OlderAngelina Jolie ‘Transformed’ in Chad

Here are some of the highlight’s from Angelina Jolie’s recent trip to a camp housing Darfur refugees in Chad via Newsweek:
…But you do have photographers following you now. It took me a while to agree to do it. I guess I saw that so many times the picture comes before the knowledge and the substance and I certainly didn’t want to do that to myself or the organization. And also, I really just was shy. I was shy about sitting on the floor and talking to a woman and having a camera take a picture because I thought it was making less of my conversation with her. But… I was changed by the faces of the people I saw. “It is something that I am incapable of describing…those faces and that place and those people. And so I think it’s just—let the people speak for themselves through the camera. And if I can draw you in a little because I’m familiar, then that’s great. Because I know that at the end you’re not looking at me, you’re looking at them.
Do you still go with so few people? I can’t believe you take no one with you… I take no one. I [go] by myself on a commercial plane and into the field with my backpack.
You still do that? Yes, I just did that on my last trip. I met the photographer there.
In the camp? No, in the airport. We didn’t even realize we were on the same flight. We landed at like midnight and got up at like 5 in the morning to catch the WFP [World Food Program] plane [to a town near the camp].
People will look at these pictures of you in Chad and ask, “What can I do?” What should they do? There are great NGOs like SOS [Austria's SOS Kinderdorp] and there are great NGOs inside and under the U.N. that you could send aid to. It’s important for the American people to know that a lot of people believe—I certainly believe—that it has been their outcry and their interest that has motivated our government. I think that the American people have paid attention to Darfur—a really amazing groundswell of people that really care, and are moved and emotional about the things they’ve seen when it is brought to their attention.

Ignore the haters, the stupids, the loonies, etc. They are so full of hate and ignorance that they can’t even produce an intelligent reason why they dislike this amazing woman. All of us have suggested they look at movies, stills, etc, that show her being the same size then as now. They won’t do the research. They just hate blindly. Plus neither Oprah nor Bill and Melinda have gotten down and dirty like she does. I consider myself to be a pretty well informed person, but I have learned somethings I didn’t know by reading her book and articles, truthful ones, about her travels. Don’t ask what is her point? What is your point? What are you doing? Why are you here? Not just on this site, but this earth? We all will be held accountable for what we did while here on this earth. For those of you who accuse her of being a home wrecker, you don’t know that. Look at your life, your records. Your thoughts. Remember God forgives whom he chooses, and rewards whom He wills. It is said that good deeds will follow long after a person is dead, and good deeds will wash away a mulitude of wrongs. Remember Angie was doing this before she met Brad, therefore she has a huge stack of good deeds. Hate slingers remember hate is a sin, and sins will get you only one reward, if that is what it is called. Wishing evil on a person, their children, their family is a sin. Peace.

Angelina is some amazing woman, isn’t she? I always have sympathy for the poor and homeless, but I don’t know if I could do what she did in this photo, which is cuddle up a boy with no underwear, who probably stank to high heaven, and yet Angelina was able to hold him as tenderly as she does with her own children. Her “vile, veiny, claw-like hands” were so gentle as she held this boy with such compassion and empathy on her face, it is unbelievable! This was probably one of the few times in this boy’s life that he had that kind of physical contact, and no matter what happens to him, the memory of it will stay with him as long as he lives.
Gosh, Angie, you are such a loving woman, no wonder Brad loves you so much!

Agreed. As if this small emaciated child tied to a post is only visible by some and the haters just missed that image. Their hatred does not alow them to focus on that child’s misery and instead they have to channel their ugliness onto the woman who is bringing attention to that child.
Fascinating. I thought my fellow Americans were more compassionate. Am I wrong?

I think a hater probably makes up his or her mind that he/she is not going to like or approve Angelina no matter what. It is a form of prejudice towards her to the point that they are blinded by their own hatred at this point. It is almost like they are at the point of no return. They almost get a high on this level of blinding hate they have in their hearts. So I suggest we leave them to their pitiful sad selves and just pray for them…

While I wholeheartedly commend what some like Bono, Opha, the Gates, have done for charity, Aids, etc., I must say that their messages never touched me in the way that Angie’s has done. I never felt as compelled, or as inspired, to really try and make a difference, and I believe that most of this type of ‘celebrity get acquainted to Africa’ missions, is due largely to Angie. JMHO.
YES! She definitely has all my votes for the Nobel Peace Prize. Not that I think she really cares about that.
