refugees and people suffering to find out their needs and understand how best to help them. She has met with various leaders from all spectres of what’s left of the infrastructure to understand how to bring a semblance of order and bring back economic stability to their world. Thus, her meetings with various organization leaders, business leaders, Prime Ministers, and refugee workers.
She has also participated in many experimental programs to bring the usually tribal communities into the present economic times - ex. Millenium Project, the women’s empowerment projects by giving them new skills and business startup money such as the sewing community she set up. She’s also combined programs of environmentalism and jobs by setting up wildlife preserves and growing current ones.
She probably has more hands-on solutions to offer on the table then most think tank members who sees from an abstract perspective rather than from the human element.
Brad must be SO PROUD! I don’t think he’s ever had any woman in Angie’s caliber. Come to think of it - there probably isn’t at all combined in one package. PERIOD.

I dated a Director of CIDA for quite some time and the stories about Canadian officials sleeping with prostitutes, under aged girls in developing countries and the amount of money spent on overseas travel and business lunches is nothing you and your countrymen should be proud of. I think its wonderful and its like many groups and organizations, who look to those who would be outside their group norm to bring different perspectives and opinions. She’s actually been to these places and seen things that many of the people in that group have not, she can bring a unique perspective.

If you look at the CNN - 360 Degrees with Anderson Cooper during World Refugee Day, she was the one who removed the sensationalism from the conversation with Cooper about torture and children with lost limbs to bring it back to the causes of the war in Darfur. However, Cooper cut her off before she could finish. She was explaining the political boundaries had caused separations of ethnicities and had been taken advantage by various militarized groups. She goes on to say that the war can spread to the surrounding countries easily because of this.
If she was a ditz - political intellects like Powell would not waste their breath or an eye-blink even if she was pretty. They have enough political ineptitude among their own peers to add more.

Can’t tell if you were kidding, but Angie has written a book. Notes of My Travels, is a well written thought provoking account of her travels in Africa, Asia, and South America. When people write about or interview her very seldom is her book mentioned. I guess that would be too much, beautiful, actress, award winner, humanitarian, support of causes, mother, partner to sexiest man, and author. I like Brad more now since he has been with our Angie. I mean before, I always looked at him like a superficial airhead (probably still is). U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and movie actress Angelina Jolie today presented the fourth annual World Refugee Day poster awards at the National Geographic Society’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
“There is no better way to begin this important event,” First Lady Laura Bush told the winners in a taped message about this year’s World Refugee Day events.
Jolie is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). She also sponsors the annual poster contest, which encourages U.S. students to think in creative ways about refugees. As many as 40 million people worldwide may be refugees, having fled their home countries to escape danger or persecution.
The U.S. is the largest financial supporter of the UNHCR and some 2.5 million refugees have made their home in the U.S., Bush said. “It is important to make them feel at home,” she added. “The President and I are very proud of you,” she told the poster competition winners.
Three winners were chosen for their creativity and thoughtfulness in this year’s competition. Anna Mullen, a fifth grader from Northwood Elementary School in High Point, North Carolina, won in the 4th-to 6th-grade category. Phoebe Sturey, an eighth grader from Cochranton Middle School in Cochranton, Pennsylvania, won in the 7th-to 8th-grade category, while Tania Ku, a 12th grader from Saratoga High School in Saratoga, California, won in the 9th-to 12th-grade category.
The winners were invited to have their photo taken with Powell and Jolie, and were flown to Washington with their families for the ceremony.
UNHCR leaders and other guests were at National Geographic to celebrate the official launch of World Refugee Day events. In 2000, the UN designated June 20 as annual World Refugee Day to recognize and celebrate the contribution of refugees. More than a hundred countries take part in the event.
World Refugee Day brings worldwide attention to the struggles and challenges that the millions of refugees confront each year throughout the world. During the next few days, various events will reinforce this year’s theme, “A Place to Call Home,” by emphasizing refugees’ challenges relating to identity, community integration, and a sense of belonging.

Angelina is unbelievably beautiful, but she also has immeasurable depth and potential. No one had to tap her on the shoulder, shine a spotlight on her, or yell ‘Come on down’ for her to do her thing.
It’s sad that others are banking on those things, but hey, they’ll wake up, sooner or later.

First Church World Service Humanitarian Award
August 23, 2002, NEW YORK CITY - Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie yesterday became the first recipient of the Church World Service Immigration and Refugee Program Humanitarian Award. Presented during a national conference in New York City for the international humanitarian aid agency’s immigration and refugee workers and affiliate agencies, the award honored Jolie for her work and dedication as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Since becoming UNHCR’s spokesperson in August 2001, Jolie has mounted an impressive record of personal commitment, travel, financial contributions, and resources on behalf of the millions of persons being torn from their homes worldwide, in the face of war, conflict and oppression. In less than a year, she has visited refugee camps and met with refugees, officials, and aid workers in countries including Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Namibia, Cambodia, Pakistan, and Thailand.
Executive for Refugee Ministries, the United Church of Christ Mary Kuenning Gross presented the humanitarian award, which states that “Ms. Jolie’s work on behalf of refugees has made her a role model of individual humanitarian action, an inspiration to people around the world, angelinajolie.jpg (11572 bytes)especially the young. She gives a voice to the often forgotten refugees and displaced persons whose lives have been torn by persecution and war. Her active concern brings the promise of hope.”
Accepting the award for Jolie, who could not be present due to her filming commitments, UNHCR Regional Representative Guenet Guebre-Christos told the awards banquet audience gathered in Manhattan’s New Yorker Hotel that the Goodwill Ambassador “not only wanted to experience the trials and tribulations that refugees experience, but wanted to see the aspiration in their eyes.” Guebre-Christos said Jolie had that chance recently, when she accompanied a convoy of repatriées.
Jolie conveyed a message thanking “CWS for this honor and for recognizing my work as UNHCR’s Goodwill ambassador. In turn,” she communicated via Guebre-Christos, “I’d like to salute you all and all humanitarian field workers whose courageous work for refugees makes you heroes in my eyes.”
Jolie, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2000 for “Girl, Interrupted,” became acquainted with Church World Service’s immigration and refugee resettlement programs and advocacy work when the UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador visited Atlanta last fall. Wanting to learn more about the experiences of refugees who have resettled in the U.S., she met with CWS affiliate the Christian Council of Metropolitan Atlanta (CCMA), learning how ecumenical and church organizations make refugee resettlement services a part of their ministry. With CCMA’s assistance, Jolie also met with a group of Atlanta-area refugee women from Afghanistan, to discuss issues of violence against women.
On June 20 of this year, Jolie joined US Secretary of State Colin Powell for World Refugee Day ceremonies in Washington, D.C., commenting on the U.S.’ continued obligation to open its arms to immigrants and refugees. “The United States was founded by refugees. Those fleeing religious persecution in England were among the first settlers,” Jolie reminded, “and since then there have been many groups who have since called America their home. And throughout the last two centuries, we have opened our arms to refugees and immigrants.
“The strength of the United States depends on that very diversity. And by encouraging and teaching our youngest citizens about tolerance and diversity,” she concluded, “we can encourage them to make a difference for a much better world tomorrow.”
Shortly before attending the World Refugee Day ceremonies, Jolie completed an extensive mission visiting Columbian refugees in Ecuador, where more than 7,000 Columbian refugees and asylum seekers have fled and about 300 new arrivals are coming every month.
A generous contributor to UNHCR programs, Jolie contributed one million dollars to Afghan refugees last September. In May she donated 100,000 dollars to refugees for vocation and educational training programs to benefit refugees and community members living along the Thai-Myanmar border-predominately Karen refugees who have taken asylum from Myanmar’s ruling military regime.
On location for the international feature film “Beyond Borders,” Jolie visited Namibia’s Osire refugee camp in March. In addition to her personal, substantial contribution to the camp, the film’s production team donated 13.5 tons of food supplies, bedding and tents.
With a 50-year-plus commitment to the world’s displaced, Church World Service is an international humanitarian agency and ministry of the 36 Protestant, Orthodox and Anglican member denominations of the National Council of Churches USA, working in partnership with local organizations in more than 80 countries to support sustainable self-help and development, meet emergency needs, aid refugees, and address the root causes of poverty and powerlessness.
One of the largest humanitarian aid agencies, CWS administers refugee processing programs in Nairobi, Kenya, and Accra, Ghana, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of State. The two offices represent ten voluntary agencies in resettling some 20,000 refugees from sub-Saharan Africa in the U.S. each year.

This is a think tank. Ms. Jolie was nominated for membership. This is not a “job”. Think tanks of any worth have members of varied opinions. Politicos are more suspicious of actors than any one. If Ms. Jolie had not proved her committment to and ability to educate herself on the refugee issue, beyond giving money as a lot of people give money and are not asked to join, she would not have been asked to join. Agree with the other posters that say you don’t need a degree to be intelligent. I have 3 degrees and some of the most insightful conversations I have had are with people who may have only finished high school. Some of the stupidest, narrow-minded comments have come from so-called educated people. By the way, Ms. Jolie did attend 1 year at New York University.

Netflix Ships 1 Billionth DVD

Netflix Inc. delivered its 1 billionth DVD over the weekend, marking another milestone in the Internet rental service’s evolution from a peculiar dot-com to a marquee attraction in millions of homes.
It took Netflix (nasdaq: NFLX - news - people ) nearly 7 1/2 years to mail out 1 billion DVDs - about seven months less than it took McDonald’s Corp. (nyse: MCD - news - people ) to sell 1 billion hamburgers after opening its first restaurant in April 1955.
To commemorate the occasion, Netflix is awarding a lifetime subscription to the Helotes, Texas, customer who received the 1 billionth DVD shipped from one of the Los Gatos-based company’s 42 distribution centers nationwide.
Netflix didn’t identify the recipient because of its privacy policies but did reveal the title of the landmark DVD - “Babel,” one of the best picture nominees in Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony.
The Oscars play a big role in shaping the rental requests of Netflix’s 6.3 million subscribers.
“Crash,” the best picture winner at last year’s Academy Awards, ranks as the most frequently requested DVD from Netflix’s library of more than 70,000 titles. “Million Dollar Baby,” the 2005 best picture winner, is the fifth most requested rental.
But it doesn’t necessarily take a prestigious award to become a big hit on Netflix. The service’s second-most rented DVD is “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” a less acclaimed flick best known for sparking an off-screen affair between stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
Crossing the 1 billion shipment threshold provides further validation for a concept that was once was mocked as just another wacky idea to emerge from the Internet boom of the late 1990s. The achievement also provides another marketing hook for one of the Internet’s biggest advertisers.
Instead of fading into dot-com oblivion, Netflix is fast becoming as much of a household fixture as the living room couch. Last year alone, Netflix signed up 2.1 million new customers, who pay anywhere from $4.99 to $47.99 per month for DVD rentals that are requested online and delivered through the mail.
When Netflix delivered its 100 millionth DVD in May 2003, the service only had about 1.1 million subscribers.
Netflix success has inspired a copycat service from the nation’s largest video rental chain, Blockbuster Inc. (nyse: BBI - news - people ), which says it has dispensed billions of movies since its first store opened in 1985. Dallas-based Blockbuster has signed up than 2 million subscribers to its online service.
But Blockbuster’s challenge hasn’t derailed Netflix, which is now shipping an average of 1.5 million DVDs each weekday. At that pace, it will take Netflix about 2 1/2 years to mail out its next 1 billion discs.
But it probably won’t take that long, given how fast Netflix has been growing. Management believes the service will add another 1.7 million to 2.1 million more subscribers this year, leaving it with more than 8 million customers heading into 2008. Netflix hopes to have 20 million customers by 2012.
Whether the company achieves that goal may depend on how quickly major movie and TV studios de-emphasize DVD sales and rentals in favor of Internet downloads or other forms of “on-demand” delivery. If that happens, Netflix’s DVD-by-mail concept could become as outmoded as drive-in theaters.
Although Netflix doesn’t believe the shift to on-demand delivery will happen for many more years, management is starting to position the company for the change by offering subscribers a chance to watch a limited number of movies on personal computers equipped with high-speed Internet connections.

I just had to come out of lurkdom to do a big *HAPPY DANCE* for Angelina! She will be a breath of fresh air to the Council and will contribute her PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE to the discussions. She’s as well qualified as anyone else there and clearly they (her peers on the Council) believe so. Angelina is just getting started, so the haters better start getting used to these kinds of announcements - ha ha.

Enquirer Eager to Prove Aniston a Cokehead
Jennifer Aniston better keep her friends close, unless she wants to find herself on the front page of the National Enquirer. The tabloid recently offered a woman $20,000 in an effort to prove the former sitcom sweetheart is a cocaine user, according to sources.
The Enquirer’s interest began with a January 25 blind item in the New York Daily News’ “Gatecrasher” column. “That actress who had surgery on her septum? Who knew she still had one?” read the item. Speculation on gossip blogs centered on Aniston, who indeed had plastic surgery, allegedly to repair a deviated septum, last month.
Shortly after the item was published, an editor at the Enquirer contacted “Gatecrasher” writer Ben Widdicombe, asking for help getting in touch with his tipster. The editor offered to pay Widdicombe’s source $20,000 if she would take a lie detector test, which the Enquirer often demands to protect itself from libel suits. Widdicombe passed along the request to the source, said to be a friend of Aniston’s.
I’ll believe that Angelina is a true philanthropist when she passes on all the deductions you know she’s racking up.

No photo ops? Have you missed how EVERY entertainment show on tv has been talking about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and whether or not they will go to the oscars? They talk about what Angie might wear, how her hair will be done, how Elizabeth Taylor wants to loan Angie her jewels. The LA Times calls Pitt and Jolie one of Hollywood’s Hottest Couples, have a picture of them on their website and say how since Angie’s mom just passed away they won’t blame the Pitts for not going to the oscars. Tom Cruise has been pimping himself, his robot and their baby out and he gets barely a mention. The Academy organizers would cut off their right arms to get Brad and Angie to go. No photos ops my a s s! Brad and Angie don’t need to walk the red carpet to be relevant.

Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has been voted the sexiest person ever by television viewers.
A Channel 4 poll seeking to find out which stars are viewed as the most desirable of all voted the Tomb Raider star as the biggest sex symbol of the lot.
In fact the only fictional character in the top ten – Lara Croft at number six – could possibly have something to do with the actress who portrayed her in the Tomb Raider films – namely, Jolie.
Meanwhile Angelina can celebrate a clear victory over hubby Brad Pitt, who only managed to get up to fifth place in the poll.
Two old-time stars made up the rest of the top three, with Elvis Presley coming second and Marilyn Monroe third.
Beyonce Knowles, formerly of Destiny’s Child and now the star of the Oscar-nominated film Dreamgirls, came in fourth, while Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue was eighth.
But it was the Hollywood machine which came up with the rest of the top ten, with George Clooney in seventh, Johnny Depp in eighth and Scarlett Johansson in tenth place.

I don’t see any other stars bringing their daughters/sons to the oscar rehearsal, and my answer is, for attention. We haven’t seen Suri for the longest time, all of a certain, she was out in public with Katie and Tom’s mom, and that was a few days after we saw the picture of B&A with Zee and Shi, hey maybe it is all coincidence or maybe not.

claire, claire, claire……………if you admire Angie for all she has accomplished against all the odds she has faced, then by logical conclusion, you must assume that in choosing Brad, she has made a wise choice for herself. Although Angelina just by her mere presence has brought attention to the plight of many 3rd world countries…most of the publicity has been focussed on her as a star and her personal circumstances… as a consequence any positive contributions are undermined by her stardom which obviously diverts our attention from the more fundamental issues in these countries ie. violation iof human right health, socio-economic, political issues… Apart from the fact that Angelina Jolie may lack a formal education I believe the issue is whether she is value added or whether the fact that she is such a big star distraction…

I don’t know, there is just something about the choices made for the pictures and the particular words (”I just know your l-i-i-f-f-e-e-s gonna change”) (”waiting in the wings for the show to go o-o-o-n!”) that seem so perfect. She used very few older or posed pictures, just caught all those moments last year when WE were watching in the wings! Love ya, thank you both!

AG, I loved your comments. Not only respected people, but people who have either, or are still influencing world policies and politics around the world. These people, whether we agree with them or not, are some of the movers and shakers of the world. Jolie adds glamour to US think-tank

The dead-pan world of the Washington policy wonk looks set for a dash of Hollywood glamour with the nomination of actress Angelina Jolie to join one of the most venerable think-tanks in the US.
The Council on Foreign Relations, whose members include former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger and Alan Greenspan, former Federal Reserve chairman, decided on Friday to accept the 32-year-old to be considered for a special five-year term designed to “nurture the next generation of foreign policy makers”.
Membership would allow Ms Jolie access to 40 academic “fellows” – such as Joschka Fischer, the former German foreign minister, and Max Boot, a neoconservative military historian – and to meet current world leaders.
The Council does not require members to hold any particular academic qualifications. Ms Jolie’s formal education ended at a high school in Beverly Hills. Applicants must be nominated by one existing member and seconded with at least three supporting letters from others.
Ms Jolie is no stranger to international affairs herself, having travelled to 20 countries as a “goodwill ambassador” for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees since 2001.
She has also appeared twice at the World Economic Forum’s meetings in Davos, highlighting “the role the private sector can play in empowering refugees”, says the UNHCR.
Her arrival on the Washington beltway scene would mark another step by the actress into the off-screen political world that seems to be attracting more of her attention – and that of many of her Hollywood colleagues.

UNHCR alarmed over consequences for refugees of political upheaval in Chad
GENEVA, Apr 13 (UNHCR) – High Commissioner António Guterres said his agency was alarmed over the current violence in Chad and the possible consequences for the security and welfare of refugees from Sudan’s Darfur region in camps in the east of the country.
“I urgently appeal to all sides in this political upheaval to respect the civilian character of the refugee camps and to leave in peace those who have already fled the terrors of Darfur,” Guterres said.
Fighting was reported on Thursday between government and rebel forces in the capital N’Djamena, along with clashes in Adré in the east of the country, close to some of UNHCR’s 12 refugee camps. The situation in the camps was reported calm on Thursday morning.
After a large armed group entered and briefly took control of the Goz Amer refugee camp on Monday afternoon, UNHCR and partners started to reduce staffing levels in some field offices, but are still maintaining essential services in the camps.
UNHCR is also reviewing its overall staffing levels in the country in the wake of the fighting in the capital, and an evacuation of non-essential personnel and dependents is planned.
The High Commissioner has warned in recent months that the unrest on both sides of the Sudan-Chad border was posing a growing risk to civilians, the displaced, aid workers and to overall regional stability. The Chadian government has accused Sudan of aiding rebel groups.
Forced recruitment in March by unidentified armed groups in two refugee camps – Breidjing and Treguine – located between Abeche, eastern Chad’s capital, and the border town of Adré, was strongly condemned by the UN refugee agency. Earlier in March, there were reports of forced recruitment in Kounougou camp, near the town of Guereda.
Following these incidents UNHCR held high-level meeting with the Chadian authorities, stressing that the civilian character of the camps must be maintained at all times and reminding them that the primary responsibility for ensuring the security of the refugee camps on its territory rested with the Chadian government. The government promised to increase the deployment of gendarmes around the camps to prevent the entry of armed groups or individuals.
In southern Chad there are some 46,000 refugees from the Central African Republic sheltering in three sites. There have been no disturbances related to the current political upheaval noted around these refugee areas.

Can’t tell if you were kidding, but Angie has written a book. Notes of My Travels, is a well written thought provoking account of her travels in Africa, Asia, and South America. When people write about or interview her very seldom is her book mentioned. I guess that would be too much, beautiful, actress, award winner, humanitarian, support of causes, mother, partner to sexiest man, and author. She has gain respect by her sincerity and compassion as seen through her actions and deeds. She may not have a concrete evidence to prove her inteligence but her past interviews says a lot.
