Brad & Angelina to do the Cannes Cannes

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are set to open the Cannes Film Festival on May 16 in France with A Mighty Heart, produced by Pitt’s company, Plan B.

“The story unfolds like a mystery,” said Jolie, who plays Mariane Pearl, the widow of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. “You’ve got people collecting clues and trying to solve what happened. But it’s also very real and personal. We didn’t want it to be too melodramatic or too polished. We didn’t want it to be a typical movie.”

Says co-star Dan Futterman (pictured), “It would usually take about five minutes before people would figure out that it was Angelina. So we ended up shooting a lot of the exterior stuff in five-minute increments.”

My major objection is that you NEVER hear of a talented Black or Latino/a actor/actress that plays the role of a real life White person. I mean, I personally would love to see Will Smith (in whiteface, of course) playing George W. Bush in a movie, or Gabrielle Union in whiteface playing Hillary Clinton, but you just don’t see that. So why is it really “ok” to allow a white actress to (so freakin’ poorly too - she looks nothing like Marianne Pearl) play a person of color??????

Halle Berry is playing a white teacher in her next movie. Nope. Sorry, that argument won’t work, either.

I know you just want to hate it for the sake of hating it. Funny how some people are quaking in their boots that this movie is going to be a critically acclaimed success. I can’t wait to see it, and see Angie at the Oscars next year on Brad’s arm. The J-P’s have quite a wonderful year togehter to look forward to. It’s all good, and try as they might, nobody can spoil their blessings.

iwontseemovie @ 04/20/2007 at 8:27 am

It looks like modern day black face, to me. What did they do, put white make-up on Halle. I think not!

Stop trying to create drama and controversy where there is none. Besides, Marianne Pearl has a multi-ethnic hertiage that includes just as much “white” DNA as “black”, and she approved Angie for the part herself.

Methinks your real issue and agenda is to distract from the fact that this is going to be a powerful movie with a knock-out performance by Angie that will likely bring kudos to her and more awareness to an international incident. All that flies in the face of your fantasy of a world that hates La Jolie. So, just stop it. It isn’t going to work.

iwontseemovie @ 04/20/2007 at 8:42 am

jolie has NO Black DNA!

iwontseemovie @ 04/20/2007 at 8:46 am

Futhermore, what is even more outrageous is Jennifer Aniston was up for the role!!!!!!!!

iwontseemovie @ 04/20/2007 at 8:46 am

dragonfly, ARE YOU BLACK?

konnitiwa @ 04/20/2007 at 8:47 am

AMH is NOT a movie about racial issue. This is a movie about LOVE between husband and wife and FRIENDSHIP among people from different backgrounds. The theme of this movie is universal and beyond color.

One more thing. If you dwell on racial issue. Marianne has Chinese grandfather and Angie has Canadian Indian ancestor. Indian has Mongolian roots and thus they have same roots from Asia.
And Marianne’s father is Deuch and Angie’s ancestors are from France and Germany and Czech. They are all Europeans.

See what happens when you give time to nobody.

They both have white, so there ya go. Quite enough of a unifying factor. You sound like a closet racist who is only capable of circular logic, so I am officially out of this conversation with you. Like I already said, most of us are fully aware of what this argumentative hater tactic is all about. We’ve discussed this here already months ago. It’s a moot point now.

BBL, when there’s someone here more interesting to chat with.

This proves you don’t know what you are talking about. Brad’s ex was never up for that role. You need to do more research and get it right next time.

Oh please let’s not start the same bullshit arguments that we have discussed already when the first stills of AMH with Angie appeared on the internet. We have discussed all of it. Their problem is that Brad and Angie will shine with all their glory at Cannes while their idol will take her dogs for a walk.

And just to set the record straight once and for all:

A Brad Article from 2004 promoting Troy

Quote:

IFQ: Jennifer Anniston and you are producing a movie about Daniel Pearl. Will you act in it, as well?

BP: Yes, we’re developing Mariane Pearl’s book A Mighty Heart. We won’t be in it we’re just developing it as a script. It’s a story that I’m very much drawn to. As you read the book what you see is this horrible scenario and they’re trying to trace his steps and save Daniel. They form in this house, this little microcosm of world peace in a way, all working to save someone, to help someone. You have a Pakistani, you have an Indian, Persian, and American, on and on it goes and that little microcosm is what really sets a great example for me.
——————-
She was never going to star in this movie. NEVER!!! She was just in Plan B when Brad was developing the project but as soon as her ass got out of the complany she has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Get than in your tiny brains..

Good Morning, dragonfry. 10. pm in Japan.
We will have to repeat same lecture forever but we have people who visit here and collect some information to spread it to another place. They are both of fans and haters. I don’t care haters who comments here but care the people who are lurking here. I want make this blog to be the resource of correct information.

I think that A Mighty Heart will be a success because it is a history on tragities that still they happen today and also will appeal to the women.

Popped back in to see who might be about, and konnitiwa, I have to say your post #108 was great! And yes, you and think positive! are right, people jump here without knowing any backstory or actually reading the thread at all and want to give their oh-so informed opinions…..gmafb!

Thanks for re-posting Brad’s own words that neither he or JA ever planned on being in AMH.

I really can’t wait to see this movie. I haven’t read the book, but the story is certainly pertinent to our owrld today. Angie has bee described as being “fearless” in front of the camera, and from what she said in the EW article, about having to close the door on Winterbottom’s camera to cry by herself tells me she really tapped into a deep emotional well when filming this. I am expecting to blown away. I can’t wait to see it, even though it is a very painful story with a sad ending.

Then don’t.

It’s doubtful that the theater had a seat roped off especially for you!

Well Angie is pretty but everytime I look at her I see a woman who admits to loving girls, calling her baby a “blob” and making Brad Pitt look 10 years older! Interesting person…no?

JOLIE-PITT ROCK @ 04/20/2007 at 9:44 am

Even if Maniston got the part to play Mariane, she wouldn’t look like her. Angie looks more like Mariane than elongated chin.

Hmmmmm, let’s see, then that makes you a homophobe, functionally illiterate, and badly in need of glasses, all in that order. Sounds like YOU are the one with problems.

Angie remains interesting and engaging.

Excuses, excuses ... @ 04/20/2007 at 9:49 am

“We didn’t want it to be too melodramatic or too polished.” What a convenient excuse when that’s the way it turned out but not by intent. The British crews had trouble working with the Indian crews and the whole production was short on time because of a lot of red tape. Of course it wasn’t polished. And I suspect that the acting might not have been as good as hoped either. (Just because acting is polished and perfected does not mean it is melodramatic.)
