Angelina Jolie ‘Transformed’ in Chad
“If I can draw you in a little because I’m familiar, then that’s great. As long as [you] end up looking at them, that’s the point.” — Angelina Jolie on the power of celebrity.
Here are some of the highlight’s from Angelina Jolie’s recent trip to a camp housing Darfur refugees in Chad via Newsweek:
…But you do have photographers following you now. It took me a while to agree to do it. I guess I saw that so many times the picture comes before the knowledge and the substance and I certainly didn’t want to do that to myself or the organization. And also, I really just was shy. I was shy about sitting on the floor and talking to a woman and having a camera take a picture because I thought it was making less of my conversation with her. But… I was changed by the faces of the people I saw. “It is something that I am incapable of describing…those faces and that place and those people. And so I think it’s just—let the people speak for themselves through the camera. And if I can draw you in a little because I’m familiar, then that’s great. Because I know that at the end you’re not looking at me, you’re looking at them.
Do you still go with so few people? I can’t believe you take no one with you… I take no one. I [go] by myself on a commercial plane and into the field with my backpack.
You still do that? Yes, I just did that on my last trip. I met the photographer there.
In the camp? No, in the airport. We didn’t even realize we were on the same flight. We landed at like midnight and got up at like 5 in the morning to catch the WFP [World Food Program] plane [to a town near the camp].
People will look at these pictures of you in Chad and ask, “What can I do?” What should they do? There are great NGOs like SOS [Austria's SOS Kinderdorp] and there are great NGOs inside and under the U.N. that you could send aid to. It’s important for the American people to know that a lot of people believe—I certainly believe—that it has been their outcry and their interest that has motivated our government. I think that the American people have paid attention to Darfur—a really amazing groundswell of people that really care, and are moved and emotional about the things they’ve seen when it is brought to their attention.

Actually Clooney got his involvement in Africa started because of Brad. Clooney said so himself. If I remember correctly Brad told him of his trip to Africa when they were filming Ocean 12
She has a lot of compassion, obviously not there for publicity, and whoever says otherwise is either blind, unfair (which is really the same thing) - or just plain lying.
I will say though; the razor-thin cheekbone in pic 8 really indicates she should gain a bit. She looked amazing in pics where others said she was too thin (e.g. New Orleans), but she’s now getting gaunt…
#132 What is her point ?
If you really want to know what she has accomplished then you would have read that she is very active politically . She has been instrumental in getting a bill passed to help legally the immigrant children bought here , she has worked with politicians towards getting help medically , and economically for the people in these UNHCR countries , she has donted her money to build schools and orphanges and I’m sure I could go on and on .
Does anybody know where I can send Angie a letter. I am so impressed by her unselfishness, courageousness and a very loving heart.
Anyone heard from Passing Through? I didn’t miss her did I?
To all those who defame her, I ask one question. How many of you would do this if you had the means? Yes, all the hollywood elite seem to think Africa is the cause of the day, but I don’t see them opening themselves to hug a naked emancipated child. You go Angelina! I am inspired. I don’t have much to contribute but, I will do something.

Thanks Amaya. Mia did a great job showing the beauty of the people but also the terrible things happening to them.
Reading the article, i felt spent. I can’t imagine how emotionally draining these trips must be for Angie. I truly believe that God sent Brad to her to comfort and take care of her as she gives herself selflessly to the world. God bless her and her family.

Angie inspired us all. From a wild and lost person she has transformed herself into a good person who has purpose in life. Way to go Angie.
Hey [Ugly] I guess you can call me that, since I’m not a groupie or fanatic to anyone. So other than a ball juggler what category would you be in [Ugly ******] ?
#149 Gia,What are you talkimg about? These pictures are older than the ones from last Monday when she and Brad where walking in NO and she DID NOT look gaunt.I am really getting sick of you fake fan’s and the she is to thin crap.Go rent Girl interrupted or the Bone collecter Angelina has ALWAYS been thin.Yes she gained pounds for Tomber Raider but once the reshoots were done she went back to her normal size. Also did you read the article? The woman didn’t get any sleep while in Chad. Then night she landed at Midnight she was up at 5am catching another plane. She looks beautiful to me and you know she had to be exhausted from the flights.

hi greetings from Holland,
ITA with you, that what i meant, Angelina went to the places which dangerous, dirty
but she is not have ahorrible feeling, her aim is help people, what i say Nicole Kidman of other celebrity goes to charity but always with people sourround them clean, of fotos with children with uniforms, Angie’s not, look at her ,holding a dirty without underwear boys, but she’s hold him so touched, even Audrey Heburn has not a picture hold a child so, i admire Angelina, she open my eyes that everybody is the same, so i said shame you people, that stil and always badmouth about her
I think she is wonderful for her taking her time to shed light on these situations and she and anyone else who does this work should be commended for it, not mocked and ridiculed.

Just so you know, she is also foster mother to alot of the kids who eventually leave these camps. She stays in touch with them as well as support them financially.
Please stop repeating trash. This is a serious article. Let’s not take away from it.
