OlderAngelina Jolie & Marianne Pearl: Worst People to Plan a Playdate
Marianne Pearl, the wife of the slain Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl, and Angelina Jolie (she plays her in the upcoming film A Mighty Heart) sits down with Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive for an interview at Angelina’s home. Here are some fun excerpts:
CINDI LEIVE: So Mariane, you started to tell me the story of how you guys initially met, which to my surprise had absolutely nothing to do with A Mighty Heart.
MARIANE PEARL: One day a few years ago, I was alone in New York with Adam, still having a rough time [after Danny’s death]. I read an interview with Angie in a magazine, about her and Maddox and her life as a single mom. And I thought, this woman could be my friend…. I’d never experienced anything like that before in my life. It was something in her tone, in the answers that she gave. I felt also that Maddox and Adam [then both about three] could be good friends. So I sent her a note saying, do you want to have a playdate?
ANGELINA JOLIE: And I, on the other side of it, had been aware of you through the time that everything went down. I remember being amazed by your courage and your grace…. And when I got the note, I was thrilled. Later I realized that Mariane and I are the two worst people to plan a playdate in the history of playdates.
CL: Why?
AJ: Because she hates the phone as much as I do. So it almost didn’t happen! But when it finally did, I remember being really nervous, thinking, she’s such an intelligent European woman—what are we going to do together? So we went to this serious, European, existential play—it seemed like the right thing [and it was supposed to be OK for kids]. But Adam and Mad got antsy, and finally halfway through, to each other’s relief, we were both like, do you want to get out of here? And we ran out and went back to Mariane’s place….
MP: We cooked pasta; it was actually good. And then we started talking about changing the world…
AJ: …and about all the things we were passionate about. Her instincts were right—we did have so much in common. And all the kids are great friends now. Zahara is madly in love with Adam.

I love the part of Mariane reading an article and simply deciding to send Angelina a note.
And then, after some twists and turns, Angie ends up playing her in the movie.
So, if I send her a note… yeah right

Well i love this women they are trying to make a change and some people are there writing negative comment.
Well the best thing is not to respond to those that criticize her. by responding to their view is wasting of time.
What i like about this family is that as troll or negative thinker criticize them the more God is blessing them. More film and many other things. Is God not so wonderful.
I will always be the jolie-pitt fan no matter what negative writer will write about them.

This will be an interesting interview, can’t wait to read it. I’ve long been an admirer of Marianne Pearl and honestly I was skeptical of the movie because I didn’t think it would do justice to the Marianne and Danny I’ve come to know through reading about them. Marianne is such a postive, courageous voice in the world and reading how connected she and Angie feel I really think the movie will project that side of her. It really makes me happy to hear that Brad read the book before taking on the movie, I don’t know if anyone has read it but it is fascinating, heartbreaking, and very, very realistic. There is no way the movie could have been made with any degree of respect and believability without the main people involved having read it.
I’m glad to hear these two women are friends.

OT : good news, i just got my Babel DVD, funny things, in Holland just uit the DVD and one of the store here had cheaper buy if you buy on 26/27 April it cost 16 euro and just regular days cost 27 euro, so long waiting at the casshier when it was two days cheaper, anyway it was surprised me that people here in my town bought Babel DVD, and yesterday i just cried the whole film, also the other dvd (the making of) what an flim……, Brad was prima performanced

Cof, cof… won’t it be too much to ask for the NY pic of Angie and Marianne with their kids leaving a house/hotel together (probably around 2004/05)?
If she did dance with wyclef or Olivier it is no big deal. NOONE said a word when Brad gave the winner of an auction a big wet kiss and dip last year at a bebefit. Matt Damon hosted this event and jokingly promised the winner a role in the sack with Mr. Innoncent. WTF?
He was promoting Babel while ANgie was at home with a newborn !
