OlderAngelina Jolie & Marianne Pearl: Worst People to Plan a Playdate
Marianne Pearl, the wife of the slain Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl, and Angelina Jolie (she plays her in the upcoming film A Mighty Heart) sits down with Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive for an interview at Angelina’s home. Here are some fun excerpts:
CINDI LEIVE: So Mariane, you started to tell me the story of how you guys initially met, which to my surprise had absolutely nothing to do with A Mighty Heart.
MARIANE PEARL: One day a few years ago, I was alone in New York with Adam, still having a rough time [after Danny’s death]. I read an interview with Angie in a magazine, about her and Maddox and her life as a single mom. And I thought, this woman could be my friend…. I’d never experienced anything like that before in my life. It was something in her tone, in the answers that she gave. I felt also that Maddox and Adam [then both about three] could be good friends. So I sent her a note saying, do you want to have a playdate?
ANGELINA JOLIE: And I, on the other side of it, had been aware of you through the time that everything went down. I remember being amazed by your courage and your grace…. And when I got the note, I was thrilled. Later I realized that Mariane and I are the two worst people to plan a playdate in the history of playdates.
CL: Why?
AJ: Because she hates the phone as much as I do. So it almost didn’t happen! But when it finally did, I remember being really nervous, thinking, she’s such an intelligent European woman—what are we going to do together? So we went to this serious, European, existential play—it seemed like the right thing [and it was supposed to be OK for kids]. But Adam and Mad got antsy, and finally halfway through, to each other’s relief, we were both like, do you want to get out of here? And we ran out and went back to Mariane’s place….
MP: We cooked pasta; it was actually good. And then we started talking about changing the world…
AJ: …and about all the things we were passionate about. Her instincts were right—we did have so much in common. And all the kids are great friends now. Zahara is madly in love with Adam.

When I interviewed Aniston a year and a half ago, she worried out loud about needing to be better educated about current world events. Taking on the Pearl film would appear to be part of her making good on a promise to herself. She and Pitt have also attended some meetings of One Voice, an organization dedicated to bringing peace to the Middle East that was started by a Jewish-American businessman. The press has been typically cynical about the idea of a Hollywood couple’s being interested in anything besides show business or themselves. “We’re not going to Israel,” says Aniston, denying one report. “I’m hesitant about getting into a political discussion because I’m educating myself at the same time and it’s so easy to take that and go, ‘Oh, they’re going to Israel,’ and all of a sudden you’re in the cross fire.”
I agree last post #420, she is sad. Not only was Brad trapped literally with her - she was stifling his most creative and natural impulses by being a piSS poor example of character and afraid of her own shadow. Her number one fear, What will people think of me (of us)? — what a silly pathetic ninny. To get a little bit of perspective, it’s always good to remember that this is the woman who came out publicly and said in a magazine that Kim Stewart hurt her feelings by saying she was “homely,” in a tabloid no less.
Most women worth their salt, wouldn’t have even dignified Kim Stewart (who the f**k is Stewart, besides yet another non-talent like Maniston, with an exceptional grasp of reality - she was right on with the “homely” part)…yet what does Maniston do? She gives Stewart a prime time spot in VF, but even more telling and diabolical she shows her modus operandi….she plays the pity-partying whining sad little victim and mews about how stewart ‘hurt her,’ that way all the mini-vans and losers on ‘Team Aniston’ can rip her to shreds FOR maniston, while her hands stay clean, and wringing together..a perfect picture of forlornness, for all the other enraged rejects to rally ’round. It’s basically the same thing she did with Brad and Angelina (‘They hurt me…sob…whine…please hate them America for hurting meeeeeeee!’).
She’s a professional victim and tv sit-com hack. That’s all she is.
…oh, and Kim Stewart was dead on.

Speculation is speculation. There have been no pixs of Angelina since Friday night in NYC. The paps knew where she was staying and had it staked out. Logically some pixs of her Saturday should have popped up by now if she was in NYC on that day. The Judge may have been running late to the luncheon meeting at the WalAstoria, and used Angelina as his excuse. Or maybe all the rest of the Jolie-Pitts arrived and lots of security was present. Who knows? They will most likely pop up in Europe sometime soon, and pixs will emerge. Until that happens gossip=gossip, and speculation=speculation as always happens when the Jolie-Pitt brood is not seen for a while.
The known positive is this article and I plan to buy this mag as soon as it is available so that I can read and enjoy the whole article.
First of all 479, these are the LAST two parents who could give a f**k about LOOKS (run go talk to that shallow superficial b*tch Maniston when and if she ever spawns, I’m sure she’ll be scheduling a nose job and lip job for her fetus inutero) - the very fact that Brad was with women that looked like Maniston and Juliette Lewis (sorry Jules), speaks volumes that he wasn’t into a perfect face. Since Angelina was going to adopt her kids and not replicate her own perfect genes before Brad came along, ditto her not being concerned about looks.
Face it, you haters are just as shallow as your idol ‘Rachel Green’ which is why you’re transferring all of her hang-ups, insecurities, and self-absorption about appearances onto Brad and Angelina.
Brad waking up to Traniston’s bugly mug for years says it ALL.
Gazing at the stunning young woman and exquisite babies in his home now, he must sometimes just shake his head at the sheer beauty….
God knows, the man had previously NOT been used to it.
