This is the passport photo of Angelina Jolie’s newly adopted 3-year-old son Pax Thien Jolie (born Truong Quang Sang) that was attached to the passport application filed at the immigration office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on Friday. The very first photos of Pax were posted here.
Angelina and Pax (along with Maddox, Zahara, and Shiloh) will fly home to Los Angeles after Pax’s passport and visa have been finalized.
Lao Dong (Labor) newspaper reports that when Angelina and Pax first met, she quickly embraced him and told him in Vietnamese “Khong sao dau, khong sao dau” (No problem, no problem) and immediately started playing with him.
Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reports that Pax can count from 1 to 10 in English and his favorite foods include fried noodles and yogurt.
The adoption agency that Angelina used issued the following response to clear up rumors regarding Pax’s adoption.
“In applying to adopt 3-yr-old Pax Thien, Ms. Jolie followed the same course as all prospective adoptive parents who apply to our Vietnam program. Throughout her adoption process, which began in the summer of 2006, she has received no preferential treatment from the Vietnamese government or Adoptions From The Heart, and contrary to earlier reports, her application was not fast tracked.
Despite rumors that she chose her child, Ms. Jolie received a referral, just like any other parent adopting from Vietnam. In late 2006, she was referred a child who had been legally determined to be available for adoption and who fit within the parameters for which she had been approved to adopt. She accepted the first and only referral given to her.
In addition, we can confirm the statement given by Nguyen Van Trung, Director of Tam Binh Orphanage, that Ms. Jolie has neither made, nor promised to make, any financial contributions to his orphanage. Adoptions From The Heart celebrates the miracle of adoption with the Jolie-Pitt family, as we do with all of our clients, and wish them much joy.”

I’m so happy for them and little Pax. Poor llittle fella is probably overwhelmed at the moment. Are we sure the girls are there too? I can’t imagine Brad at home without any of his kids….must be killing him.

Its’ so refreshing reading about a child being given a loving home compared to celebrities out shopping,flaunting their snatch or picking their nose…its flatulence compared to someone to who has a conscience and a heart. Pax is beautiful as are all the children of the world. The mix of Vietnamese and Cambodian is wonderful it is heartwarming. My fantasy would be for her to adopt from Iraq that really would be a smack in the face…especially to the neo-nazi like policies of the current government. They and their followers must really hate this couple intensely. Perhaps all the nasties that appear on various blogsites could be referred to as NNs?

As Original Curious mentioned, Brad must be going crazy without his woman and his kids around him. I know the look in my husband’s eyes when my daughter and I go somewhere without him at least for a week. He always has tears in his eyes while welcoming us back.

The “miracle of adoption” is right and it is to be celebrated. JJ, I really appreciate knowing that there is a new cause for Joy in the land of JP. He is adorable.
This summer is going to be so much fun for all the kids. Shiloh walking or starting to, Zahara talking, Pax learning English (I think he and Zee are going to be close — hope she doesn’t bogart the snacks!) and Maddox leading the reindeer games. What a great feeling B&A must have of joy and anticipation. The senior Pitts will be in heaven, I’m sure.
I have a few friends with four kids, closely spaced in age. I couldn’t do it myself, but they seem to love it and they can afford it, so more power to them — and that goes for the Jolie Pitts too. Enjoy.

Can you imagine how Mad is taking a role of big brother, teaching him English, preparing Pax for the BIG trip? I am sure this will be Pax’s first flight on an airplane! I first thought it might get a little complicated to have two boys of similar age (sibling rivary, you know) but now I think they made a great decision. It really was a good idea bringing Maddox along. Smart thinking on their part. What better way to ease Pax into the family than bringing his big brother. Can you just see Maddox, waving the Paparazzis off and saying “Ahh, crazy people. Pay them no attention”
I hate to demean this thread by mentioning her name here but I hope this clears up any lingering questions Ms. Tatiana Beams International Adoption Extraordinaire, has about this adoption. It would be nice if she wrote an article correcting her mistake…but then again, that will mean it truly was a mistake.
Oh well, as long as the JPs are happ…the likes of her can go somewhere I won’t mention.
For those that think that the JP’s received preferential treatment I think it’s called ‘the propaganda machine’. Only the stupified would believe it. It’s sad and a shame that you can’t legislate against stupidity.

I’m glad that there are people in the media that are beginning to see the real Angie and defend her on television. I noticed that Angelina is at ease in learning new languages. Good for her. There are people that can convey easily in any tongues. It only means one thing…Angelina is very tolerant person & accepting of people of different backgrounds.

At home, they got their first soccer teams for a practice. “Boys” and “Girls”, Shiloh will be goalkeeper for the girls!
Most probably, next adoption will be an African girl. Then, dad Brad might start praying to have a bio son to keep his team equal with mom’s team.
Maddox must be very happy to have a brother now. There is another target for Shiloh for a cookie; maybe Zahara might eat her cookie in peace now.

After 15 years all the children of the Jolie-Pitts would start speaking English, their own mother tongue and probably French.

Sarah, when running your own company, you can’t just pick up and leave whenever you want to. Brad has taken almost two weeks off from filming when Marchelin passed away. Don’t forget the two girls (shiloh and Z), at least one parent needs to stay with them. It’s true, you can’t always take the little ones on long trips. Plus, Angie is not going to be in Vietnam for long. She’s probably on the way home now as we speak. I am sure of it Brad want so much to go with Angie to welcome Pax home, but there are other priorities at times and depending on circumstance (s).
I am sure Brad can’t wait to see them home and welcome Pax!:)

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam: When Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt showed up at a Vietnamese orphanage last fall, most of the staff had no idea they were Hollywood superstars.
“They looked very much like ordinary people,” said Bui Thi Bich Tuyen, a nurse at the Tam Binh orphanage where Jolie adopted the newest member of her family, 3-year-old Pax Thien Jolie, on Thursday.
“We thought that they were just an ordinary couple that wanted to play with the kids and give them presents,” Tuyen said. “They brought lots of toys.”
Jolie shared crayons and drew pictures with the kids. “We could already see that she had a heart for children,” said Tuyen, the nurse who had been in charge of raising Pax ever since he was brought to the orphanage as an infant.
“His Vietnamese name was Truong Quang Sang, but we just called him Sang,” Tuyen said. “He is a very lively boy, but sometimes when he met strangers he would become shy and often cried.”
Tuyen said Pax was of average size for a Vietnamese child his age — 92 centimeters (3 feet) tall and 14.5 kilometers (32 pounds).
“He is just a little boy, so I don’t think he understand the big change that has come into his life,” Tuyen said. “He is very lucky to be adopted by a famous star.”
About 350 children live at the Tam Binh orphanage on the outskirts of Vietnam’s booming southern business hub, Ho Chi Minh City.
Pax shared a room with about 25 of them, where they slept in two rows of beds in a 30-square-meter (320 square-foot) room.
Now he is staying in a Ho Chi Minh City luxury hotel with his mother and his new brother, 5-year-old Maddox, whom Jolie adopted in neighboring Cambodia.
It was not known how long Jolie would be in Vietnam, although one of her representatives said Thursday that she would probably stay until sometime next week.
In an interview in Friday’s Ho Chi Minh City Law newspaper — published by the city’s justice department, where the adoption ceremony took place Thursday — Jolie said she hoped also to take her children to the capital, Hanoi, and to a Vietnamese beach.
Asked about the media attention generated by the adoption, she was quoted as saying, “Photographs and press coverage will make him (Pax) upset. I’m very worried about that. I would like to say I’m sorry for bringing this into Pax’s life.”
“I’m not making any movies right now,” Jolie said in the interview. “I will stay at home to help Pax adjust to his new life. I have four children, and caring for them is the most important thing for me at the moment.”
U.S. officials must issue a visa before Pax can travel with his mother to the United States. Visas are usually issued in Hanoi, about two hours north of Ho Chi Minh City by plane.
In addition to brother Maddox, Pax’s other new siblings are 2-year-old Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia; and another sister, Shiloh, born to Jolie and Pitt in May.
Pitt did not travel to Vietnam with Jolie this week. She filed the adoption papers herself because the couple are not married.
Like Tuyen, orphanage vice director Ho Thi Kim Thoa had no idea who the superstars were when they first turned up at Tam Binh during a surprise visit last Thanksgiving.
“We did not realize that they are famous movie stars until the next day, when we saw their photos in the papers,” Thoa said.
Another orphanage staffer, who identified herself only as Yen, said she was also surprised to learn she had crossed paths with Hollywood stars.
“I wish I had known,” Yen said. “I would have brought a camera with me and had my picture taken.”

Its great that the US adoption agency came out and said what needed to be said - that:
(a) Angelina applied in summer 06;
(b) she didn’t pick a beautiful child but took the first and only one shown to her.
Now, I do think Pax is a beautiful child, just like all children. Even the little one who had to be tied to a pole so he won’t run away and who won’t speak in the refugee camp in Darfur.
Angelina’s adoption agency has now stated that all was done according to the rules and no preferential treatment was given to Angelina. Advocates should never shoot their mouths off first without checking their facts and doing their homework. I don’t believe Tatiana BEams is a hero in the adoptive community hahahahahahahah.

Funny, I got that picture in my head too, Mad and Pax playing soccer together! Wasn’t Mad in a soccer team? Also Pax likes to play soccer, that’s great. Something to do together and bond, that’s familiar and tangible.
Also, at the last adoption, the rumor was that Brad said to baby Zahara, “how do you like your new mommy and daddy?” I just can’t help myself imagining how Pax is going to meet his new daddy. Oh my, he gets to call Brad Pitt “Daddy” lol!!

You seem to know so much about Brad, the ins and outs, his schedule.
Why does it matter if Brad is there or not, the point is that they are making such a huge difference in this world and particularly in this child’s life. Even if you don’t like Angie or Brad, you have to recognize what a wonderful and special thing adopting an orphan is. “I will stay at home to help Pax adjust to his new life,” Jolie told the Ho Chi Minh City Law newspaper. “I have four children and caring for them is the most important thing for me at the moment. I’m very proud and happy to be their mother.”
Jolie adopted the 3-year-old Vietnamese boy on Thursday, during a ceremony at the Ho Chi Minh City Justice Department, which publishes the newspaper.
Since she arrived in Vietnam on Wednesday night, Jolie has been hounded by a jostling horde of photographers and reporters, who followed her from the orphanage to the Ministry of Justice for Thursday’s ceremony.
Jolie said she was sorry that her new son had to be exposed to such a media frenzy and expressed concern about how it would affect him.
“Photographs and press coverage will make him upset,” Jolie said in the interview, which was published in Vietnamese. “I’m very worried about that. I would like to say I’m sorry for bringing this into Pax’s life.”
Jolie’s oldest son, five-year-old Maddox, came with her to Vietnam, where she is expected to stay until next week. Her other children are 2-year-old Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia, and another sister, Shiloh, born to Jolie and her superstar partner Brad Pitt in May.
Ever since she was young, Jolie said, she has wanted to adopt children.
“Everyone would agree that children need to have a family,” the paper quoted her as saying. “I have the ability to help children fulfill that desire. Why should I say no?”
A nurse at the orphanage where Jolie adopted the boy said staff there didn’t realize she and Pitt were superstars when they first visited last year.
“They looked very much like ordinary people,” said Bui Thi Bich Tuyen. “We thought that they were just an ordinary couple that wanted to play with the kids and give them presents. They brought lots of toys.”
Jolie shared crayons and drew pictures with the kids. “We could already see that she had a heart for children,” said Tuyen, the nurse who had been in charge of raising Pax ever since he was brought to the orphanage as an infant.

I think it’s great that the family can operate in separate units like this.

This must be a nice holiday for Jolie and her kids. It seems Jolie’s been under ‘house arrest’ where the kids are concerned for awhile with the Papz hounding them. Do we actually KNOW that the girls are with Angie? There seems to be a great deal of confusion about that. I’ve read that they are and that they are home with Brad. I think if it were me, I’d leave the girls home. Not only because of the attention they would pull away from Pax (from Angie), but because I think Brad would go nuts if all his kids were away.

He helped her through losing her Mom and must be very happy that she’s bouncing back and not turning her tragedy into a self-pity, helpless, dragging emotional-drain blackhole where the whole family would be distressed by this.
Instead, she is channeling this into a positive, family-building, loving world for their children that THEY are BOTH expanding consciously.

lurker, i don’t think even that would help b/c brad says almost every time he is interviewed that his family is everything and that they are going to add to their family and then when it comes to fruition, ignorant people act as though it wasn’t a mutual decision and act stunned. some people just live in the past and refuse to accept the happiness of others.
Please let’s decide to keep this thread positive, whether Brad is there or not. Yesterday the haters said Angie took a short cut, today we found out she did not. Please srop taking a lead from the hater’s story. It makes the board messy.
I believe I read that Brad has an iron-clad contract that says no leaving on vacation or missing shooting etc. So due to the length of time that it would take for him to leave and go pick up Pax, he probably would have broken contract. He is one of the most professional people in lala land and I don’t think he would do that. He has too much respect for his director and the people he works with to break his word unlike the Lohans, Hiltons and Spears of the world.
Secondly, I don’t think Angie is staying home forever to be an at home mom. I think, based on what she said, she is staying home to help them all adjust. She has several films in the future pipeline. But then, Brad and Angie do bring the kids to the set. Either way–stay at home or picking a film once and awhile–she is a great mom. You can tell by the closeness with all of the children in pictures (and yes you haters there are Shiloh pictures out there where she is showing her ‘blob’ lots of loving). She is so protective and loving as is Brad and the children do come first–so I think Pax is one lucky little guy!!!
Thirdly to the haters–I suppose you think it would have been better to have Pax left in the orphanage for the rest of his life. Older children are not exactly hot commodities in the adoption world. If you are so concerned, why don’t you start the process to adopt from this orphanage. You will see Angie was given NO preferential treatment. She had already completed all of the home studies and preliminaries with Maddox and she did not need to repeat most of those. So what was left was to follow Vietnamese law which states adoptions take from one month to over a year. If she had received preferential treatment she would have gotten a child in less than a month. This took almost 8 months.

From the information at hand, except for promotion for her new films and UN work, Angelina does not have anything scheduled for 2007.
She does have in 2008 the movie with Eastwood (if everything goes as planned) and I think the screenplay to Atlas is close to being completed so that may start production in 2008/2009.
So she has plenty of time to hang with the kids.
Since Brad was a Scott’s production, I hope there will be some information on
AAOJJ soon.

But it’s so obvious to even the casual observer that there is obviously some sort of master plan at work here. I guess the word “plan” would freak most haters out because it suggests togetherness and common goals. I agree that Brad & Angelina could do such an interview, it would be ignored, because creating a family foundation together is not as sexy a Brad & Angelina out on the town together. They have been ignored before because many act like Brad has never mentioned anything about having a family and others act like this recent adoption of Pax is on a whim when Angelina clearly, on her first interview right after Shiloh’s birth that adoption is up next. Even before that she’s said she wants to adopt a bunch of kids from all over the world. Brad & Angelina have planned out their lives so that they are away from each other no more than a week at the most. Brad said to the media “I want my family with me”.

I have to agree with Paula there, though!
I do think Jolie is going to redefine what a contemporary housewife will be. Already, she doesn’t fit into the ‘working for a living’ model because she has the luxury that most women in her income bracket level have - called freedom of controlling her time-schedule.
Her version of housewife would be putting the family first and foremost especially in these formidable years but, does not mean she is abandoning herself or her other obligations. These just have to understand the priority that her family comes from.
That is how the working woman pushed forward the ‘daycare’ centers. We are all learning to redefine.
I don’t think she will be the ‘Stepford’ wife version because that kind-of-wife would not have gone to Vietnam by herself with kids in tow.
I do believe this was suppose to be a quiet week for Jolie and the kids. Somehow, Jolie has not mastered the art of evading papz since she never cared to evade them! She has nothing to hide and behaves that way.
For goodness sake, her real first night out in New Orleans, she gets caught dancing away!! LOLOLOL!!!
There have been so many pics of Jolie with Mad and she went about her business as long as they were not threatening to her.
Whereas, Pitt likes his privacy and has mastered this and gets only a lucky few papz to actually catch him with the kids.
Again, this is Jolie and Pitt’s lives. They are doing what make them happy! As long as the couple is happy with the decisions and compromises they are making - that is all that counts. They should be given the room to grow, change and become as individuals, as a couple-unit and as a family.
Come on! What do you think happens to the ‘housewives’ of Bono from U2 during their World Concert (where they are gone for an ENTIRE 2 YEARS) or Jon during the Jon Bon Jovi Concert Tour (where they were gone for a entire year)
Yet, these guys are still with their longtime loves and family (and their families are BIG - 4 to 5 kids AT Least!!)
What’s important is that they are BOTH on the same page. Look at the phone calls during the whole adoption time. That’s not behavior of a couple who are drifting apart. They are redefining themselves to accomodate growth!

Can it be that Brad stayed behind to decoy the PAPS from ambushing his family in Vietnam. Can you image the spectacle if both of them went to pick up Pax. I bet you the PAPS barely had time to pack up there socks and get there butt over there to take the one million dollar picture before Angie and company pack up the kids and move on to another town. THINK people Brad is known for staying one step ahead of the PAPS. He was a decoy, that’s why he is in L.A.
Exciting times. So glad that Jared posted the correct info regarding the adoption and timeline etc — I think “little UN” passed that on to him. Another insightful person who seems to have some experience in these matters is “cat” - here is a post from her on the end of last thread. I agree with her - so far Angie has put in the time and effort to learn phrases from the lauguage - has travelled with Maddox to his homeland and I’m sure she will do the same for Zahara when she is old enough to know a little of what is going on. This is a very smart lady who has overcome her immaturity in her past and moved on to a life of giving to the less fortunate. She never ceases to amaze me.

One thing that I know that Angie will do is give that child pride for his homeland.. That one of the things that I notice about Angie, is that she never force Mad or Ze to forget thier homeland. She build school, orphanage, have project in Mad and Ze name.. so that they when grown up will continue to help his/her country and take pride in were they came from…. And that is so important as a human being… remember were you came from, but also be prideful of who you are.. I’m sure that the Jolie-pitt already have some project in thier mind for Pax homeland.

People kill me with their concern over Angelina’s statement. She said that she was taking time off last summer, just after Shiloh was born. She worked for one month on AMH and people shouted ‘hypocrite’. She has done some UN work, but again, she spent most of her time with her family. Now, Brad had to work on O13, Benjamin Button, and promoting Babel. With the exception of the Babel promotions, he was rarely away from his kids and Angelina. And yet, people are trying to criticise these two. Brad Pitt is hanging with the Scott Brothers while Angelina’s in Vietnam…Oooo.
Next time, pyschos, bring a stopwatch and time how long Brad was there.

i have no opinion overall of either angelina or jenn and i’m not on anyone’s side. but, i can’t get over the fact that she changed the kid’s name. that’s totally inappropriate. it’s not a new pet, it’s a child with a story and a background and a life up to know. she is part of his life, but she wasn’t there from the beginning and has no business renaming him. I used to like her children’s names but now they’re just shaping up to sound like a group of Transformers.

To burlyhurly aka ritzy, trying to ascribe a Maniston like obsession with the rags to Angelina is ridiculous. Angie isn’t paying HuvaneCO 10 million a year to plant, leak and track stories in the media, nor does she have paid for trollers on blogs - no, unh-uh…THAT would be Jennifer Aniston.
Also, PR agents on Angie’s behalf aren’t out setting up smear jobs in papers of note on their ‘Gossip’ pages (PAGE SIX & Tatiana, Caryn James B.S. piece, etc) — because Maniston and Huvane invest more time in their management of rag stories and their smear campaigns against Angelina and Brad — and not ENOUGH time on Maniston’s own no-talent, mediocre burnt toast of a dwindling career.
As a result, we have situations like the Sh*tiana Reams Smear Angelina Jolie Campaign….where her job is to POSE as some high powered adoption advocate (which she is NOT), and allude to representing adoptive parents in a prominent agency type situation (which she does NOT) - and MALIGN Angelina Jolie. Except this time was DIFFERENT, she didn’t just leave her lies and fakery at the NY Post’s PAGE SIX, she took it abroad, to Viet Nam.
That’s right, she actually made herself sound like some officiating agency (which she is NOT, she is a FAKE as we all know) — and made it a point, using these false premises and made-up credentials, to try to intefere with and disrupt an individual family’s adoption.
A family, that Beams did not know, nor did she have any first hand knowledge of the facts surrounding their adoption(s). Facts schmacts! That doesn’t matter when you’re an unscrupulous gossip page hiring a hit-man (woman) like Beams however - what matters is the thousands of hits/results you get when you google Beams, and you can read her inferring that Angelina is cheating the adoption system, and by association that there are agencies and foreign countries helping her do it!
Not only is this legal SLANDER IMO, it endangers adoptions and kids and families. If I were Beams I’d have the NY Post hire a lawyer for me. Seeing as it that Beams, contacted the foreign officials in Viet Nam (Duc Long) and made official sounding complaints and vague threats to them. I would say Gonzalez, and the agencies involved, are most likely eager to clear cr*p up like Beams tried to spread themselves.
Angelina did not necessarily have to have know sh*t about Sh*tiana Reams, or the inferences floating around the media that Beams and Page Six tried to spark, as Beams chose to involve herself in the Jolie adoption with foreign officials - and was speaking with newspapers without contacting Angelina or Brad for info or doing any research herself on Viet Nam’s criteria to adopt.
It was all speculation on Page Six’s and her part - designed to malign Angelina Jolie. They were not interested in facts - or helping children or adoptive families. That’s the ugly crime of it all.
These entities and the adoption agencies involved want to set the record straight, on their own behalf - and to correct the misinformation that can come about when rabidly jealous haters and evil PR monsters going after one beautiful young actress with a big heart, are actively behind these types of smears, and unfortunately also end up smearing not only the process of adoption itself in general, but the wonderful agencies that bring families together. They want to clear things up for themselves - and are eager to do it, in the face of the lies and machinations in the tabloid and gossip press.
Well here we go again - same old tired stuff repeated over and over. Brad is working - period. There could be many, many reasons why they decided he should stay on the home front - one could be work - one could be taking care of younger children anD other could be not to overwhelm Pax with too many new faces at one time - Angelina and Maddox are more than enough. We just don’t know the dynamics. Last night on the old thread a poster was once again reciting a bunch of stuff that was just not true. Even though lots of official statements had gone out about the adoption these people either don’t read or just want to continue controversy. Even some “fans” don’t appear to read enough - they also continue trying to defend stuff that has been shown to be false and does not need defending by them - it just keeps it going. Anyway, below is a post and response from the last thread. Maybe people will read it and move on. Also read what Jared has at the top of this thread.

Riviera, regarding your post - has it ever occurred to you that taking these children a way from poverty and giving them a loving home, and education and someday a lot of money can benefit the country of birth. One day they all could be advocates for their own countries in ways that we can’t even imagine. It’s destiny. These children were chosen by the orphanages - the Jolie Pitts did not pick them (talking about Pax and Zahara here) they were sent a file on the child who were chosen to fit the family. J & P could have rejected either child but they didn’t. Also, I read on a Vietnam adoption site ( can’t find it now) that up until the age of 9 it is okay to change childs name - after 9 it is okay only with consent of child. Seems to me that if the Vietnamese authorities deem it okay to change the childs name and they are very child oriented then it is okay to change the child’s name. In addition if you had read some of the official reports coming form the orphanage you would see that this has been in the works for almost 1 year. No corners were cut - not deal with the promise of money were cut. All requirements were met and now we have the wonderful results.

I disagree with you.. many people who’ve experienced adoption through different ways have come out and said (in this forum to be precise and others) that a name is reallly not a big deal. Yes, the little boy knows it by now but in time, he’ll come to know the new one as well. And, it is my opinion that the JPs will call him by the name he knows mixed with the name he’ll come to know. Don’t worry, really, that little boy just won the lottery and I’m not talking about the money, but about the family he’s now become a part of.
I think the fact that Angelina changes the kids names to Jolie-Pitt instead of Pitt-Jolie shows that she really has faith in Brad. When she adopted Maddox ‘alone while married to Billy Bob’ his name was Thornton-Jolie not Jolie-Thornton. Brad will adopt Pax within months in not weeks.

I think they came back to LA to work on the special effects for this movie. IMDB shows that they are working with Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) . From what Fincher said about the new technique being used, Brad face will be used on different bodies. Thus Brad had to do all the scenes even of the childs. Who knows where or if Sara check but I do know that Brad and Angelina aren’t dumb. They know people are always looking into their lives and trying to find a gotcha moment.
I love the name Pax Thien …. which means heavenly peace!

1. Pax was abandoned as a nameless new-born and registered as Pham Quang Sang by the whim of some bureaucrat in the Vietnamese legal system. The name was not the meaningful bequest of loving parents. If the kid was American, an identical bureaucrat would have called him John Smith. Or even John Doe.
2. No American parents would keep this exact original name. In Vietnam family name come first, then a middle name chosen from a very short list of possibilities and at last the given name. So if AJ and BP had decided to keep Pax’s Vietnamese name he would in effect be called Smith Doe John.
3. So I suppose all the onomastics experts (cof) who have been criticising AJ will graciously concede that she would at least have to change the order of the kid’s names – which gives us Sang Quang Pham.
4. And the same onomastics and adoption experts (cof cof) will also kindly concede that she would have to change Pax’s meaningless surnames to those of his parents – which gives us Sang Jolie or, in the near future, Sang Jolie-Pitt (gosh, they will go cuckoo again next week when Brad and Angie petition the American courts to change the surname to Jolie-Pitt due to Brad adopting the kid).
5. Those onomastics, adoption and child psychology experts (cof cof cof) will moreover benevolently concede that a toddler is not particularly attached to a middle name, which is usually more symbolic, frequently used to remember an ancestor, a patron saint, some cultural heritage. Thus accepting that AJ is not endangering Pax’s well-being by choosing a symbolic middle name, such as Thien – which gives us Sang Thien Jolie-Pitt.
6. Now, dear beloved onomastics, adoption, child psychology and pedagogy experts (cof cof cof cof), we may surely agree that little Pax is going to grow in a western society, as a member of a western family, with at least (gosh they will go absolutely bananas when the next pregnancy is announced) three siblings who all have meaningful given names lovingly chosen by their parents?

what’s wrong with changing of name? most eastern asian will add another western name or change their name when migrating to any english speaking countries. aside from assimilating to their new homeland, it’s much easier to pronounced and remember. beside Pax original name was given by the orphanage not his bio parents. Brad and Angie will be his parents, they have every right to give him a new name. deal with it !!!!!!

OFF TOPIC A LITTLE: does anyone here know quite well about a SPINAL CORD EPENDYMOMA? a friend of mine has it and seeking as much advice as he possibly can. i have been doing research, but i still can’t comprehend the whole thing. he has it in the lower spinal cord since he was a child, but didn’t know about it, until he fell so hard from snowboarding and felt the pain in the lower back. got MRI done and showed the tumor is in his lower spinal cord sitting on the top of the left side root nerve! the tumor spreaded to his left side back and causing the weakness and stiffness in his left leg. some days he can feel his left leg and some days he can’t feel it as it is numbed. a major surgery to remove is a must since they can’t stick a needle to get the sample of the tumor for treatment. well, it’s pretty big and surgery is a must to remove as much as possibly can and give chemo and radiation treatment after the surgery. he’s been seeing surgeons, one say the negative outcome that he might become paralyze after the surgery because it involves nerves, but “maybe”. one surgeon said the negative outcome he could lose his bowel movement or could cause bladder, which he doesn’t have any of those now. if anyone here knows anything about it, please let me know what you think and recommendations. thank you!

All the reports about who are in Vietnam made me confused.
Is it really that Brad stayed behind in LA while Angie brought all 3 kids with her to meet their new brother? I though only Angie and Mad are there. Angie brought the girls along, too? Waw, it’s gonna be tough to handle all the young kids, now plus Pax, on their way back home, and the fact of it is a long trip will not help much. Holly must be with her, or at least some other companion. I don’t really think the bodygards would be involed too much with taking care the kids.
I understand that Brad has to commit to his movie. But at least he can keep the girls at home with him, if it’s true. Brad should be able to help take some burden off Angelina’s shoulder. She carries just too much on her. I want to see she can take a bit easy.

Here is a story from someone who got her name changed.
I was born in Nigeria, my father left home coming to American before he knew my mother was pregnant with me. To make a long story short, never knew my mother my grandfather raised me, saw my father once a year when he came home to visit. When I was nine he finally sent for me to come and live with his wife and my little sister. I was 9 years old, my given name was a long Nigerian name, even the nick name my Grandfather called me was long. When I arrived in America speaking little English going to school with little girls name Britney, Sara and Jane, I felt out of place even more because no one could pronounce my name properly, I found later that the reason the girls did not want to talk to me in the beginning was because they could not pronounce my name. Even my teachers had a hard time, this was in grade 4. Kids can be very cruel at that age, 2 months in going to school I changed my name to an American version of my Nigerian name. It just made it easier to assimilate.
Now imagine Pax situation being at home hearing all this American names around him and not having one of his own. The whole point is to help him adjust; make him feel like one of the family.
Anyways to this date when I go for a Doctors appointment and have to use my real name I always know when it’s my turn to be called, they always stop and reread the name and speak slowly, by this time I have my bag in hand and walking toward them already.

Competition to adopt Vietnamese children is fierce with adoption agencies of 60 nationalities represented in the poor, communist-run Southeast Asian country of 84 million people.
While some people complained at the preferential treatment given to Jolie, several parents said the boy’s welfare was the most important issue.
“The real concern should be the future of the child, not who the parents are,” said one French single mother who adopted her son from Vietnam in 1994.
“Is it a crime to give money to an orphanage? Could we forget the fame and just think of the child?” she asked.
Senior officials said the adoption was put on a fast track, partly due to Jolie’s celebrity status and the age of the child, who was abandoned at birth.
Some Vietnamese involved in adoption said Jolie made a donation to the Ho Chi Minh City orphanage where she adopted the boy on Thursday, although no one is saying how much. Less wealthy people have also done the same.
Many adoptive parents are moved to donate toward humanitarian causes such as the care of people disabled by chemicals or unexploded ordnance from the U.S. war in Vietnam that ended 32 years ago when the communists unified the country.
American Jolie adopted the boy, her fourth child, just over than a year after the first licenses were issued to U.S. agencies under a new adoption agreement signed in July 2005.
Jolie visited Vietnam in November and filed papers in early March. The length of time it takes to adopt in Vietnam varies, with an average of about six months, sometimes longer.
CRITICISM
Jolie and pop star Madonna, who is in the process of adopting a baby boy from Malawi who currently lives with her in London, have been criticised for using their celebrity status to bypass laws. But this puzzles many parents.
“Whatever is going on in the Jolie-Pitt family is none of your business,” one blogger, identified as Sandra Hanks Benoiton wrote on http://international.adoptionblogs.com
Psychotherapist Beth Dobrish and her husband Jeremy of Maplewood, New Jersey, in the United States adopted a baby girl from Vietnam last year and found the process complex.
Dobrish said in an email to Reuters that international adoption is “very problematic in many ways, with a lot of people doing their best.
“I like to believe Angelina and Madonna are doing the same. I don’t find their actions any greater or worse than any average person adopting,” she said.
Others say the state-run system is corrupt because of a multi-layered process that involves agencies, central government, provincial government, police and orphanages.
Most Vietnamese adoptions are by French citizens, but the number of U.S. citizens adopting is expected to increase.
There were 1,200 international adoptions in 2005 and 1,500 last year, according to government figures. The government said it wants to increase the number to about 1,800 this year.
The boy, renamed Pax Thien Jolie, is Jolie’s third adopted child. She has a biological daughter with partner Brad Pitt.
Outside the justice department building where Jolie signed adoption papers on Thursday, a Vietnamese mother, Nguyen Thi Thuong, 39, had high hopes for the boy’s future.
“It is lucky for him. It’s wonderful to be adopted by someone really famous. You can have a good life,” she said.

Stop with your fake concern. You do realize that because she is with Brad that she now has 4 children. When she was single, she thought she’d only have maybe 3. IF she could handle it.
But, now that she’s got a loving and supportive partner that also wants to have alot of kids, she’s actually able to fullfill her/his/their dream of having a large family.

Amazing how the media got Pax’s passport photo already. I have to confess my guilt - as much as I want them to have a smooth transition and privacy I go searching for new information - mea culpa. Hopefully when they get state side they can put Pax under the radar like they did with Shiloh for a few months - they obviously know how to do that. Looking at the photos it look like someone jsut managed to snap a shot here and there but when the videos go up and you see the invasive action of the media while taking the shot it is pretty amazing to know that that is what they confront all the time. We get the fruit which appears to be just a cute little picuture - they get the agro and viloence. Sorry to say I know I am a part of this.
The note that she left in the Guestbook at the Orphanage is now on the web. They are really selling everything aren’t they. The Director of the orphanage can’t seem to keep away from the press. I think he is enjoying his 15mins of fame a little too much. At this point I wouldn’t be suprised if they sold his test results to the highest bidder.

Is this a joke? I doubt she really cares if the general AMERICAN public doesn’t like or respect as an actress b/c those ppl don’t vote on major awards like the oscars and such. All that matters is that Angelina loves and believes in the roles she choose to play and what her industry believes.
The simple fact that her name is being mentioned with the likes of Clint Eastwood and others is telling about her talent and what her industry thinks of Angelina Jolie as an actress. Producers, directors, actors, and critics alike know that Angelina is one heck of an actress and those are the opinions that will keep getting her jobs.

Angie was a n Oscar awardee and multiple golden globe awardee. she’s a good actress. I know the only role of Angie which was panned by the critics and public was Olympia in alexander. others incluidng Sky and tomb raiders were mostly raved. I don’t think most films of Kate W. Cate B, Rachel W were all blockbuster. these actresses have more flops than successful films. while I think its unfair to compare Angie with Merly Streep. how old is Angie and how old is Meryl ? beside Merly is already a legend. at this moment, no actresses can be compare with her .

Funny - the movies you mentioned Anonymous-253 does not have her in it as the lead role. Yet, from all the critic review of those movies - she has always been said to have performed amazingly: the pilot role she played in Sky was intended to be expanded into her own movie and the mother figure in Alex even overshadowed Kilmer and Farrell. Her characters are memorable - even the small scene-stealers like Gone In 60 Seconds.
(Mind you, Sky fell apart because of the BAD acting of Paltrow. She was laughable and idiotic in that one. People were walking out before the movie got halfway where Jolie’s role was because of how horrible she was)
And, where she is lead like TombRaider - her films did very well!
Rachel’s and Kate’s movies in recent years weren’t moneymakers as well, just critically-acclaimed. However, these ladies have had experimental movies as well that were overlooked.
As for Jolie, she is has both the respect of the movie industry and the very huge ‘international’, generation and gender-reaching fan base!
Jeez - Rachel just won her Oscar for Best supporting in 2006, Angie has had hers since 2000. She has NEVER been nominated before her win in the Oscars.

Angelina already has recognition in her industry as being a good actress from her peers, thus all the awards (oscar, golden globes) given to her. Now she focuses on selected movies that tells stories that has meaning and has a message like A Mighty Heart, although stories like that are rare to find. She also does movies in general to generate income to support her humanitarian work, her family and to stay in the public eye so she can use her fame to shine the spotlight on her humanitarian causes.

But no, I believe you when you say you are not a Maniston fan because you have not made death wishes on BAMPZS.

no….he doesn’t have a history except that he was abandoned and was taken care by the orphanage….he is one of severals orphans taken care by employee of said orphanage….they named him whatever they think should be his proper name…..now, he has a history, a family who claim him as a member, a part of this family, a new beginning….and what is it to you if she changed his name…..did they asked your opinion???….the nerve!!!….he’s her son so butt off!!!

Angelina already has recognition in her industry as being a good actress from her peers, thus all the awards (oscar, golden globes) given to her. Now she focuses on selected movies that tells stories that has meaning and has a message like A Mighty Heart, although stories like that are rare to find. She also does movies in general to generate income to support her humanitarian work, her family and to stay in the public eye so she can use her fame to shine the spotlight on her humanitarian causes.

Last night I watched Showbiz Tonight, only after I saw a post on the other jj thread about Angie. AJ Hammer had two women on discussing Angie’s adoption. It seems AJ has had an emphany of sorts since last week. Well one of the women, I think she was from the Post was asked what she thought about Angie adopting the little boy from Vietanam? She didn’t have anything too negative to say about that, but her main concern was that they were adopting to close to the birth of Shiloh. It seems she feels that Shiloh will be left out and not get the amount of attention she deserves. I thought that was mighty white of her to be so concerned about Shiloh. The other woman didn’t have those concerns. She thought the adopting was a great idea, and that Angie intimidated people by doing what she wanted, living her life according to her and Brad’s design. She felt that people were jealous because she was not afraid to travel around the world alone, to do good again, according to what she felt etc, etc. And to adopt outside of the so call normal family. To redifine what a family was/is. Even AJ agreed with her. An emphany or a good talking to must have happened because he always rags on Angie. I think the Post woman felt rather stupid after she articulated her concerns, which are stupid if you think about them. Being concerned that a child will not get the attention he/she needs and that they were adopting too close to the birth of the bio child smacks of racism and phony self righteous concern. She was not concerned that Z would go lacking. Just Shiloh.. People never know how stupid they truly are until they open their mouths.
People, if Brad were going to cheat on Angie do you honestly think he would do it while she was away and with the whole world watching no less. Get over it. They are together, even if she is in Vietnam and he in LA. With the exception of the blabber mouth of Vietnam, these people keep their private life private. I can’t imagine that Brad would do anything to embarrass Angie. If could respect, the one who will remain nameless, he surely would not embarrass his babies mama. Peace.

oh plus, we already know that making movie comes last after her family and her UN work. I don’t think Angie is focusing on aiming to win awards anymore or gain anymore recognition as an actress. Let’s be clear. Angie didn’t say she was going to stay home forever. She said she would be a stay at home mom for now. Bet she’ll be pregnant by the end of the year. That will cause heads to spin and explode.
Also remember Brad once said that Angie only made movies to help support her causes and charities not that she wanted to be a big star. She can do commericals in Japan to make money when she is not working. I’m sure they pay well. Plus with her being nominated to that think tank more things will come her way. People, who truly count, see her value as a spokesperson, and all around good person. Peace.
Im vietnamese and im a little concern about the fact that Angie said” khong co sao dau, khong co sao” if you say that to a 3 year old that baby will be scare , my niece is like 3 and she gets scare when her mom comfort her and say no problems, no problem in vietnamese. But i congrats the family, and i hope Angie can adopt more childrens, Brad and Angie can make a INTERNATIONAL family. hahaha Keep up the good work!!!
