I think “Happy Girl” forgot to take her happy pills. What a sour lemon head! :roll: They have a lot of charities, and an advisor to help them know how much to give when they want to give….I’m sure the clinic will do a lot of good with what they gave. Remember, they give a lot that we don’t hear about in the “news”, like the money for the Cancer Research Center ad.

Thank you JJ and Audrey for letting us read this. I am just amazed at this couple. I know they have inspired many less fortunate than themselves to give…let’s hope they also inspire the ones who ARE as fortunate as they are.

This shouldn’t amaze or surprise anyone, they’re givers ‘time an money’ I see something really big in their future, bigger than anything they’ve done already.

Paparrazis take a lot of celeb’s photographs and tabloids make up lies every week all to benefit no one from the huge amount of money they make. No one is crying foul at these people. Therefore, I support Brad and Angie to collect money for their pictures because at least it will benefit someone.

People magazine stated that’s not true and said it’s a ridiculous number.

In adoptions news… Brad and Angelina will reportedly earn $2.3 million for photographs of their newly adopted son, Pax. The couple earned a reported $4.7 million for photographs of of daughter Shiloh just after she was born.

The money that BP and AJ received via photos, their own donations goes into the
Jolie-Pitt foundation and from there the donations are distributed to various charities. Some charites, depending on the amount needed will get $100,000 or other charities will get more. The point is, all the money that has been announced/confirmed has gone into this foundation and I am sure that we will hear through various organizations’ Press releases of many more such contributions as we have in the past. I admire them for being devoted
humantarians and I wish BAMPZS all the best.

It is common practice for charities/projects/foundations to acknowledge a large contribution by making a press release because it draws attention to the said charity and other people get on the bandwagon. I guess that is too logical for the detractors to understand?! God they are stupid sometimes.

Anywho, good on Brad and Angelina for their latest contribution - I am quite sure that the amount reflects the need and that any other monies received for the latest pictures will benefit MANY people and charities - they spread the love around! :-)

What you are failing to distinguish is the difference between donating to a Third World Charity and the donations that TC makes to his own cult, which benefits only other members of the said cult. Personally, I could care less what TC does with his money, but I just wouldn’t compare the type of contribution he makes to that of Angelina and Brad, who help people in real need. Yo coalharbourqt! I was about to leave the thread when I saw your post. Oh yes it is warming up here in HogTown (TO) . In fact, temperature went up to 16C today with a bit of rain & the rest of the week are nice. I will not complain. I bought the People magazine already. Did you purchased yours yet? So far, I have not read it. I will this weekend. I am planning to buy the Hello Canada Magazine too. I will also going to buy the Babel DVD. And the Good Sheperd as well. Whew! Not to forget the release of Ocean’s 13 & A Mighty Heart this Summer. Better save more money. But it is well worth it just for Brad & Angelina.

i don’t think the press release came from their camp. is it confirmed it came from them? the only statement we had is from the beneficiary but no words from them. besides, I’m sure there are other institutions that they have supported that was not reported as well.

if they don’t disclose their beneficiaries they are being called a fraud humanitarians, if they do disclose it’s a selfish deed. oh, well they can’t win to people like you and they don’t care i’m sure. but surely those people who received their donations are more than greatful for that. stop whining and start donating!

Well put. I’ve come to the conclusion that most of the ‘haters’ are pretty obtuse and uneducated. They just don’t know what they’re talking about because they base all their ‘info’ on the tabloids and are too lazy/incapable of doing proper research and educating themselves on the real issues that Angelina and Brad are tackling.

I’ve visited a lot of different blogs (and a lot of different types of blogs too) and the BAMPZS thread at JJ is this ever-expanding cadre of intelligent, informed bloggers who really ‘get’ what this family is all about. Yes, there are a few who get a tad too ‘passionate’ in a not so good way about it all, but you’ll find that everywhere.

What I really find tiring is the accusation that we aren’t open to new/differing opinions - I will always take the time to read a well expressed point of view, even if I don’t agree with it. Just don’t be upset if I write back and debate with some valid points of my own! And don’t be upset if one of us prooves you wrong either - we’ve heard it all here and had our own debates to the nth degree about what is what, so usually we already have hashed out the intricacies of an issue and come to the most logical conclusion.

Don’t reply to Get Real = Happy Girl. She is one of the usual dumped FF frumpy woman. She is bragging in FF saying she is causing a havoc here. Let her marinate in her own filth in FF cesspool. No need for us to be her free therapist for her terribly sad, personal life.

Hey Ariel - yes - I do know what Hogtown is ;-) tee hee I have been looking at the links to everything online. It’s kind of my “environmental” thing - I allow myself to buy “In Style” once a month and the occasional book/novel and that’s it - no papers, tabloids etc. I’m trying really hard to cut down on my paper consumption by getting all my news etc. online and through the tv, and believe, for someone who loves to read the way I do it is not an easy task. Looking forward to AMH and O13 this summer too! And then TAOJJ in the Fall - I smell an Oscar for BP already (and maybe one for AJ too). Have a great sleep!

Another reason why I think people mag will not pay that high is that this story has been on the internet and TV for several days . Many have seen the pic of Pax. Many have read about the adoption process.

Now, the price for Shi’s (year end pic) were different. I believe that one worths more. Because no one has seen much of Shi since she has been indoor (drinking formula, napping, pooping) for a long time.

Here’s an excerpt from an article regarding this adoption from TVGuide. It may be one of Murdochs but they quoted a spokesperson from People and quoted a rep from JPs camp so FWIW:

As Jolie flew back to the United States, several reports surfaced that she was paid up to $2 million by People magazine for exclusive photos of her and the newly adopted boy, but a magazine spokeswoman said the figure was false.

“We never comment on the specifics of any negotiations but that number is completely INACCURATE ,” People’s spokeswoman said.

Jolie’s representative also called the figure “not accurate” and noted any money received for the pictures goes to a non-profit foundation that disperses the funds to “a variety of charities.”

$2M is not true. The price is far less than that. People comfirmed it. Angie used People and Hello to correct several wrong reports about adoption of Pax and devalue pap’s photos.

The boy whom the world would know as Pax Thien Jolie was brought to the Tam Binh orphanage when he was one month old after being abandoned by his mother at Tu Du obstretics hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. “His mother gave birth and left immediately,” said Nguyen Van Trung, director of orphanage. Hospital authorities put up notices and tried to search for the mother for 30 days but no one showed up. So he was placed in the orphanage, which was provided with a police report of attempts to find his birth parents, as is standard practice in Vietnam.

An inside look at the facility that reared Angelina Jolie’s new son and how it treats the children under its care

The child was known at the orphanage as Pham Quang Sang. Pham is a fairly common family name in Vietnam; the second two given names together mean “bright light.” No one at the orphanage seemed to know for sure — the name was on his file when he arrived at the orphanage — but the name may be the only thing his birth mother left to him. It is standard practice for Vietnamese hospitals to require women in labor to provide proposed names for the child, one for a boy and a second for a girl, in case the mother dies in childbirth. The practice is a legacy of the hard years of famine and poverty after the war when women more often died in childbirth.

As it happened, according to Trung, when the actress Angelina Jolie applied to Vietnam through an agency asking for a healthy boy between ages 3 and 5, Pax happened to be the only one at Tam Binh orphanage who met the criteria. There were 31 other boys the same age, but all of them had relatives or were not “healthy.” “Only Sang met the set criteria for adoption in general and her request,” Trung said. “She was lucky at the time she applied that there was this boy who met the request and criteria.” (Vietnam’s national adoption director says that he prepared 10 dossiers of boys, including those at other orphanages, in response to Jolie’s original application and criteria.)

“In past years, we have received so many applications for adoptions but few children really meet with the requirements,” Tam Binh’s director Trung continues. “In so many cases, they are not totally or really abandoned — they still have parents out there and sometimes even other family who come to visit them. For example, the mother may have been sent to jail or is in a mental institution, or the parents may have leprosy — so we cannot let them go.” Some of the children also have physical or mental handicaps that make them harder to place. In the end, only about 30% of Tam Binh’s children eventually get adopted. The same situation applies to the rest of the country’s orphanages. In fact, in the group picture of Tam Binh orphans that circulated shortly after the adoption took place, the boy who is now Pax Thien Jolie was the only child in the portrait who was eligible for adoption, according to Trung. “None of the others in the photo are slated for adoption.”

Trung describes Pax Thien (a name in two languages, the Latin for “peace” and the Vietnamese for “sky”) as a bright and amiable boy,though with a tendency to be laughing one moment and then turning suddenly shy, as he apparently did when he started crying when he met Jolie on the day he was adopted. “It’s common for ophans to be shy. When they play in a group or team, he’s very active, but shy once separated.”

One person who will especially miss Pax is Bui Thi Bach Tuyen, who was his primary caretaker for the last 18 months (the orphanage has about 15 caretakers at any given time for the 153 children who are Pax’s age). Wandering around the orphanage dormitories, Ms. Tuyen points out the small now empty bed that Pax slept in in the corner of the room. “He was here, and now he’s gone,” she says sadly. “I’m very happy for him. I miss him and so I am sad — but we have other children to take care of.” She adds, “Everyone is sad since he’s left,” Tuyen says. “We have mixed feelings — happy, proud of him, missing him.”

Ms. Tuyen says she didn’t have time during the brief ceremony to coach Jolie on how Pax should be fed, but she’s not worried that Pax will have trouble adjusting to the food in America, since he already eats some Western-style food. “Sang loves to eat yogurt and spaghetti.” (Unlike most east Asians, many Vietnamese eat locally made yogurt, a legacy of French colonialists.) “He’s very clever and I hope he has a good life. We just hope he will return to visit us. But we don’t know,” says Tuyen.

Vietnam’s rules of adoption call for Jolie to send the orphanage regular reports and photos of Pax’s progress. “For Sang’s case,” says Trung, Tam Binh’s director, “she is required to send a report every six months updating us about his health, mental development, hobbies — and a photo,” says Trung. “It’s required for the first three years. After three years, it’s not required because we can see if the kids are being taken care of for the first three years so we can be assured they are in the good home.”

If Jolie had not whisked him from the orphanage to instant fame, Pax Thien most likely would have ended up being adopted by another, probably foreign, family, because of the intense overseas demand. “At present, there are more [foreign] requests for adoptions than there are eligible children for adoptions,” says Vu Duc Long, head of Vietnam’s International Adoption Department, which is part of the Ministry of Justice. “There is more demand than supply.” Last year, 163 U.S. parents adopted Vietnamese children, making Vietnam the 14th most popular adoption source. (China is number 1 with more than 6,000 U.S. adoptions in the same period.)

Ho Thi Kim Thoa, who is second-in-charge at the orphanage, remembers the first day Jolie and her partner, the actor Brad Pitt, visited last November bearing toys and playing with children. She didn’t know at the time she was in the presence of two of the world’s biggest superstars. Asked if she did not notice that the woman playing with the children back then was exceptionally beautiful, Thoa shrugged and said “she was dressed normally and wasn’t wearing any make-up, I guess.” Thoa adds, “We considered her as just another guest giving charity at that time and had no idea she might adopt from here.”

What Thoa does remember is Jolie’s ease with the children then — and now that she knows more about about the boy’s new mother, she says has no worries about his future. “I think she’ll be a good mother to him,” she says. “She already has experience.”

A Visit to Pax’s Orphanage

One of the first things you notice when you walk into the Tam Binh orphanage’s reception area is a shrine on the back wall with a large, gold-colored bust of Ho Chi Minh, communist Vietnam’s founding father, with a golden hammer-and-sickle hung on the wall behind him. But in a corner across from Uncle Ho’s bust, there is a more discreet homage: a photo-copy of a Vietnamese magazine spread featuring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt taped to the wall next to one of the office’s three wooden desks. The article features photos from the couple’s November visit to Vietnam, showing them cruising the streets of Ho Chi Minh City on a motorbike. There is a display of other adoptive parents with their children from the orphanage on another wall, but it’s clear that Jolie, Tam Binh’s most famous adoptive parent, has made a special impression.

The Tam Binh orphanage is next to national highway 1A, a busy thoroughfare on the northern outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). But it is fairly quiet once you are within the grounds. The reception area has faded light-blue walls that look like they are about five years overdue for repainting. A pleasant tree-shaded garden is filled with primary-colored playground equipment of the kind you’d see pretty much anywhere in the West — slides, a plastic jungle gym, spring-loaded hobby-horses shaped like ducks and rabbits. The children’s dormitories are further to the left of the garden. Further back are classrooms where the younger children are taught. Kids who reach school age ride bicycles to local schools.

Founded 32 years ago (around the time the Vietnam War ended with the communist victory), Tam Binh orphanage has 326 children: 189 boys and 137 girls. Nearly half (47%) are toddlers of the age of Jolie’s new son (the orphanage has 153 kids from 19 months to 5 years, of which there are 99 boys and 54 girls).

A typical day at the orphanage for a child Pax’s age goes like this: For toddlers, the schedule is wake up at 6 a.m., they then brush their teeth and wash face and hands, have breakfast and then the caretakers take them out to play outside for an hour. The children spend days with caretakers in group activities like singing and drawing. They go to bed at 8:30 p.m.

Children over 6 years old (school age) have a stricter regimen: They usually rise at 6 a.m and go outside for morning exercises — calisthenics in the yard — then have breakfast, usually sticky rice or noodles with vegetables or bread. They then prepare to bicycle to a school about a mile away. At 11:30 they return for lunch and a nap. At 2:30, some may go back to school and others stay at home and work on homework. In late afternoon, they have dinner and then, about 6 p.m., free time. “They may play football or read in the library or work on computers,” says Nguyen Van Trung, director of orphanage. The orphanage has 10 computers, most donated by foreign charities and children play games and do their homework on them. At 7 p.m. they resume doing homework — with tutors for those whose grades are suffering. At 9 p.m. they prepare to go to bed.

For the children ineligible for foreign adoption and who must live the rest of their childhood in the orphanage life can be hard. They must also deal with stigma, says Trung. “Yes, of course there’s always conflict and inferiority complexes — conflicts sometimes happen at school. Their classmates often taunt them by calling them ‘orphans’ and they get into fights and we have to come to the school. But we try to take care and support them and see they get a good education.”

Most of the children who grow up in Tam Binh orphanage go straight into the workforce after leaving school, a fact of life the orphanage recognizes. Tam Binh has 10 sewing machines to train teenagers in job skills (garment and shoe factories abound in Vietnam and garments are the country’s second-largest-earning export behind crude oil). “Some of them go to work in factories. But some of them have even become teachers.” And then Trung says, “Those who are not as clever, they can be street vendors — it’s like all others in a society.”

Oh, one more thing, (I’m so disorganized), the bid does not have to be all cash. It could be a combination of cash + magazine space. Just like those start up company, the salary very often is cash + stock option.

Be careful ! Whenever someone wished ill toward Jolie-Pitts it happened to Brad’s ex. It’s the irony of fate. Only God knows.

After a civil war that lasted for over 20 years, peace has arrived in southern Sudan. However, the collapse of the social infrastructure during the long period of unrest has left the region with virtually no health services.

Direct Change is working with supporters to raise funds to build and maintain the Duk Lost Boys Clinic, which will be the first medical clinic to serve the 150,000 people of Duk County Sudan.

The project is directed by John Dau, one of the “Lost Boys of Sudan” whose own struggle to survive the civil war in Sudan is documented in the film “God Grew Tired of Us,” who is also one of the founders of Duk Lost Boy Clinic which is being built in the village he was forced to flee during the war.

With no doctors or medical facilities for 75 miles, the people of Duk County are anxiously awaiting the opening of this clinic.

The American Care for Sudan Foundation has started construction on the clinic, a doctor has been hired and volunteers are in Sudan to assist with construction. Support is still needed for medical supplies and for the operation of the clinic.

While over $340,000 has already been raised to build this seven room-clinic, an estimated additional $150,000 is required for setup and the first six months of operations for the clinic. This budget will provide medical supplies, salaries for the staff at the clinic (doctor, nurses and support staff) and transportation costs to provide access to the facility from the more remote parts of the region.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have donated $100,000 to help build the first modern medical facility in Duk County, Sudan, PEOPLE has learned.

The Duk Lost Boys Clinic is the brainchild of John Dau, director of the non-profit organization Direct Change’s Sudan Project and himself one of the “Lost Boys” of the Sudan.

His story is featured in the documentary God Grew Tired of Us, which Pitt executive produced.

Pitt and Jolie, who donated the money through their Jolie-Pitt Foundation, first learned of his efforts to build the clinic at the film’s Hollywood premiere in January, according to a statement from Direct Change.

The clinic, set to open in the spring and serve more than 150,000 people, is located in the village Dau fled as a boy during Sudan’s civil war in the late 1980s.

“Words cannot express my gratitude and the gratitude of the people of Duk County,” Dau said in the statement. “Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt demonstrate the American spirit of generosity. Hopefully, their donation will inspire others to join with us to rebuild southern Sudan.”

Jolie, 31, has a personal connection to the troubled African nation: As a goodwill ambassador for the United Nation’s refugee agency, she recently traveled to Chad, where she met with refugees from Sudan’s war-torn Darfur region.

Later, in an op-ed piece in The Washington Post, she called upon the international community to intervene to stop the violence there.

Earlier this week, Jolie adopted her fourth child, 3-year-old Pax Thien Jolie, from Vietnam. “We are slowly beginning to build his trust and bond,” she tells PEOPLE in its new issue. “But it will feel complete only when we are all together.”

I was just thinking that i should post a thank-you to the haterz for giving us fans the opportunity to continuously extol the love and good fortunes of BAMPZS every time the haterz spew their venom in a BAMPZS thread as they are wont to do. So yeah…….. if indeed you are a new convert to BAMPZS love, then welcome into the light, lol.

As for me, i was drawn to both AJ and BP from the characters they portray in their movies, beginning with Hackers for Angie and for Brad, it was that Vampire movie he did with Tom Cruise. And then i just felt compeled to seek out more info about each of them and this pushed me to read about their personal lives. Come to think of it, i do this for NO OTHER ACTORS! And i love going to the movies so obviously, there are other actors whose work I admire but for the life of me i have no further interest in them as people………………only Brad and Angie. Does anyone else feel this way?

Interestingly, i never really thought of them coming together as a couple….their lives were so full of other people, etc. But when they did become a couple, i thought it was the most natural thing in the world! lol.

So yeah………….BIG UP to all the BAMPZS haterz cos you give all their fans the opportunity to re-experience the magic of their love everytime you try to bash them! Loves it!

Off-topic:I know a few weeks ago I talked about Lindsay Lohan and her mother being like Drew and Jade Barrymore. Well now, it looks like I’m right because while Lindsay has a provocative photospread in GQ her mother has one in Harper’s Bazaar. I can’t really blame Lindsay for having problems because it seems like she has no parental figure in her life. To have your parents sponge off of your fame for their own personal gain…I can’t imagine.

Looking at Angie, she was fortunate to have one selfless, caring and loving parent in her life and Brad has both, so will their kids. At child, whether he/she is an infant or a young adult, he/.she needs an anchor in their life to keep grounded and safe. And this family does.

One more thing for the haters: if you don’t want to find a horse head in your bed, I suggest you chill on the ignorant comments. You really are a stupid plumpkin (I know it is you, keeping it real, that is responsible for these ignorant, misogynist comments).

Amaya- I still just do not understand the LL thing. She is so hard for me to look at and unfortunately I think she is going to go the John Belushi route. Maybe I’m too old but I don’t see what the big deal about her is, and like I already said, I think she fugly. As for Jammy, I think he’s going to be nipping for awhile, he’s just teething. No housebreaking tips, I never had a problem with anydogs I had growing up or now but I live in CA and we are outside alot or I can leave the door open and you can’t right now so that might have something to do with the fact that I had no problems, we were already outside.

I would like to know what the heck make these complainers so high and mighty to put down any good deed they do? Have these people that post vile comments donated 1/3 of their income, have they adopted any child in need (regardless of location), have donated their time and hard work to worthy causes? Whatever money there is from the pic have all gone to the foundation. It is foundation’s money. Jolie and Pitt make the decision of where and when the money should go to the charity. That is, NONE of the money will go to personal use.

All foundations have to abide by the IRS regulations. The foundation has to file tax return every year, just like any corporation because it is a separate legal entity. The tax return will detail the income and expenses. If it is done incorrectly, the foundation can lose it’s non profit status.

so haters, dont be so ignorant . and please, get some education which train people for critical thinking , before opening your mouth. if you haters have this mentality, dont expect to get paid well.

That’s right. Oprah owns the school in South Africa and will own it forever. So she can spend all she wants to and she also has the say in where every cent is spent. She knows her money is not being wasted or stole. she is even going to spend six months of the year living on the campus.

Brad and Angie DO NOT OWN this Sudan project. They are merely assisting and they will not be saying how the money is to be spent. They can however ask for an accounting of how the money was spent before they make another donation. That is the big difference.

Now, Brad and Angie own two projects in Cambodia and one in Ethiopia which are their sole responsibility and to which they give much more time and money. They have to visit personally to check to see how their money is being spent and have representatives on the ground to always keep a keen eye.

Brad also has a project in New Orleans and they donate to several charites annually, including in Haiti, Pakistan, Namibia, and many others. They don’t also donate to the same charities every year. some are one-time donations and others are ongoing.
