Angelina Jolie ‘Transformed’ in Chad

Angelina Jolie ‘Transformed’ in Chad

“If I can draw you in a little because I’m familiar, then that’s great. As long as [you] end up looking at them, that’s the point.” — Angelina Jolie on the power of celebrity.

Here are some of the highlight’s from Angelina Jolie’s recent trip to a camp housing Darfur refugees in Chad via Newsweek:

…But you do have photographers following you now. It took me a while to agree to do it. I guess I saw that so many times the picture comes before the knowledge and the substance and I certainly didn’t want to do that to myself or the organization. And also, I really just was shy. I was shy about sitting on the floor and talking to a woman and having a camera take a picture because I thought it was making less of my conversation with her. But… I was changed by the faces of the people I saw. “It is something that I am incapable of describing…those faces and that place and those people. And so I think it’s just—let the people speak for themselves through the camera. And if I can draw you in a little because I’m familiar, then that’s great. Because I know that at the end you’re not looking at me, you’re looking at them.
Do you still go with so few people? I can’t believe you take no one with you… I take no one. I [go] by myself on a commercial plane and into the field with my backpack.
You still do that? Yes, I just did that on my last trip. I met the photographer there.
In the camp? No, in the airport. We didn’t even realize we were on the same flight. We landed at like midnight and got up at like 5 in the morning to catch the WFP [World Food Program] plane [to a town near the camp].
People will look at these pictures of you in Chad and ask, “What can I do?” What should they do? There are great NGOs like SOS [Austria's SOS Kinderdorp] and there are great NGOs inside and under the U.N. that you could send aid to. It’s important for the American people to know that a lot of people believe—I certainly believe—that it has been their outcry and their interest that has motivated our government. I think that the American people have paid attention to Darfur—a really amazing groundswell of people that really care, and are moved and emotional about the things they’ve seen when it is brought to their attention.

Thanks Jared for deleting the nasty post.

It seems like the paps go out of their ways to create the news when nothing is happening. They run into celebs and accuse them of all sort of things while making money out of their pics. I think there should be a law to prevent them from getting too close.

Mongo Bongo….Because the haters are brain-dead zombies that lurk at night seeking people with BRAIN like here at BAZMS threads. Be careful those zombies are nasty & we should get rid of them. They are the pests that roam this world spreading their venoms.

hi, fug don’t be scared, i ‘ve been lurking for awhile and u seem to stand out above the rest becoz ur not really a fanatic or doesn’t hv much interest on the bamz threads , sometimes u just gave ur two cents or like words ” imao or lol…when responding or listening. then again, i think ur just here for two cents ,other times ur mean…oh my, but ths fine, i think they ( bamz) can tolerate u for being here sooo long. fug, u are the ” resident alien” living in justjared blog most especially in the bamz thread lots of cool people. but, am not stalking u, i am harmless…lol..besides u may like man not a woman…..a real man won’t join in a conversation of women everyday on a blog. i think ur bi…lol…w/c is ok, fug when u got it, just flaunt it! fug ur cool…lol..when ur temperature is down…

=======================

Is there a hollow bullet, a poison dart or can we just chant them into
outer space????

MB:

Mondo- Bongo– I have been here for along time, when it is full moon they even get worse. It’s hard to describe it, you would think that after over two years, three kids, lovings pics etc… the haters would move on. Nope, the idiots are still stuck 5 or 6 years ago in the canceled “friends” zone … Pathetic, but the only cure I see is; a complete labatomy for all of them, or we ignore them…. What do you think?

Mondo Bongo! @ 03/12/2007 at 11:21 pm

JJ…… two thumbs up!!!

Goodnite ~ all

WHOOOP. we have another idiot here….. OK, who is going to take “IT” on? Come on, I’ll bribe you with free drinks on the 17th cyber-party

The parents don’t look so happy but Suri has the cutest expression.

Mondo Bongo! @ 03/12/2007 at 11:33 pm

guli ~~ i think your right like [you know who] they want attention,
I’m with you ~~~ i will try but sometime they just make you
cringe…lol

givemeabreak Says:

Thanks for the opinion now off to FF with you.

Hi Mongo…seemed like the same hater on different name mode once again. What’s new? Me, I always use the this user name for a while. I posted some before on older threads but these haters always have new names all the time…just like ritzygal.

I how I wish we could just chant & let them get blasted into oblivion. Ahhhhh-Hummmm.

thisistoomuch @ 03/12/2007 at 11:39 pm

Yep, you got it right givemeabreak! You are a genius! They broth a blowing fan in the middle of a sand storm, like they always bring on all of Angelina trips in past six years.

givemeabreak Says:
You just can’t be this stupid. Do you see any electricity there? Do you not see people living in tents with dirt floors or mud walls with no roof? Do you not see people covered in dust and dirt? Do you not see the dust/duststorm blowing in this desolate desert? YOU ARE DISGUSTING!! WHAT A WASTE OF A HUMAN BEING YOU ARE!

Mondo Bongo— I know and trust me they have yanked my chain so many times, but I learnt my lesson, all they want is attention, like little kids!! So, I never directly respond to their posts , but do so in general …..

Staged WEST @ 03/12/2007 at 11:47 pm

Is this person talking about the staged arrival on LAX after the imaginary trip to London? Or the miraged relationship with the green giant? The butchered nose fairy tale? The supposedly boob job gone wrong? Or the latest spiritual camera guy so-called outing? It’s prostituting the media to the MAX!

And yes “givemeabreak” this goes to your beloved insane idol…the hag herself…JA

I have a theory-RGreen “Friends” fans are not just delusional, they are total idiots who lack any empathy for anyone because the synapses in their brains are nonfunctioning. Their brain cavities are just big empty spaces lacking any cognitive ability to distinguish reality from demented illusions.

givemeabreak Says:

another sarcastic remark from a sour puss. Okay , we heard you, now,you can go back to “Dustin Hoffman” thread, ooops, I mean Maniston thread and oogle at her renew nose, new boob.and listen to how she is coping .

sour and bitter @ 03/12/2007 at 11:55 pm

I think newsweek or time mag.should have an article or make an interview with Maniston. maybe this could stop her lunatic fans from coming here.

Suri looks cute on the pics but Shiloh is much cuter. Wait few more months & we will see Shi’s true beauty.

Los Angeles, March 12: Celebrity couples like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are more in the news for their relationship and scandals than about their successful and extremely busy movie careers.

Whether it’s Tom enthusiastically proclaiming his love for Katie on the Oprah Winfrey Show or the controversy that arose when Brad and Angelina adopted an African baby - each and every move by Hollywood stars means money for tabloid publishers and producers.

But hardly a word is ever said about the professional lives of these couples. Why? There’s nothing sensational or scandalous to report. Readers don’t want to hear about contracts and production deals.

If the careers of celebrities are reported, there’s bound to be a sensational angle to it. When Tom’s devotion to Scientology cost him his profitable partnership with Paramount Pictures, it made the headlines. But what was not reported was that MGM almost immediately invited him to take over United Artists as a producer.

When it comes to work, Tom’s plate isn’t just full, it’s overflowing.

He’s already working with director Michael Mann on “The Few”, the true-life story of American pilot Billy Fiske, who ignored his country’s neutrality rules during World War II and flew Hurricanes against the Germans.

His Cruise/Wagner production company is producing “The Winter Hill Gang”, the story of the 1960’s Irish American gang war. And in October he plans to release “The Eye” - a remake of Hong Kong film “Jian Gui” about a woman who receives an eye transplant that allows her to see into the supernatural world.

As if that isn’t enough to keep him busy, Tom, who produces an average box office gross of $100 million, is said to be keen on producing Paul W.S. Anderson’s “Death Race 3000″ and is also considering playing the lead in “The Fall of the Warrior King”.

Katie, who made her debut nearly a decade ago in “The Ice Storm”, hasn’t been idle either. She’s currently shooting the flick “Mad Money”, and may also play a part in Victoria Beckham’s upcoming reality show. All this, however, failed to capture headlines.

Brad Pitt has even been busier than Tom and Katie combined. While the media makes it seem he has been doing nothing more than adopting children with partner Angelina Jolie, he in fact has finished shooting one film, is currently filming another, and has roles in four more movies set for next year.

He joined up with director Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney for “Ocean’s 13″ - the third instalment of their original “Ocean’s 11″. He’s now reportedly filming “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, based on an F. Scott Fitzgerald’s story of an odd romance between a woman of 30 and a man who, at 50, begins aging backwards.

It’s rumoured that he will play a pivotal role in Ryan Murphy’s “Dirty Tricks” on the Watergate scandal. Brad has also been signed to star in “State of Play” and “Dallas Buyer’s Club” as well as in Steve Conrad’s “Chad Schmidt”, in which he plays himself and his look-alike!

Angelina too has been on her toes. Three films she’s worked on are “A Mighty Heart”, “Beowulf” and “Kung Fu Panda”. She is now ready to star in Randall Wallace’s “Atlas Shrugged”, based on the 1957 novel by Ayn Rand.

What also doesn’t make it to the tabloids is her work as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Last month, Angelina completed a mission to a refugee camp in eastern Chad that enabled her to assess how the security situation has deteriorated for Sudanese refugees since her last visit there three years ago.

On the other hand, had Brad and Angelina been spotted at a high profile restaurant, the paparazzi would have swooped in to capture anything on film.
Such publicity, however, sells tickets, which is exactly what the studio heads want.

Hollywood Studios spend on average $50 million-$100 million on the publicity of a film weeks in advance of its opening. But a controversy, which is free of cost, actually amounts to better advertising. At least now you know that it’s not mere coincidence that a scandal happens to a star right before the release of their movie.

As long as Hollywood studios have their way, the world will continue to be fed with controversy surrounding stars like TomKat and Brangelina, as it drives people into theatres. After all Hollywood is all about show business.

What a bogus article. Most of the time there is nothing “going on” in these people’s private lives, so the tabs keep inventing, creating and outright putting words in these people’s mouths just to have a reason to put them in the “magazines”.

I love the idea that she approached the UN to take the initiative on dealing issues regarding refugees. As a student majoring in international relations, I understand the high priority of maintaining and promoting security among people on African, Middle East, and Asian countries. I could kinda see the frustrations and difficulties that Angelina has been going and went through upon making the lives of various refugees for the better. That’s why I know she is really really serious about this issue. She’s really a one of a kind…c”,) It would be an honor to meet and hopefully even work with her on international affairs.
