Reporters in Hanoi having hard time following Jolie

VietNamNet Bridge – The beautiful actress seems to have been engaged in a competition of the intellect with experienced Vietnamese and international paparazzis. And she has been triumphant.

At 10 am yesterday morning, reporters from Vietnamese and international news agencies such as Tien Phong, Lao Dong, VietNamNet, VN Express, AP, Reuters, and AFP were all present at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi to wait for “Mrs. Smith”.

Unfortunately for reporters, all info on her flight and stay in Hanoi was kept secret. International reporters all rejected the possibility that she would fly to Hanoi on a commercial plane. Reuters reporters said they had received info that Angelina would fly from HCM City to San Francisco, but hardly any one believed it.

As time passed by, the info on Angelina’ flight to Hanoi got consistent: she left HCM City at 2.30 pm. So reporters gathered at the 3rd floor of the arrival building where there were many glass windows overlooking the whole airport.

Expectations were answered. At 4 pm, a small plane numbered 4X-CUR appeared on the runway. 3 silver Innovas and a dark blue Mercedes approached the plane. Passengers were quickly and quietly transferred to the cars, which puzzled reporters who suspected the cars made some mistake or everything was merely a trick.

Their suspicions were confirmed. 10 minutes later, another small plane numbered N614 RD touched down on the runway. These 4 cars were again deployed. Reporters shouted and ran down from the 3rd floor to try to catch up with them. Once again, the reporters were outwitted. Two silver cars left the airport for Dong Anh Road while the Mercedes darted from the VIP exit. A reporter sighed, “There were no passengers.” So where was the other Innova? Nobody knew.

At the Sofitel Metropole Hotel in Hanoi, security guards were deployed at all 3 entrances, one of which was reserved for Angelina Jolie. Like in HCM City, no reporters were able to take a photo of her; she went straight to room 228 by elevator. Some source said she rent the whole floor. A hotel employee said she wore big glasses and black clothes. Some reporters disguised as hotel guests failed to approach her.

Nor did they succeed this morning, March 20, though they knew very well that she would go to the Rose Garden Tower on Ngoc Khanh Street to complete visa papers. No news agency got a shot of her. There were only photos of her Innova corps. According to a source of VietNamNet, Angelina Jolie will leave Hanoi this afternoon.

VietNamNet Bridge - Angelina Jolie has recently informed Tam Binh Orphanage that her Vietnamese adopted child no longer cries and lets her come near him.

These days, reporters in Hanoi are busy following Angelina Jolie in the process to complete visa procedures for Pax Thien Jolie’s arrival in the US. Meanwhile, the atmosphere at Tam Binh Orphanage has returned to normal after the feverish days of receiving the Hollywood star.

Orphanage Director Nguyen Van Trung can now take his time to tell whatever he was too rushed to remember just a few days ago.

“For the past 15 years, I have handed many children to their foster parents, but nobody has written or asked me about them. Some of these parents are heads of big corporations and foreign artists. Yet, no one has made such as stir as Jolie,” said the director.

On the morning of March 19, when Jolie took Pax to Hanoi, the orphanage also received an American couple, who wanted to adopt a girl of the same age as Pax Thien Jolie. Knowing she would meet her parents, the child was extremely glad. She rushed to hold them, believing they were her biological parents. But the couple didn’t take her away immediately. They came to visit and will return after all papers have been finished. The girl broke out crying when seeing them walk away.

Pham Quang Sang, on the contrary, cried when he saw Jolie. Mr. Trung recalled: “He cried so hard that I wanted to scold him. But Jolie stopped me. She patiently soothed him for almost 20 minutes. I know Sang. He was demanding to the foster mothers here since he knew they would yield to him. But whenever I scolded him, he turned obedient and said ‘I’m sorry, father Trung’. He knew well who would yield and who wouldn’t.”

Mr. Trung said that there seems to be a link between the children and their foster parents.

“It is perhaps fate. I have witnessed a man with dark skin who adopted a child with dark skin. I was surprised when a bald man adopted a child who seemed to be bald too. And a mother with squint eyes once received a squint-eyed child.”

So what is the similarity between Sang and his movie star mother? Mr. Trung broke out laughing: “I think he is like Brad Pitt rather than Jolie. Sang is as naughty and smart as any character played by Pitt. Brad Pitt is very easy. Last year when he came here, he asked me where the restroom was and I showed him the way to a public restroom. And he walked straight there.”

Mr. Trung sometimes receives gifts and money from foster parents living abroad. Whenever they come to receive their children, foreign and Vietnamese parents bring candies to distribute to all the children or donate money to the Orphanage. But Angelina Jolie didn’t do any of these things. She didn’t make any donation pledge. When Jolie came to receive Sang, more than 20 children at the Orphanage stood singing and presenting her with flowers in their best clothes and best mood, but she didn’t bring any candies to give them.

Mr. Trung said perhaps she was too happy to think about candies. He heard that when she adopted Maddox, she didn’t make any promise either. But one year after, she returned to Cambodia with large-scale charity works.

International media said Jolie promised Tam Binh Orphanage US$ 2 million.

“She didn’t even promise $ 2.000, let alone $ 2 million. If she donated, it would be great for the children here. But we didn’t bring up the issue. We were already very glad that she adopted Sang,” Mr Trung said.

Asked about Sang’s health, Mr Trung affirmed: “When he was born, he had some liver problem. But 15 months after birth, there was no sign of it. Pham Quang Sang or Pax Thien Jolie is totally healthy now.”

Angelina Jolie’s new son Pax gets his US passport

Hanoi - Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie’s newest adopted son, Pax Thien, was issued a US passport and immigration visa Tuesday in Vietnam, clearing the way for him to go home and meet new dad Brad Pitt. Jolie arrived at the US embassy with 3-year-old Pax, whom she formally adopted from a Vietnamese orphanage last week, just after noon Thursday and left 45 minutes later.

Photographers jostled at the entryway for a photo into the dark-tinted windows but none of them managed to get a shot of the actress, who has kept a low profile since her arrival in Hanoi.

Picking up a passport and visa is the last legal hurdle for a US citizen adopting, leaving Jolie and her son free to travel when she chooses, according to Vu Duc Long, director of Vietnam’s International Adoption Department.

“She may leave Vietnam tonight,” Long said, though other sources indicated she might wait until Wednesday.

Jolie’s latest adoption brings her international family with Pitt to four children. Pitt was reportedly under contract to a movie in Los Angeles and could not be with his partner to pick-up the latest addition.

Pax joins 5-year-old Maddox, adopted from Cambodia; Zahara, aged two, from Ethiopia; as well as baby Shiloh - the couple’s biological daughter who was born in Namibia last May.

Jolie who signed the adoption papers as a single parent because Vietnamese regulations do not allow unmarried couples to co-adopt.
