Angelina Jolie & Marianne Pearl: Worst People to Plan a Playdate

Angelina Jolie & Marianne Pearl: Worst People to Plan a Playdate

Marianne Pearl, the wife of the slain Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl, and Angelina Jolie (she plays her in the upcoming film A Mighty Heart) sits down with Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive for an interview at Angelina’s home. Here are some fun excerpts:

CINDI LEIVE: So Mariane, you started to tell me the story of how you guys initially met, which to my surprise had absolutely nothing to do with A Mighty Heart.

MARIANE PEARL: One day a few years ago, I was alone in New York with Adam, still having a rough time [after Danny’s death]. I read an interview with Angie in a magazine, about her and Maddox and her life as a single mom. And I thought, this woman could be my friend…. I’d never experienced anything like that before in my life. It was something in her tone, in the answers that she gave. I felt also that Maddox and Adam [then both about three] could be good friends. So I sent her a note saying, do you want to have a playdate?

ANGELINA JOLIE: And I, on the other side of it, had been aware of you through the time that everything went down. I remember being amazed by your courage and your grace…. And when I got the note, I was thrilled. Later I realized that Mariane and I are the two worst people to plan a playdate in the history of playdates.

CL: Why?

AJ: Because she hates the phone as much as I do. So it almost didn’t happen! But when it finally did, I remember being really nervous, thinking, she’s such an intelligent European woman—what are we going to do together? So we went to this serious, European, existential play—it seemed like the right thing [and it was supposed to be OK for kids]. But Adam and Mad got antsy, and finally halfway through, to each other’s relief, we were both like, do you want to get out of here? And we ran out and went back to Mariane’s place….

MP: We cooked pasta; it was actually good. And then we started talking about changing the world…

AJ: …and about all the things we were passionate about. Her instincts were right—we did have so much in common. And all the kids are great friends now. Zahara is madly in love with Adam.

ITAWY….I’ve given up trying to understand why some fans are unable to resist being baited, over and over again. I really wonder about the age group, or rather, the maturity, of some who can be so easily distracted by so obvious a ruse as in the poster”interesting.”

Thank you Jared for posting about this wonderful article. I am definitely buy this magazine. I hope that this puts to rest some of the rediculous stories out there that she got this role due to her status with BP. Looking back now, I’m amazed how it seemed fated that BP and AJ should meet, as Marianne knew them both, prior to their even meeting. What beautiful women, inside and out!

The Glamour article sounds wonderful and I’m looking forward to buying it. If it is out on the newstands in the US on May 8, then I think that I’ll see it on the shelves of my newsagent a week later. I know angelina isn’t on the cover of the magazine. I hope it won’t run out though as Magazines with Angelina on the cover seem to go fast here.

If I were BP, of all the men around AJ, I’d be concerned about the young
and AB-FAB OLIVIER!
Wycliff is Angie’s friend for a long time. He even announced her pregnancy to
People and the world.
What was OLIVIER doing there???????????????????????
I know, I know, Angie is a one-man-woman, BUT Olivier is Olivier is Olivier.
Enough said.

Observer, LOL. There really is no accounting for tastes is there? Well, I’m happy you find Olivier really gorgeous. Diversity of tastes keeps life interesting. After reading your post, I understood why some people are going bananas over the NY daily throwaway line about Angelina dancing with Martinez. Obviously you and some other women find Olivier sexy and attractive.

Seriously though Olivier has never struck me as being remotely sexy. His build does not turn me on. He seems to be a wiry, lean sort of build. I prefer a more solid build in my men. I like something to hold on to. Muscle is best but like Jack spratt’s wife, I’ll take chubby (but not obese) over lean any day!!! lol. His face is interesting enough. In photos, he seems to be a moody and broody. Again, that look doesn’t really appeal to me. Give me suave, give me clark gable, give me cary grant, or give me just good old fashion good looking, give me Brad Pitt and Robert Redford and Paul Newman.

Frankly, if Olivier hadn’t been with Kylie Minogue and appeared in Taking Lives with Angelina, I probably wouldnt even know what he looked like.

“This is what’s wrong with so many Jolie-Pitt fans…instead you’d rather argue with idiots like interesting and her aliases…And don’t blame interesting for this she’s playing you all like a fiddle and making you all look rediculous.”

“we are getting sidetracked into someone’s game.”
You are both absolutely correct. By responding to posters who are negative and critical, you have given them a forum to rant and they really are “playing you all like a fiddle” and it is “someone’s game”. This person obviously has biased issues of their own but he/she is getting enjoyment and power out of the “fiddle game”. All who respond are playing into his/her “control” issues. BAMPZS fans are more sophisticated than that. Be smart and ignore…don’t play the “fiddle game”…and “trolls” will get bored and go away…remember, like thinkers congregate with like and non-like will be forced to play alone or somewhere else if no one plays with them.

Susie, we keep posting the same pics, in the same format! :D

Stanger and susie… thanks again!

Thanks stranger. Zahara’s boyfriend is so cute.

FROM NYDN: After the Tribeca Film Institute screening, Jolie, Bai Ling, Ethan Hawke, and Olivier Martinez met up at Unik’s Gin Lane, where Jolie’s music director, Wyclef Jean, and five conga players encouraged “Teach” to let down her hair. Throwing her arms in the air, Jolie gave Martinez a samba lesson he won’t forget.

*********

LMAO! Olivier Martinez will never be the same again, he will search the world over to find what he had in his grasp for 2.2 minutes.
I love the idea of Angie doing this, we all know she is playful and free so I don’t think it’s a huge deal that she went out dancing or that she samba’d with Martinez. I’m sure Brad isn’t worried, lol.

A good FLUFF piece, right before the promotion of the movie A Mighty Heart.

Work it girls!

Gotta get the word out, after all it ends up with $$ in both pockets………

Regardless the movie is going to BOMB at the Box Office.

You know I just read part of the interview, and I am upset . Marianne Pearl lets the cat out of the bag. Jennifer Aniston and her friends should hang their heads in shame. This interview puts to rest to lies that have been said about Brad.

Excerpt from Vanity Fair:

“When Brad and Jen were in the marriage, having a baby was not his priority—ever,” says one mutual friend. “It was an abstract desire for him, whereas for Jen it was much more immediate. So is there a part of Brad that’s diabolical? Did he think, I need to get out of this marriage, but I want to come out smelling like a rose, so I’m going to let Jen be cast as the ultra-feminist and I’m going to get cast as the poor husband who couldn’t get a baby and so had to move on?”

From The Upcoming Glamour Magazine

CL: And was the movie a thought for either of you at that point?
MP: …I had met with Brad separately about the movie, [but] he wasn’t connected at all with Angie at that time. To be honest, I wasn’t even sure I wanted to do a movie…. Everybody was using terrorism for their own political agenda at that time, and really, this is a story about Danny. But when I met Brad—well, out of all the studios, he was the only one who had actually read the book!

AJ: Really?

MP: Really…and I could see already that he wanted to have children, and to raise them in a world of tolerance…. I don’t think I would have done it if I didn’t feel a direct connection to Brad and, then, Angie.

The next interview Aniston does, someone should ask her point blank. To address the situation. Aniston should not be allowed to give any more interviews while hiding behind sources called “mutual friend”. I am truly disgusted, and I now realize that kids were a major reason for Brad’s divorce. Pearl said that for a reason, because she knows the truth as Angie’s friend she put that out there, and I am happy, at least another side is out there.

Another issue while Aniston is always quick to deny rumors, about nose jobs, or anything that she feels is damaging to her image, she NEVER denies rumors that put Brad and Angie in a bad light. It is NOW more than obvious that this role was never hers to begin with and the only reason plan b got the rights was due to Brad, not Aniston. When it was announced that Angie would play Pearl, Brad and Angie were put in a bad light, on entertainment shows, and print, the media made it seem like this was her role. She did nothing to deny it. Gave interviews and never said anything to correct it.

Honestly she should be ashamed of herself and be truthful. The media is not doing thier job, and the next publication or journalist , that interviews this pathetic excuse for a decent human being, needs to ask her the tough questions, ask her point blank to tell the bloody truth.

Do you guys realize that after the divorce, almost every interview she did, mentioned how much she wanted kids, Oprah mentioned it, In Style, Larry King, but the day it was announced that Brad and Angie were expecting, the subject of children has never been brought up again. This trick needs to be called out and if she is suppose to be classy, then she needs to tell the truth.

Worth repeating this taken from another thread. another lie of Maniston are being uncover !

The reason is because the baiter is smart enough to manipulate the more vulnerable target’s need to clarify, to defend, to justify. It is not necessarily age or actually maturity related, it’s an emotional issue…by inciting someone’s emotional weakness, manipulators usually get what they want i.e. to elicit a response. The thinker is not usually drawn into such a ploy because they think before they “react”…and usually the reaction, any reaction, positive or negative BTW (that’s part of the manipulation and the control that satisfies the baiter) is the desired result the baiter wants to elicit. It’s like a child testing the adult, to see how far they can get.

Not Interesting! @ 04/30/2007 at 11:59 am

Brad has many women friends, too! SAme way that Angie has male friends. Remember Catherine Keener leaning on brad’s shoulder during the WGGT premiere.

Brad and Angie’s relationship is solid, and they are very secure with each other.

Its good that Angelina can have fun on her own, too, it will make her more sexier to Brad, and will keep him on his toes. Just because she is a mother of 4, Angie is no longer allowed to dance Samba, with other men if she wants to. Its not a big deal!!

Remember she was also dancing during Wyclef’s concert last August 2005, and little we know she was already preggy at that time. Maybe she is dancing again this time, happy that she is preggy again! Now Ms interesting, would probably not want to hear that…

Okay guys, this has been a great thread.
Gotta go now, please don’t bite, don’t feed the trolls.

Thanks Susie for all your pictures. These are great. I’m saving them all.

AMH is a small budget movie, it cost around 20 million I’m sure Paramount and Plan B are not expecting it to be a blockbuster like the other summer big budget movies like Spiderman, Pirates, Shrek… etc. but as I see it in Imdbh, AMH have already been sold and will be screen in several coutries outside NA. It’s not gonna lose money, it’s already earning.

Adam and Zee , Shi and Kingston, cute couples, they can set a double date .

Bringing this post over from the old thread.

Lylian,
German is my native language!!
If you like fairy tales, I have two wonderful links for you, you can read the stories online.
There are some tales that are not bloody and you could read to your daughter, I personally like Frau Holle, Hans in Luck, Bearskin. Particularly bloody and scary: Fitcher’s Bird, The Girl Without Hands, The Willful Child,
And this one is an index of e-texts that include Aesop’s fables, Hans Christian Andersen’s tales and many more.

I hope you like them!
________________________

Hi Stranger, I enjoy fairytales too. Thank you for the links. I’ll print them out and read them to my daughter. She loves being read to.

There is something about fairytales and myths that resonates to deepest desire and deepest fears of human beings. that’s why there is such enduring appeal.

When I went to Istanbul in October 05, we had taken a boat along the Bosphorus to the edge of the Black Sea. Later, we bought some books of ancient Greek stories and legends. One of the stories was about a weeping rock which is on a beach by the black sea. The story goes that there was this woman who was great friends with the goddess Leda as a child. This woman grows up and has a family. She has a great many children whilst Leda only has 2 children. This woman then boasts about how wonderful she is to have so many children and how she is better then Leda. Leda over hears her boast and insult and takes her revenge. One by one, one after another, this woman’s children die at war, of disease till she is left with none. This womans then sits by the sea and weeps till she turns into stone, still weeping for her lost children.

The story of this woman who loses all her children stirred a real horror in me. I am so thankful that I live in a time and in a society where our children are likely to live through most illnesses. When I look back on my daughter’s life, there were 2 events, which, 50 years ago, might have meant her death. Once, she kept running a low grade fever for almost 2 weeks and lost 15% of her body weight. Another time, she threw up everything she had to swallow and this went on for 3.5 days. Simple illnesses but they could have killed her but for the miracle of modern medicine.

Interestingly enough, the Chinese use to give their boys beautiful names like Glorious General or Bright and Filial (in chinese they sound really nice). However, the boys were all called by their nick names like, dog, cat, mouse, cow. My grandfather went by his nickname Dog and my greatgrandfather by his nick name cat!! No one was insulted!! Parents would not praise the beauty of a child for fear of attracting evil spirits. they would say how ugly their child was or how stupid, so that the evil spirits wouldn’t want the child.
