Angelina Jolie ‘Transformed’ in Chad

Angelina Jolie ‘Transformed’ in Chad

“If I can draw you in a little because I’m familiar, then that’s great. As long as [you] end up looking at them, that’s the point.” — Angelina Jolie on the power of celebrity.

Here are some of the highlight’s from Angelina Jolie’s recent trip to a camp housing Darfur refugees in Chad via Newsweek:

…But you do have photographers following you now. It took me a while to agree to do it. I guess I saw that so many times the picture comes before the knowledge and the substance and I certainly didn’t want to do that to myself or the organization. And also, I really just was shy. I was shy about sitting on the floor and talking to a woman and having a camera take a picture because I thought it was making less of my conversation with her. But… I was changed by the faces of the people I saw. “It is something that I am incapable of describing…those faces and that place and those people. And so I think it’s just—let the people speak for themselves through the camera. And if I can draw you in a little because I’m familiar, then that’s great. Because I know that at the end you’re not looking at me, you’re looking at them.
Do you still go with so few people? I can’t believe you take no one with you… I take no one. I [go] by myself on a commercial plane and into the field with my backpack.
You still do that? Yes, I just did that on my last trip. I met the photographer there.
In the camp? No, in the airport. We didn’t even realize we were on the same flight. We landed at like midnight and got up at like 5 in the morning to catch the WFP [World Food Program] plane [to a town near the camp].
People will look at these pictures of you in Chad and ask, “What can I do?” What should they do? There are great NGOs like SOS [Austria's SOS Kinderdorp] and there are great NGOs inside and under the U.N. that you could send aid to. It’s important for the American people to know that a lot of people believe—I certainly believe—that it has been their outcry and their interest that has motivated our government. I think that the American people have paid attention to Darfur—a really amazing groundswell of people that really care, and are moved and emotional about the things they’ve seen when it is brought to their attention.

Jolie can pick up the child anytime after the application is approved, he said.

The child was abandoned at a Ho Chi Minh City hospital as a baby and then taken to the nearby Tam Binh orphanage, where he has lived ever since, said Nguyen Van Trung, the orphanage director.

Shortly after he arrived at the orphanage, the Tam Binh staff tried unsuccessfully to locate the boy’s birth parents.

“He is in good health,” Trung said. “He is a little bit shy.”

The boy gets along well with other children and loves to play soccer, Trung said.

The adoption is being processed quickly because the boy is an older child, and his files were nearly complete before Jolie decided to adopt, Trung said.

Jolie and Brad Pitt have three children: 5-year-old Maddox, adopted from Cambodia; 2-year-old Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia; and another daughter, Shiloh, who was born to the couple in May.

The pair made a surprise visit to the Tam Binh orphanage at Thanksgiving, when they were spotted cruising around Ho Chi Minh City on a motorbike.

The Reeler reports that Angie might debut as a director in A Moment in the World in 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. I was always wondering when this documentary would be released. This movie was shooted in January in 2005 and has been in long post production. I don’t know if Angie is in this movie but Ann Hathaway went to Cambodia and Jonny Lee Miller went Afgan and Gosling is also in it. Don’t know details but it is a 70minutes movie about a same moment in various places in the world. I can’t wait her behind -the -cameradebut. I’m not sure but Tribeca is end of April ? Hope this report is true.

wow! that fast?good!then anjie will be preggy in the middle of this year.hmhmhhm faniston!hard to handle heh!

OK I will compromise: They can keep his Vietnamese name officially, and use as anickname the name Maddox apparently already chose, according to interviews with Angie. Maybe it’s Shark Boy.

It’s time! It’s time!! Time to get a Vietnamese nanny, to help the little guy transition!

He can play soccer with Maddox.

The poor guy, “he’s a little shy,” says the orphanage director. He is in for the shock of a lifetime: a brand new language, L.A., paparazzi, “the biggest personality” (as Angelina calls her) Zahara screaming at him every day. But once he’s transitioned…….YA HOOZY FOR HIM!!! HOORAY! ANOTHER OLDER CHILD FINDS A HOME!!!!

Maybe Brad and Angie will adopt more older kids, since the paperwork for this guy is going so fast.

China is out of the question for BAMSZ. They have created new rules and will not take singles starting May 1 (or anyone over 50, for that matter, or anyone who is obese!!! Those are their new rules!).

Anyway I think Brad is still banned from China for his movie about Tibet.

Come home, little Vietnamese boy, come home to the best family in America!!!

++++++++
wow, they actually arrested them.

Can we make a request to delete the animal shelter story, it is distracting since it is not true.

Knowing the heart of a person is better than viewing the outside. Angelina I commend you for your spirit and personally would like to meet with you someday. You lend your aura to the world and it brightens even the dimest of hearts. Watching you cradle that child reminds me so much of what is missing in life.

konnitiwa @ 03/13/2007 at 9:04 am

South Vietnamese and Cambodian people looks like and North Vietnamese and Chinese looks like. May be the reason of the boy from Ho Vhi Minh.

And one more thing about the movie above. Angie financed it and Holly is one of the producers.

Official: Angelina Jolie Free to Get New Son Soon
TUESDAY MARCH 13, 2007 09:10 AM EDT

By Pete Norman

A Vietnamese official says Angelina Jolie’s adoption application is being processed quickly and she might be mom to a new 3½-year-old son within weeks.

Officials in Ho Chi Minh City are reviewing Jolie’s file and should be finished by March 31 at the latest, the director of Vietnam’s International Adoption Department, Vu Duc Long, told the Associated Press on Tuesday.

Jolie, 31, will be free to pick up the child any time after the approval is granted, he said.

Long told the AP last week that the boy is from the Tam Binh orphanage on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City, which Jolie and Brad Pitt, 43, visited over Thanksgiving.

Orphanage director Nguyen Van Trung tells the AP the boy Jolie plans to adopt was abandoned at a Ho Chi Minh City hospital as an infant and then taken to the orphanage, where the staff tried, without success, to locate his parents.

“He is in good health,” Trung said, adding that he gets along with the other children and likes playing soccer. “He is a little bit shy.”

Trung also said Jolie’s adoption is being processed quickly because the boy is older and his files were already nearly complete.

Vietnamese law makes it difficult for unmarried couples to adopt so Jolie is applying solo, but she and Pitt had planned for months to welcome a Vietnamese sibling for Maddox, 5, Zahara, 2, and 10-month-old Shiloh.

It was a “process that began shortly after Shiloh was born [in May],” a source told PEOPLE in its most recent cover story.

But it wasn’t until March 2 that Vu Duc Long revealed Jolie had filed to adopt in Vietnam, a country which, a source close to Jolie told PEOPLE, has a complex and thorough screening process for foreign adopters.

Sorry for the duplicate story. Great minds think a lot. Please ignore. I think this comment section is on time delay.

Please everyone, make sure you thank the right person for posting the adoption article, u don’t want to be accused of not having integrity
