OlderAngelina Jolie & Marianne Pearl: Worst People to Plan a Playdate
Marianne Pearl, the wife of the slain Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl, and Angelina Jolie (she plays her in the upcoming film A Mighty Heart) sits down with Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive for an interview at Angelina’s home. Here are some fun excerpts:
CINDI LEIVE: So Mariane, you started to tell me the story of how you guys initially met, which to my surprise had absolutely nothing to do with A Mighty Heart.
MARIANE PEARL: One day a few years ago, I was alone in New York with Adam, still having a rough time [after Danny’s death]. I read an interview with Angie in a magazine, about her and Maddox and her life as a single mom. And I thought, this woman could be my friend…. I’d never experienced anything like that before in my life. It was something in her tone, in the answers that she gave. I felt also that Maddox and Adam [then both about three] could be good friends. So I sent her a note saying, do you want to have a playdate?
ANGELINA JOLIE: And I, on the other side of it, had been aware of you through the time that everything went down. I remember being amazed by your courage and your grace…. And when I got the note, I was thrilled. Later I realized that Mariane and I are the two worst people to plan a playdate in the history of playdates.
CL: Why?
AJ: Because she hates the phone as much as I do. So it almost didn’t happen! But when it finally did, I remember being really nervous, thinking, she’s such an intelligent European woman—what are we going to do together? So we went to this serious, European, existential play—it seemed like the right thing [and it was supposed to be OK for kids]. But Adam and Mad got antsy, and finally halfway through, to each other’s relief, we were both like, do you want to get out of here? And we ran out and went back to Mariane’s place….
MP: We cooked pasta; it was actually good. And then we started talking about changing the world…
AJ: …and about all the things we were passionate about. Her instincts were right—we did have so much in common. And all the kids are great friends now. Zahara is madly in love with Adam.

This is what was said on Rush and Malloy, but TMZ makes it sound like U.S. Marshals made Justice Alito wait so that Angie could get in the hotel first because she has higher priority. They made her sound like a diva.

LMAO!!! Do you think that you just posted this tidbit as something positive about Aniston??? You perfectly proved the point of what a cot tail rider she was and still is. Because she would never had an opportunity to meet with Marianne if it wasn’t for Brad and if Marianne hadn’t felt a connection with HIM to give him the rights of her book.
Just because JA wanted to think of her self capable to take this role doesn’t automatically mean that she could do it or that she had any attachment to it. That was just a wishful thinking on her part. But obviously it takes something more than a wish to get to work in a movie like this.
On the contrary Marianne was the one that contacted Angie before she and Brad where a couple yet because of an interview she gave and Marianne thought of her as someone she had a lot in common with. And their friendship is just keep growing until now.
Knowing Brad and Angie both separately and as a couple she felt more comfortable to let this movie to be made because she obviously trusts these two people. And I’m sure we will see very good results out of it.
aimee - I think size 9. They talked about it when she gave Brad the birthday present. She was wearing high heel shoes and she could not do the tour. The manager of the place gave Angie her low heel shoes to wear so she wold go and Angie obliged. I think it was in the article that I read she wears size 9.

Since a lot of us perceived Angelina as shy with the students at Tribeca, and could very well be her general attitude toward strangers, but isn’t it also possible that she was shy or even hesitant due to the recent tabloid covers? These students aren’t Maddox/Pax aged, so more than likely, their perceptions were probably shaped by what were showcased, obnoxiously, on the newsstands.
It’s possible.
Maybe she was leaving NYC then or maybe this info is incorrect. What is the source of this info? If it is a tabloid or gossip page it is probably incorrect.

Contrary to what you may expect, many Hollywood bachelors are done changing girlfriends — because they are too busy changing diapers. The sudden whirlwind of celebrity parenthood is sweeping over hunks that were once notoriously single.
When Brad Pitt, once the ultimate bachelor, embraced a fatherly role with Angelina Jolie, a domino effect was created. Celebridaddies are popping up all over the place and they wear their new responsibility like a badge of honor!
Tobey Maguire could not be more enamored with Ruby, his new daughter with fiancee and jewelry designer, Jennifer Meyer. It’s been speculated that he is so committed to his new life as a dad he may just cut the acting cord. He wants Ruby to grow up in a “different, less ambitious kind of atmosphere.” Isn’t that just like Spider-Man to save a child from the throes of danger?
The baby powder might also be rubbing off on his pal, Leonardo DiCaprio, king of the supermodels. Although his rep denies rumors his 21-year-old girlfriend, Bar Rafaeli, is preggers, the possibility doesn’t seem too far away. Since Leo has been doting on Maguire’s baby girl, “The Departed” might soon become “The Expected.” It would certainly fit the pattern of famous young men dabbling in the daddy realm. Are their male biological clocks ticking competitively or are they synching up?
Don’t forget about Jake Gyllenhaal, who is suddenly dating devoted mother and recent divorcee Reese Witherspoon. Signs read: Approach with caution. Reese is fiercely protective of her son, Deacon, 3, and daughter, Ava, 7, but apparently Jake is fitting into this relationship like a glove at the ripe, old age of 26! It must help that Jake is the proud godfather of Matilda Rose, daughter of Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams, but maybe two years with party-hardy Kirsten Dunst prepped him for a serious change. Or maybe the shallow perks of fame are forcing our Hollywood bachelors to jade quicker and mature faster.
Hunky celebrities are taking the reigns of fatherhood, but let’s hope they don’t run their horses over a cliff. It’s impressive enough to see high-profile actors balance a baby with their busy careers, not to mention three or four. And since most of these couples aren’t married, let’s hope their level of commitment to each other remains as strong as their enthusiasm about passing their genes on. Let’s face it, Hollywood is just not the land of stable relationships and a solid pair of parents is a key ingredient in rearing a healthy, happy child.
Let’s just hope Paris Hilton doesn’t notice that babies are man magnets. Some people are just not cut out for parenthood.

I just saw that “WANTED”, X’s supposed next project, lost Meryl Streep—she BACKED OUT. I thought X announced on TV recently that this was happening; maybe she was trying to pressure Meryl? In any case it seems to have backfired! This must be quite embarrassing for X and Huvane.
Just because Angie is starting to shoot a different film with the same title in Praque, I would expect more disgrunted X fans on attack mode….

Mr & Ms Smith is on HBO now. It is so silly, but I watch this movie when it is on TV even though I have the DVD.
Maybe she was town Saturday doing interviews, as she will be going overseas soon. So she probably bundled everything together, Washington, TFF, and interviews. Just a thought. Peace.

Eww… kinda hate the tone of the story, especially since this person included the Leo rumor in it.
I hate that she used Brad as a lead-in, especially since it smells like the story is being geared toward the princesses. The hissyfits that they threw, they don’t need story-time; they need a time out. Big time!
Are you kidding me? The imdb actually says in words that “Streep has backed out?!” That’s unprecedented isn’t it? Oh my God…ordinarily I would laugh my aSS off but I’m going to be good, and let karma for Maniston continue to do it’s job. Karma needs a raise and a promotion.

When I interviewed Aniston a year and a half ago, she worried out loud about needing to be better educated about current world events. Taking on the Pearl film would appear to be part of her making good on a promise to herself. She and Pitt have also attended some meetings of One Voice, an organization dedicated to bringing peace to the Middle East that was started by a Jewish-American businessman. The press has been typically cynical about the idea of a Hollywood couple’s being interested in anything besides show business or themselves. “We’re not going to Israel,” says Aniston, denying one report. “I’m hesitant about getting into a political discussion because I’m educating myself at the same time and it’s so easy to take that and go, ‘Oh, they’re going to Israel,’ and all of a sudden you’re in the cross fire.”
I agree last post #420, she is sad. Not only was Brad trapped literally with her - she was stifling his most creative and natural impulses by being a piSS poor example of character and afraid of her own shadow. Her number one fear, What will people think of me (of us)? — what a silly pathetic ninny. To get a little bit of perspective, it’s always good to remember that this is the woman who came out publicly and said in a magazine that Kim Stewart hurt her feelings by saying she was “homely,” in a tabloid no less.
Most women worth their salt, wouldn’t have even dignified Kim Stewart (who the f**k is Stewart, besides yet another non-talent like Maniston, with an exceptional grasp of reality - she was right on with the “homely” part)…yet what does Maniston do? She gives Stewart a prime time spot in VF, but even more telling and diabolical she shows her modus operandi….she plays the pity-partying whining sad little victim and mews about how stewart ‘hurt her,’ that way all the mini-vans and losers on ‘Team Aniston’ can rip her to shreds FOR maniston, while her hands stay clean, and wringing together..a perfect picture of forlornness, for all the other enraged rejects to rally ’round. It’s basically the same thing she did with Brad and Angelina (‘They hurt me…sob…whine…please hate them America for hurting meeeeeeee!’).
She’s a professional victim and tv sit-com hack. That’s all she is.
…oh, and Kim Stewart was dead on.
Coal - I’m a leftie answering your call for all lefties to step forward. Mind you I strongly believe Angelina draws female fans who are spirited and not afraid to think outside the box and I’m not sure all lefties are like that.
I’m really happy for this couple and I wish them every success.
