OlderAngelina Jolie & Marianne Pearl: Worst People to Plan a Playdate
Marianne Pearl, the wife of the slain Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl, and Angelina Jolie (she plays her in the upcoming film A Mighty Heart) sits down with Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive for an interview at Angelina’s home. Here are some fun excerpts:
CINDI LEIVE: So Mariane, you started to tell me the story of how you guys initially met, which to my surprise had absolutely nothing to do with A Mighty Heart.
MARIANE PEARL: One day a few years ago, I was alone in New York with Adam, still having a rough time [after Danny’s death]. I read an interview with Angie in a magazine, about her and Maddox and her life as a single mom. And I thought, this woman could be my friend…. I’d never experienced anything like that before in my life. It was something in her tone, in the answers that she gave. I felt also that Maddox and Adam [then both about three] could be good friends. So I sent her a note saying, do you want to have a playdate?
ANGELINA JOLIE: And I, on the other side of it, had been aware of you through the time that everything went down. I remember being amazed by your courage and your grace…. And when I got the note, I was thrilled. Later I realized that Mariane and I are the two worst people to plan a playdate in the history of playdates.
CL: Why?
AJ: Because she hates the phone as much as I do. So it almost didn’t happen! But when it finally did, I remember being really nervous, thinking, she’s such an intelligent European woman—what are we going to do together? So we went to this serious, European, existential play—it seemed like the right thing [and it was supposed to be OK for kids]. But Adam and Mad got antsy, and finally halfway through, to each other’s relief, we were both like, do you want to get out of here? And we ran out and went back to Mariane’s place….
MP: We cooked pasta; it was actually good. And then we started talking about changing the world…
AJ: …and about all the things we were passionate about. Her instincts were right—we did have so much in common. And all the kids are great friends now. Zahara is madly in love with Adam.

According to “Access Hollywood” Angie and Marianne’s interview took place in Brad and Angie’s MALIBU HOUSE!! So this lovely pic was taken in their Malibu house and NOT in the Los Feliz House!!

Just because Access Hollywood said so does not make it true. They are just another TV Tabloid. Many of TV shows and Tabloids haven’t got yet that Brad and Angie have moved in Los Feliz. They think that they are still staying in the Malibu house. But they have moved since last year.
An article about an interview said that it took place in Angie’s Hollywood Hills house. And that is the Los Feliz house.
OT : Don’t you remember pics the woman next James Haven for Angie’s movie premiers, her name is Rebecca **. James, she’s Australian and she an Christian singer, youtube has a vid of her single’s, and she’s very pretty, i think she’s the best for James, isn’t she,

Actually it sounded like Angie was surprised that the other studios didn’t even bother to look at the book. And I think Angie is aware that to produce a movie that the scrip comes from a book you have to read it first.
Just because some people likes to keep their business to them selves does not mean that they are secretive. Brad has spoken about many things about him self likes his ideas in acting or his desire to have a family and that stuff. He was the one that had a whole interview to clear up the incident with their bodyguards in India. Brad is simply talking when he really has something to say.
And please when X talked in behalf of Brad exactly?? That is laughable. She always talked about HER SELF and none else.

The BAMPZS fan should be careful from clicking on this site they are evil and always right negative things about Jolie. Even if there is good news they will change the tone to negative. As if they are anti Jolie-Pitt and they always write positive about X. BAMPZS fan should not give them any hint.

Secondly, I noticed for the umpteenth time when Angie was signing autographs that she is a lefty like me Got me to thinking - how many of the fabulous cyber fans here are southpaws? Oftentimes I’ll gravitate towards certain friendships or admire someone’s work, more than others, only to realize that they are a left handed person too. If you look at left brain/right brain studies it all kinda makes sense. So speak up if you’re a lefty too - enquiring minds want to know!

I’m a lefty, chqt! My mother says I have favored my left hand since I could first reach for anything. I have also noticed a high percentage of lefties in the upper areas of many fields. It’s pretty much been proven that we actually perceive the world differently. I love it. Makes me different in a wonderful way.
As for the subject of this thread, I have been reading Angie’s comments about this movie, and the thing that strikes me the most is what she said about having to portray MP’s reaction upon finding out about Daniel….and how she said she never wanted to go to that place again. When this movie was filming in India we had a discussion here about how Angie was going to have to tap into her feelings for Brad to be able to bring that emotion to the surface, to imagine what it’s like to hear such a horrible thing about the man you love. WOW, I just keep thinking about how she had to convince herself it was true, just for a short time, and how absolutely wrecked she must have been afterwards.
Winona Ryder said of Angie, “Her access to her emotions is incredible,” and Winona also said Angie’s talent was scary and intimidating when she turned it on full blast.
I am sure playing those scenes in AMH were draining and heart-wrenching for Angie, having to put herself in the place of losing her love and raising their children alone. She probably latched onto Brad at the end of that day and wouldn’t let go of him.
I can’t wait to see this movie, not only because it is a story that needs to be told, something we should all know about and learn from, but keep in mind, Angie would not have been able to give such a strong performance (according to the early buzz) if she didn’t have such a deep love in her own life. She could not have identifed with MP nearly as well 2-3 years ago, before she fell in love with Brad and became pregnant with his child. All these things seem to have come together at the right time. Commercial success or not, this is one Angie (and Brad) can be be proud of!

Well I wouldn’t go quoting Access Hollywood as if they were the gossip. They reported that Marianne Pearl son Adam was only three years old but we all know that isn’t true. Afterall he was born on May 30, 2002!

Yes, I also noticed that Angie was shy - after shaking hands with students, it seems, she did not know what to do with her hands. Angie said she was shy person but I could not imagine it but I see it.
In AMH, also about the scene of MP finding out Daniel’ death, I think Angie really put herself in the position. We do not know it was true but anyway there was a rumor that Angie fainted during the scene. When I heard that I also thought that she put herself in the position of hearing her love’ death and she fainted during the scene.
dragonfly, thanks for your insightful comment. I believe this movie will be a monumental accomplishment for her as an actor. Though she is a natural actor and excels in acting, I have been thinking that she didn’t show us her utmost yet after Girl Interrupted. This time her performance must be “Knockingout, going where she never gone there” which some critic described, I bet. I will be proud of her commercial success or not.

I smiled when I saw that. I like thinking of Angelina as this larger than life kickass woman, but little glimpses of her shyness are also enjoyable, like how she nuzzled Brad’s shoulder at the God Grew Tired of Us premiere. Or how awkward she was toward Brad at the 2005 ShoWest and vice versa. It reminded me of that movie clip of her when she was four and she was talking to her father.

Angie expressed surprise that OF ALL THE STUDIO HONCHOS THAT WANTED TO DO THE MOVIE, BRAD WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD ACTUALLY READ THE BOOK. SHE WAS SURPRISED THAT THEY WERE ALL SO PRESUMPTUOUS — Y’KNOW, LIKE A-HOLES SUCH AS YOU - THAT THEY WOULD WANT TO MAKE A MOVIE OF A BOOK THEY HADNT READ.

OK, finally got some time to comment. Some fun times for fans of the BAMPZS are approaching indeed. This is shaping up to be a good year for the BAMPZS professionally. I’m going to very much enjoy the next few months
The glamour magazine out in May 8, the AMH premier out in May 16 or thereabouts, O13 also out in May (for Cannes isn’t it??). June will see the official premier of AMH and O13. Then there is Beowulf (Angelina only has a small role in that), Kung Fu panda. AOJJ out in September 21.
Year of the Dog has done quite well on a limited release of 7 cinemas. Has been well received by viewers and critics. It seems as if it is a low budget movie with a low budget marketing approach. Spreading by word of mouth. Interesting strategy. Brad got high praise for his role in AOJJ and the movie itself also attracted good reviews from those movie buffs who went to see the early cuts.
I actually think that AMH will do well. Mariane’s book was a best seller and she herself has a high profile. The Glamour interview appeared in the International Herald Tribune. The people who read the International Herald Tribune are precisely the sort of people who find AMH interesting.
It’s hard to know how well AOJJ will do. The early reviewers had loved the film but said it is not the usual western. I have high hopes for the movie and for Brad in this.
