I agree with both of you girls, I am also an African American female (yellow just like Went) and would love to see if he would ever date anyone who is like himself. I’m just curious. But from what I’ve heard and seen, black women don’t even cross his radar. I don’t care what he said about Nicole Ari-Parker, I totally think she was an idea he got from Rockmond Dunbar since he and Nicole were on soul food together. Ever since that little girl broke his heart and called him the N-word in school when she found out about his heritage, he has been chasing that white girl all his life. I hope he either gets the girl he loves or the psychiatric help he needs. LOL

OK…you just “schooled” me right there. I missed the Nicole Ari-Parker thing. What did he say about her? And did he really have an incident in school that pushed him away from fine ladies of color? I would think that Wentworth, with his level of intelligence & cognitive thinking, would not be so shallow or limit his opportunity because someone showed their ignorance. I understand that he likes to pick his battles when it comes to the race issue. But because someone chose to be totally derogatory and called him outside of his given name, I would think he would be able to rise above that. Why punish beautiful women of color in order to avoid color controversy? I would hope that this is not the case and that any lady of any ethnic background, including Black women, could have a place in his heart. So tired of fighting this battle with men of color who chose to not give us a chance….

Not talking about Wentworth….just talking about Brothas, in general….

The thing is, he probably can’t help it. These things are set in stone when you are a kid and you really can’t outgrow them, no matter what. I’ve seen these weird tests that they give people to find out their strengths and weaknesses. And basically these are formed in adolescents and can not be changed. So basically, if you were shaped into being an empathetic person in your youth, you will not change. You will always be this way. So many companies use these tests to play to people’s strengths and put them in jobs that suit them and feed off of those strengths instead of trying to stick them somewhere they don’t belong.

I like Went and all but I believe this is what has happened to him and tons of other black men. I honestly don’t support black men specifically or anyone else specifically. I will stand behind a man if he is right and true but not because he is black. If I think a white person is right, I will support them. If I think an Asian brother is strong and true, I will stand behind him. I’m not going out of my way to do something for somebody who looks down on me or won’t do the same for me. The comment about Nicole was supposedly made on a radio program. He said something like she is disarmmingly beautiful or something like that. She is beautiful but I’m sure very much not on his radar and that is not for me to judge there are men who aren’t on mine. I have my own life to live and he has his.

Black men constantly make money off of degrading black women (think rap music as an example) and black women constantly hold these same guys up like a trophy. Black women outpace black men when it comes to education, finances, etc… But he is using you so he can appeal to someone else (white women or whatever), get over them and move on to another group of men. 70% of black women will never marry because of this fixation they have and the fact that the pool of eligible decent black men is small and you end up having to share. Learn that you deserve better and go find someone else. If you find a black man who loves and supports you great but if you are constantly experiencing heart break and dissappointment you need to move on. If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always gotten. I always remember this from when I started working and that one little phrase taught me a whole lot. When black women start to change and start watching their own back, maybe you will see some changes in the community as well as on the outside.

I apologize for going off the subject but I just wanted to respond as to the comment of “why”. I don’t support anyone who won’t support me.

To Nichelle Denise, Me too, and all the other Sistas:

Please understand that I in no way wanted to suggest that Went doesn’t prefer or will never choose to be with one of us. I only put some theories out there as to MAYBE why we haven’t seen him with one yet. I think my theories are mentally sound but not written in stone. Only Went knows what he likes, what he wants and when he’s going to get it. All I wish is for his happiness and everyone in the worldf for that matter, with whomever he/they choose(s).

I also wanted to agree with Me too, about us (black women) keeping our options open and not limiting ourselves to what seems to be a shrinking well educated, respectful, black-woman-loving/straight, African American men population. I’m blessed to have met my husband at the age of 17. We got married at 23 and we have two beautiful daughters that I’m already teaching to keep their options open. They are so young that they probably won’t have a choice BUT to do so by the time they are grown. I mean, I saw a show on NOVA a few years ago on which I heard a sociologists say that in the next few decades, everyone on this earth will be a shade of brown. We have a an Earth filled with only brown people. People just like Went. Personally, I think it’s a beautiful thing. With all the inter, bi, multiracial people in this country alone, and with all the Latino and Hispanics, the minority has ALREADY become the majority.

I know that I’ve seen interviews where Went is asked about his ethnicity and he always says that he’s very proud of who and what he is. He has said that he feels very strongly about knowing his heritage. He’s also said that he picks his battles when it comes to issues about race. I’m a huge fan of his and probably always will be. However, I still cannot get over the fact that one of the guys in the group he sang with at Princeton (Tigertones) was in Black-face in one of the pics I saw. I know a lot of white people who wouldn’t let that S#*T slide!

Yeah, some people are really nasty, but don’t get so excitable about it. And quit with the “blanket” description of the United States. There are a lot of people posting here that are from other countries, so don’t lump all of us together. I would never disrespect someone like some of they ugly minded people have posting here. The internet gives anonymous people a lot of liberty to have a lot of uneducated opinion that they may not have in a real life circumstance. Hopefully, Went’s “date” doesn’t take any of this to heart….

this is so funny went is so gay and this is a distraction strategy. i love the guy cos he is a geat actor and extremely good looking man but give me a break.he never even touched the girl or any other girl for that matter. didnt you watch the sona episode of pb. he struggled with the intimate moment with swc. he is so gay and it’s okay. i wish his publicist would stop pulling these stunts so that everyone believes his straight. i am no perez hilton but i know for certain he has a boyfriend that he has been commited to for 2 years and the guy is hot also but he is getting tired of waiting for went. ladies either you all or delusional or just palin in denial. he can’t stand women in that way and amie bice is so his friend. the next year will roll by and you want see him romantically linked with any girl. hey i know marianna and wentworth from back in the day. he is friendly with us girls. very polite but before long we all knew he was into men. but he is very nice so you kinda forgive him for being so goodlooking yet gay. seriously he has been gay for a long time but i don’t see him coming out of the closet soon.

Strange, Jenna #187, in your other comment in the other Went post re. him being gay you don’t mention any of this ‘insider knowlege’. In fact there you say (and I quote): “i wont believe [it's a relationship] till i see real pda”. Now, if you *know* he is gay from having known him and Marianna from “back in the day”, why would you ever believe it, even if you did see “real pda”?

And as for him having had a boyfriend for 2 years with absolutely no pictorial evidence? Please!

Good Lord! Why do people feel the need to make up this kind of stuff just to try and get a reaction or to make themselves feel important? It is too, too sad.

I am with you. Someone is really wantin’ some d.amn attention with the “gay” bs and the big lie that he has a boyfriend (boy, this alleged boyfriend has been waiting a loooooong time to be seen & heard). Like intelligent thinking people are going to buy into that. It is so obvious that Went likes the ladies….He just doesn’t have to roar about it….

We will never see “proof” of Went being “gay”….because he is not gay….

SweetyKat and Nichelle and all the other sistahs, I’m glad that we had this discussion. SweetyKat, yes, please continue to teach your daughters about their options. Take them to various cultural events to expose them to any and everything. I’ve been in classes where I have seen young black women make derogatory remarks about Asian (and other) cultures. I hate that, if you want others to respect your culture, you need to respect theirs. I am so upset by a recent statistic that says 70% of black women will never marry because of their focus on finding a solid black man to marry. It is similar to the whole knight in shining armor theory. Women would look for that and honestly there is no one man who is that perfect but unfortunately there has been an erosion of quality black men in the community and the ones who are good men prefer white/asian/latina to be their women. And I don’t have a problem with that, in fact, I’m fine with it but I just don’t like seeing black women loose out on everything for some pipe dream that will never materialize. The thing is these girls may be checking for these “black” men but they are not checking for them. Why chase someone who doesn’t want you or will use you for “practice” and then throw you aside when something more to their “liking” comes along. Chasing men turns them off anyway so why bother.

I will be honest, I’ve never dated any black men, at all. Right now, I’m dating a guy of german-irish decent. I’m very reserved and we have very similar personalities. He treats me like gold and respects me and that is all I could ever ask for.
