OlderAngelina Jolie & Marianne Pearl: Worst People to Plan a Playdate
Marianne Pearl, the wife of the slain Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl, and Angelina Jolie (she plays her in the upcoming film A Mighty Heart) sits down with Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive for an interview at Angelina’s home. Here are some fun excerpts:
CINDI LEIVE: So Mariane, you started to tell me the story of how you guys initially met, which to my surprise had absolutely nothing to do with A Mighty Heart.
MARIANE PEARL: One day a few years ago, I was alone in New York with Adam, still having a rough time [after Danny’s death]. I read an interview with Angie in a magazine, about her and Maddox and her life as a single mom. And I thought, this woman could be my friend…. I’d never experienced anything like that before in my life. It was something in her tone, in the answers that she gave. I felt also that Maddox and Adam [then both about three] could be good friends. So I sent her a note saying, do you want to have a playdate?
ANGELINA JOLIE: And I, on the other side of it, had been aware of you through the time that everything went down. I remember being amazed by your courage and your grace…. And when I got the note, I was thrilled. Later I realized that Mariane and I are the two worst people to plan a playdate in the history of playdates.
CL: Why?
AJ: Because she hates the phone as much as I do. So it almost didn’t happen! But when it finally did, I remember being really nervous, thinking, she’s such an intelligent European woman—what are we going to do together? So we went to this serious, European, existential play—it seemed like the right thing [and it was supposed to be OK for kids]. But Adam and Mad got antsy, and finally halfway through, to each other’s relief, we were both like, do you want to get out of here? And we ran out and went back to Mariane’s place….
MP: We cooked pasta; it was actually good. And then we started talking about changing the world…
AJ: …and about all the things we were passionate about. Her instincts were right—we did have so much in common. And all the kids are great friends now. Zahara is madly in love with Adam.

Why get so hung over on her doing the samba with another guy? It’s not like she’s doing the tango/the grind or something. Samba is just a lot of fun dancing with everyone in the room. It’s like doing aerobics to Brazilian/Afro music.

Seems like AAOJJ has had some problems. But anytime you try to do something outside the norm there are chances of that. No wonder there were so many meetings Brad had to attend. I hope audiences give it a chance.
Hi Bampzs Fans . There was a beautiful pic of Angie possibly MAMS put in last night .It was of Angie playing the role of the pregnant Mariane sitting in a rocking chair? Unless i am going blind , i checked thru this whole thread and can’t find it .I sure would appreciate seeing that georgous photo again .I was sure i saved it but realized later it was the wrong photo.

The main photo up above is beautiful. I can’t wait to see the movie but I must finish reading the book first. Both women are great role models for this society thats been consumedby superficialities and some weaknesses like uh….. More power to these two wonderful great mothers and women who are enlightening this world of ours.

Thanks, Besane! :) What a wonderful interview! It’s nice seeing the deep connection made between Angie and Mariane and what great friends both families have become. I love Brad and Angie even more, seeing how conscientious and respectful they were in making AMH….. the movie will be kind of like a gift to Mariane and family.

je suis très heureuse de rencontrer une personne qui parle la meme langue que moi. en fait je n’en veut pas à jen , mais les médias créent un triangle amoureux que je trouve absurde. et pour ce qui est de mon commentaire ,je le tiens de la bouche d’un écrivain américain , il dit je cite”jen s’est marié à brad pour faire la transition au grand écran” je n’invente rien loli et en plus le tout hollywood s’est que se sont leurs agents qui les ont présenter , ce qui rendsa relation fausse.

Off topic…maybe I should have posted this in the Glamour Magazine thread…so sorry…
I just happened to type in M. Pearl’s name and was directed to Oprah site where she did an interview with M. Peal I believe was in 2003. In the video (transcripts I’m reading b/c I can’t really hear the sound on video) you can tell how much in love she IS with her husband and how she wants her son to know his father. I can truly see why she didn’t want just ANYBODY playing her role. After listening/reading this interview, I can see why Angie some times had to have a space or room to herself where she needed to let it out…cry a little. If she embraces this role like she did for Girl Interrupted…then she DESERVES an Oscar!
I know people are saying it’s not going to be released worldwide and probably won’t be a contender for Oscar…but heck if she does what she did for GI…I say give that girl gold baby…

Did you see “Mr and Mrs Smith”? I’d call that a comedy. Jolie and Pitt (especially Pitt) were both hilarious.
Jolie was excellent in “Gia” and also in “Girl Interrupted”. “Alexander” was a disaster for everyone involved, Jolie included.

Angelina is sure lucky. She met Marianne Pearl because Pearl saw an article about Angelina and liked what she said. Angelina then hooked up with Brad Pitt whose company (co-owned with his wife Aniston) owned the movie rights to AMH. Then Brad divorced his wife. Then Angelina got together with Brad by consoling him about his divorce. Then Angelina got pregnant with Brad’s kid. Then Angelina got the part. See how being a good person pays off?
