Angelina Jolie ‘Transformed’ in Chad

Angelina Jolie ‘Transformed’ in Chad

“If I can draw you in a little because I’m familiar, then that’s great. As long as [you] end up looking at them, that’s the point.” — Angelina Jolie on the power of celebrity.

Here are some of the highlight’s from Angelina Jolie’s recent trip to a camp housing Darfur refugees in Chad via Newsweek:

…But you do have photographers following you now. It took me a while to agree to do it. I guess I saw that so many times the picture comes before the knowledge and the substance and I certainly didn’t want to do that to myself or the organization. And also, I really just was shy. I was shy about sitting on the floor and talking to a woman and having a camera take a picture because I thought it was making less of my conversation with her. But… I was changed by the faces of the people I saw. “It is something that I am incapable of describing…those faces and that place and those people. And so I think it’s just—let the people speak for themselves through the camera. And if I can draw you in a little because I’m familiar, then that’s great. Because I know that at the end you’re not looking at me, you’re looking at them.
Do you still go with so few people? I can’t believe you take no one with you… I take no one. I [go] by myself on a commercial plane and into the field with my backpack.
You still do that? Yes, I just did that on my last trip. I met the photographer there.
In the camp? No, in the airport. We didn’t even realize we were on the same flight. We landed at like midnight and got up at like 5 in the morning to catch the WFP [World Food Program] plane [to a town near the camp].
People will look at these pictures of you in Chad and ask, “What can I do?” What should they do? There are great NGOs like SOS [Austria's SOS Kinderdorp] and there are great NGOs inside and under the U.N. that you could send aid to. It’s important for the American people to know that a lot of people believe—I certainly believe—that it has been their outcry and their interest that has motivated our government. I think that the American people have paid attention to Darfur—a really amazing groundswell of people that really care, and are moved and emotional about the things they’ve seen when it is brought to their attention.

Brad had long hair probably start shooting for Troy. so this video was on 2003 where their marriage was almost over. Agree with cliniqua, why took that long to dump this *****? He’s been bully by that self-absorbed ***** for 7 long yrs. why that long?

Angelina is the real American angel, American should be proud of her! She and Brad are the cream of the crop. At a time when half of the world was so anti-america, you still had person like Angelina who can change our perception.

annesoinca @ 03/11/2007 at 3:47 am

I went to Chad so I know the feeling. It’s really really poor. If you don’t have an escort the police arrest you so that they can get their salary. We really need to help these people and I’m glad someone like her makes the first step.
You guys can criticise her as much as you want but i bet you can’t even locate Chad!!!! At least she’s trying!

why bringin that shit into thi @ 03/11/2007 at 3:48 am

is it too much to ask, why keep bringing up that fugly X in here? this is Angie’s thread and about her serious work! can’t you guys stop bringin that ***** name over here??? there’s a thread somewhere which is more appropriate for dissing up that *****, but please stop making her relevant by mentioning her fugly ass in every BAMZS thread!!!

Passing Through @ 03/11/2007 at 3:54 am

Jared…what the hell is wrong with you? You forgot to give proper credit for the information that led to creating this new thread! I am so, so shocked at you!

Just kidding…I was over on the other thread just now getting caught up and I came about the silliness of what I am calling CreditGate. That was just about the most asinine discussion I’ve ever seen here and whoever started it ought to have to sit through a 24 hour X Movie Marathon. That sh#t was just retarded.

Oh yeah - before I go to bed - still working on the tab report…probably not gonna be finished with it until mid-afternoon tomorrow. Real life rears it’s ugly head and I got suckered into doing something for someone in the A.M.

why keep bringin that **** into this thread!!!

Dear Angelina it’s great to see you drawing attention to Darfur.
But you should take care of your health first and foremost.
There are so many articles that you’re losing your weight so much.
I study medicine and sometimes weight loss imples cancer so honey take care of yourself. Do some regular checkups.

Wow. This is all I can say.

This woman is incredible.

Instead of saying much, I am posting my check for a donation to Darfur tomorrow. This is how I can prove that I am TRULY a fan of this extraordinary woman.

These pictures are hauting.

Hey guys, we get 1,000 posts alone just talking about how wonderful Angelina is.

Imagine if half of those 1,000 posts sent a dollar to Darfur. That’s already $500.

Imagine what we can do.

Let’s show the world what BAMZS fans are really about.

Go ahead and give money to Darfur.

Let’s show how incredible Angie’s fans are.

her face tell’s the horror of what she is really seeing I just can’t help but feel how shallow the other pictures are of John and Jessica going shopping and on and on this is real this is a gut wrenching situation that I was totally removed from till i saw these picture’s and damn it if she doesn’t look even more beautiful.
She is a real honest careing human being and the picture’s say alot she is for real what can I do to help these people I can only make a small donation since i raise my grandchildren.

There are many many people admiring and supporting Angelina, but I do agree with 63. you can only help when you take care for yourself first. All the bad-mouth gossips are silly and have no influence on those people who share the values of humanity, beauty and righteousness.

prediction @ 03/11/2007 at 5:18 am

jolie’s going to get some humanitarian or nobel prize this coming year…that, or she’s the reincarnation of mother teresa.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

You’re a friggin’ idiot.

The point is no matter how bad Angelina Jolie may have it as you assume, she is worlds away from the horror of the people of Darfur. So that is why Darfur needs immediate attention.

Charity is not what you do when things are ok at home and then you decide to help.

Charity is helping despite what your shortcomings are.

Charity is giving even when you don’t have.

Charity is giving even when you yourself are a work in progress.

Charity is caring for a complete stranger even before your own.

Mother Theresa was a stick when she was working in India. So was Audrey Hepburn when she was a rep for UNICEF. They did not stop their work to got fill themselves with weight gain milk shakes before deciding to help.

Help if you have one leg to walk on.

Help if you have one eye to see.

Help however you are and however you can. Misery and famine and hunger cannot wait for us to work on ourselves first before we help.

Darfur is in a state of emergency.

Angelina Jolie is sophisticated and compassionate enough to understand this.

What don’t you take a moment, just one moment, to ponder on the innocent children in those pictures instead of your assenine passive agressive attacks on the woman responsible for you even knowing that some 7 year old kid accorss the continent is scarred for life because his entire village has been nearly destroyed.

You insensitive specimen of vermon you.

greetings from Holland,

good morning, evening to all of you, here in Holland a beautiful sunny day, and Jared thank you for a nice thread, guys, i am just overreated what i’ve seen on those pics, what a amazing woman Angie is. if i looked those pics again i am ashamed to myself, honestly, if i had a chance to hold that boy(who is as same age of my son) and i would be scared or yikes ( i don’t know what a correct words) feeling, BUT Angelina does not those feelings, and she beautiful and than me or any other woman, I think that foto it’s beautiful that i ‘ve ever seen of Angelina.

What an amazing woman she started her work six years ago before Brad pitt. Now together they will help a lot of people and its good to see that the criticism is not slowing her down. These critics are not interested in helping at all.She knows what she wants and you can tell that she is moving forward with her work and her family

What I see is a woman who is very strong, very determined, committed mother and partner totally different from the weak person the tabs want to make her.You go Angelina we know you will continue to inspire a lot of people.God bless you.

It looks they are going to spend a lot of time in NO

She is very authentic, her sensitive is true. I admire her because she is a very honest woman: she does everything with heart..Angie and Brad are a fantastic couple, i’m happy that they find each other.

HOTTEST COUPLE EVER @ 03/11/2007 at 5:54 am

She never ceases to amaze me. She is truly a remarkable young woman. Brad must be very proud.

I admire this woman. This Newsweek interview is so powerful and it puts everything in perspective. The whole Hollywood circus is so laughable, especially when compared to places like Darfur where people’s suffering is almost unbelievable. And those shallow people dare to critisize good people like Angie. Shame on them. The pics are also beautiful, and I must say this is how a real article is written, a real interview is conducted. Brad must be very proud of his woman. God bless her!

HOTTEST COUPLE EVER @ 03/11/2007 at 5:58 am

#68 Team Lara Croft …you are a “gem”. Thanks for that great post!

Thanks Jared for a thread dealing with Angelina’s visit to Darfur. I really liked the interview and photos.

Evelyn, just so you know, every “small” donation helps. These people are living for less then US$1 a day. If you donate just one dollar, you are helping some one live another day. And if you look at the faces on the videos, the young still have hope. They want to live that one more day. So, though most of us here are not going to do an Angelina Jolie or Mia Farrow or be an aid worker on the field, our financial donations will really help.

Also writing to our nations leaders to let them know that the situation is just so unacceptable. I want to say at this point that the world is waiting for someone to act - presumably the US. This is wrong. For better or worse, there should be other nations who are willing to help and send troops. I am disappointed with other great nation states for not doing something, including Australia, my own country. We are all sitting around waiting for the US to do something about Sudan. Why is that?? Where is the EU leadership on this point?? Chad and Sudan are much closer to Europe then to America. Does anyone have an explanation? I’m not criticizing yet, but I am curious.
